Inside a sound - proof room, there is a meeting going on with all top secret agents. Dressed in a black trenchcoat below their hips, a black t-shirt, and black leather pants, all agents are listening to the Chief.
"Agents, you are assigned on a mission. Every file is different." He started passing out folders of assignments. A red head opened hers and carefully skimmed her folder. She was one of the best top secret agents. So were many others. She knew all of them, except for one guy. They all had code names, and hers was Rain. Her real name was Misty and she loved the rain so she called herself Rain. There were different names too. There was Sky, Cloud, Tide, Sun, Fire, Ice, Forest, Thunder, Lightning, and Snow. But there was this one guy that seemed so familiar.... She didn't know his name and it was against the code to ask another agent what their code name was. The chief would tell you or they would just introduce themselves to you. She knew all the other agents' name because they had introduced themselves to her. Actually, they wanted to ask her out. She wondered what his name was. She thought he was cute. She started staring into space.
"Rain!" She jumped out of her trance and looked at the chief who seemed angry. He continued explaining.
"Although you have an individual mission, two folders are the same. How can you tell? Well, if you look at the front of your folder, it will say 'Shared'." All agents flipped to the front of the folder and read what it said. Rain looked at hers.
<Shared... Wonder who I share it with?> A black haired man was sitting across a red head. He saw the cover of her folder and noticed that it was the same as his.
"Guess your sharing with me." Rain looked up from her folder and saw that the agent she thought was cute was talking to someone.
"Are you talking to me?" He nodded.
<Wow, finally, I get to share a mission with a cute guy...> She stopped her thoughts as the chief motioned her to come over with the dark haired man. They walked up together. The chief cleared his throat.
"I assume you two are sharing a mission together?" They both nodded.
"Well this mission is very complicated... are you two sure you can do this?" They faced each other. Rain looked into those chocolate colored eyes.
<They look so familiar... Could he be....?>
"I think I'm capable of doing it. How about you Agent Rain?" Rain broke out of her trance.
"I'm sorry, I don't think you know me. I'm Agent Wind." He put his hand out. Misty took it in her hand and shook it. He gave her a small smile as she returned it.
"I think I can do it, sir." Rain turned to the chief.
"Good, now that we're all acquainted, you may start your mission..." They both turned to leave just as the chief said,
"As soon as you get your new gear..."
They turned back to the chief. A smile came upon both of their faces. Every agent wanted new gear. Every two and a half years, they would get new gear. It wasn't that bad after that long but they wanted to have fairly new gear so it would work when they really needed it.
"All right agents! Quiet down! You will start your mission as soon as you can. Get ready!" The chief faced the two agents.
"Follow me." They followed the chief.
In the hallways, the floor was covered in luxurious carpet, wallpaper with various flowers bordering the top and bottom. Dim lights cascaded the hallways as they walked to the room where they were to receive their new gear. Wind was looking around the hall. Rain looked at Wind.
<He looks so familiar... But who could he be??> Wind faced Rain as she turned away. He looked at her facial features and the way she walked. Her eyes mesmerized him. He recognized this feeling. But he wasn't sure where he got it from.
<Those eyes look so familiar... Could she be....??> They arrived at the room. The chief slid his card thru the slot and entered the code. The door slid open a little. He pushed the door open and the room was pure white with a dim glow in the back of the walls. He closed the door behind him. He sat down at a long rectangular table.
"Take a seat." Wind and Rain sat down a seat away from each other.
"Now, since you two are going on a complex mission together, you will need some tracking devices so you can contact each other in any case. You will also have new weapons." He walked over to the wall and enter a code on the wall. It flipped over to the other side and many weapons were in view.
"Take your pick." They both looked at the chief in amazement. They got up and went to the selection of weapons. There were so many to choose from.
CMP150, AR34, DY357-LX, RC-P120, shotguns, sniper rifles, crossbows, tranquilizers, grenades, proximity mines, remote mines, and timed mines. The chief opened up another wall with devices on it.
"I figure you'll need this...." Both agents looked more surprised at how much equipment they were going to get.
Spy cameras, cloaking devices, data uplink, disguises, door decoder, ECM mine, IR scanner, night vision, R-tracker, and X-ray scanner.
"The CMP150 is a good gun" The chief started. "Primary: Rapid fire, secondary: follow lock- on, magazine capacity: 32, average fire rate: 900 r.p.m. AR34's primary: burst fire, secondary: use scope, magazine capacity: 30, average fire rate: 750 r.p.m. DY357-LX's primary: single shot, secondary: pistol whip, magazine capacity: 6. RC-P120 primary: rapid fire, secondary: cloak, magazine capacity: 120, average fire rate: 1,100 r.p.m. You know about the rest, right?" Both agents nodded.
"Good. Now the devices." He walked over the other wall. He pointed to the spy camera.
"A tiny remote camera for stealthy exploration. Equipped for spectroscopic holography. Opens doors by projecting a human-sized pulse of heat. It's not invisible so enemies may spot it. Be careful when entering an inhabited area." He pointed to the cloaking device.
"Disrupts the visible spectrum of light around the wearer, creating an almost perfect chameleonlike effect. This field is disrupted when the wearer fires. Don't waste the it when there is no one around to observe you. Avoid firing unless you absolutely necessary and until you are assured of the success of your attack." Then he pointed to the data uplink.
"This provides a link from the field agent to the Institute hackers back in HQ, who can then download data or crack electronic locks remotely. Always keep the object in view when using the data uplink, and stay close to prevent the connection from being severed." He took out a disguise and held it up.
"Allay suspicion by the use of a disguise. But always be alert for the possibility of being unmasked by a quick-witted enemy. The disguise is not just the clothing. It is the manner of the person wearing it. Don't behave out of character for the person you are trying to be." He went over to the door decoder.
"Stand-alone-code-breaking device. Attaches to the control panel and sifts through the possible combinations until the lock is opened." He picked up an ECM Mine.
"Emits a constantly shifting signal designed to jam any electronic communications device. It must be placed on the object to be effective. Make sure you throw the mine so that it will land in the correct place by getting as close as you can to the target." They walked over the IR Scanner.
"This translates thermal data into visible images. Can be used in darkness and will also reveal anomalies such as hidden doors and weak wall sections. The visor narrows your peripheral vision, which can cause problems in combat. Be sure of your situation before you use it." He pointed to the night vision.
Enhances any visible light to produce an image of the surrounding area. Also highlights life forms. Overloads in normal light conditions, 'whiting out' the display. It's useful in combat, but can cause problems when overloading. Try to anticipate such situations and react before the enemy does." He then picked up an R-tracker.
"Locates a particular object in the HUD radar map. Show the relative bearing and distance. The R-tracker only indicates direction and relative height; it doesn't display a map guiding you to the target. Pay attention to your surroundings, and be prepared to explore." He picked up an X-ray scanner.
"It's used to look through solid walls and objects. Can see things that the night vision and the IR scanner cannot. So it's good to have these things. The x-ray scanner can't see things that are right up in your face. If you find that you can't see something that should be there, try backing up a few steps." He walked away from the wall and took a seat at the table again.
"I suggest you guys should pick now..."
