Part Thirty-Four

What Pokemon Do You Wanna Be?

The morning breeze awoke the three sleeping trainers; the sun’s body was just then peering over a faraway mountainside. Coco sat up and rubbed her eyes, Peppermint scratched her ears, Squall crawled out of his sleeping bag muttering something about ‘We’ll be there by tonight…’ and Bayline refused to move.

"Bayline, we need to get to Celadon for that medicine, remember?" Coco asked her friend, she cursed quietly and obeyed. Bayline was just sitting up till a loud noise cut through the air.

"What was that?" Coco asked.

"It sound like a horn," Squall said as he finished rolling up his sleeping bag.

"Let’s go check it out, maybe there’s a festival going on or something," Coco said, beaming. Bayline yawned and quickly finished packing up with Coco and Squall.

The Trainer Triad ran towards the horn’s constant blows till other instruments joined in. People were shouting and pokemon cries were heard. They hurried out of the woods and found themselves on a dirt trail.

"Tell me Squall, was this the trail we have been looking for the past few hours last night?" Bayline asked, Squall looked at his map.

"It seems so," Squall said chuckling. While Bayline mumbled ‘Idiot…’

"Oh wow! Look! It’s not a festival! It’s a parade!" Coco shouted, pointing to their left. Squall, Bayline, and a sleepy Peppermint looked down the trail. Sure enough, a rider on a rapidash was walking down the trail proudly with pokemon floats following behind them. The song ‘Pokerap’ was erupting from the third floats with a band of people playing instruments from horns to tubas. On many of the floats were dancing and waving pokemon. People were in groups on the side of the trail crying cheerfully as they passed.

"Hello one and all! I am Rapheal Rodrhett! The leader of this year’s Travelin’ Poke’Parade! Right now we are heading into Celadon for out third act of this year!" the rider announced as he saluted. Rapheal wore a blue tuxedo with no flower with boots and a short, combed hairstyle; he had a London accent and had green eyes. The Trainer Triad clapped along with the rest of the audience.

"I wonder if they’ll let us come with them to Celadon?" Coco wondered aloud as Rapheal Rodrhett came closer.

"Fat chance, why would they want three, filthy trainers come with them-" Bayline began as Rapheal spotted them and shouted.

"Do my eyes deceive me! Why yes! It’s the infamous Trainer Triad!" Rapheal announced. The Trainer Triad looked up and saw the rapidash and Rapheal staring at them.

"Nice to meet you sir!" Coco greeted back happily.

"Pika pi!" Peppermint greeted.

"The pleasure’s all mine, but what are such beings as yourselves traveling without style may I ask?" he asked.

"Oh! Well, we’re on our way to Celadon and decided to a shortcut through the woods." Squall answered.

"How about long-cut Squall," Bayline corrected, Rapheal laughed.

"Onto Celadon City huh? Well, jump aboard whichever float you wish and I assure you we’ll be in Celadon City by six." Rapheal said.

"Wow! You mean it?" Coco asked, all the floats stood behind Rapheal, all the drivers were looking around wondering why they stopped.

"Of course, if you tell the driver that I told you were aloud to get on, they’ll let you. But hurry, we can’t stop too long!" Rapheal said cheerfully as he squeezed the rapidash'’ side and they began walking again. Coco looked at the floats and saw a float with a large poke’ball on it, one with a jigglypuff, eevee, pikachu, raticate, and many more.

"Let’s get on the cake one!" Bayline suggested, the float with four layers began to pass with a staircase leading up to the top where a girl no older than thirteen with a blue duck next to her waving.

The Trainer Triad hopped onto the one with a cake and told the driver who they were and Coco crept up onto the cake’s top with Bayline and Squall were too busy waving to the people.

"Hello!" Coco greeted cheerfully. The girl looked down; she had orange hair up in a high ponytail with curls and fluffy bangs. She had brown eyes unlike the pokemon next to her and wore what looked like a pink princess’s dress.

"Hello," she said a bit more calmly. "Who are you?"

"My name is Coco Tradet from Pallet, and this is Peppermint, who are you?" Coco asked. Peppermint hopped off her shoulder as she stood up and walked over to the duck pokemon.

"My name is Serena, and this is my golduck, Alastor." She answered.

"Golduck, the Duck Pokemon," Dexter said from her pocket, Serena eyes her.

"Don’t mind it," Coco mumbled as Dexter continued.

"Often seen swimming elegantly by lake shores. It is often mistaken for the Japanese monster, Kappa." Dexter finished.

"Would you mind if I stayed up here with you?" Coco asked.

"Not one bit, just wave," Serena said as she smiled and began waving again, Coco waved both arms with a broad smile.

"Pika pika!" Peppermint cried as she waved. Alastor was just standing next to Serena and Peppermint looking bored.

While waving, Coco began noticing several reporters and cameramen and began to blush.

"You’re the leader of the Trainer Triad right?" Serena asked.

"Leader?"

"Well, you are the one that thought of the name right?" she asked, Coco nodded.

"Well, than you’re the leader." Serena said firmly as she continued to wave with a smile. Coco sweat-dropped.

Me, a leader? Coco wondered as she continued to wave.

"I have an idea, after we get to Celadon, will you battle me?" Serena asked, "Since you’re part of the Trainer Triad and all, I wanted to see how strong Alastor is compared to one of your pokemon."

"Sure, but we have to get back to Saffron first to drop off some medicine for my brother, he’s really ill." Coco said.

"No way, we’re heading to Saffron after Celadon," Serena said, flabbergasted.

"That’s cool! And sure, I’ll take you any time!" Coco said.

"Even at midnight?"

"No way…"

It was five by the time people stopped appearing on the side of the roads when Squall and Bayline joined Coco, Serena, Alastor, and Peppermint on top of the cake float.

"These are my friends, Bayline Silverson and Squall Togoroti," Coco introduced.

"Nice to meet you, my name is Serena, and this is Alastor," Serena said, than pointing at the golduck who looked as bored as ever.

"Bored?" Bayline asked the blue duck, he didn’t even look at her before yawning.

"Don’t blame you!" Bayline whined as she and the rest of them sat down, since it was still mid January, it was still chilly, but the sun began to set earlier in the day, so it was beginning to sink to the ground now.

"Hey! Serena! We all are almost at Celadon, ya better get ready up there!" the driver, Nicholas, shouted, with the Irish accent and cute looks Bayline instantly fell for him when Coco said that they were riding on their float and has been talking to him nonstop when they got on.

"Awesome, but we’ll be leaving Celadon tomorrow at four in the afternoon, so be there by then okay?" Serena said with a wink in Coco’s direction.

"All right," Coco said back. Squall and Bayline looked at each other, than at Peppermint as if expecting explanations from her in English.

"Pikachu!" Don’t look at me! Peppermint cried.

"Oh great!" Nicholas cried as a pidgey with a white handkerchief around its neck flew away from his carrying several letters and landed on the next float’s driver.

"We communicate to each other by sending letters by pidgey to one float to the other," Serena explained to the puzzled expressions of the Trainer Triad. "W hat is it Nicholas?"

"It’s Mary! She came down with a cold and needs a replacement!" Nicholas shouted as he waved the letter like a flag.

"Who’s Mary?" Squall asked.

"She’s the singer of our front float, you know, the one with the stage and pokemon background?" Serena explained, "And our replacement didn’t show up since he had to go to Lavender Town to pay his respects to the Pokemon Tower,"

"Hmm…" Coco mumbled.

Great…she’s thinking, I bet my eevee that we’re going to be part of this upcoming plan… Bayline and Squall thought in solemn silence.

"We’ll sing!" Coco said to Serena.

Knew it!

"Wow, really?" Serena asked, Coco nodded.

"Our pokemon can help!" Coco suggested. "After all! We’re famous!" she said with a wink, Bayline and Squall sighed as Peppermint cheered.

"All righty everyone, we are nearing Celadon, I hope you’re almost ready," Rapheal shouted among the floats. Coco, Bayline, and Squall were on the stage now with their pokemon out.

"All right, remember the plan, ‘kay?" Coco said cheerfully with Peppermint on her head, Bayline stomachs were doing somersaults and Squall’s heart was beating 3000 times a second. The pokemon were reacting much like their own trainers, except pokemon like Firestorm, Fang, and Minoru. "Is that Celadon?" Coco asked Rapheal as she spotted lights on in the far edge of the woods. It was five forty nine so it was getting quite dark, the moon and stars were already glittering proudly up in the sky.

"Yep! Good ol’ Celadon, but I can’t a tell ya how grateful I am for your services, you truly live up to your reputation Trainer Triad," Rapheal said before cantering back ahead of them then went at a proud trot and Rapheal got ready to announce their arrival.

"Are you sure about this Coco?" Bayline asked nervously.

"Positive!" Coco responded.

"’Course," Squall mumbled. Fruity began to bounce and once went backwards and put her head through her roots and jumped high enough for her legs spin backwards to their original position. Coco squinted her eyes to see several people lined on the sides of the streets and began feeling nervous horribly.

"Everyone re-remembers their lines r-right?" Coco asked.

"You aren’t nervous are you Coco?" Bayline asked with a smirk. Coco shook her head fiercely

"Hello citizens of Celadon! I am here to represent the Travelin’ Poke’Parade and I am proud to announce the Trainer Triad will be hosting an entertainment for this evening as a replacement for our former singer! Please welcome! The Trainer Triad and the rest of our fabulous floats and parade staff!" Rapheal announced as he marched about forty meters ahead of the first float. The people roared and clapped with excitement as the music started. Coco smiled along with Bayline and Squall whom all had their hearts racing up and down their throats and ribs.

"You all wanna be a pokemon?" Coco started as the lights on the stage flicked on, the rest of the floats necessary lights did as well. The audience clapped as they passed.

"Than whom would you wanna be in the one hundred and fifty one?" Bayline shouted back, all three of them had cordless microphones and the pokemon began to feel awkward.

"Would you like to be a pikachu who’s electrical attacks will get you through!" Squall said as Peppermint sparked and released tiny bolts that bounced around the stage before vanishing, the people clapped.

"Or maybe a clefairy whom will make your day merry!" Bayline shouted as Blossom used Metronome, bringing a Petal Dance.

"But how about a growlithe who will evolve into a great canine myth?" Coco sang, as Torch ran around her and barked and than stopped on all four paws and exhaled a mighty Ember.

"But what pokemon do you wanna be?" the three sang as Peppermint, Blossom, and Torch danced behind them. "A water? A fire? Or maybe something icier? But we know what we wanna be! Now it’s time for you to decide whom you will be!"

"Pika!"

"Growl!"

"Clefairy!"

"A bald-tailed pokemon named Raticate whom will never be late!" Squall shouted as Fang chopped its jaws and cried out its name.

"How about a charmeleon with a mind of a comedian?" Coco sang receiving a glare from Friestorm, but she still leaned back on her tail then launched forward with a strong Flamethrower.

"Or a cute eevee with something that’ll never make you feel uneasy!" Bayline cried, as the three jumped back together. Her and Squall back to back as Coco leaned against them form the front. Fang, Firestorm, and Honey joined the other three pokemon.

"But what pokemon do you wanna be?" the three repeated, "Something out of the blue? Who’s stronger than two? Or one that’ll jump out and say boo! We know what we wanna be! So are you sure enough to stand and answer who?"

"Pika!"

"Growl!"

"Clefariy!"

"Raticate!"

"Char!"

"Eevee!"

"A great sandshrew is a wonderful part of a powerful crew!" Squall shouted as rolled up into a ball and rolled around jumping up and down around Squall.

"A bulbasaur will hit and be hit till it can take no more!" Coco cried. Minoru launched sharp Razor leaves outward towards the sky.

"And the gorgeous butterfree can awe all those who see each dazzling wing!" Bayline sang as they began another chorus with three more pokemon. Jenta’s shiny body enthralled the audience as some powder was released from her wigs.

"There’s a few more pokemon yet to be named! Have you decided what pokemon you wanna be for today?" they sang. "It’s hard to decide! But if that’s true to all that try, that’ll prove your wondrous heart for not only the powerful, but those all who aren’t named at all! So what pokemon do you wanna be? Cause we know whom we wanna be!"

"Pika!"

"Growl!"

"Clefairy!"

"Raticate!"

"Char!"

"Eevee!"

"Shrew!"

"Bulba!"

"Befree!"

"Bellsprout is a pokemon who knows every route!" Squall sang as Fruity did flips.

"Ghastly is nothing but of purple gas, but it’s still just as haughty!" Coco cried.

"But they’re all great!" Bayline shouted.

"In their own way!" Squall and Coco sang in unison.

"Just like you and me! And the day-to-be!" the three cried. "They’re all friends of a friend in a friend to a friend through the thick and thin! But that’s how we know what pokemon we wanna be! But did you decide whom you wish to be become? No?" They were nearing the end of the song and knew they had to repeat it when they were done till the parade came to the end of it’s route in Celadon.

"We all have our favorites!" Coco shouted.

"We all place bets on the ones we think best!" Bayline added.

"But there’s always those that are like the rest!" Squall shouted.

"Pika!"

"Growl!"

"Clefairy!"

"But those who think it over and over and over will come to decide!" Bayline and Coco shouted in unison.

"There’s no right or wrong answer! So choose whenever you please or maybe not at all!" Squall added.

"Raticate!"

"Char!"

"Eevee!"

"But do you wanna know what we wish?" Coco asked.

"Do you really wanna know?" Bayline asked more quietly.

"Cause our answer is!" Squall said much quieter.

"Shrew!"

"Bulba!"

"Befree!"

"We…" they trailed off together, the audience quieted down a little.

"Gas!"

"" the Trainer Triad and the pokemon began to crouch lower and lower.

"Bell!"

"DON’T KNOW!" they cried as they all jumped high with the pokemon crying out their names. The people screamed and clapped as streamers and confetti ran through the air as the Trainer Triad began repeating the song, this time with more enthusiasm.

"Thank ya’ll so much!" Rapheal cried, it was midnight and the Trainer Triad was just dropped off by the parade and were driving away to set up camp before leaving tomorrow night.

"No problem, but we should thank you for giving us so much fun!" Coco shouted although all of them and including their pokemon were wiped out.

"Pleasures all mine, I hope you are able to ride back to Saffron tomorrow, don’t forget!" Rapheal said as he mounted his rapidash and with one last wave they cantered off after the tired parade.

The Trainer Triad walked into the Pokemon Center, so tired that they were about to fall asleep walking.
