The New World By AbsolDragon *note that this fic takes place before the British came to America* Part 2a: Finding a way Meghan, backpack on and ready to dart out the door of the orphanage, collided with someone. "Oww," she moaned. That had been the fourth time she had fallen that day. "Clumsy fiend! Do you persist on running me down?" Meghan recognized the eerie tone from earlier that day. Nanny Esmeralda had been in a dreadful mood since Jason had deserted the dismal life of an orphan. She had been roaring at anything alive, including the wilted ferns that had not been watered since she had taken over. "Oh my, are you alright?" she questioned the petite girl lying on the stone cold floor, realizing this was Jason's friend. If she ran away too, there would be terrible punishment for her. Meghan narrowly opened her eyes to stare at the over weight woman. "No, not at all..." Meghan lied, her voice quivering. It was hard enough to set out searching for a friend who could be anywhere in the big, bustling city, but did she have to throw being a klutz on top? "Well then get up and go clean the toilets!" Esmeralda ordered. Meghan started to stand up, slowly regaining strength from her fall. "Faster!" Esmeralda howled at the girl. "No," Meghan, not hesitating at all, notified the beastly woman. "What did you say to me, little girl?" The enormous figure loomed over the child now. Meghan did not back away, though. She stood firm and replied to Esmeralda. "I said, 'no'. Do you understand me?" Meghan repeated herself. Esmeralda was flustered. No one told her no. Until then. Meghan trotted past her and on out the door. She was proud of herself; she had just stood up for herself. That was an accomplishment in its own. Outside of the building she could hear Esmeralda's newly formed rage to destroy her. "Figures," she mumbled to herself, unaware of the eyes that had fallen upon her. There was rustling of leaves in a nearby shrub. Meghan glanced over at the shrubbery. She could see the shadow of something behind it, but it was too small to be a human. Maybe it was a Rattata. That would not turn out well if it was; she had no Pokemon with her. Then it called out to her, as if signaling for help. "Vee! Eevee!" It sounded distressed. "That is not a Rattata!" Meghan stated, running over to the Pokemon in the shrubs. It was tangled up in a vine that extended from a tree. She had never seen anything like it before. It was like a dog, but with a beautiful mane around its neck and a similar tail on its rear. It called out again, noticing the human beside it. "Hey, little one. I am going to get you out of there, okay?" The Pokemon nodded its head. Meghan found a thorn lodged deep in its left leg and started to unlodge it when the Pokemon winced. "Ee! Ee!" It bawled. "Oh, I am sorry, but it has to come out if you want to be free," Meghan informed the small Pokemon. It forlornly agreed, and Meghan once more attempted to remove the thorn, this time succeeding. Meghan then unraveled the vine from its body and picked up the Eevee, cradling it in her arms. She turned around and walked towards the city. This began a long day of searching. *** *** *** During her search, she found a flyer lying in the street, which she picked up. It read: 'All who yearn for adventure and discovering a new world, hear this; a ship will be departing for this new world at sunset of April 15. This is something you do not want to miss!' Meghan realized that that very day was April 15, and the sun was beginning to set! She had to hurry and find Jason, so she turned and dashed towards the orphanage. Maybe he had gone back for her... She began to return to the orphanage. Deciding to take a shortcut through the woods, she scooped up Eevee and darted to the side of a building with a fire escape. She climbed up halfway and dove into a fir tree with soft leaves. From there she climbed from tree to tree until she would get to the orphanage. It was not really a shortcut, just plain fun! At least it was fun until a Metapod knocked her and her companion out of the tree they had leapt to, the closest one to the orphanage. "Aahh!" Meghan yelped as she plummeted to the ground. Her Eevee shared her feelings. They nailed the ground, both were in pain. Eevee got right up, wanting to put up a fight. Meghan did not get up though. She had passed out from the pain. The lone Pokemon grunted and charged at the tree the Metapod was in. It fell out and collapsed on top of Meghan. Still, she budged not. "Metapod," the Pokemon stated its name, nonchalantly. It glowed in silvery color, using the move harden. Eevee once more rammed towards the tree, this time a target in front. The Pokemon hit hard, but its own life was reduced from the impact. Metapod again hardened. They repeated the phase of harden, tackle, harden, tackle until Meghan reawakened. "Huh?" The petite female stuttered when she awoke to find a Metapod and an Eevee fighting beside her. "Eevee! Use a Sand Attack!" the dog kicked up a cloud of sand that came hurling at its foe. "Whoa..." Meghan was amazed. That was the biggest and most powerful Sand Attack she had ever seen. The Metapod groaned another nonchalant 'Metapod,' and keeled over on top of Meghan. "Way to go, Eevee!" Meghan cheered. 'Maybe Eevee could beat Meowth!' That was not going to happen for a while. Meghan picked up the injured Bug and skipped off towards the orphanage. The Eevee looked confused. "Eevee, I am going to take Metapod with us to be our new friend. is that fine?" Eevee nodded. 'I cannot believe I am taking a Pokemon that knocked me out of a tree! Oh well,' she thought, and walked into a clearing behind the orphanage. There was someone climbing out of the chimney... Part 2b: Back to the Orphanage Jason hurried up the hill. He could not stand that ghastly woman, the woman who tried to snatch his whole life from him. Meowth was his life and would remain his life for as long as Jason could imagine. Nothing would change that, not even... Meghan. “Meghan!” he ceased his running, remembering the girl he had known since the day he found the orphanage. She was the first person to see him completely. He and a baby Meowth were resting behind the old building. Meghan went outside and tugged on his shirt sleeve, indicating the adoption Center. “This is a nice place to live, if you do not have a home.” She had informed Jason. “A home?” Jason replied, not knowing the meaning of home. He had lived on the streets all of his life. He had never lived inside, only out. The earth WAS his home. “A place where you can stay,” Jason looked puzzled. He could not understand what the girl meant. “The ladies inside of this building will take care of you. They will give you food and shelter.” Meowth woke up as soon as Meghan said ‘food’. It purred loudly, and hopped into the little girl’s arms. “Hello, kitty, what is your name?” Meghan questioned the cat. “Its name is Meowth and he likes you!” Then he agreed to living in the Children’s Home. Everything started off well, until Nanny Hope passed away, leaving Nanny Esmeralda in charge. That’s when things went bad. Nanny Esmeralda made many changes, starting with the title of the center. It went from Hope Children’s Home to Esmeralda’s Orphanage of love. Less and less children were adopted and some even ran away. Such as Jason. The flashback was over and Jason could not believe he just forgot Meghan like that. He turned back to the old orphanage, where he would have to end up at once more even though he had sworn not to. “Doing it for Meghan.” He repeatedly told himself, marching onward to the hated old building where his life had been wasted since the death of Nanny Hope. He would go back for his friend, no matter what. It sounded like a Pokemon battle was raging in the nearby woods. He could hear a Pokemon tackling another. He wanted to see that battle so much... maybe he could even participate! No, that would be deserting his plan to go back for Meghan. He struggled up to the orphanage, not rotating his head the slightest bit to assure himself he would not look back at the battle. He stalked up to it, making sure the nuns were not about to go on their evening walk. He quickly bolted to the right, his Meowth still in his arms. It softly purred, waking from its short slumber. “It is okay, Meowth, just stay here for a little while. I will be back in a few minutes with Meghan. Do not go anywhere!” The drowsy eyed feline nodded, still tired. Jason found a bump in the outer wall of the orphanage. Using it he hopped up to the roof of the building, its wood decaying. How it still stood, Jason did not know. He crawled over to the charred chimney. “Here I go,” He nervously announced to his Pokemon down below. Jason dived into the chimney, dust and soot coating his face. Not long until he would be in the bedroom chamber, where the orphans slept. He looked all around, only finding young children swarming him. “Hi, Jason!” They all chimed. He was the oldest child there; he was a father figure to them. “Jason, we heard you ran away,” one of the children proclaimed. “And Nanny Fat Lard is putting wanted ads up all through –“ This child was interrupted. “-London, and maybe even-“ “-England!” “And you and Meghan are-“ “-Going to the-“ “-New World!” This time, they were interrupted by an older voice. “Nanny Esmeralda!?” All the children chorused, petrified of the immense monster who ran the building. Yet none of them fled the scene as usual, instead they stood firm, shielding Jason behind them, who was crouched down to the cold, decomposing wooden floor. “Where would Jason happen to be, children?” The enormous female questioned the tiny children, mice compared to her elephant-like figure. The children hesitated over the answer. None of them wanted to speak up. They were small; they did not know the basics of lying. One finally spoke. “Nanny Esmeralda, I can assure you that not one person in this room, let alone this household knows where Jason might possibly be,” Jason had a grin across his face. He knew who the speaker was. “Now, Travis, do you truly expect me to believe an exaggeration such as this?” Jason beamed at the young boy, Travis, who had become his liar apprentice. He was the only other liar in the orphanage, besides Nanny Esmeralda. Travis stuttered at his questioning, he had not been trained for THAT. He did the first thing on his mind: kick the fatty right in the shin! The woman screamed and attempted to scold the youngster, but he stared down the hall. Nanny followed him, giving Jason the perfect escape. He grabbed his bag from of his bunk and headed up the chimney. Then he remembered why he came... “Meghan!” He jumped back down the chimney and asked the children around him where the blonde headed girl was. “She went looking for you,” one child notified Jason. “Thanks! See you later, alligators!” He hollered as he climbed up the chimney once more. “After while, crocodile!” they called back. Out of the chimney, Jason hopped of the roof and started running towards the wilderness. A feline purred behind him, then leaping to his shoulders. “Hey, Meowth! I almost forgot you,” Jason stated. The Pokemon nudged his cheek. “What is it? Did I forget something?” Jason could not think of anything. “Oh, nothing... except me!” A female voice declared. There was a small Pokemon behind her, smaller than Meowth, and a green cocoon in her hands. Jason turned to see who the voice belonged to. )()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()( I hope you enjoyed it!
