Misty’s View Life couldn’t get much better. For me, anyway. Gary and I have been seeing eachother two months and today is our tenth date. Sounds like a special occasion to me. I put on a dark blue sundress and some flip flops. My hair is straightened and bright orange, as usual. Sara sits on my bed and watche me put on my makeup. She sighs. “I wish I could find someone like Gary…” Sara trails off. “Sorry, hon, he’s mine.” I say with a smile. “I know, but, I mean, I was all wrong about him, Misty. He’s a good guy. I don’t get why he’s not obnoxious anymore.” “It’s called maturing, Sarah. It justs takes awhile for boys to start doing it.” I sigh and close my makeup bag. “Okay, how do I look?” Gary has a table reserved for us already. “I’ve been thinking,” Gary says, “that since we’ve been together for two months, we need to talk.” I gasp. “About what?” I squeak. “Misty, you know exactly what I’m talking about.” Gary sighs. “And I’m sorry, I truly am. I knew there would be no other way to get you attracted to me.” “Huh?” I ask, confused. “Wait-you didn’t know?” Gary asks, bewildered. “No!” I squeal. “Sophie said she swore you knew…” Gary muttered. “Wait, Sophie? You used your little sister to make me jealous?” I ask in a loud voice. Gary shrugged. “Well, it worked, didn’t it?” “Oooh, Gary..” I say. “I think that calls for a break up.” “WHAT! HOLD ON!” Gary slams his fork down. “That didn’t, nor does it, have any effect on our relationship. I just used her to go out with you. The rest was real! I’ll admit, Sara coached me through some of the first dates, but I know how to act around the ladies now.” Gary winked. “Are you sure?” I ask quietly. “Positive.” Gary says. “But you’re right, let’s break up.” “O..k..a..y.” I say slowly. “So what now?” Gary asks. “Let’s just finish our dinner.” I say matter-of-factly. “Hey, Misty?” “Yeah?” “This means we’re still friends right?” Gary asks, scared. I smile. “Of course.” Sara’s View Misty walks in the door. “How was the date?” I ask excitedly. “Oh, it was fine. We broke up.” Misty said, with no hint of emotion in her voice. “Oh, I’m sorry.” I say. “It’s fine, really. We’re still friends.” Misty smiled. “So, it’s still early, right?” “Yeah, only 7:00.” I say, looking at the clock on the wall. “Okay, well, I’ll be back.”
