Prologue – Old Remembrances

“So are you ready, Pikachu,” called a voice out of the inky blackness.

“Pi pika cha”

“Ready, for what?”

“Pi chu!”

“Oh, *that*,” the Pikachu’s trainer muttered darkly as if remembering something.

“Pi ka chu *ka* chu?”

“I’d rather not, Pikachu.”

“Pi ka chu”

“You’ll see”

“Ka,” she said meekly, not understanding.

A figure walked out of the gloom. Clad in jet-black clothes, a hood covering his features. Night-black gloves also covered his hands. Golden eyes glowed beneath the cover of the hood. He stared, apparently, at the sky. Trying to forget his nightmares. He couldn’t help but remember. It was a night similar to this…

…The stars and moon shone brightly that night. It meant one thing. Tonight was the night.

“Misty. Hey, Misty. Will you come here for a sec, please?” Ash asked.

“Ok, Ok. I’m coming.” She replied.

He briefly gathered his thoughts before she came and sat next to him, by the fireside.

“So, Ash. What do you want to tell me?”

“Have you ever kept a secret from everybody, for a long time?”

“Yeah, so…”

“Do you remember what it felt like?”

“What does this have anything to do with what you’re about to say,” Misty said, uncertainly.

At that remark, Ash turned away. He was visibly upset.

“I thought so.”

“You thought what?” Misty asked, irritably.

“That it was wrong to think of you as my soul mate,” he replied, in an icy tone.

Misty fell silent at that. ‘Oh my God. He actually thought of me as his soul mate. Shit. I hurt him.’ She spoke aloud. “Why do think of me as your soul mate, Ash?”

“Because, you are my best friend…”

He was cut off as a small “Pika” sound was distinctly heard over the quiet night.

“Best *human* friend and that…” He paused, wondering if he should tell her.

“Go on.”

“I…… lo…love…you…Misty,” Ash stuttered out.

“………”

“You, you hate me,” Ash whispered, his heart shattering. He began to pack up his stuff.

“Ash…I…,” Misty failed to break the uneasiness between them.

Ash said something as he was packing his stuff up. “If that’s how you feel Misty, you’ll have great pleasure in the fact that I’m leaving as soon as I’ve packed up.”

He prodded Pikachu awake.

“Pikapi, pi ka chu.” Pikachu muttered angrily.

“Good. We’re leaving.”

Pikachu slowly gathered her Ketchup packets and hopped in Ash’s backpack.

He put his Pokemon League cap on and ran off, into the distance…

…Back to the present…

…He lowered his gaze from the night sky to the place around him. It seemed natural that out of all the things he wanted was that he wanted peace in himself, after what that, that *thing* had done to him. How could he have peace inside himself? He had to stop thinking and start doing.

He quietly walked on, into the dark forest that lay before him.

<><><>

A few hours later.

A person in the distance.

‘Who could that be?’ Ash asked himself. He kept on walking.

A few minutes passed. The person kept on slowly approaching. It was…unnerving.

A person clad in complete cerulean blue revealed itself.

Little by little, the figure walked towards him.

It was about 500 meters away when he realized that it was a woman with glowing blue eyes.

He turned to the left about 40 degrees and continued walking.

She passed him.

He had an uncanny feeling that this woman stopped for a while and started to follow him. He cloaked himself in shadows and stopped.

“Fuck. I lost him,” was all that he heard from her and she started running towards him. He sidestepped slightly, without making a noise.

She continued running towards him as though she knew where he was.

She did. She had always known where to find him. She made sure of that.

She slowed down and stopped.

“Well, well, well. If it isn’t the great Ashura. Hiding. From me,” she said sarcastically. She lowered her hood.

He ran towards her, still cloaked in shadows, arms outstretched to her neck. He wanted to kill her.

She sidestepped, quickly turning, kneeing Ash hard in the stomach.

“How did you know?” He questioned.

“I have always known,” she replied frigidly. “You should not have come here, you traitor.” She said, saying the last word without any regret.

“What?”

“Yes. You betrayed your friends, hell; you even betrayed you own family. Why would anyone like you?” She said scathingly.

Ash felt as though the wind was knocked out of him. He replied with remorse.

“Yes. Why would anyone like me?”

The last comment Ash made about himself broke him down. He wasn’t even worth life, from what he has done with it.

“Ash? Ash!” She whispered in his ear.

Slowly, he looked up.

He saw beautiful, crimson lips. He kept on going. He saw an alert, pointed nose. Still going. Large sapphire eyes, greeted his golden ones. Finally, cascading red hair flowing over her shoulders nearly down to her waist.

“Misty,” Ash whispered.

She looked upset at that.

“Mistaria,” she corrected and slapped him hard across the face.

<><><>

He suddenly woke up.

“Pi, Pikapi, kachu,” Pikachu whispered to her trainer.

Ash slowly got up.

“Thanks, Pikachu.”

Pikachu just pointed to the outside of his tent and went out.

He followed.

There was a campfire burning, with marshmallows roasting on twigs.

“Thanks again, Pikachu,” Ash said as he scratched her behind her ears.

“Pi Pikachu, pikachupi?”

“Really, how could you tell?”

“Pi pikachupi chu, pi ka pikachupi ka!”

“It was a nightmare, Pikachu. That’s all.”

“Ka chu.”

Ash eagerly dumped his face into his food, never suspecting the danger that was to pass in a few days.

<><><>

“You pig, Ashura. You pig.”

<><><>

“Huh,” Ash looked up and around.

“Pi,”

“I thought I heard something.”

“Ka. Pi chu.”

Ash resumed his eating.
