POKEMON Golden Sun Series Two: A Heart of Gold

Aspendragon

Part Thirty-Two

Four Teams and One Sacrifice

"Good morning!" Coco said cheerfully as she and the other two rolled up their sleeping bags. Coco finished first and sent Minoru and Peppermint to search for fruit and firewood.

"I can’t wait to get to Saffron, no offense, but I’m getting tired of roasted fruits." Bayline said sleepily as she released Blossom and Honey. They began to play as Squall released his pokemon. Coco did the same with the rest of her team.

"Bulba!" We’re back! Minoru was carrying the firewood in his vines and Peppermint was carrying the apples. They dropped them down and Coco made a teepee out of the wood.

"All right Firestorm, you know what to do." Coco said, Firestorm nodded and used Flamethrower, a fire began instantly. Coco cut the apples and put them in her small pot and hung it over the fire, letting it boil in the water she added to it.

"Breakfast is ready!" Coco shouted, she separated the fruit in the bowls and they chowed down. She gave Squall and Bayline some and ate the rest.

"Return everybody!" the three trainers said as they returned their pokemon and packed up, Peppermint jumped onto Coco’s hat as they began to walk on to Saffron.

"We should be at Saffron before dark tonight." Squall said, putting his map away.

"Hey! Look, there’s trainers!" Coco said with a smile. They looked ahead, a trainer was at every other tree on the trail they were taking, but there was only four. A man at the end didn’t even look like a trainer, but it was hard to tell since he was wearing black and didn’t have poke’balls attached from the outside.

"Hey! Look! More puny trainers!" The first trainer said. "Who wants to battle me first!"

"You two go on and battle, I’ll sit back and watch." Bayline said.

"Well, there’s four trainers so each of us can battle two, how about it Coco?" Squall asked, she nodded. "I’ll take the first one,"

"A one-on-one match, fine?" the boy asked.

"Sure! Go! Fang!" Squall shouted, releasing his raticate.

"Raticate!" Fang cried.

"Go! Spear!" A spearow appeared.

"A spearow," Coco said as she opened Dexter up.

"Spearow, the Temper pokemon," Dexter beeped, "This pokemon can easily be angered by any situation and attacks opponents with its sharp talons and beak."

"Fang! Use Quick Attack!" Squall shouted. Fang lunged at Spear with fast speed. Spear was hit directly.

"Hang on Spear! Use Peck Attack!" the boy shouted. Spear lunged back at Fang and pecked him in the chest.

"Raticate!" Fang growled angrily.

"Use Super Fang!" Fang gripped its teeth on Spear’s right wing, piercing it.

"Spearow!" Spear landed with a thud, with its wing pierced, it couldn’t stay in the air.

"Use Quick Attack and end this!" Fang rammed himself into Spear, it fainted.

"Darn’t, return!" the boy growled as he returned Spear to its ball. "You can move on to the next challenger." They did so, but this one was a girl.

"This will be a two-on-two battle, good?" she asked. Coco nodded.

"Then go! Oddlynn!" she released an oddish. Once again, Dexter was beeping.

"Oddish, the Odd pokemon," Dexter beeped, "It buries itself into the ground, so when others pass by, it’s leaves represent a harmless weed."

"Go! Firestorm!" Coco shouted, when Firestorm appeared, the girl shivered.

"Use Flamethrower!" Oddlyn didn’t stand a chance and fainted on the spot.

"Oh dear, return Oddlynn!" the girl said. Firestorm yawned.

"Go! Ratatta!" The purple version of a mini-rat appeared.

"Ratatta, the Rat pokemon," Dexter beeped. "It is one of the quickest pokemon and one of the easiest to catch for beginning trainers."

"I already know about ratatta!" Coco growled since Dexter beeped when she didn’t open it.

"Use another Flamethrower Firestorm," Coco said with sarcasm. Firestorm once again flamed that pokemon, the girl returned it and urged them on.

"This will be a one-on-one match!" the next trainer said, he was a boy trainer this time.

"Go! Granite!" Squall shouted, the shrew pokemon appeared.

"Go! Geo!" A geodude appeared.

"Geodude, the Boulder pokemon," Dexter beeped, Coco sweat-dropped because she never took it out of her pocket. "This pokemon is usually stepped on by hikers and attacks those who step on it due to being mistaken as a boulder."

"Granite! Use Sand Attack!" Squall ordered.

"Sand!" Granite growled as he put dirt into Geo’s eyes.

"No you don’t! Use Tackle!" the boy shouted. Geo’s eyes were bleary and it saw a bleary figure of a yellow mouse, thinking that was Granite, it went towards it.

"Run!" Coco shouted as she saw that Geo was heading towards Peppermint.

"Use Poison Sting Granite!" Granite launched several needles at Geo; it turned to its left and lunged at Granite. Granite and Geo gripped one another’s hands and were shoving one another away.

"Tackle!" the boy shouted.

"Defense Curl!" Squall shouted. Granite curled up into a ball as Geo broke the connection and rammed into the ball of yellow, it didn’t do much.

"Use Slash!" Squall shouted. Granite slashed at Geo, who nearly fainted since the slashes weakened its body.

"Tackle again!" the boy shouted.

"Finish this with Scratch!" Squall ordered, the geodude fainted with one final blow to the head.

"Sandshrew!" Granite cried happily.

"Great job! Return Granite!" Squall said as he and the other trainer returned their pokemon. They moved on to the fourth trainer.

"Another two-on-two," the next boy trainer said.

"Go! Zuzu!" a Zubat appeared.

"Go! Peppermint! Use Thundershock!" Coco cried, Zuzu was shock, but with one more hit, it would faint.

"Use Super Sonic!" The boy shouted, Peppermint was hit with the blue rays and was completely confused.

"Think Peppermint! Focus on your opponent!" Coco shouted, Peppermint seemed to be ignoring her.

"Use Bite!" The boy shouted, Zuzu bit into Peppermint’s arm, snapping her out of confusion.

"Use Thundershock again!" Coco shouted.

"Pikachuuu!" Peppermint shocked Zuzu again, it fainted.

"Great job Peppermint, now, take a break." Coco said, Peppermint ran next to her.

"Return Zuzu! Go! Rattle!" An ekans appeared.

"Ekans, the Snake Pokemon," Dexter beeped, "This pokemon swallows pidgey and spearow eggs whole,"

"Go! Moonshine!" Coco shouted.

"Gas!" Moonshine laughed at its opponent; she stuck out her tongue, infuriating the ekans.

"Use Poison Sting!" the boy shouted, the attack didn’t do much damage.

"Poison doesn’t effect Moonshine much! Use Hypnosis!" Moonshine’s eyes glowed red; Rattle swayed like a coin was hypnotizing it.

"Now use Lick!" Moonshine unrolled her tongue and licked Rattle; it shivered from being stunned.

"Come on Rattle! Wake up!" the boy pleaded.

"Now end this with a Confusion!" Coco shouted, Moonshine lifted Rattle into the air and slammed it into the ground, it fainted.

"All right, great job Moonshine, return!" Coco said, returning her ghost, the boy did the same; they soon noticed the man there was gone.

"Excuse me, but who was the man that was just here?" Coco asked.

"What are you talking about? There wasn’t anyone here, we’re a team of four that challenges anyone that comes through here." The boy said, "Anyway, the name’s Alex and these are my friends. Jack, Norica, and Harry."

"Nice to meet you, my name is Coco Tradet, and this is Peppermint,"

"Squall here,"

"Name’s Bayline."

"So you three are the Trainer Triad, so it was a good thing we were here today. Our town isn’t far and we need some real help!" Alex said.

"It’s an all-out pokemon battle-zone there man," Jack said.

"Yeah, and we could use some help to calm it down. We challenge trainers passing through often, but are defeated almost all the time, we were thrashed by a girl named Versett passing through." Norica said with disgust.

"We couldn’t ask her because she said she was on her way to Vermilion before we could even ask." Harry finished.

"Oh dear, well, I guess we can help." Coco said.

"But we have to be at Saffron by tonight Coco," Squall said.

"Well, our town is the closest rest stop you can get to Saffron from here to Vermilion. It would take just an hour to get there from our village." Norica said.

"All right, show us this problem of yours." Bayline said.

"Where is everybody?" Coco asked as they entered a small town.

"This is our town, its called Siege Town because battles were often held here five times a week, but then trainers went against each other." Alex said.

"These battles became more then just a friendly battle, they started thinking of them as war battles. So there are four teams here that put themselves against the other." Norica explained.

"One is the Team Raichu, Team Golbat, Team Ninetales, and Team Ivysaur. You can tell the difference because their pokemon mascot’s color is the same as their uniforms." Jack growled.

"And whenever they attack one another, there is some danger to the town, but we know we can’t defeat them on our lonesome." Harry finished.

"I see your problem," Coco said.

"But what can we do about it?" Bayline asked.

"Go into their faces and give them all a good scolding!" Coco shouted, "Pokemon are not to be used as weapons and I will make sure of that!! Lead me to the closest team now!!" Alex and the other three didn’t refuse.

"Team Ninetales is closest," Jack said as they stood outside a round building with a ninetales painted on the front.

"All right, we’ll stay out here while you three go inside," Alex said.

"Why won’t you go in?" Squall asked as Coco was already marching up to the doors, Bayline was trying to calm her down.

"We don’t want to be in the same room when her temper breaks out of course," Harry said cheerfully, Squall sweat-dropped.

"Who are you?" a man asked when he opened the door, he had an orangish-white uniform on.

"Lead me to your boss…now…" Coco said ‘now’ so murderously that the man didn’t even shake his head.

"Right this way ma’am," he said as he closed the door behind the three and led them through a training room for people and walked down a long hallway. Finally, they came to a large room with a large chair.

There was a woman in it with a ninetales next to her.

"These people wish to see you," the man said, she nodded and he left.

"What do you wish to speak about?" she asked with a harsh smile.

"Why do you battle?" Coco asked, Squall and Bayline decided not to speak, because Coco might bite their tongues off for interrupting her speech.

"With such a curious mind, there is no reason I shouldn’t tell, you will learn it someday anyhow." The woman said, the ninetales hissed. "I battle to earn my enemies respect and receive great power."

"That’s just plain sick and there is no excuse for such a thing!!" Coco shouted. "I thought Team Rocket was bad!! I obviously thought wrong! I suggest you stop this complete madness before someone innocent gets hurt!!" Everyone was silent due to her explosion. She seemed ready to shout some more before the woman raised her hand.

"What you say has no effect on me, why should I care about others that refuse to think my way. Be gone!" she shouted. Before Coco could object, they were shoved out. The four trainers stared down at them.

"That woman! I swear why wouldn’t she care about others!" Coco shouted, trying to contain her temper, soon she was panting. "All right, who’s next?" Alex, Norica, Jack, and Harry sweat-dropped.

"This is Team Raichu," Jack said, showing them the next building about two blocks away from Team Ninetales HQ. Coco was already at the entrance when Squall and Bayline began to walk towards it.

"What’s your business here?" a harsh voice asked from inside.

"I demand to speak to your leader!" Coco shouted, the person inside opened the door. It was a woman; she closed the door behind them and led them through a lot more hallways then when they were at the other team’s.

"Sorry, but they wish to see you sir." The woman said, bowing, then she left. She left Coco, Squall, Bayline, and Peppermint in a dark room with a similar thrown chair with a man in it; he looked to be about eighteen, a lot younger then the others. A raichu sat at this one.

"What do you wish to speak about?" the man asked, it was a little more warmer then the Ninetales boss.

"We want to know why you four are fighting against each other? And I advise you to stop before someone gets hurt!" Coco said roughly. Peppermint jumped to the ground and sparked, Raichu sparked back.

"Calm yourself Raichu," the man said, the raichu stopped sparking. "You, like few before you attempt to stop me. But once again, I am not the one you should be demanding to stop."

"Why not?" Coco asked.

"Because I am the one they ask to fight against, but what would it matter. Abandon this place so you do not get hurt due to their idiotic minds. Good-bye," Once again, they were thrown out.

"How’d it go?" Norica asked as they stood up and dusted off their clothes.

"A little better, at least he seemed a little bit more reasonable." Squall admitted.

"All right, next one!" Coco shouted, Alex nodded.

"Team Ivysaur is next," Harry said as they stood out of another HQ.

"They don’t mind being seen do they?" Bayline said.

"No, they want to show their power by adding something as much as they can." Norica growled. Coco knocked on the door, Squall and Bayline hurried up to her.

"What do you want?" a gruff voice asked.

"A chat with your boss!" Coco said rudely, her patience wearing thin. The doors opened and they walked in. It was a lot lighter in these hallways as they were led by a man to another thrown room. An ivysaur sat at its master’s feet. This was another man; he didn’t seem as warm as the raichu’s master.

"What do you want?" he asked.

"We want to know why you all are fighting against one another! It’s pathetic!" Coco shouted. Ivysaur growled.

"You have quite a tongue, but no, why should I answer your questions? When your older you’ll understand." He said with a frown.

"Don’t you dare give me that!" Coco shouted. "To use pokemon as tools of war isn’t right in any way possible!"

"Pika!" That’s right! Peppermint cried in agreement.

"You’re wasting my time, it’s worthless to talk to children! Go away!" Yet again, they found themselves on the ground outside the HQ.

"These guys are trying my patience!!" Coco roared.

"Calm down, maybe the next headquarters will give an explanation," Squall said.

"I bet they have one, but I don’t think they’ll be willing to give you it." Alex said.

"What do you mean?" Bayline asked.

"We once saw one of the Team Golbat’s members talking to a Team Raichu member, I think he said something ‘…Team Ivysaur think they’re better then you and could smash your pokemon to a pulp just by snapping their fingers…’" Jack explained.

"Do you mean?" Coco began.

"Yeah, we think Team Golbat was behind all this," Norica finished.

"Show me to this Team Golbat! And I promise I won’t be thrown out without an explanation!" Coco said, determined. Squall and Bayline nodded.

"Here it is," Harry said. The building before them was the HQ to Team Golbat; the Trainer Triad walked up to the entrance and knocked.

"Who is it?" a voice asked.

"Agents from Team Raichu," Coco said, winking at the half-startled Squall and Bayline.

"Why are you dressed like that?" the man asked as he opened the doors.

"What are you idiots? Team Ivysaur and Team Ninetales would probably attack us if we walked out in the street dressed as Team Raichu!" Squall growled.

"Are you beginners? Is that why your pikachu hasn’t evolved yet?" the man asked again as they walked inside, it was even darker then the other buildings.

"Of course, they couldn’t waste their precious stronger members out on this." Bayline snapped, the man growled and led them by using a lantern.

"Sorry sir, but we have visitors," the man said. The three walked into another thrown room; they saw a golbat hang upside-down on a ceiling above his master. Coco nearly let out a gasp. The man in the chair was Captain Creever! Squall and Bayline saw Coco’s extra angry expression and they decided to keep a good distance away this time.

"Well well, if this isn’t such a surprise. Trainer Triad…I wasn’t expecting you here. And my dear Coco, what business do you have here?" he asked with an evil smirk.

"You already know why you filthy dingbat!" Coco shouted. "Besides, what are you doing here!?!"

"Hehe, my boss wanted a little humor, so I decided to come here and put the once peaceful, pokemon-loving, justice fighters against one another. I was doing this before I was sent to get you and that other girl, but when it failed, I came back."

"You mean, they weren’t enemies till you came?" Bayline asked.

"That’s right missy," Captain Creever said. Coco, Bayline, and Squall’s eyes narrowed. Peppermint began to spark threatening.

"You…" Coco began dangerously.

"Oh no, I can’t continue talking to you. It seems its almost time for another battle, show them the door gents." Captain Creever said to a few TS ninjas, they nodded and threw them out the door. They were on their feet quickly.

"We need to find out where their going to fight and stop them!" Coco said, Squall and Bayline nodded. That’s when the other four trainers came up to them.

"You have to hurry, those three teams we just visited are marching up now! Hurry!" Norica cried as she grabbed Coco’s shirt and they ran down the street. Soon enough, they were right next to the battlefield. Team Ivysaur, Team Ninetales, and Team Raichu were staring down at one another. The seven trainers stared worriedly.

"This could be it!" Jack growled.

"They’ve been at it for at least two months, and now, they’ve been training for a whole month. This has to end it!" Harry yelled.

"If nobody stops it now, there won’t be any end." Coco said, "But, how can we end it?" Her pokemon jumped out of their poke’balls and looked at the battlefield. So did the other six pokemon.

"Yeah! The more we convince them how happy our pokemon are, then they’re just going to have to stop and make-up!" Coco said. They agreed.

"Are you ready weaklings!" The Ninetale Boss asked.

"Bring it on Morons!" Team Ivysaur roared back. Team Raichu said nothing.

"From where I stand, none of you are going to bring it on!" Coco shouted. They all stared at the seven trainers and all their pokemon.

"Stay out of this kid!" Team Ninetales Boss shouted.

"We don’t think so!" Bayline yelled.

"You should all be ashamed about what you’re doing man!" Jack shouted.

"We’ve had enough wars in the past to! We don’t need to have another!" Alex yelled.

"Wouldn’t you all like to have your families live normally? Why can’t you all forget what others said and make up?" Norica said.

"It’s none of your business!" Team Ivysaur shouted.

"Then we’ll make it our business!" Coco roared back. They went silent. "Anyone that uses or hurts a pokemon should be punished! And you fit in that category!"

"What she speaks is true," the Team Raichu’s boss walked up. "I never intended to fight any of you, why you even invaded my premises was beyond me."

"Team Golbat said you called us weaklings!" Team Ninetales Boss shouted.

"How would Team Golbat know that?" he asked, she looked startled for a minute, then surprisingly looked angry again.

"We were tricked!" she hissed.

"Of course!" Team Ivysaur began to talk among them.

"Yes, Team Golbat is no doubt, Team Shadow. I have predicted this as soon as it all started. Who else would be sly enough to convince you we were enemies," Team Raichu Boss said. "But I now think, we should forget this team stuff and work together, like in the old days." He took off his mask, and yet, Coco thought she saw him before. The other two teams did as well. People hiding in the houses began to remerge out of them, looking for their relatives.

"Let’s start over and thoroughly introduce us right to the town." He said.

"Fine, my name is Yashiro Adogonga, the retired leader of Team Ivysaur." The boss of Team Ivysaur said, he had slicked back blue hair and orange eyes.

"Name is Mary Nestte," the woman leader. "The former leader of Team Ninetales,"

"And I am," the last leader said, then it struck Coco, no wonder she saw him before! She remembered now! "Errol Tradet, the ashamed leader of Team Raichu!" Bayline and Squall blinked; Coco had an older brother.

"He’s your brother?" Bayline asked. There was no doubt, he had the same brown eyes, but had a darker shade of green hair. His raichu seemed content. The villagers ran to their family members in happiness. The trainers returned their pokemon. Alex, Norica, Jack, and Harry seemed to have found older sybalines in the teams and the Trainer Triad was happy that they could help out.

"So Coco, want to keep going-" Squall looked behind him, Coco wasn’t there. "Where’d she go?" Bayline shrugged.

I knew it was Errol! I knew it! Coco thought, running so fast through the crowd that Peppermint was losing her grip on her vest.

"Errol!" she shouted, she saw him battle in the Indigo Plateau and ever since, she never saw him again. It has been nearly four years! "Errol!"

"Hey little sis!" Errol laughed as she embraced his middle section in a death embrace. Since he was older by eight years that’s all she could reach.

"Where were you for four years?" Coco asked. Peppermint lost hold of her weak clutch and landed on the raichu. Instead of sparking, he helped her up.

"Pika!" Thank you! Peppermint said.

"Raichu," No problem, so, what’s your name again? The raichu asked.

"I never knew you had a raichu!" Coco said.

"Yeah, I found him in a dumpster outside Saffron two years ago. His name is Saffron, because of where I found. What’s wrong?" Errol looked down at his sister, she looked as if she was about to cry.

"Why haven’t you visited, or at least call?" she asked.

"Uh, well, I was…" he began, he started to look sullen. "I was threatened."

"What? By whom?" Saffron and Peppermint started to pay attention to them.

"Team Rocket threatened to harm you when you were eight," Errol said sadly.

"If you didn’t do what?" Coco asked.

"If I didn’t become the leader of this team and fight against Team Ivysaur and Ninetales." Errol answered.

"So you knew all about it the whole time?" Coco asked. She remembered Yoshiro and Mary, they traveled with Errol and all went into the Pokemon Leagues together, not once were they put against one another.

"I tried to avoid fighting at all costs, but when they scheduled the next fights, I had no choice." Errol said, "But when I saw you in the paper I knew they wouldn’t be able to keep you in the threat for long."

"Why would you think that?" Coco asked.

"Someone told me that you were becoming a trainer at last and would befriend a great Pokemon team, in my dreams. He took on the form of a golden bird, have any ideas?" Errol said with a wink. Coco felt a reassuring chill, Golden Sun!

"No clue," Coco lied.

"You need a ride to Saffron right?" Errol guessed, she nodded.

"How about I give you a ride there, you and your friends."

"Really?"

"You bet!"

"Thanks!"

"Pika!"

"Rai!"

"Oh my gosh! Look! It’s Team Golbat!" someone shouted, sure enough, people in black suits were running towards them, golbats flying over them.

"Go away!" People shouted, members of the teams shooed their families inside and got ready for battle.

"Get inside Coco," Errol said. A few members were urging Squall, Bayline, Alex, Jack, Harry, and Norica into a house.

"No!"

"You don’t realize how strong these guys are!" Errol said, "Go!"

"I’m afraid that’s too late!" A ninja ran up to them and threw shurikens!

"We have to find cover! They’re filled with poison!" Coco said as she dodged the weapons.

"EVERYONE! GET INSIDE SOMEWHERE!" Errol shouted, his whole team knew better then to object their leader, even if he wasn’t anymore, many other members did listen as well and ran inside their homes. Only Mary, Yashiro, Errol, and Coco remained outside.

"Go inside!" They shouted at her.

"I have a bone to pick with them as well thank you very much!" Coco said back.

"You are so stubborn!" Errol growled as he ran out of the way of another shuriken. "Don’t let those things hit you!" Yashiro and Mary dodged them.

"Use Thunderbolt Saffron!" Errol ordered.

"Use Thundershock Pepper!" Coco shouted.

"Raichuuuu!"

"Pikachuuu!" The two mice flared their attacks at the ninjas, many fainted.

"How dare you interfere!" a ninja launched another shuriken at Coco from behind, she didn’t see it.

"Hey!" Coco cried as Errol pushed her to the side. A loud piercing noise split the battling silence, a victim was hit. The sirens of police called by one of the villagers roared into the village. The rest of Team Shadow that hadn’t fainted fled. Mary, Yashiro, and Coco were over Errol’s still body.

To be continued
