Ban of friends chapter 5

“Guys, lunch is ready!!”

“Finally!” Ash yelled running in to the dining room.

“Your appetite hasn’t changed, I see”
Delia walked around the table and gave her son a little peck on the cheek, as he tasted the chicken salad.

“I missed you”

“I missed you too mom” he chuckled. Delia caressed his cheek lightly.

“I’m glad you’re here, sweety”

“O, how touching” Gary muttered sarcastically, entering the room with Professor Oak on his heel.

“Wow this looks delicious, Delia” the professor exclaimed. “If I were you, Ash I’d visit home everyday for a good meal”
Ash didn’t respond and sat down.

“Please, he has world famous caterers making his food” Gary snarled.
Ash poured himself a glass off water and slammed the jug back down on the table.

“Where’s Misty?” Delia asked, trying to change the subject.

“ Little witch, lunch is ready!” Gary hollered, taking a seat next to Ash.

“Gary!!”his grandfather shouted.

“O common gramps, you can’t tell me she doesn’t look like a witch.”

“At least I don’t look like a zombie”

“O, great comeback” Gary stated sarcastically, looking at the person behind Delia.

Delia and the professor turned around in their chairs to look at Misty

“Uhm…”she began looking at Misty’s clothes.

“Hey this is the best I got” Misty muttered.

“Nice bandana” Ash smirked, referring to the black bandana with skulls on it that she was wearing.

“Don’t start” she whispered dangerously.

“Where you get them jeans?” Gary began.

“Probably ripped them off of a corpse in some graveyard” Ash added looking at the torn baggy jeans Misty was wearing.

Gary and Ash looked at each other and smirked.

“I think you look lovely dear” Delia lied.

“Yeah right” Gary and Ash said in unison.

Misty sauntered towards the table letting herself fall on to the chair between Delia and Ash.

“Now that we’re all here…professor would you do the honors”
Delia, Ash and Gary bowed their heads and closed their eyes.

“Heavenly father….”

Misty pulled her chair back with a loud squeak and walked up to the fridge.
Gary and Ash opened their eyes and looked at her.

“Misty dear, is something wrong?” asked Delia.

“No, I’m just getting some ice for my water”

“Uhm, maybe you didn’t noticed, but we were praying” Gary said with a fake sweet voice. “I know it’s hard for you, but could you pretty please show some respect”

“I don’t pray” Misty replied flatly.

“What?” Ash asked.

“I don’t pray” she repeated.

“Are you kidding me?” he asked seriously.

“Ash, I just don’t pray. What’s the big deal?”

“I told you she’s a witch” Gary muttered looking at his grandfather.

“Uhm…that’s okay…I guess, right Delia?” the professor stammered, ignoring Gary.

“Sure, please continue professor” she replied with a squeaky voice.

Gary closed his eyes with a smirk.
Ash looked at Misty for a while and then closed his eyes too.

The professor said his prayer, often getting interrupted by Gary’s chuckling.
He burst out laughing when his grandfather said “Bless the beautiful Misty” at the end of it.

“Amen” the professor finished, looking at Gary in annoyance.

“Well, shall we” Delia asked. “Misty come…sit”

Misty walked over to the table with her glass of water and sunk in to the chair, between Ash and Delia, throwing Gary a death glare.
Ash spooned some salad on to his plate and started spooning some on Misty’s plate.

“What are you doing?” Misty asked.

“Uhm, I thought, maybe you wanted some salad?” he whispered avoiding her eyes.

“I’m capable of doing it myself, you know?”

“Fine” he said dropping the spoon and bowl on the table with a loud clang.

Delia, Gary and professor looked up from their plates.

“O, o…I think Ashy boy here just wanted to get your attention after seeing you give me those longing glances” Gary smirked. “O wait, that can’t be. All those pretty girls throwing themselves at his feet…why would he want you?”

“Shut up, Gary” Ash muttered, grabbing a piece of bread.

Gary smirked and helped himself to some sandwiches.

“Pass the sandwiches, please” Misty muttered coldly.
Gary put the plate of sandwiches in the middle of the table, just out off Misty’s reach.

“This food is too holy for the likes of you” he chuckled.

“Gary!” his grandfather shouted, warningly.

“Here you go, Misty dear,” Delia said, passing the plate.

“Thanks” Misty managed to croak out.
She took a bite of her sandwich and looked at the boy beside her.

“Ash, where are your pokemon?” she asked.
Delia and the professor stopped eating and looked interestingly at Ash.
Even Gary was quiet.

“They’re at the local pokemon center. I’ll be picking them up today.” Ash said, helping himself to his bread.

“Where are your pokemon, Misty?” Gary asked with a mocking voice.

Misty glared at him, waiting for him to say something mean.

“You probably did some kinda voodoo with them, right?”

“Young man, that’s enough” said professor Oak, banging his fist on the table.

“O and what about you, Gary. Did your pokemon abandon you like your parents did?” Misty asked coolly.

“YOU FUCKING BITCH” Gary shouted standing up.

“You told her?!” he spat at the professor.

“No I figured it out by myself Gary. It wasn’t so hard” Misty said calmly.
“I mean who would want you?”

“Take that back!! Or I’ll kill you” he said walking towards Misty.

“Calm down, Gary” Ash said, standing between the two of them.

“Move out of the way, or I’ll smash your pretty face in”

“Gary this is unnecessary” said Delia.

“Gary, try to calm down” his grandfather added, grabbing his arm.
“You can’t hit a girl”

“That’s no girl” he whispered menacingly. “You better sleep with one eye open, tonight”
And with that he wrestled out of his grandfather’ s grip and left the dining room.

Ash turned around with a look of shock on his face.

“I could have protected myself you, know” Misty said looking at Ash.
She was trying to keep her cool, but was failing miserably.

“Yeah right, you should be thanking me for saving your life” he muttered.

“Please you’re not capable of saving anyone’s life”

“What do you mean by that?” Ash whispered full of emotion.

“What do you mean by that?” he repeated more loudly.

His mother and the professor looked between the two teens not understanding, why Ash was making such a big deal out of what Misty said.

“You know, exactly what I mean” she whispered avoiding his eyes. A tear fell from her eye on to her hand.

“Gary’s right you are a bitch” he spat out and he too left the dining room.

Misty looked at the dumbfounded people beside her, as another tear fell from her eye.

“I’m sorry you guys, but I can’t stay here”
