Pokemon: Saffron Moon **AbsolDragon** Starting of a New Day "Pleeease, Ma? Can I go?" Axel, a spiky red headed ten-year-old boy pleaded for the hundredth time. "No, no, a thousand times no! Don't give me that baby Meowth face. You know it ain't gonna work on me. Now go to your room and get ready for church." Penelope, Axel's bubble gum pink haired mom, demanded. "But Ma! Everyone in Pallet has left on their Pokemon journey when they turned ten, it's only fair..." "I said go to your room, NOW! Alexander Benjamin Rockefeller, don't make me call your fa-" "Call his father for what? My little Axel never gets in trouble." Axel's dad, a tall, gray haired man, interrupted. “Ma won’t let me start a Pokemon adventure and I really want to go! Pleeease let me go!” Axel quickly explained the situation. “Peter, don’t call him Axel! You know that ain’t his real name!” Penelope, who hated the name Axel, roared. A blazing battle flared, Axel and his dad on one side, Penelope on the other. Finally, one of the sides gave in, knowing the winner had been declared. “Look what you did, child, you made us late for church!” Penelope stated. As Axel slowly climbed the spiral staircase to his attic room, a grand thought popped into his mind…! He knew how his journey would start! * ^ * ^ * ^ * Axel lay on his bed, staring at the glow-in-the-dark star stickers on his ceiling. He had always liked stars. They brought happiness to his heart, but they also brought sorrow… He thought about his best friend, Luna. She was his next-door neighbor when he lived in Saffron City… He thought about the good times they had, chasing Pidgey away… helping abandoned Pokemon… acting like super heroes… That was his favorite memory of her. He would put a red and blue sheet around his shoulders and cut holes in his blue underwear to use as a mask, and she’d wear a blue and red tutu from her second grade dance recital with a stretched out tube sock on her head. Together they were Saffron Star and Moon. But then he thought of her death…falling into the river…never coming out… They moved away the next week. He could almost hear her screams… “Axel! Axel! AXEL!!! I LOV-“ And that was the end of that. She had never been found. After church, Axel told his mom that he was going to Harry’s house. Harry was one of two friends he had here in Pallet. Luckily, his mom bought the story! As soon as Axel was out of Penelope’s sight, he shot off toward Route 1. Instead of going to Sunday school that morning, he had come home and packed his bag full of the things he needed. He entered the forest and stopped behind a tree. He sat down and opened the bag sitting there, looking for his Oak’s Book of Pokemon: Edition 1. It was old but it was still accurate. He flipped through the pages, searching for a pokemon that he would want. He stopped at Poliwag. His dad had a Poliwrath that Axle loved playing with. So strong, so cool… He must’ve been pretty lucky. As he was thinking of Polygram the Poliwrath, an injured Poliwhirl fell out of the tree he was under. The Poliwag landed smack on the center of his head, knocking him down. “Poliii…Polll…” It lay there, fainted. “Don’t worry little guy, it’ll be okay…I hope…This stinks, the nearest Poke Center is in Viridian… Oh well!” Axel picked up the Poliwag and sprinted to Viridian as fast as he could. A Growlithe howled in the distance. The moon was already rising and Axel was still on the Route. He was lost… Ember Lends a Hand Axel didn’t stop running. He knew that if he did, it might be the end of Polily, the Poliwag he had found injured. He had gotten to know it well. Two people wearing white suits with red Rs in the center had seen it battling a Ratata. Polily had used a single bubble attack to defeat it and its friends. The couple had kidnapped Polily from her family, but Polily fought back. “WHOA!” Out of nowhere, Axel was picked up in a net and slammed against a tree trunk. “HELP! I HAVE AN INJURED POKEMON! PLEASE… please… help… It’s no use. No one can hear us… Polily?!? Where are you?” “Pooolli…” Polily hadn’t been picked up by the net. Instead, she was lying on the ground. “Pol?” She sat up, looking for Axel. “I’m up here, can you get me down?” Polily shook her head, not wanting to hurt him. “Fire away, you won’t hurt me!” The Pokemon obeyed and shot a powerful bubble attack at him. It hit hard, but didn’t knock him out of the tree. “Can I help out?” a fiery-red head girl asked. She looked up at the boy. She had never seen him before. “Sure! Could you get me down from here?” Axel asked her. She looked up at him, he blushed. “Okay. Go, Eevee! Use tackle on the top of the net!” A dog=like creature with fur around its neck exploded from her Pokeball. “Eevee!!” The pokemon jumped up and tackled the net down. Axel came crashing down onto the ground. “Return Eevee.” The pokemon hopped into the ball. “Awww, looks like yo have some wounds there… I’ll fix ‘em right up.” Ember sprayed a Potion on the Poliwag, stinging a good bit. “POOLLLIII!” Polily tackled the red-head. She soared through the air. Axel had been wrestling around, trying to get out of the net. As soon as he got out, he stood up. “I- AAA!” CRASH! The girl fell on top of Axel, pinning him down. They set there in an awkward position for a while until the girl spoke up. “My…na-na-name is… Em-Emba-Ember…” “Mine’s Ax-Axes are on fire…..” Axel blushed then pushed Ember off of him. “Get off!” He turned away and blushed. “That’s not how you treat a woman, Axes are on fire!” Axel blushed even more. “It’s Axel… Oh man, I totally forgot! Polily!” “Don’t worry about a thing. Your Poliwag’s fine.” “Oh thanks… My mom! She’s going to kill me!’ Axel took off in a sprint, rushing home, knowing his mom would kill him. Back in Pallet, Penelope was crying. She had no clue where he could be. He wasn’t in any of his usual spots… She had been too harsh on him, she just knew it. Why couldn’t she just let him go on his journey? Mrs. Ketchum, their eighty-year-old neighbor, loved to tell stories of Ash’s Adventures. Axel burst into the door, Ember and Polily close behind. ‘A-A-Alexander Rockefeller! Where have you been? I’ve been worried sick!” “Your name’s Alexander?!?” Ember said, busting a gut. “And who’s this?” Pointing towards Ember. “This is Ember… she’s my new friend.” Ember smiled at the frustrated lady. “Nice to meet you, Ember. Your father and the rest of this town are out looking for you! Where’ve been?” “Mom, I’m fine. Here, meet Polily!” As he picked up the Pokemon to show his mom, an explosion went off. “What was that?” Ember looked out the window. “It’s coming from Route 1!” As they hurried toward the explosion, a giant balloon lowered into the clearing. A net picked up about ten people, then the balloon started flying towards them. In the distance someone was laughing. A rocket shot right toward Axel. Frozen in fear, the rocket came two feet away from Axel. Closer and closer it got until… To be continued.
