Ash sighed while Tracey, his mom, Misty, were all shopping for clothes, his arms felt so sore from the mountain of bags and they were all Misty's. "You know, I don't get you girls. What's with this many clothes if you're just going to go for one party? I mean come on, look at how much you're bought already! The shoes, the socks, the dress, and some pieces of accessories but that's all in this one bag." Showing her a single bag with the name: Dresses, Items, Tuxedos, Shoes, DITS! "Well, since you have no sense of fashion, It'd be impossible for me to explain it to you wouldn't it?" She turned away, walking into another store. "Misty. Misty!" He entered the store, it was called: Rockette Fashions. Hmm. This place sounds so familiar I wonder where I've heard it before. Oh well. "Misty? Where are you?" The orange hair stuck out in the blue clothing section, which he thought was kind of stupid for a store to have. "Are you just about done? The party is in two and a half hours!" Misty turned her head. "Oh yeah, this place is really tacky and I have to take a long shower, all this shopping has gotten me all exhausted and sweaty." Suddenly, she bumped into an attendant who looked very familiar with red hair. "Hey, don't I-" Ash bored out of his mind, pushed Misty forward before she decided to change her mind and led her away from the angered attendant. "Ash! What is the deal with pushing me?!" He sighed, dropping the bags, to his relief. "I'm sorry Misty! But you're going to have to find yourself someone else who can carry your bags! If you want someone to take you wherever you want to go, buy you whatever you want, and carry your bags, maybe you should try to find yourself a boyfriend!" He stomped away, heading for the exit. Misty was screaming in the background, although he tried to ignore the comments. "Ash! Ash! Get back here mister! ASH!" Now she was pleading. "Well, well, fine! Maybe I just will!" She began picking up the bags, her arms were full and still there were two left on the ground. As she reached for it, failing miserably and landed on her bottom with a great big thump. "Ouch!" Humph! I don't even know why I'm doing this! Ash walked back, his arm throbbed. "Here." He laid his hand down to help her and she clasped it. "Don't bother to ask why I'm doing this, I'm not even sure." "Aww, don't be grumpy! I know you're just trying to be sweet." She didn't know how she could say those things, but the words were out and nothing she could do now. "Well, are you going to help me or do I have to pick these bags up myself?" "Don't make me regret it." They proceeded to pick the bags, equally sharing the weight, although Ash just had to let one off of Misty because he was a guy and his muscles were a lot bigger than hers, although he would go to court to prove that Misty was a lot stronger than she looked. Back at the house, it seemed like a pile of clothes had exploded in Misty's room. There were dresses, bracelets, necklaces, matching shoes, socks, hair pins, scrunches, irons, curlers, it almost looked like a whole store, a small business one but still store-like amounts of clothing. The Ketchum residence had become a huge changing room for Delilah and Misty. The way girls could do all that shopping was beyond him, maybe even beyond every guy. Still, he had to get ready for the party and wrap the present for Lara for giving him the heads up about the party. In other parts of town, Gary was trying on his tuxedo. Looking at himself to make sure the thing wasn't too large or too small. "I just have to make this perfect for my darling Lara. She's so kind, and sweet, and beautiful." May walked in and dusted off the speck on Gary's right shoulder and straighten down his jacket. "Well little bro, how do you know those things about her? I thought you said she just talk to you for a minute and left. And how'd you get to go to the party anyways? I thought it was only for members and the elite four? And you're neither." Gary cleared his throat a couple times before squeaking quietly. "Ash invited me." "What was that? I didn't hear." "Um, Ash. Invited." "Say it again, I still can't hear." "I SAID ASH INVITED ME!" "Well you don't have to YELL!" May combed through her long soft brown hair and smiled. "You mean to tell me that you and Ash are on good terms now? That's a laugh, and ha! You beat him at the pokemon league tournament and he invites you to a dinner party. I just don't get it? Besides, why wasn't I invited to the big event?" He shrugged. "Maybe you should have asked? That's all I did, well, sort of. But anyway aren't you at all curious about how he won the pokemon grand prix and became a member of the clan? I almost swallowed on my tongue when my darling Lara explained it to me." "Grow up Gary, the way you talk, its like that sick boy guy from Pewter who tried to ask me out last month when I visited you and grandpa." She reminisced the memory and frowned upon it. "And once more, where did you get that ridiculously old motor bike?" "Its not old! Its an antique, a bike like that would probably cost a fortune! And I was even lucky that grandpa kept it hidden in the back of his lab. I had to work hard, long hours just to make it run but look at how cool it'd look when I pull up to the door with it." "Yeah, whatever you say little brother. But what I say is, your darling Lara will have you thrown out for bringing such an ugly thing to 'her' party." "What do you mean by 'her' party?" May faltered. "Didn't you know? The date was planned so Lara could have her birthday today and so she would get tons of presents from everyone! I wished I had thought of that so I could get some decent presents myself." "You mean we're supposed to get her a gift? Oh cripes! I need to get to the store I just need to get her a gift!" As Gary was rushing for the door, his collar was held by May. "I worry about you sometimes and its a good thing I'm always prepared. There's a big box downstairs, its gift-wrapped and guaranteed to impress any girl! So relax, and zip up your pants you doduo." Gary smiled nervously and quickly zipped it up. His watch showed that the celebrations were about to begin so he had to hurry or he might miss the drawing that was held. The lucky guy would get sung a song from Lara herself and maybe get a kiss too. "Oh boy, I hope I win." He took a sigh as he got ready to ride his bike to the party, nervousness sweep him and he trembled. "Better hurry, or your darling Lara might give the kiss to someone else!" That put Gary in turbo speed to hurry. === A knock at the door came. "Ash? Are you decent?" "Come in Misty." He stated going back to the wrapping paper. "Geez, how hard can it be to wrap this box?" Misty smiled looking at how good he looked when he was actually clean and had combed his hair a little. "What are you doing? What's in the box?" "Misty, could you help me? I can figure out how to wrap this." She giggled. "For one thing, the paper should be on the bottom with the colorful design on the outside, and another thing, the box should be locked." She stated, locking that box. From her knowledge of fine craftsmanship and the small size, it could only be a music box. "So who's that for?" "Well, its for Lara, a thank you gift." "A thank you gift? For what?" "Telling us about the party." Trying to tape down the paper without getting his finger in the way. "How come you never give me a present?" She asked, a little peeved since she had been with Ash all this time and risking her life on his adventure while Lara, who he hadn't seen for so long and was going to receive a pretty neat music box. "Well, you've never complained before." "Well, now I am! After all I've done for you, you've never even said one thank you to me! If this is the kind of narrow-minded, insensitive little boy are, then I don't even want to be around you!" "That's fine with me!" "Fine!" "Fine!" "Fine!" Misty yelled, slamming his door behind her. Delilah asked what was the matter, Misty fumed. "I'm not going to the party with him! And that's FINAL!" Slamming her guest room door. "FINAL?! Well, I say good riddance! I never needed you on my pokemon journey anyways, you were just always the pain in my side!" Stated Ash, slamming the door again. "Well, at least I was good for something, I'm surprised was able to make you feel pain at all, with that thick block that you call a head!" Slamming doors, insults, the event continued on for another ten minutes until it was time to leave for the party. By that time, Misty had taken off her pinkish-red dress that was out matched by the red on her face. Ash angry and frustrated, had wrinkled his tux and had to change to the extra one he had bought. The knock on her door and she jumped. "Go away Ash!" The door opened. "I said Go- oh, hi Mrs. Ketchum." Misty smiled, what an childish behavior she must be displaying. "Misty, I'm sorry, but we have to leave for the party, please come." "No, I'd rather hug a caterpie than be in the same car as him." "Well, that can be arranged!" Stated Ash, angrily. "Idiot!" "Scrawny!" "Children please! Act your age!" The two stuck out tongues at each other until Ash left. "Misty, we have to go now, so would you please reconsider? If not, try to get there, don't let this little squabble ruin what could be a wonderful evening." As Delilah left, Misty's eye flared. "Oh, I'll show him how not scrawny I am, I'll show him." The driver pulled up to the large building where there were banners and a crowd of people hoping to see the elite four. "Gee, I didn't think there'd be people outside." Ash gulped, nervously. As the door opened and the whole gang stepped out one at a time, the roar of the crowd intensified. "They must think we're famous or something." "Welcome sirs, would you care to try your luck and see if you get the chance to be sung to by the lovely Miss Lara Larami?" Asked the guy at the door. "Sure, I'll take one!" Shouted Tracey with excitement. Ash took a glance around the big hall and shrugged. "Okay, I guess I'll take one too." === It was as nothing he had ever expected a party to be, the beautiful girls in gowns with guys in tuxedos drooling over their dates. The music sounded for the dances to begin and at the top of the stairs was Lara in a beautiful white gown that was held with two straps. "Hi Lara." A sense of familiarity raced through his mind, hadn't he seen this somewhere before? In the past or something? "Hey Ash! So you wanna dance?" "Sure!" He looked around, expecting to see someone who was even more beautiful than Lara but found no one except the exit door swinging. A flash of red hair going outward. "Hey, isn't tha-." "What? Where?" Lara looked and found no one. "I don't see anyone." I know I saw something but what was it? He'd have kept on wondering if Lara hadn't dragged him to the dance floor. The group of invited guests sat down at their reserved table, being at head with the best seats to see the stage. The orchestra began to play and Delilah tapped Tracey's shoulder. "Would you like to dance?" "Sure Mrs. Ketchum." Much to the surprise of his friends, Ash had the grace and shallow movements that could only be described as very skilled. The dance soon ended with the softening of the music and the huge spotlight lit up on the stage. A man came up, Ash guessed it was Lara's father because of the hair and eyes. With a big smile, Lara's father, Lance, greeted everyone. Saying a few jokes that were corny but still laughed at because people had to be polite, the moment all the guys in the room had waited for came. "All right, everyone. The winner of this year's event is to be presented the special song of the night by my daughter, Lara. And...drum please...the winner is, number six, two, five, one." A lot grunts and groans were heard, Tracey himself did as he looked at his number. "Just two numbers off." He snapped his fingers. "So Ash what does yours say?" Ash shook away from his day dream. "Huh? Oh, its says 6251." "What?" The group questioned. "Ash, you won!" Said Tracey with great excitement. "Come on get up there. Lara's just waiting up there for you so she can sing to you." Me? "But I don't want it, why don't you take it?" "Ash?" He looked up, Lara was on stage, telling him to get up there. So was the whole mob of people except the guys who were hoping to be Tracey and get the ticket. "Well, if you don't want it, then I'll take!" Said Gary happily. "Boy, do you know how hard it is to park a motor bike? I thought that maybe it would be easy since it was so small but all the streets from here to Pallet are covered bumper to bumper with cars!" "Ash, please." Lara said softly. "Not Gary." She growled. "Come on..." He bowed his head and proceeded up to the stage. "Well, look, there's the winner now!" As he approached chair on the stage, Lara's father gave him a whisper. "You'd better give my daughter a big clap when she's done alright?" "Yes, of course sir." Lara cued the orchestra and began humming to the music. The spotlight dimmed and the ballroom was filled with stars. Out here in the quiet of the night, Beneath the stars...and moon, We both we've got something on our minds, We won't admit, but its true. You look at me, I look away, I wanna tell ya what I'm feelin', But I don't how start, I wanna tell ya but now, I'm afraid that you'd might break my heart, Oh why should anything so easy ever be so hard to do, I wanna tell ya what I'm feelin', To say that, I love you I practice all the things that I would say, Line by line, every word, I tell myself, today would be the day, But everytime, I lose my nerve, I look at you, You look away, I wanna tell ya what I'm feelin', But I don't how start, I wanna tell ya but now, I'm afraid that you'd might break my heart, Oh why should anything so easy ever be so hard to do, I wanna tell ya what I'm feelin', To say that, I love you Why, why do you turn away, It must be that you're afraid like me, I try, but I can pretend that I, Don't feel for you, the way I do, Can't you see? I wanna tell ya what I'm feelin', But I don't how start, I wanna tell ya but now, I'm afraid that you'd might break my heart, Oh why should anything so easy ever be so hard to do, I wanna tell ya what I'm feelin', To say that, I love you, I wanna tell ya what I'm feelin', But I don't how start, I wanna tell ya but now, I'm afraid that you'd might break my heart, Oh why should anything so easy ever be so hard to do, I wanna tell ya what I'm feelin', To say that, I love you... The spotlight changed back to Lara and she walked up to Ash. He smiled. "Well, do you wanna kiss?" Asked Lara moving the microphone from her mouth. "Um..." He hesitated, but saw the look on Lance. "Okay." A few cheers and jeers came with some boos, which were mainly from Gary. She walked over and kissed his cheek but close to his lips, blocking the crowd from view with her long hair. "Have some fun tonight and relax okay? You look like you're bored, are you bored?" She whispered. "No." He said quickly, looking around. "Not at all." Politeness never was his strong suit but he couldn't just tell Lara that he wasn't having much fun. "Lair. You're not very good you know?" He smiled. "Go sit down at your table and I'll be right with you." Ash sat down at his table, looking around still for something, although he knew not what. Then, something caught his eyes. "Say Gary?" He got up and walked over to the pokemon master. He lifted off a strand of orange hair which was very clear on Gary's pure white tuxedo. "This looks like Misty's." "Oh yeah, I forgot, she kind of asked me to drop her off here. Although I didn't know why she was still at your house when I got there. Did you leave her in your big hurry to get a kiss from my darling Lara? I mean, Lara." Sweatdropping, smiling, Gary just sat back down. Ash looked all over the ballroom, not a sign of Misty. No red hair or even orange. He lifted Gary off his seat by the collar. "Where is she?" He asked, threateningly. "Ahh, how should I know? I saw her come in but after I saw you dancing with Lara, I lost her." "I knew it." Tracey rose an eyebrow, curiously. "Can you let me down now Ketchum?!" Screamed Gary who squirmed with his feet not touching the ground. For a little guy, Ash was able to lift him up quite easily. "Oh, yeah, sure." He dropped Gary and smiled nervously at the group who was staring at him. "Ha ha ha ha, ah ha. I-I'm going to get some fresh air if you don't mind." He slid his way to the door and exited. "Phew. What's wrong with me tonight?" He shook his head and looked over the balcony, the stars glowing brightly even though they were in the city. "Ah..." He inhaled the soft cool gentle night breeze that blew passed his face. Although the tranquil moment was relaxing, the soft tapping of high heel shoes distracted his attention as he looked down to the lower balcony, seeing a girl in a beautiful cerulean dress that hung loosely on her milky cream skin. He stepped down softly, trying to not make a sound as he arrived on the lower balcony and climbed to sit on the edge, focusing his attention on balancing so that he wouldn't fall back into the water fountain below. He sighed deeply to get the attention of the mysterious girl who was pacing back and forth, sometimes reaching for the door into the building but just turned back. Anyone could see that she was deciding on whether or not to go into the ballroom. Her head turned to his way and her face glistened in the moonlight. "Huh?" Misty, Ash almost laughed. He thought she was a stranger, but by the light on her hair, showing her features, she was definitely Misty. "Who are you?" Didn't she recognize him? He wondered but soon found that he was nothing but a shadow to her since the moonlight had hidden his face. "I sorry for intruding, I was just wondering what you were doing out here all alone?" Maybe I'll just play a little game with her, but something in the back of his mind told him that it was going to hurt if she found out. "I'm just taking a small break from the dancing, you know, it can be really tiresome. Oh, where are my manners, my name's Misty." "Well Misty, you don't look like you've broken a sweat. And I surely haven't seen you on the dance floor." She bowed her head. "Oh, I'm sorry for lying to you. Its just that, there's this guy I kind of don't want to see me. He's like one of those people who can annoy the heck out of you, you know?" Ash groaned softly. "And yet, sometimes, that person can turn around and be sweet and kind and caring." She sighed. "But here am I, talking to you as if you were my best friend in the whole world. Say, what's your name? You didn't tell me." Oh no, backfire. "Me?" He squeaked. "My, my, name is..." He looked around, for something, anything. Her goldeen pins were funny looking and very highlighted in the light. "Golde-, My name is Gold." Misty looked suspiciously at him and smiled. "Hey Gold, would you like to dance?" "Um, won't that guy see you?" Please work. She looked a little worried, but what was she going to do, stay hidden outside while Ash was probably having the time of his life? "I don't really mind anymore." I'm dead. "Look Misty, I don't really think I should, some girl said that I had two left feet and I don't want to step on your toes or any-" "Hey Ash, where are you?" Called Lara, opening the doors that lighted up his face. "There you are, Tracey said that you were out here and who's that?" "ASH!!" Misty screamed angrily. Her fury was visible as he could see that her arms tighten. "I hate you! You are a dirty, disgusting, idiotic, little worm!" She ran in a hurry, not knowing that she had entered the ballroom. Oh, I am going to regret this, Ash thought, closing his eyes. He followed her in, finding her frozen as the whole ballroom was completely quiet, staring at Misty, with not even a cricket chirping. "Hey! Look who's here, the special guest of honor. The beautiful and talented Misty Waterflower!" Yelled Lara, clapping. The crowd followed. "She is the person who wrote that incredible song that I sang on stage for Ash! So lets have the honor guests, take a slow one!" The spotlight landed on Ash and Misty. Regretting it really badly now, Ash feared. He had to lead Misty, her fear on the crowd still staring at her. Of course her anger reappeared in the form of a strong grip even though her smiling face was deceiving them. "How dare you Ash?" "What's the big problem?" "You know, I should have been cursing you about you when I thought you were 'Gold'. How I couldn't tell that it was you, I won't even guess. Because only a person like you could have let me rant like that." "Well, you were the one talking, I was just sitting there." "You could have stopped me." She stated, gripping harder on his hand. "Take it easy will ya? I could have but I just wanted to see what you thought of me. And now I know." "Oh, what 'do' you know?" She said in an attitude. "Maybe I was just kidding about what I said. Maybe I was just pretending not to know that it was you there." "Yeah right. You were surprised as hell when you saw me, I could see that in your eyes." She mumbled something about her eyes and giving him a boot where it hurt. "Look, I am sorry about listening but it was the only way to stop you from pacing, those high heels of yours kept clicking and clacking on the cement. I was driving me nuts." "And what should you have done? I'll tell you, you should have told me to go inside, that's what you should have done." "Now where's the fun in that?" Her hands tightened further. "Okay, I see your point but even if you had gone in, you would have probably smacked me upside the head for not telling you immediately who I was. Now aren't I right?" She wondered, if she had came in finding Ash behind her, she would have cracked his skull with her mallet. "Aside from that, I thought you said that I was sweet, kind, and caring?" Misty rested her head on his shoulder and bit his ear. He surpressed the pain, allowing only a small grunt to come out. "I was quite mistaken you jerk." The music was ending and so she went to sit down at the table, away from Ash as much as possible. He took a sigh and sat down. The rest of the night went pretty smooth, with the occasional glares between the two youngest members at the table, mainly Ash and Misty. Lara thanked everyone for the gifts, especially Ash's because she had never gotten such a beautiful gift before. Gary's gift, however, was not that pleasant for Lara, which were exotic flowers imported from Johto that she was allergic to, making him a big loser in Lara's opinion. === Next day, the fights were at an all time high with a storm brewing directly above the living room. The hallway was filled with tension as a squabble began over who got into the lavatory first. Of course Delilah tried to solve the dilemma by suggesting Ash use her bathroom but that only lead to more fighting about who's house this was and Misty leading to her being a guest. "Well, Ash! Don't you know that guests should be treated with respect?!" "Guest? Guest know when to go home! You seem more like a pest to me!" Misty couldn't stand him and they glared to each other. The nice thing about this was, a call from Professor Oak for Ash, making Misty the winner of the argument by taking her morning shower. Ash grumbled angrily. "So Professor Oak? What do you want?" The esteemed researcher smiled happily. "Well Ash, as you know, since Gary has reached his peak as a pokemon master, I was suggesting that you could try your hand eastward. Did you know, there's a brand new league opening east? Its called the Igonean Pokemon League, its very radical in its practices and could have very fierce gym leaders. Well, think about it. Oh my tofu is ready. I'll talk to you next time." Professor Oak took a sigh, mumbling about getting two chefs that would switch off between vacation time. Ash turned off the vid-phone. "A new league huh?" Well, if what Professor Oak says is true then, maybe the Igonean League will be tougher than the Johto League. The question floated around his head the whole day, nothing seem to bother him. A new league, he thought. A new journey was waiting, that is if he took it. New adventure, dangers, maybe even pokemon. He popped open his pokedex. "I've seen 231 different species of pokemon and its not full yet." He closed his eyes, the wind blew through his spiky hair and the whispering wind told him just what to do. "Okay, I'm going to do it! I'm going to compete in the Igonean League!" Wherever he goes from here on out, he was going to win the trophy, that much he promised to himself. ________________________________________________________________________________________ Yeah!
