Prologue Shinpei Takagi (The Ugly) Shinpei waited on the first floor of a hotel in the middle of nowhere. He knew the bounty hunters were drawing close. Being a former member of Team Rocket, he had trained himself to know when his enemies were close. It would be so easy to run. His Kawasaki was sitting right outside with the keys in the ignition. Shinpei perished the thought of running like a coward. His Mightyena lie crooning at his feet. Then the dog pokemon’s ears perked up at a sound. They had finally caught up. Suddenly, without the command of his master, the Mightyena jumped to his feet, and used Hyper Beam. Shinpei turned and looked out of the hole in the front wall of the hotel. Outside were three men lying on the ground howling in pain. They hadn’t even a chance to grab their pokeballs. Shinpei saw this as an opportunity to eliminate the threat to himself, but before Mightyena could administer the finishing move, one of the hotel patrons picked up the phone and called the police. Shinpei returned his Mightyena, turned and ran to his bike and started it. The engine roared, and Shinpei was gone. “Blondie” (The Good) An un-named 18 year-old male sat waiting behind a rock in the mountains for about ten minutes. He adjusted his brown cowboy hat, and ran his fingers through his blonde hair. Then he pulled a piece of gum out of his pocket, and put it in his mouth. He was a bounty hunter. The boy trailed three men all the way from Cerulean City to a road in the mountains, near Mt. Moon. The three men had found the road they desired and waited. One was crouched behind a tree, listening to a police scanner. “He’s comin’!” He yelled to his two friends. They stretched a rope across the road, and then hid. A motorcycle could be heard in the distance, gunning its engines. When the motorcycle neared, they pulled the rope tight, and watched as the rider was clothes- lined to the ground. The blonde bounty hunter shifted his weight, and moved silently down the hill, while pulling out his Pichu’s pokeball. He released Pichu, and waited. His plan was to take the other bounty hunters out, and take the prize for himself. Shinpei Takagi staggered to his feet. “Hey, do you know that you’re beautiful enough to be worth 200,000 dollars?” One shouted to him. The blonde’s cold words stopped Shinpei from answering. “Yeah, and you don’t look man enough to collect.” His ice blue eyes pierced right through the man who spoke. “And you are? You’re a boy!” One of the three mocked. “Don’t get any funny ideas.” The blonde spoke softly, but the words had an edge to them. The men made a move for their pokeballs but the blonde’s Pichu was on the offensive. It screeched a loud battle cry as it dropped all three of them with one electrical attack. “Thanks a lot ‘Blondie’” Shinpei said with a grin. He bent over and tried to pick up his bike, but a boot came down on it, forcing it back to the ground. “How much are you worth now?” The blonde said menacingly. “200,000 dollars. Weren’t you listening?” Shinpei said impatiently. “That’s right; 200,000 dollars.” The blonde said with a wicked look in his eyes. Rafael “Angel Eyes” Calvara (The Bad) Officer Rafael Calvara sat in his car, staring down the street. He was a detective for the Pewter City Police, but more than that he was a major figurehead in the criminal underworld. His fellow officers knew he was corrupt, but the “Code of Silence” (which was practiced by all police officers,) prevented them from bringing him to justice. In the criminal underworld he was known simply as “Angel Eyes.” “Uh Sarge, we got a report of Shinpei Takagi, who has been sighted near the base of Mt. Moon.” A voice said to him over the radio in his car. “Roger that, I’ll check it out.” He said to the radio. He started the car and drove to the foot of Mt. Moon, where he found a young blonde, and his Kadabra and Pichu, transporting Shinpei, to Pewter City. “Hi there, sunny. Looks like you made quite a catch.” Angel Eyes commented but the blonde didn’t say a word. “When I get my hands on you, I’ll tear you limb from limb!” Shinpei screamed, as he struggled against Kadabra’s telepathic grip. “You’ll burn in hell for this!” The Kadabra lowered Shinpei to eye-level so the blonde could intimidate him. The blonde hissed something in Shinpei’s ear, but Angel Eyes couldn’t hear what he had said. “Up yours!” Shinpei shouted, and then started struggling again. Pewter City Police Station They had gotten Shinpei into a cell and tranquilized him because he simply refused to shut his mouth. The next day Angel Eyes over saw the loading of Shinpei into a truck for immediate transport to a medium security prison, in the mountains. “Well Sarge, I’m glad we’re finally gonna put ‘em away.” The driver said to Angel Eyes as they drove down a road in the forest. “Not all condemned men get what they deserve.” He said with an uneasy feeling. “What makes you say that sir?” The driver asked. Angel Eyes jerked his thumb to the back of the truck, and said, “Even a filthy beggar like him, has a guardian angel out there somewhere.” As soon as the words left his mouth, a thousand Pin Missiles came out of the bushes and punctured every tire on the truck. “What the hell was that?!?” The driver yelled in disbelief. He lost control, and wrapped the front end of the truck around a tree. The blonde who had brought him to Pewter City, stepped out onto the road, right in front of them, followed by a Jolteon. “A golden-haired angel watches over this man.” Angel Eyes said to the driver just before falling into unconsciousness.
