Title: A Cosmic Love

By A Cosmic Downpour

Ash awoke in his room completely at ease with his surroundings. Although the pale white and blue pinstripe sheets were pulled high over his head he could sense if not faintly see the warm strips of sunlight dancing on his ceiling. It had been 4 weeks since he had returned from Sinnoh; and the adrenaline from his win was slowly receding. He could feel pressure on his right shin and knew he’d find Pikachu snoring quietly when he looked. He closed his eyes and deeply inhaled the scent of fresh linen and the lavender and honeysuckle plants growing outside his window. He slowly removed the sheets from over his eyes and watched the sunlight dance lazily on his ceiling for 5 minutes before slowly easing his leg from under Pikachu and walking across the cool maple floor to his desk. He placed his hands gingerly on the stack of letters on top and merely felt them in hopes of absorbing the words inside. He counted them over and over feeling a small smile grow on his face and noticed the feel of warm beautiflies waltzing in his stomach. All of the letters were from the same person. Misty. (He once mistook the feeling of waltzing in his stomach as a sign of how close his friendship with Misty was. His heart however had grown for her since his stay in Sinnoh and although his head didn’t know it yet. His heart knew it belonged to a red haired girl) When he arrived home from Sinnoh he had only one letter on his desk. Misty had written to him claiming power would be out in her gym for a couple weeks due to an unfortunate blast from her Gyrados. “I’m so proud of you Ash. You battled out there like you never have before, you’ve grown so much and I’m sorry I missed this journey with you. I hope I’m there walking with you the next time you leave pallet town.” He reread those words so often he had them memorized. He couldn’t help but to notice the formality with which she spoke with and wondered “had she matured some too?” He noticed he had. Not only had he grown about a foot during his stay in Sinnoh thanks to the countless climbs of mount coronet, as well as Brock’s delicious and nutritious cooking. He was in the best shape he had ever experienced and his attitude had changed as well. Spending those long months without Misty made him realize how much he missed the bickering. The casual jokes and laughs he shared with her and Brock made him feel a little hollow in the pit of his stomach. Of course he met countless friends and Pokemon but it felt like he was constantly forgetting something and that feeling kept tugging at the corners of his mind during his entire stay in Sinnoh.

Ash glanced at his reflection in the mirror. His warm brown eyes were staring back at him taking in the smooth complexion kissed by the sun. freckles almost to faint to make out were placed sporadically under his eyes. His black hair was finally tamed. After cutting it short when arrived home his once neglected jet black hair was now cut rather short on the back and sides. And swept back and over in the front giving a classic superman meets frank Sinatra look. He splashed some cool water on his eyelids and then proceeded to turn on his shower. He watched the rapid downpour bounce chaotically against the brown and green glass floor tiles, almost hypnotized. His mind thought of nothing in particular except for the face of the girl with the flaming red hair. When he noticed a faint steam beginning to cloud the bathroom mirror he stripped his clothes and walked gingerly into the hot water. He felt it cascade onto his head and he let his mind wonder to the most recent letter he read from Misty. “ Ash I can’t help but to feel bad for missing out on this experience with you. I know I knooow you can’t understand why but I feel like I missed out on so many important moments with you ya know? (after about the fifth letter the playful misty he once spent so much time with was starting to emerge) your one of my best friends and I found a way to make it up to myself! Yes myself not you. I’m sure you were preoccupied battling Pokemon and meeting new friends to be concerned with my absence but I can’t help to feel guilty. SO! I HAVE DECIDED TO THROW YOU A WELCOME HOME/ GOOD JOB/ I MISSED YOU PARTY!!!! Do not try to argue it’s happening. Maybe we could do a theme party! And I’ll be sure to invite all of our friends it’ll be great trust me!” Ash wasn’t a huge fan of parties, but he was excited about the idea of seeing Misty soon so he eagerly agreed, and a 1920’s themed party was planned by Misty.

Ash scrubbed his hair with the lemon scented shampoo and conditioner and thought about the outfit he had bought with a little style help from his mother. During Ash’s long absences Delilah took comfort as well as an interest into the world of fashion spending days watching the style channel, project runway, as well as sex in the city. She began to grow a talent and understanding of the constantly changing world of fashion. And when Ash came home although he swore his mother not to tell he began watching the shows with her. For the party he had picked up a pair of silver suede saddle shoes a long sleeved white and silver pinstriped button up shirt and some well fitted high waisted black pants. His mother had provided some of his father’s old antique cuff links and he was excited to show off to Misty his new matured look. He was about to turn off the hot water when he remembered today was the day that Misty would be arriving! They had decided to have her come two days early for the party so they could catch up. Ash immediately kept the water running and began to lather more body wash on, while a wide grin emerged on his face.

Misty awoke in her sunny bedroom and dug her face deeper into the cobalt colored pillows. The recesses of her mind were dark, calm, and blank. She thought of nothing in particular except for a repetitive face in her dreams. The face of Ash Ketchum. She contemplated whether or not she would have time to fall back to sleep before she remembered today was the day she left for Pallet Town! She sprung out of bed so suddenly that it caused her Azurill which was cuddled against the back of her neck to cry out in shock and roll off of its pillow to the foot of the bed. She ran to the bathroom grabbing the outfit she painstakingly laid out the night before with her. Travel friendly yet appropriate for a reuniting with her friend she was proud of what she came up with. A strapless cotton gown that started off pleated near the bust, but became straight and cascaded down to her ankles. It was a light tan color and had an intricate faded black pattern all over, which she couldn’t decide was either an African tribal pattern or a more Irish Celtic knot design. Inside, some of the pattern was randomly filled in with a faint powdery cerulean blue color the same color as her eyes. The dress was extremely comfortable and she paired it with some ankle high, dark brown leather gladiator sandals.

As she washed her hair with her apple and cherry blossom shampoo, she thought of the Ash she once traveled with and the one she saw in a recent newspaper. The change was….phenomenal! the short classic hair cut the sudden trade from travel friendly clothes to masculine chic ones were a pleasant if not shocking change Yet the toothy smile and the way he held his Pikachu completely reminded her of the old Ash. She had cut out the newspaper picture and kept it hidden inside her pillow case along with all of the letters he had sent back to her. She continued cleaning her hair and contemplated telling him that the power had been back on in the gym almost two days after she sent the letter. But the concept of sending letters had always been so…so romantic to her so secretive. And she couldn’t bare the thought of potentially causing an awkward scenario by video chatting with this now suave man. She focused and repeated today’s schedule in her head. “leave today at 10 for the Cerulean City Train. Arrive outside Pallet Town City where Ash will pick me up at 3.” She had been packed for a couple days now often double checking her suit case twice a day. She was leaving the responsibilities of the Pokemon and the gym to her head trainer and planned on only taking her Azurill, (and her Gyrados incase of an emergency.) with her.

She finished in the shower and grabbed the deep violet towel and wrapped it around her. She wiped the fog off of her outdated bathroom mirror and stared at her face while she brushed her teeth. Although she would describe her complexion as milky and pale others (ash for example) would describe it as porcelain so fine and so luminescent any goddess would be struck with envy. Her eyelashes (thankfully she thought) were black and long, not the fiery red of her hair. Actually she thought her hair seemed to have darkened some due to the constant hours in the gym as opposed to the long amount of time she had spent following ash outside. It was almost a deep crimson now. Her hair. The one true aspect of her appearance she had no complaint about. She had let it grow this past year and it was now about half an inch above her elbow. She spent about a good half hour trying to curl her hair without causing it to singe. She ended up however after all of her hard work tying it into a low side ponytail. It was low enough that the loose attempt at curls could caress and fall past her shoulder. She quickly applied deodorant, sprayed a healthy or rather large dose of cherry blossom perfume on her body, clothes, and hair. And head out the door with her Azurill on her shoulder and her suit case rolling behind her. She glanced at the high forest trees placed on the road to the train station now splashed with the faintest tips of gold, red, and yellow and she couldn’t help herself from smiling ear to ear as she pulled out her ticket to pallet town. The idea that she would be seeing Ash in less then 6 hours made her utter an almost inaudible giggle. She was nervous, excited and made sure that the letters from ash were in the side pocket of her suit case before having the attendant punch a poke ball shaped hole in her ticket, and she climbed onboard. She walked down the train to the very back and opened one of the sliding glass doors to an empty apartment. She sat down next to the window and decided to quickly paint her toenails before the train got the chance to lurch forward. She finished rather quickly only to notice that it was only 9:48. So she slouched in her chair gazing out the window. She was absentmindedly stroking her Azurill and biting her bottom lip, trying with all of her might to urge the train forward.
