The Rips of Time

Chapter 3

"Oh, my god!" Kristy covered her mouth with her hands and just stood there.

"Call the ambulance, hurry!" Kom immediately started to apply pressure to Bill's head to stop the bleeding.

Kristy immediately ran to the vid phone and just stood there. "Kom! What's the number?!?"

"911!!!"

"So it's the same as at home..." she mumbled to herself and dialed the phone. Ablu haired lady with a mike attached to her ear appeared.

"Would you like to speak with the hospital or the police?"

"Ummm...both!"

The lady frowned. "Aren't you a little too old to be playing games?"

"No!! I'm serious!! Bill is unconcious and blood is spurting from his head!!"

The lady frowned. "Stop playing with the phone. You might tie up the line when there is a real emergency. At least make up a decent story. Bill is bleeding to death. Yeah, right!" The lady's image faded out.

Kristy was paralyzed. She dialed the number again and the lady came up again. "Would you like to speak...you again?!?"

"Oh, please, Bill is dying here! I swear I'm not lying! I'm not playing! Just connect my line to the hospital! Please!!"

The lady frowned. "If I find you are playing games, I'll have you arrested and I won't give a hoot if you're minor." Her image faded out and was replaced by a doctor. He looked familiar.

He stared at Kristy and she at him.

"Is it you, Kristy? Are you back?"

"You remember me!!"

"Of course, I do! What seems to be the problem?"

"Oh, it's terrible! Bill is bleeding to death and that stupid lady wouldn't transfer my line to you for a while because she thought I was playing and I wasn't and-"

"Hold on a minute. Calm down! I'm coming over! Are there any wounded Pokemon as well?"

"No, just Bill. Wait...you believe me?!?"

"I still remember you from last time. I believe you. Where are you?"

"We're at Professor Birch's Lab."

"Thank you. So you say there aren't any wounded Pokemon? Nuts, that means Nurse Joy won't be coming over. Ok, I'm coming over. Every second counts. Hang in there." The doctor's face faded away. Kristy immediately ran back into the room to see if there was anything she could help with.

"Look for some bandaids or pieces of cloth." Kom continued to push on Bill's head.

"How?!? There are just books and metal here!!" Kristy turned her head and looked at her dress. She ripped it and handed it to Kom. He tied it to Bill's head. It stopped the bleeding and he proceeded to wake up Professor Birch. He didn't stir.

"Is there anything I can do to help?" Kristy tried to apply pressure on Bill's head the way she saw Kom do it.

"Don't touch it. We don't have anything to do left, except to wait. Or we could try to wake up Professor Birch."

"Ok, let's slap him!"

"No!!"

"Ok, how about we douse him in water."

"I guess that'll work. Totodile!" He threw one of his Pokeballs and it landed on the floor with a thud.

"Totodile!"

"Totodile! Sprinkle a light Water Gun on Professor Birch!"

Totodile watered Birch's face, but he still didn't move. It was staring to get serious.

"This isn't a good sign. Feel his pulse or see if he's breathing." recommended Kristy.

Kom raised his fingers to Birch's nose and was relieved to find Birch to be breathing. "He's still breathing."

"But why isn't he waking up? This is not a good sign. Maybe we should be worried about Professor Birch more than Bill."

"Or maybe we shouldn't worry at all and maybe we should be helping with finding a solution!" he snapped.

They were both kneeling doen and Kristy was silent.

"I'm sorry...Kristy."

"It's ok." Her whisper was barely audible.

For the next ten minutes, they sat on the floor silently. Finally, the ambulance arrived.

"Holy Magikarp!" The doctor saw the sparks and he saw both Bill and Professor Birch lying on the floor. He saw the cloth wrapped around Bill's head and grunted. "You did well."

The men packed Bill and Birch into the ambulance and drove off. Kom and Kristy chose not to follow. Instead, they went back to Kom's Ranch.

"Koko!!" Sarah shrieked and hugged Kom tight.

"Glad -huff- to see -huff- you, too, Grandmama!"

"Abe! Koko's back!!"

Abe walked out and cupped his hand to his ear and asked. "What's that?"

"Koko's back!!!"

Both Kristy and Kom were tired and not in the mood so they went inside and slammed the door. Abe nearly jumped at this so it must have been pretty loud if he was half deaf.

Inside, Sarah turned on the tv and knitted.

"This just in, sources tell me that Bill is lying in the hospital severely wounded at this moment. As you can see, here in the lighthouse, his works are completely destroyed and most of his paperwork was burnt. Yet the question is, why are the a few untouched things? The time machine had been left alone, yet the blueprints for it were stolen. The paperwork on the youth pills are left alone. This baffling mystery remains on hand and will Bill wake up and solve this unspeakable crime? This is Rachel Mac signing off."

"Oh, dear! Do you know about this, Kom? Who would do such a thing?"

"What?!?" Abe, of course.

"Actually yes. It was Kristy and I who found Bill in his current state."

"What?!?" Abe.

"Oh!"

"What?!?" Abe.

"Time to go to bed!!!" Sarah shrieked into Abe's ears and kissed him immediately. His face dropped and he hopped off to bed, giggling to his heart's content.

"Kom..."

"Yes?"

"Are you thinking what I'm thinking?"

"What are you thinking of, Kristy?"

"That we go visit Bill's Lighthouse." Suddenly it was silent and they could hear the crickets chirp.

"We must. We need to find some clues."

"Are you sure, Koko? It's late."

"We'll go first thing tomorrow."

"Should we go check out Bill and Professor Birch at the hospital?"

"Why? It wouldn't do us any good to see if they've waken up yet and I'm sure they haven't."

"Okay, but where am I going to sleep tonight?"

"There's a hammock set up in my room since the time my friend came over."

"You have friends?!?"

Kom glared at Kristy.

"I was just kidding..."

Everyone exchanged their "good nights" and went to bed. Before Kristy managed to fall asleep, she asked, "Kom?"

"Hmm?" he mumbled and turned.

"I'm scared."

"What for?"

"Why did suddenly all of this happen when I arrive? And why now? Why Bill?"

"Hmm?" Kom was sleepy and was nearly asleep. He didn't pay attention to what she was saying and just mumbled.

Kristy sighed and went to sleep.

"This is it, the lighthouse." Kristy looked at it. "Maybe we shouldn't even be here. Maybe it's dangerous."

"If it was, there would be police cars swarming here."

"That reminds me, it was all in the news, so why isn't anyone here to check it out?" It had taken them around six hours to get there so Ponyta and Stantler were pretty flustered out.

"I have no idea." Kom walked up to the door and opened it. He peered inside. When he was sure the coast was clear, he pushed the door open to its extent and invited Kristy to come in.

Nothing had been touched. It looked just as bad as it was on the news. No one bothered to clean it up and no one botered to take anything. Parts of stuff were scattered everywhere and most of the machines had sparks shooting out of them. Flasks and test tubes were cracked all over the floor and may of the contents had mixed. There were burnt markings all over the floor and the walls were scorched.

"We better call out our Pokemon to help us, Kom. Tracer, Ditto, Sunkern!" Kristy threw three balls onto the floor and they opened. She took out her Pokemon translator and tied it onto her belt so that it held onto the button.

Kom nodded approvingly. "That's a good idea. Come out! Butterfree, Noctowl, Alakazam, and Croconaw!"

"Croconaw?"

"Yeah, he evolved. Okay everyone! We all check this place out from top to bottom you can look wherever you want even if you know someone has checked it out already. In fact, you can even get in groups." They all nodded and split into their seperate ways. The only pairs were Stantler & Alakazam and Kristy & Ditto.

Kristy and Ditto started at the library. "You never know, the first clue I found when I came to the Pokemon World was in a library."

"Dittoo...."

"I can't remember that..." translator.

"Well, of course you can't. I didn't find you till afterwards. But you still remember me, right?"

"Dittoooo...."

"Not really...." translator.

"Not at all? Not even a little?"

"Dittooo..."

"No..." translator.

"Well, I can't blame you, you were just a baby...I found you the same day I left you."

"Ditto? Ditto, ditto, ditto."

"You found me? I thought I had always lived with Birch" translator.

"You were just an egg. I found you behind the 'Chaos Machine'. It's destroyed now, but that's how it was. You probably don't remember much. I remember you couldn't even talk yet because you were so young." Kristy moved a couple of the books that weren't burnt so that she could peer behind it.

"Ditto..."

"There's something shining in this crack." translator.

"Do you think you can reach it?" She slapped her head. "Of course, you can! Can you try to take it out?"

Ditto squished himself into a snake-like shape and wrapped his body around the object. He took it back out to Kristy.

"Weird..." she examined and was dumbfounded. "It looks like...a box..." And it did look like a box. Except that at the base of it, there were holes and pegs pointing out.

"Ditto, Ditto."

"Maybe it's a key." translator.

"It might be, but what could it be for?"

"Ditto."

"You should pocket it for now." translator.

"Yeah..." she put it into her bag. "Do you think someone put it in there deliberately? Or do you think it was dropped into there in accident. Maybe there was a battle here. Look, there are burnt markings all over the floor."

"Ditto...."

"Umm, let's go look for some more clues." translator.

"Oh, right." They left the library and decided to search the basement. It was really dark.

"Maybe we should go back up...I can't see a thing!"

"Ditto..." it persisted.

"We should go. I'll turn into a flashlight." translator.

"Can you turn into a big one? I'm afraid of the dark." Kristy shivered as she stared into the entrance to the basement.

"Ditto?"

"Will a torch be ok?" translator.

"As long as it doesn't burn me." Ditto turned into a torch and Kristy grabbed ahold of it. It looked really funny because the flame had a smiling face on it. She walked down.

"Oh, it's so dark! Let's go back up!" Ditto grew bigger and Kristy sighed. She really didn't want to do this. Coming here was Ditto's idea.

There were many paper boxes and as she searched them, it suddenly became really cold. It felt as if icicles suddenly pierced her sides.

"Who's there?!?" Kristy turned around and her face was pale with fright.

She saw a vague outline and before she had a chance to react, she dropped Ditto and its fire went out.
