POKEMON Golden Sun Series Two: A Heart of Gold

Part Twenty-Seven

The Electrifyingly Easy Battles

The Trainer Triad awoke in the Pokemon Center, Squall’s hand was bandaged, Bayline was unusually happy, Peppermint was sitting on Coco’s shoulder lazily, and Coco was eating like she hadn’t eaten in weeks. When they arrived in the night in Vermilion City, nobody was out, but now people were everywhere. The Pokemon Center began to fill up slowly; Coco planned to leave to challenge the gym leader here.

"You want to leave now?" Bayline asked. "I mean, we only just arrived last night," Squall’s hand was neatly bandaged, but he had to use his other hand to do most of the work for the rest of the day, or maybe a week.

"Let’s do it when I have an urge to battle," Coco said.

"Don’t you have that urge all the time?" Bayline asked.

"Oh come on Bay, I want to battle some too. After battling with those Grunts, my pokemon level went up mostly by three," Squall said with satisfaction.

"Whatever," Bayline growled, "Let’s go," They packed up and walked out of their room and then handed Nurse Joy their room keys.

"Where could that gym be?" Coco asked, they wandered around Vermilion a little. People were friendly; one of them was friendly enough to guide them to the gym.

"This is the Vermilion gym, if you three are going to challenge him. I’m wishing you luck, no one has beaten him on their first try," the man said as he walked away, leaving them to stare at the gym.

"I wonder what kinds of pokemon he uses?" Bayline wondered aloud.

"We’ll never find out if we don’t go inside," Squall barked.

"Well, if we do go inside, you’re going to lose no doubt about it," Bayline laughed.

"What are you talking about? Back on Cinnabar Island you told me I had the stronger team," Squall growled.

"I just said that so I could go with Coco," Bayline snapped.

"You Big Baby! You’re jealous ‘cause I’m better then you and always will," Squall growled. Bayline glared at him, Coco sweat-dropped.

"I earned two badges! Proving I’m just as strong as you!" Bayline growled.

"I have the same number of badges, the tables can turn once we enter this gym you know!" Squall growled.

"Are we ever going to go inside?" Coco asked, Squall and Bayline flared at one another, but looked at her and nodded. They stepped forward and pushed on the door, both doors opened. The lights were off, so they went inside, the door closed behind them.

"Hello!" Coco cried out, "We’re here for a pokemon gym battle!" A lamp hanging above them turned on, two military-like people stood in front of them, one a woman and the other a man.

"Here for a gym battle eh?" the man asked. Squall nodded.

"Hey Boss! Three more pip-squeaks!" the woman shouted. A man much taller then all five of them appeared. Peppermint was behind Coco’s head.

"You three are here for a pokemon battle?" the man asked. The three of them nodded, Coco was much more confident. "Hey, is that a pikachu?" Peppermint’s tail twitched and she jumped to the floor boldly and stared up at him.

"Pikachu," This guy has static electricity auras all over him! Peppermint cried to Coco, she nodded. Peppermint’s tail and ears twitched.

"Well, ever since I met Ash, I learned never to underestimate a pre-evolved pokemon," the man said. "I welcome your match, who’s first?" Bayline stepped forward.

"Well little missy, welcome to the battlefield, by the way, the name’s Lt. Surge," he said as every light switched on. Lt. Surge walked on to the left side of the field, Bayline the other. Squall and Coco stood on sidelines, Peppermint watched Lt. Surge with interest, the static electricity had a similar feeling she encountered a long time ago. The woman became the referee, holding a red and green flag, Bayline was green, Lt. Surge was red.

"This battle will be a one-on-one battle, when a pokemon is unable to continue, the opponent wins! Begin!" the woman held up both flags, indicating that they may begin.

"Go! Magnemite!" Lt. Surge shouted, releasing a magnet-like pokemon with one eye. Coco got out Dexter.

"Magnemite, the Magnet pokemon," Dexter beeped, "Uses antigravity to stay suspended. Appears without warning and uses Thunder Wave and similar moves."

"This should be an interesting match," Coco said as she put Dexter away. Squall snorted.

"Yeah, interestedly over with as soon as she releases her pokemon," Squall said with a smirk.

"I heard that! Anyway, go! Blossom!" Bayline shouted, releasing her clefairy.

"Blossom!" Squall and Coco gasped.

"Blossom doesn’t stand a chance against an electric type!" Squall growled, "What a Baby! She even thinks like one!"

"Relax, maybe she has something up her sleeve," Coco told him calmly as she watched the battle.

"Magnemite! Use Thunder Wave!" Lt. Surge commanded.

"Magnemite!" it cried as its magnets launched a paralyzing attack at Blossom.

"Dodge it then use Metronome!" Bayline shouted, Blossom jumped out of the way and moved her fingers back and fourth.

"I forgot all about Metronome, electric pokemon are weak against grass, rock, and ground. There’s a three percent chance out of seven percent to get an attack from one of them," Coco explained.

"Three elements out of seven, there’s grass, fire, water, normal, electric, psychic and fighting right?" Squall asked. Coco nodded.

"Rock and ground fall into the fighting category," Coco added, as Blossom's body turned blue.

"That’s a!" Coco began as rocks flew out of nowhere and landed on the magnemite. "Rock Slide!" When the dust cleared, Magnemite was unconscious, while Blossom was still in perfect health.

"Did she just do what I think she did in a couple of minutes?" Squall asked, both he and Coco’s eyes were bigger and rounder then a golf ball. They weren’t the only ones shocked. Lt. Surge jaws were a mile apart and the woman waved the green flag as if forgetting she was a referee, but a small child celebrating Fourth of July. The man they met earlier looked dazed. Bayline on the other hand was hugging her clefairy for summoning a ground type move.

"Great job Blossom!" she said as she returned her to her ball. Lt. Surge finally arrived back on Earth and returned Magnemite.

"Uh…who’s next?" he asked, probably hoping the next match wouldn’t be so quick to end. Coco giggled, telling Squall that he never lost a match to a first timer at his gym and never had one end so quickly either.

"I’ll go!" Squall volunteered as Bayline and him switched places.

"I can’t believe my luck! Out of all those attacks she could have used, my dear Blossom had summoned a Rock Slide! Awesome isn’t it!" Bayline asked. Coco smiled then nodded. The referee raised her flags and shouted begin.

"Go! Voltorb!" A poke’ball-like pokemon appeared. Once again, Dexter was taken out.

"Voltorb, the Explosion pokemon," Dexter beeped, "Usually found in power plants. Easily mistaken as a poke’ball, they have zapped many people."

"Baboon shouldn’t have much of a problem here," Bayline said, "He has Granite, electricity doesn’t work on ground types," Coco nodded and put Dexter away.

"Go! Granite!" Squall shouted, releasing the shrew. "Use Scratch!" Granite rushed at Voltorb, claws raised and poised to attack.

"Use Thundershock!" Lt. Surge shouted. Granite wasn’t affected by the electrical attack; it scratched Voltorb, not causing much damage. Voltorb shook it off.

"Hey Squall! It would be a good time to for a strategy!" Bayline shouted. Squall glared at her.

"I know that! Granite! Use Rock Throw!" Squall commanded.

"Rock Throw?" Lt. Surge, Coco, and Bayline shouted at the same time. Granite quivered slightly, then the ground began to rumble as rocks appeared out of nowhere and fell on top of Voltorb.

"Dodge them all!" Lt. Surge shouted. Voltorb jumped from one rock to the other, Squall and Granite watched with a sigh of relief as the last, and the biggest boulder cracked on top of Voltorb, but amazingly. Voltorb didn’t faint, but it looked severely damaged.

"We just need one more attack and Voltorb’s history! Use Scratch!" Squall shouted, Granite was sweating slightly, but charged at Voltorb, thus, Voltorb was much weaker and couldn’t take another blow. Lt. Surge only had it learn electric attacks that wouldn’t effect Granite at all. The shrew reached Volrob and scratched it, it fainted.

"The winner is Squall Togoroti!" the referee shouted, Squall smiled as Granite leaped up and down happily.

"Great Job Granite! Return!" Squall returned Granite and ran back over to Coco and Bayline. "Now Coco has to battle then we can walk out of here with our new badges and walk onto the next gym!" Coco nodded as she replaced Squall’s spot with herself, Lt. Surge has already returned Voltorb.

"You kids are something I’ll admit, but you are quite unlucky to face this pokemon with a baby pokemon!" Lt. Surge laughed, as he tossed his next pokemon up and down in its ball.

"Bring it on Lt. Surge!" Coco shouted, looking at Peppermint, "Feel like battling Pepper?" Peppermint nodded and leaped onto the field. Lt. Surge threw his ball.

"Come on out Raichu!" Lt. Surge released an orange-colored mouse pokemon, with a long black tail and sharp ears, Coco got out Dexter.

"Raichu, the Mouse pokemon," Dexter beeped, "Its long tail serves as a ground to protect itself from its own high voltage power," Coco put it away and looked at Raichu.

"You know, there’s a story behind this Raichu, but that’s a story for another day! Raichu! Use Thunderbolt!" Lt. Surge ordered. Peppermint’s eyes widened at the size of the electric attack.

"You got to get Peppermint out of there!" Bayline shouted.

"Run to the left!" Coco shouted, Peppermint ran, the attack missing her by a hair.

"Use another Thunderbolt!" Lt. Surge shouted, Peppermint couldn’t dodge this time, the lightning attack flashed.

"Pika!"

To be continued

Hello everyone! It’s nice to have Moyia’s Icy Revenge off my shoulders, I thought we summer vacation would make me forget about it all. But anyhow, please make reviews! Talk about anything like ideas for my stories, what you didn’t like about it so I won’t feel stupid after making the same mistake again! 0_o

Anyway, since this might be the last time I’m going to put my word up for the summer, I’ll say this: Have a good summer everyone! (Thank goodness the cicadas are gone, I couldn’t play basketball for a week because they were everywhere and kept on landing on me! *shivers*)
