The Rips of Time

Chapter 2

"Kristy..."

"Who's there?!?" She tried to turn her head, but she couldn't. Her whole body was paralyzed in one position.

"It is I."

"Who are you?"

"You must help us..."

"Huh?"

"From him..."

"From who?!?"

"From him..."

"Who are you?!?"

"All you need to know is that I am of Pokemon descent. I will meet with you when necessary..."

"I can't hear you! Where are you?!?"

The voice trailed off and Kristy continued to stare into open space.

The transporter vibrated and coughed.

"Bill! Your transporter is malfunctioning!!"

"Oh, course not! Do you doubt me, Kom?"

The transporter sputtered and shook. It gasped and wheezed. Then Kristy appeared, pale with fright.

"What in tarnation is going on?!?" She looked around. "Oh, hi, Kom and Professor Birch. Hi, Mr. Old Man."

"Kristy! You must respect Bill!" exclaimed Birch.

"Oh, sorry! I didn't know! But you look so old! I thought you had green hair! Have you gone through that much stress?!?"

"It is alright. You didn't know. I bring you back here because I have a problem that I need both of you help me with."

"Umm, what can I do?" Kristy continued to sit inside of the transporter with her legs extended out.

"For now I am not sure. You can stay here a while as I continue with my work and my search."

"What search? What are you talking about? What do you need me for? And can I go back to my mom and tell her what's going on?"

"I fear we can not take you back to your parents. We can use the 'Chaos Mechanism', but it would mess things up."

"Then how did you bring me here? Can't you take me back with the same thing?!?"

"I apologize for this inconvenience. The structure of the code to bring you here is very simple, but it would take too much time to figure out the code to take you back. We are racing against time. For now you have to stay here. And you don't know of the reason for your attendance yet, do you?"

"Umm, yes, I mean, no, I mean, uhh..." Kristy bit her lip and stood up. "What are you trying to say?"

Kom told her about how the design of 'Chaos Mechanism' was too complicated for even Bill himself.

"So?"

"Well, it is a known fact that Bill is the smartest person there is in the Pokemon World."

"I thought Professor Birch did it."

"No, it was not I. The main design was created by a man who looked much like a younger version of Bill." Birch scratched his neck and tilted his head.

"Are you sure? I thought Horace was behind it all."

"No, he is the manager. Well, actually, from what I remember, Horace was the leader, until he came. Then he was the leader and Horace became the manager that kept everyone in shape."

"Why didn't you tell anyone about this?" Kristy frowned.

Birch looked at the floor. "I didn't think much about it until Bill came over and asked. As I've said, I can barely remember, it's been months.

"So he's loose somewhere? I thought they were all caught."

"It seems that all the henchmens were caught, but he himself had managed to escape."

"Why didn't you say anything about that at first? Whay do you bring it out now, Professor Birch?" Kom stared at Birch and it made him feel uneasy.

"I didn't think much about it till this young lady brought it up." He squirmed a little.

"So now what do I do?!?" Kristy stomped her foot and scowled. "It's obvious that that man is Bill from the future. I remember Kom saying something about you working on your time machine."

"And that he looks younger because of the youth pills." continued Kom.

"But the question is why I would do something like that." Bill stroked his beard.

"Hold on, how can you all come up with the same proposition? It seems too logical to actually be true." Birch was trying to push them down because he felt stupid for not seeing the obvious.

"He's right. I don't know what to expect."

"Do you agree with him?!?" asked both Kom and Kristy at the same time. Noticing this, they blushed.

"Yes. But for now, you both have to train. I believe your Pokemon will be a big help. And so as your knowledge of 'Earth'."

"Where is my Pokemon??" Thinking of it made her giddy. "I can't wait to see them again!!"

"If you'll follow me, I'll take you to the synthetic habitat of all the Pokemon I keep." Professor Birch motioned them towards a door.

"Yes. You leave me here. I would like to study this 'Chaos Mechanism' in detail."

"One more question, where is my stuff? My bag of balls and books and stuff."

"It's at my grandparents ranch. I'll take you there afterwards."

"Woah..." Kristy and Kom gaped.

"Who were your Pokemon again?"

Kristy's mouth went dry. "Smeargle, Sunkern, and Ditto..."

Professor Birch called onto the speaker. "Smeargle, Sunkern, and Ditto. Please meet with me at the Western Exit. I have a surprise for you."

"It's hard to believe this is all underground..." Kristy'd voice trailed off as she turned her head back and forth.

"The only way we know is because we can see the ceiling. But it seems perfect for Pokemon to live here! I just don't see any..." Kom, too, looked around.

Birch's face reddened. "Well, uh, this is sort of new and the only Pokemon I have here are those mistreated Pokemon and those of Kristy."

"What mistreated Pokemon?"

"The one's that those criminals used experiments on to control."

"Oh, yeah...Tracer! Sunkern! Ditto!!" She squealed and ran up to them. "I've missed you!!" She hugged them all.

"Smeargle!!"

"Kern, Sun!"

"Ditto..."

She sighed. "I wish I had my translator with me. Then I would know what you were saying." She picked up Ditto and Sunkern. "You can walk, can't you, Tracer?" He nodded. "That's good. Because we're going to be going over to Kom's ranch to pick up my stuff. You remember, it don't you, Tracer?" He nodded again.

"Are you ready to go, Kristy?"

"Yeah."

"We can ride Stantler and Ponyta. They don't mind."

"Oh, ok. That would be nice. Do you by any chance have your translator with you?"

"No, I'm sorry."

"Darn..."

"Koko!!" Sarah squealed and pinched Kom's cheeks. Sarah's brooch gleamed under the sun and shot at Kristy's eye.

"Does she always do this to you?" Kristy whispered to Kom.

"Yes, even if I've only left for a minute, she still does it." He whispered back.

"Is it because she wants to? Or is it because she forgot she did?" Kristy whispered back.

"Because she wants to." He whispered back again.

"Abe!! Koko's back!!!"

Abe walked out and asked. "What?!?"

"I said 'Koko's back!!!'"

"I know that! But what did you say before that?!?"

"That's what I said!!!"

"What?!?"

This was familiar to Kom and Kristy so they went inside and left Sarah and Abe shrieking at each other.

"So...does Abe do that because he's forgetful?"

"Yup." Kom poured Kristy a glass of milk. "You remember how it was from last time, don't you? It'll be pretty much the same."

"Oh, ok." Kristy sipped her milk and Kom pulled up a chair and sat next to her. Kristy's Pokemon were eating Blueberry Pie on the floor.

Finally, Sarah and Abe was back in the house and they were all chatting.

"It's nice to see you back, Kristy. How long has it been, five months?"

"What?!?" Abe, of course.

"Around there. I thought it was seven months."

"What?!?" Abe, of course.

"Has it been that long already??" She poured somemore milk into Kristy's cup.

"What?!?" Abe, of course.

"Yea, but it's great to be back. I'm just sort of mad that I didn't get a chance to tell my parents what happend. My mom probably knows, because I was talking with her about it and suddenly I was here."

"What?!?" Abe, of course.

"Oh, you, poor dear."

"What?!?" Abe, of course.

"That reminds me..."

"What?!?" Abe, of course.

"What is it?" This time it was Kom who asked Kristy something.

"What?!?" Abe, of course.

"Well, on my way here, I heard a faint voice. It told me to help 'us' from 'him' and that he was a Pokemon."

"What?!?" This time it was both Kom and Abe. Kristy laughed at this which started Abe on his evil lighthouse tales.

"You is telling them about me lighthouse when I was a lad!!!" They all ignored this and all Abe said was gibberish to them. At least he was too preoccupied with telling his story to butt in with an occasional 'What?!?' or even notice that no one was paying attention.

"You mean you actually met a Pokemon on your way here? You should have automatically come here! That meeting was not expected. It shouldn't even have happend! That must have been a very strong Pokemon!" It surprised Kristy that Kom was so shocked about this.

"So?? They...I mean...he was asking for help. He said he would meet me later on. Plus all I heard was it's voice. I was stuck in a certain position so I couldn't see him."

"Which Pokemon could it be?" Kom pondered for a moment.

"What? What's there not to understand? It's simple enough."

"We don't know if we should trust it or not."

"We don't know if we should trust Bill either."

"What are talking about?!? You don't know Bill! He wouldn't do it!!"

"You're right! I don't know Bill, but is it just me, or does it seem like Bill has a huge part in this? The time machine, the youth pills, the leader...it all links!"

Kom frowned. "It couldn't possibly be that simple!!"

"It probably isn't, but that's probably what it's basically about!!!"

Kom frowned and bit his lip till it bled.

"Koko!! You're bleeding!!" Sarah immediately got up and wiped it with a towel.

"I'm fine, Grandmama."

"I'm sorry, Kom."

"I'm sorry, too, Kristy." They both sighed.

"So...what do we do now to kill time??" Kristy looked up and smiled.

"First we need to get you your stuff. You need a Pokedex, don't you?"

"Yea, I guess."

"Ok, I'll go get your stuff and I guess we'll need to go back to Professor Birch's Lab."

"Ok."

Kristy's bag swas slung onto her shoulder and it was very comforting.

"Are you ready, Kristy?"

"Hold on, where's my belt?"

"Look in your bag."

"Oh, found it." She tied it around her waist and called her Pokemon back to their pokeballs.

Kom and Kristy got on Ponyta and galloped to Professor Birch's Lab. Although the sun was setting, they went at a leisure pace.

"Professor Birch! Bill!" Kom got off Ponyta and looked inside. When he came back out, his face was pale. "Kristy, come quick!!"

She ran in with him and was horrified at the sight.

Professor Birch was unconcious on the floor with only a few minor bruises. Bill's head was lying on the wall. Blood slowly trickled from the side of his forehead and his glasses were all bent and cracked. The 'Chaos Mechanism' was utterly destroyed.
