Chapter 1

Journey through the Forest

When last we left our young group they were headed towards Ash’s next gym battle and Dawn’s next Pokemon Contest. They’re current position… ”WHAT DO YOU MEAN WE’RE LOST?!?!?!” Dawn screamed to Brock. Brock, Ash, and Pikachu were practically blown off their feet. “I thought you said this was a shortcut?!” Dawn shouted again. “Uh, heh, heh, heh, heh. Guess I was wrong.” he said with his hand behind his head. “Ugg. Way to go, Brock!” Dawn shouted. “Are you sure there’s no other way out of here?” Ash asked. “Not that I know of.” he replied. “Oh no. We’ll never get out of here. We’ll be stuck here forever! I’ll never see my mother or my bedroom or my stuffed Pokemon or my bathtub or the rest of the Sinnoh region or…” Dawn was blabbing on about this and that and obviously wasn’t going stop anytime soon. “There she goes again.” Ash said. “Earplugs?” Brock asked. “Sure.” he replied taking the earplugs from Brock and placing them firmly in his ears.

Pikachu covered his ears with his paws. “…………………………” was all that Brock, Ash, and Pikachu could hear as Dawn continued about with her end of the world talk. “Sigh.” Brock and Ash said at the same time. When Dawn had sat under a nearby tree to catch her breath and reorient herself Brock and Ash removed their earplugs and slipped them into their bags. “*SIGH* That was extremely longwinded.” she said all tired out. Ash and Brock walked up to her. “Don’t worry Dawn.” Brock started. “We’ll get out of here.” “Yeah,” Ash started. “As long as we don’t take anymore of Brock’s outdoorsman advice.” Dawn began to laugh. Brock crossed his arms and humphed at the three. Pikachu began to laugh too in his Pokemon way. Everyone reoriented themselves and continued to look for a way out of the forest. They had walked for about an hour when Dawn gave in. “I knew it. We’ll never get out!” she shouted. Ash and Brock were ready to make a quick grab for their earplugs and Pikachu was ready to plug his ears. Dawn began to babble on again and Ash and Brock made their move. Pikachu covered his ears and Brock and Ash placed the earplugs in their ears. “…………………..” Again was what the heard as Dawn made her second end of the world talk. Ash thought to himself that if they kept being lost in the forest she’d probably break the world record for end of the world babbling. Dawn kept babbling on until. “AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!”

Dawn immediately froze and Pikachu uncovered his ears. Even Ash and Brock removed their earplugs; the sound was that loud. “Did you guys hear that?” Dawn asked. “Yeah.” Ash started. “I wonder what that was?” “That was really loud. And it sounded really close too.” Brock said. Just then they heard the sound again. “AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! HELP ME!!!!” “Someone’s in trouble!” Dawn shouted. Pikachu jumped off Ash’s shoulder and ran off in another direction but stopped a brief moment and said. “Pika, Pika!” as he motioned to the other to follow him. “Come on!” Ash shouted to the others. “Follow that Pokemon!”

Chapter 2

Hidden in the Bushes

Pikachu ran as fast as he could towards where the sound was coming from. Ash, Dawn, and Brock ran as fast as they could to try and keep up with him. “I wonder who’s in trouble?” Dawn said. “I hope it’s a damsel in distress!” Brock cried out. “Well no matter what the situation is, we’ve got to help whoever’s in trouble. They could be in serious danger!” Ash said as they continued to follow Pikachu. Then, all of a sudden, they heard another voice pierce the forest. “That sounds like a Pokemon!” Brock said. “Yeah, not like the other voice we heard earlier.” Dawn replied. “Come on; don’t stop running!” Ash said. Just then a tree began to fall towards them. “LOOK OUT!!!!” Ash screamed as the three jumped to either side of the falling tree. After the tree landed the three got up and examined it.

“Looks like the tree’s been snapped in two.” Dawn exclaimed. “It must have taken something very powerful to do that.” Brock said. Just then they heard the Pokemon voice again. It’s sound location was just a few yards away. Pikachu appeared in front of the others and motioned to them to follow him. He lead them only a few yards from the bottom of the large fallen tree. It was a small clearing in the forest not even the size of a small house and standing in this clearing was a very large, very angry Pokemon. Ash and the gang were super careful to stay hidden in the nearby bushes so as to keep their presence oblivious to the Pokemon. “What kind of Pokemon is that?” Dawn wondered reaching for her PokeDex. “Hariyama: The Arm Thrust Pokemon. Hariyama practices its straight-arm slaps in any number of locations. One hit of this Pokemon’s powerful, openhanded, straight-arm punches could snap a telephone pole in two.” said the

PokeDex. “This isn’t right.” said Brock. “What’s wrong?” Dawn asked. “Hariyama isn’t supposed live in this region. It’s impossible to find a wild Hariyama in the Sinnoh region.” “Is that more of your outdoorsman advice?” Ash snapped silently. “No, it’s the straight truth. That Hariyama’s very suspicious.” The Hariyama was thrusting all the trees in the area to the ground with its arm-thrust. “We’d better intervene and stop him; he’ll smash down the entire forest if we don’t.” Ash said running out of the bushes they were hiding in. “ASH!” Brock and Dawn shouted. “Stop Hariyama!” Ash shouted. The Hariyama turned his head towards Ash and Pikachu. “You’ll destroy the entire forest if you don’t!” The Hariyama yelled at him. “That’s the Pokemon we heard earlier!” Dawn gasped. “You’re right.” Brock replied. “You ready to go Pikachu?” Ash said. “Pika.” he replied jumping off Ash’s shoulder and into the path of the angry Hariyama. “Ok Pikachu! Let’s get him!” Ash said. “Since this Hariyama’s a wild one I’ll catch him and then I can tell everyone that I caught a Hariyama in the Sinnoh region. Plus I’ll be able to tame him. He seems so wild and untamed. Like he’s an uncontrollable monster.” Pikachu was pumped for battle. “Ok Pikachu; use Thunderbolt!” “Pikachuuuu!!!!!!” he shouted as he hit Hariyama. “Hariyama!” he shouted blowing off the attack. “What?!” Ash exclaimed. Hariyama charged towards Pikachu and Ash. “Pikachu, use Volt Tackle!” Pikachu began to run towards Hariyama at full speed as his entire body became engulfed in electricity like a shield. The two Pokemon were about to collide. “SSSTTTTTTTOOOOOOPPPPPPPP!”

shouted a voice. “That’s the voice that we heard earlier.” Brock said. The voice seemed to make Hariyama stop in its tracks. Pikachu stopped also. “Now’s my chance!” Ash shouted. “GO GREAT BALL!!!!!” Ash shouted throwing a Great Ball at Hariyama. A red light engulfed him from the Great Ball, but then the light disappeared and Hariyama was still standing. “What?!” Ash exclaimed. “If I couldn’t catch you; that must mean that…” “Hariyama’s got a trainer!” Brock and Dawn exclaimed. Just then Hariyama yelled at Ash and Pikachu and ran off. “He’s gone.” Ash said. Just then the bushes beside him began to rustle and Ash went to check it out.

Ash peered into the bushes. “Brock! Dawn! Come over here!” Brock and Dawn ran out of the bushes to where Ash was. “What is it Ash?” Dawn asked. Dawn and Brock peered into the bushes and saw a young girl. “It’s a girl.” Dawn said. “Yeah, a really cute one.” Brock said. Dawn smacked him in the head. “Are you ok?” Ash asked. “Yeah…I…think, so.” she replied to them. “Were you hiding from Hariyama?” Dawn asked. “Uh huh.” she replied. “When Ash tried to catch him he couldn’t because Hariyama already had another trainer.” Brock said. “Are you Hariyama’s trainer?” “…yeah. I am.” the girl stood up and walked out of the bushes. “Hi. I’m Haruka.”

Chapter 3

Haruka & Hariyama

When she stepped out of the bushes the gang got a good look at her. She had long black hair and wore a long-sleeved green shirt and brown capri’s and wore red sandals. Her body physique looked about as old as Brock but her height was as short as Ash. “Hi Haruka. I’m Ash from Pallet Town. And these are my friends Brock and Dawn. “Hi.” Haruka said. “Why don’t we sit here and have a talk?” Brock said. “Yeah, ok?” They all sat down and began to talk. “So you’re Hariyama’s trainer, huh?” Dawn asked. “Unfortunately yes.” Haruka replied. “Why so unfortunate?” Ash asked. “Did you see how he was acting?!” Haruka shouted. “…I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to snap at you.” “You look as if your nerves are shot.” Brock said. “My nerves have been shot for so long I’ve grown used to it.” she replied. “Is that because of that Hariyama?” Ash asked. “Because of Makuhita? Yes, that’s the cause.” “What happened?” Dawn asked. “It’s a long story.” Haruka said. “I don’t know if you’d have the time to hear it.” “Well seeing as how Brock’s so called ‘excellent’ outdoorsman skills got us to where we are now I think we have all the time in the world.” Ash said. “Well, ok. I guess I can tell you about it.” Haruka said. “It all started a long time ago. Back when I was only eight. My dad was a Pokemon trainer back in his day and knew that I wanted to be one as well. So one day he came up to me. “Hey, Haruka honey. How would you like to have your own Pokemon?”

“Really, my very own Pokemon?! I get to catch my own Pokemon?” “No, I’m afraid you’re too young for that. But you can have your very own Pokemon.” “How?” “I ran into an old friend a couple of days ago and he said he was getting rid of some of his Pokemon. He was selling them and giving them away and releasing some of them and he asked me if you’d want one.” “Oh yes. I want one!” “Ok then. Let’s go.” My dad’s friend was a Pokemon breeder in the Hoenn region and a top-notch coordinator. He used to compete in Pokemon Contests until an attack accidentally hit him instead of his Pokemon and was permanently damaged and was unable to compete again. The stress would have been too much for him. So he decided to give away some of his fighting and competing Pokemon, so as they could continue to fight and compete.” “That sounds awesome.” Dawn said. “Do you know if I could get a Pokemon from him?” “Not for cheap. He told me that he sold a Milotic that was skilled in appeal and battle for 3.1 million dollars.” “Yikes!” Ash, Brock, and Dawn said at the same time.

“Yeah. To continue my dad took me to see him. “Koji!” the guy yelled. “Takuya!” my dad yelled back. “It’s good to see you again, Takuya.” “Likewise. And this must be the infamous Haruka. It’s a pleasure to meet you.” he said to me. “Hello! Am I going to get a Pokemon?” “Oh, you’re here to get a Pokemon? I thought you were just here to see how awesome I am.” “That’s funny. You told my dad I’d get a Pokemon from you!” “Oh Takuya. I told you to keep that hush, hush.” “You know me, Koji. I can’t keep a secret.” “Well I guess not. Anyway, come with me Haruka and I’ll show you my fabulous Pokemon.” he took me by the hand and walked me to where he had made a special selection of Pokemon that I could choose from personally. “Here you go, Haruka. I made a special selection of Pokemon especially for you.” “For me?” “Yes. Choose whichever one you want.” “Yeah!” There were many Pokemon within a large area enclosed by a small wire fence. It was so amazing. I’d never seen so many Pokemon at one time before. There were so many I just couldn’t choose. That’s when it happened. “Maku, Maku, Maku, Maku.” “Oh, no. Makuhita.” A Makuhita walked into me and knocked me over. “Heh, heh, heh. What are you doing little guy?” “Oh. That’s Makuhita. He’s not part of the selection.” “Why not?” “He’s a runt. He can’t attack, or fight, or even evolve. He can’t even enter a Pokemon contest in appeal. I can’t release him because he can’t defend himself.” “So what are you going to do to him?” “Probably put him to sleep.” “No! You can’t do that!” “He can’t be used for anything else.” “But that’s not fair! You’re hurt and can’t battle anymore but we don’t put you to sleep. I’ll take him.” “You’re daughter makes a good point, Takuya.” “That’s my daughter for ya.” “Well it looks as if you’ve won out, Haruka. Makuhita’s all yours.” “YEAH!!! Looks like I’m your trainer now, Makuhita. What do ya say?” “Makuhita!” “Yeah. Heh, heh.” That’s how I got Makuhita.” “You saved him.” Dawn said. “That’s touching.” “Yeah, it really is.” Brock said. “But that doesn’t answer how he got like this.”

“Yeah. When me and Pikachu encountered Hariyama he attacked us. You said he couldn’t attack.” Ash said. “Pikachu.” Pikachu said. “I learned he could attack when we were playing one day.

Chapter 4

Makuhita and Haruka;

A Deadly Encounter?

We would play tag together. It was his turn and he was chasing me. “You can’t get me, Makuhita!” “Maku!” then he ran in front of me and arm thrusted me to the ground. “Makuhita, you attacked me. You attacked me! You attacked me! Yahoo!!!!!! You attacked me!!! Heh, heh, heh, heh!” I was nine when that happened. I knew at that moment that Makuhita wanted to battle. And in a way, so did I. So we started training. We trained hard for months until he had learned three moves. Arm Thrust, Tackle, and Strength. I got the Strength HM from my dad before he died.” “I’m sorry to hear that.” Brock said. “I appreciate your concern.” Haruka said. “On the

day I turned ten we started our journey. I only had one Pokemon. We actually did pretty good. We got the first three gym badges. One day after I won a battle the trainer didn’t have any money to give me as a winners reward so he gave me a TM containing Return.” “I’ve heard of that TM.” Brock said. “The attack power varies with the relationship of a Pokemon and it’s trainer.” “Right. When I taught Makuhita the attack; it became his most powerful move. We won every battle with that move. And every minute we were together, the stronger he became. I was so proud of him. He was my world. My Makuhita. He could even talk in a way that people could understand, ya know.” “What?!” they all shrieked. “That’s impossible.” Ash said. “Not for my Makuhita. I saved a researcher for the Devon Corporation from a Team Galactic grunt. After me and Makuhita won the battle the Devon Researcher gave me something. “What is this?” “It’s a Pokemon transmitter. It transmits a Pokemon’s thoughts into words that a human can understand. We haven’t had the chance to test it out yet though.” “We’ll try it. What do ya say, Makuhita?” “Makuhita!” “We’ll do it!” “Great! All we do is place this around his neck…flip the switch and…poof! That should do it.” “Makuhita? Are you ok?” “Maku?” “*SIGH* The device doesn’t work. It’s a failure.” “*SIGH* I guess so. Come on, Makuhita. Let’s take that thing off you, ok?” “…ok.”

“*GASP*” we both said. “The transmitter works! Now we can begin complete circulation of the product!” “Makuhita…you can talk. Can you say me name?” “…Haru…Haruka!” “You did it! You did it! You rock, Makuhita!” That’s how he was able to talk. Ever since we got that transmitter we’ve become so much closer. He was my best friend, my guardian angel my…my everything. One day I gave Makuhita something very rare.          “What’s this?” “This is a Sitrus Berry. When you eat it, you regain health and energy. Here, I want you to have it.” “Thank you, Haruka.” That was a wonderful day.” “When did you first get Makuhita?” Dawn asked. “Like I said when I was eight. That was five years ago.” “So you’re thirteen years old?” Ash asked. “Yes, I am.” “So what happened?” Brock asked. “Well one day we crossed paths with a Cool Trainer who challenged us. We said yes. He used his Swellow and I, of course, used Makuhita. Unfortunately, to make a long story short, we lost. And Makuhita barely came out alive.

“You’re Makuhita is pathetic. He couldn’t even beat my weakest Pokemon. and now look at him. He’s practically dead.” “You leave my Makuhita out of this.” “Now a deal’s a deal. Hand him over.” “WHAT?!?!?!” I shrieked. “We made a deal that if I won the battle you’d hand over your Makuhita to me.” “We never made such a deal! You did in your own mind! I’m never letting him go! EVER!!!” “The way I see it, you have two choices. Choice number one. You hand over the Makuhita and leave scot-free. Or…I have my Swellow attack you till you hand over the Makuhita. It’s your choice.” “I’ll take choice number three!” I scooped up Makuhita in my arms and ran off away from the Cool Trainer as fast as I could. A ran through this very forest and into a clearing in the middle. I laid Makuhita down on the grass and talked to him to comfort him. “It’s ok Makuhita. We lost him. It’s ok now.” “…Haruka…” “No, no. Don’t speak. You’ll strain yourself. Don’t talk.” “Well, well, well. If it isn’t little miss innocent.” “*GASP*” I looked behind me to see the Cool Trainer and his Swellow. “Thought you’d lost us, eh? Now hand over the Makuhita.” “Never!” I shouted. “Fine. Have it your way! Swellow, use Peck!” His Swellow chased me from Makuhita a few feet and began to peck me over and over again. “Ah, stop it! Ah! Help! Help

me! AHH!!!” “You gonna hand over the Makuhita now?” “No! No! No! Never! Aaah! Aaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!” That’s when it happened. “HARUKA!!!!!!!” Makuhita screamed at the top of his weakened lungs before he began to glow white. I didn’t notice it since I was being pecked to death by the Cool Trainer’s Swellow. Then all of a sudden I saw this giant hand almost the size of my body grab the Swellow and throw it to the side. “HARIYAMAAAAA!!!!!!!” the Pokemon shouted. I grabbed out the PokeDex my dad gave me and read its PokeDex entry. It was Hariyama. The evolved form of Makuhita…my Makuhita. I couldn’t believe that MY Makuhita, whom Koji told me would NEVER evolve, evolved into its evolved form. Hariyama. The Arm Thrust Pokemon. Hariyama roared at the Cool Trainer’s Swellow. “Ok Swellow! Use Ariel Ace!” The Cool Trainer’s Swellow flew high into the air and then flew towards Makuhita.

He just caught Swellow’s attack by slapping his hands together at just the right moment. Swellow fought hard without end to get free. Makuhita threw Swellow to the ground, and then used the biggest Vital Throw I’d ever seen and threw Swellow all the way to the Cool Trainer. Swellow was in worse shape then Makuhita was after our battle. Then he ran towards Swellow and continued to attack him without end. “Please!” the Cool Trainer pleated. “Make him stop!” “Makuhita, stop it!” I shouted but it didn’t make any difference. He just continued to attack him; each blow worse than the next. “Makuhita, stop it!” I shouted again. Then he threw Swellow back towards the Cool Trainer. I swore that Swellow was dead. But he wasn’t. He was close though. Makuhita ran towards them to finish the job. “Please! Don’t!” the Cool Trainer said holding his injured Swellow’s head in his arms. “HARIYAMA!!!!!!” he screamed. “Makuhita, Stoooooop!!!” I screamed at the top of my lungs. He actually stopped dead in his tracks and looked at me. “Run! Get out of here!” I shouted towards the Cool Trainer. He pulled out Swellow’s PokeBall. “Swellow return!” the Cool Trainer held the ball tightly against him. “HARIYAMA!!!” Makuhita yelled at the Cool Trainer. “RUN NOW!!!” I screamed again. The Cool Trainer ran off into the forest; never to be seen by me again. I just stood there looking at Makuhita. I was terrified. I thought for sure he was going to kill that Cool Trainer’s Swellow. “M, M, Makuhita?” I stuttered. “HARIYAMAAAA!!!!!!!!!” he screamed running towards me at an alarmingly fast speed. Much, much faster then when he was still Makuhita. He tried to hit me with a Vital Throw but I dodged it. I’ve been running from him ever since then.” “That’s

awful.” Brock said. “Yeah, it is.” “How long have you been on the run from him?” asked Dawn. “About eight months now.” “Wow.” Ash started. “That’s a really long time.” “Now I think we fully understand why you’re so afraid of Hariyama.” said Brock. “I noticed that throughout the story you never called him Hariyama.” Dawn started. “Why is that?” “Because I refuse to call him that! The only thing I want is my Makuhita. Nothing more.” “Well then we’ll help you!” Ash said standing up with Pikachu on his shoulder. “What are you talking about, Ash?” Dawn asked. “We’ll help you reason with Makuhita. We’ll help you tame him!” “Are you crazy?! You can’t reason with Makuhita. He’s uncontrollable.” Haruka said. “Maybe we can.” Dawn said. “You’ll never know unless you try, right?” “I guess so…” “Then it’s settled! We’re going to get Makuhita back for you!” Ash said. “Pikachu!” Pikachu said. “Ok.” Haruka said. “Let’s give it a try.”

Meanwhile listening in on the conversation from the bushes. “Hmm, a Hariyama that’s uncontrollable and loaded with brute strength, hmm?” it was Team Rocket. “Sounds like the catch of the day. And it can talk too.” Jesse said. “Sounds like a perfect catch to me.” James said. “Yeah. It’s a perfect gift for the Boss.” Meowth said. “What would the Boss want with a Hariyama?” Jesse asked. “Picture the boss after a long hard day’s work and all he wants to do is go home and relax. He gathers all his stuff together and is ready to leave when, all of a sudden, his office door jams and won’t open. He’s frustrated and can’t get out of his office. He’s about to lose it when all of a sudden Hariyama appears and pushes the door down and the Boss is free to go.” “That’s pathetic, Meowth.” James said. “Ok, then picture this. Picture the Boss is walking through a cave.” “Why would the Boss be walking through a cave?” Jesse asked. “Because he’s looking for rare jewels and stones.” “That makes sense.” James said. “To continue. He’s found a lot of stuff worth taking and is heading to the entrance of the cave when all of a sudden there’s an earthquake and the opening of the cave is blocked by a rockslide. The Boss thinks that he’s going to die when suddenly Hariyama appears and Arm Thrust’s the rocks out of the way and the Boss is free. And then you know what he’ll say? “Thanks to Meowth and his friends this Hariyama saved my life and I am free to live another day. They deserve a reward as valuable as my life is to me.” See?” “It’s perfect.” Jesse said. “It’s wonderful.” James said. “And as a bonus we’ll poach Pikachu too.” Meowth said. “Yeah!” the all said.

Chapter 5

To Catch a Hariyama

Ash and the gang had decided to attempt to tame Haruka’s Makuhita and reunite the two back together. The first thing was to find Makuhita. “So how do we find Makuhita?” Dawn asked. “Well I’m not sure. He usually finds me. I could be just walking around and all of a sudden he’ll be right in front of me or behind me. Sometimes he’s super quiet and you don’t even realize it until it’s too late. And sometimes he’s so loud you can hear him coming from a mile away.” “I suggest that we just walk around with Haruka in the forest until we encounter him.

In a forest like this that shouldn’t be too hard.” Brock suggested. “Good idea.” Ash said. “Ok. Let’s do that.” Haruka said. They began to walk around and see if they could find Makuhita…or the other way around. “I just see one problem with this plan.” Haruka started. “Once we encounter Makuhita how are we supposed to reason with him if we can’t even understand him?” Everyone halted in their tracks. “That’s a very good question.” Dawn said. “Yeah, how are we supposed to reason with Makuhita if we can’t understand him when he’s screaming?” Ash said.

“Haruka,” Brock started. “You said that Makuhita had a transmitter around his neck, right?” “Yeah, he does. But I think it got switched off when he evolved.” “Well then that answers our question. We’ll just switch the transmitter back on and that’s how we’ll reason with him.” “Are you crazy?!” Haruka shrieked. “We can’t even get within twenty Ft. of Makuhita, let alone right up to the transmitter.” “Maybe we can.” Dawn said. “How?” Brock asked. “Look.” everyone looked at what Dawn was talking about. It was Hariyama! “It’s Makuhita.” Ash said silently. “Is he…sleeping?” Brock asked. “Yes, he is.” Haruka said. “Makuhita needs a lot of energy to fight because he’s not supposed to battle so he has to sleep a lot. The thing is that I’ve never seen him sleep before since he evolved.” “Maybe he can go longer without sleeping if he’s got a bigger energy supply.” Ash said. “That could be.” Brock said. “What was the longest period of time you’ve gone without seeing Makuhita?” Dawn asked.

“Um, let me think…” Haruka said. “The longest time I’ve gone without seeing Makuhita was three days.” “Then he must sleep for three days. That’s perfect.” Ash said. “All we have to do is sneak up on him and turn on the transmitter. And then when he wakes up in a few days we’ll be able to reason with him.” “But who’s gonna turn on the transmitter?” Dawn asked. “…I hadn’t thought of that. Why don’t you do it, Brock?” “I’m not going near that thing.” “Ok then. You go, Haruka.” “No way am I doing it.” “Dawn, how bout you go?” “Are you kidding? I’m not going. Would you, Ash?” “…I guess not.” “Then what do we do?” Haruka asked. “If we don’t turn on the transmitter while he’s asleep now we may never get another

chance again. “I know.” Ash said. “I have an idea.” Brock said picking up 4 twigs from the ground; then snapped on in half and threw one of the halves on the ground. “We’ll draw straws. Whoever gets the short straw goes to turn on the transmitter. Fair?” “Um hmm.” they said. Brock held out his hand to Ash and Ash picked a twig. Then Brock held out his hand to Haruka and Haruka picked a twig. Then Brock held out his hand to Dawn and Dawn picked a twig. The last twig was Brock’s. “Ok everybody. Show us what you got.” Brock said. Brock unclenched his hand. The twig was long. Brock was safe. “*SIGH*” he said. Next Ash unclenched his hand. The twig was also long. Ash, too, had passed. “Whoof.” he said. The only two that were left were Haruka and Dawn. Dawn slowly unclenched her hand. The twig, too, was also long. “*SIGH* *GASP* Oh no.” Everybody turned their attention towards Haruka’s open palm.

The twig was short. Haruka had lost. Haruka gulped back her growing fear. “If you want Haruka,” Ash started. “I’ll go instead.” “No, no it’s ok. Makuhita’s my Pokemon. It’s only fitting that it’s me who does it. And besides, I lost fair and square. I’ll go.” “Ok.” Dawn said. “You be careful.” Brock said. “Here, take Pikachu with you in case anything goes wrong.” “Ok. Thank you, Ash.” Pikachu jumped off Ash’s shoulder and walked beside Haruka. The two crept closer to the unsuspecting Pokemon. “Pika.” Pikachu said silently. Haruka was trying her best to hold back her fear. Closer and closer the came. Higher and higher the fear in Haruka’s body rose till the two stood in front of the sleeping Pokemon. “Ok Pikachu. This is it. There’s no turning back now.” Haruka whispered. Haruka slowly reached for the transmitter’s switch as the gang watched in complete suspense. Haruka was only inches from the switch when, it happened. Hariyama woke up. “*GASP*” Haruka could feel her heart stop.

“HARIYAMAAAAA!!!!!!” he screamed grabbing Haruka with his right hand. His hand was so big he could wrap his hand around her and still have room for one more of her. Haruka was scared to tears. She couldn’t say a word. Suddenly she remembered it was her responsibility to switch on the transmitter. She reached out as far as she could as fast as she could and flicked the switch. “The transmitter’s on!” she shouted back to the gang. “Ash, do something!” Dawn shouted. “Pikachu, use Thunderbolt!” Ash shouted. “No Ash; you’ll hurt Haruka too.” Brock said. “Right.” Ash said. “HARIYAMAAAA!” Makuhita screamed running off with Haruka in his hands. “Come on; we’ve got to rescue Haruka!” Ash screamed at the gang sprang from their hiding spot to follow Makuhita.

Chapter 6

Haruka’s Bravery and Hariyama’s Confession

“HELLLLPPPPPPP!!! SOMEBODYYYYY!!!!!” Haruka screamed at the top of her lungs, hoping someone would hear her. “HELP!!!!!” she kept on screaming with no luck. “Help! Somebody, help me!!!!” “Quiet!” Makuhita shouted at her. “Let me go! Let me go! Let me go! Let me go! HELLLLPPP! Let me go!!!” Ash and the gang were following Makuhita and Haruka. “Man, he’s fast, isn’t he?” Dawn said. “Yeah, he sure is.” Ash said. “We shouldn’t have let Haruka go. One of us should have gone instead of her.” “Well it’s too late to think of that now, Ash.” Brock said. “We’ve got to save Haruka before it’s too late!” “Pikachu!” “HEEELLLLLPPPPPPP!!!!” Haruka screamed again and again. Makuhita grew tired of her screaming and wrapped his hand around her mouth. All of Haruka’s cries were completely muffled. “… … … … … …” Makuhita walked into a large clearing that Haruka remembered. “This is the same clearing I brought to Makuhita after that fight with the Cool Trainer. This is where Makuhita evolved.” she thought to herself. Makuhita removed his hand from her mouth.

“LET ME GO!! LET ME GO!! LET ME GO!!” she screamed. “PUT ME DOWN!!!” she screamed once more. Makuhita dropped her and she landed on the long green grass. The sun was beginning to set and was easily seen. Just like the on the day Makuhita evolved. Makuhita took a step back. The two were only a foot away. “Why did you bring me here?” Haruka asked. Makuhita didn’t do anything except stare at her. “Why did you bring me here?!” Haruka screamed. “Haruka try to kill Hariyama!” Makuhita shouted. “His voice. It’s distorted. And his speech isn’t proper either. And he acts so…primitive.” Haruka thought to herself. “Haruka try to kill Hariyama!” “No, that’s not true! We were only trying to turn on the transmitter. Please, Makuhita, you have to believe me.” “Not Makuhita! HARIYAMAAAAA!!!!!” “No! No I won’t call you that. All I want is my Makuhita!! Why did you do that? Why did you do that to me? Why did you evolve? You went ballistic! You almost killed that Cool Trainer’s Swellow! Why on earth did you do that?” “Hariyama evolve to save Haruka!” Haruka felt her heart skip a beat. “You…what?” “Hariyama evolve to save Haruka. Hariyama not want Haruka to die.” Hariyama’s memories went to that day when he evolved.

“Ah, stop it! Ah! Help! Help me! AHH!!!” “You gonna hand over the Makuhita now?” “No! No! No! Never! Aaah! Aaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!” “HARUKA!!!!!!!” “Hariyama evolve to save Haruka from Swellow. Hariyama do it for you.” “Well I don’t want it!” Haruka shouted. Makuhita stepped back in shock. “I’d have rather have been pecked to death by that Swellow than have to see you throwing that Swellow around like a rag doll! You almost killed it! And then you tried to kill me! You’ve changed for the worst and I hate it! I’m afraid of you. You scare me! And I have proof that you’re not my Makuhita! Use Return on me. As hard as you can. Go ahead. DO IT!!!” Hariyama attempted to use Return on Haruka. He hit her, but nothing happened. She didn’t even feel anything. “See, I told you. That attack is supposed to represent our relationship. And it can’t even phase me! I’m not going to accept the fact that you did it to save me. In the beginning, maybe. But now, no! I won’t believe it! I WON’T!!” Just then Ash, Dawn, Brock, and Pikachu ran into the clearing where Haruka and Makuhita were. “Haruka!” Dawn shouted. “Dawn!” Haruka shouted back. “Go away!!” Makuhita yelled spreading out his arms like a barrier that kept Haruka from the gang. “Pikachu! Let’s go!” Ash shouted. “Let me help too!” Dawn said. “Go Piplup!” she said throwing her PokeBall. “Piplup!” Piplup said; pumped up for battle. “Piplup, help Pikachu get Haruka back!” she exclaimed. “Piplup!” “Ok, let’s get him!” Ash shouted. “Pikachu, use Thunderbolt!” “Piplup, use Bubble!”

The two attacks combined together and hit Makuhita with force. “That’s it!” Ash shouted. “Way to go! Piplup, use Peck!” Dawn shouted. Piplup launched at Makuhita. This gave Haruka the advantage to get away from Makuhita’s sight. “Ash!” she shouted. Makuhita glanced over his shoulder to see that Haruka was gone. He looked to where the others were and there was Haruka. Standing with the three. Makuhita didn’t even notice Piplup hurdling towards him until…whack! Right in the forehead, sending him to the ground. Makuhita was just about to get back up when suddenly a net came down and covered Makuhita and Piplup. “What?!” they all

exclaimed. “Prepare for trouble we’re making our stance.” “And make it double you Pokemon don’t stand a chance.” “Is that a voice I hear?” “It shrieks to me loud and clear.” “On the wind.” “Past the stars.” “In your ear.” “Bringing chaos at a break neck pace.” “Dashing hope putting fear in its place.” “A rose by any other name is just as sweet.” “When everything’s worse our work is complete.” “Jesse.” “James.” “Meowth, now that's a name.” “Putting the do-gooders in there place.” “We're team rocket.” “In your face!” “*GASP* Team Rocket!” Brock shouted. “You were supposed to poach Pikachu not Piplup, Meowth!” Jesse screamed. “What’s the problem Piplup starts with P, just like Pikachu.” James replied. “James is right. Let’s just go!” Meowth said pulling up the net containing the two Pokemon. “No!” Haruka screamed. “Let them go!” “Starly, I choose you!” Ash said throwing a PokeBall. “Starly!” Ash’s Starly was pumped and ready. “Ok Starly, use Ariel Ace on Team Rocket’s balloon!” Starly flew high into the air and came down at super speeds and went right through Team Rocket’s balloon. The balloon came down and the two Pokemon were free. “Piplup!” Dawn shouted. “Piplup!” Piplup said back to her running to her Trainer’s safety. The balloon crashed into the ground and Team Rocked came flying out and landed on the ground. “So you think you’re pretty tough, huh?” Jesse said. “Seviper! Come on out!” “Carnivine, You too!” “Seviper!” “Carnivine!”

Carnivine turned and began to bite James’ head. “OWCH! I know you like me but this is getting old!” “Seviper, use Poison Tail!” “Carnivine, use Bite!” Seviper and Carnivine were closing in on Hariyama. “HARIYAMAAAAA!!!!” he just dodged the attacks and the two Pokemon collided together. “Wow, he really is good at battle.” Ash said. “That’s the good part about all this.” Haruka said. “He’ll beat the snot outta those creeps with ease.” “That’s it. I’m gonna teach you a lesson you little twerp. Seviper use Poison Tail!” Seviper headed for Haruka. “Haruka, look out!!” Brock shouted.  Haruka looked behind her to see Seviper closing in on her.

“Aaaaahhh!” “HARUKA!!!” Makuhita jumped and grabbed Haruka just in time and laid her down on the ground. Then went after Seviper. During the jump the transmitter got switched off. “Huh? Did he just save me?” Haruka asked herself.

Chapter 6

Reminiscence

Makuhita grabbed Seviper by the neck and threw him towards Team Rocket. “That’s it! I’ve had enough!” Jesse said. “Seviper, use Poison Sting!” “Carnivine, use Pin Missiles!” the two attacks came hurdling towards Hariyama. Hariyama turned towards the attack and knew he couldn’t stop the attack or dodge it. He had the sneaking suspicion that he wouldn’t survive the blow either. “Now DIE!!” Jesse screamed. Makuhita turned away from the attack. He did not want to see his death. “Nnooooo!” Haruka jumped in front of Makuhita and…took the blow. “HARUKA!!” Ash, Dawn, and Brock screamed. Makuhita looked forward and found horror. Haruka was standing right in front of him; taking the blow. Haruka struggled to let out what she wanted to say. “I’m…sorry. I just…want things…to go back…to the way…things were…” Makuhita’s thoughts went to

the battle against the Cool Trainer. “Heh, you’re pathetic. Swellow, use Wind Scythe on her!” Swellow flapped his wings and launched a wind attack that cuts you on contact. “Aaaaahhh!!!” Haruka screamed. “HARUKA!” Makuhita screamed jumping in front of Haruka to take the attack. Haruka looked on in terror; all her worst nightmares were coming true all in one moment. Makuhita looked back at her out the corner of his left eye and said. “I’m…sorry…Haruka. I…couldn’t…win.” “MAKUHITA!!!!!!!!” “HARIYAMAAAAAAA!!!!!!” Makuhita screamed. He was back in the present and was staring at Haruka who was collapsing to the ground. Haruka hit the ground. “HARUKA!!!” the gang screamed at the top of their lungs. They couldn’t believe what Haruka had done. Haruka’s thoughts went to the battle with the Cool Trainer as well. “Makuhita!” she screamed running to the aid of her injured friend. “Makuhita? Are you ok? Please, please say you’re ok. I don’t want to lose you. Makuhita?...” Makuhita stood there looking at Haruka. “…H…H..Haruka.” Makuhita said running to Haruka. “We’ve got to stop him!” Ash said ready to run with Pikachu.

“No, Ash. Wait.” Dawn said. “Wait.” “This wasn’t supposed to happen.” Jesse said. “Yeah.” James replied. Makuhita picked up the still Haruka and held her in his hands. “…Haruka.” he said again. Haruka was still and silent. Everyone held their breath. They were hoping for a good outcome. A tear began to run down Makuhita’s face. “Mmm.” Haruka groaned. Everyone let their breath go. She was alive. Haruka slowly opened her eyes. “…M, Makuhita?” she stuttered. “…Haruka.” he said. And to make a point, the transmitter is off. “Makuhita?” Haruka said again. “She’s alive.” Dawn sighed. “That’s good.” Ash said. “Yeah, I thought for sure she was a goner.” Brock said. Makuhita handed something to Haruka. “What’s that?” Haruka asked. Makuhita handed it to her. “It’s the Sitrus Berry I gave you. I can’t take this.” Makuhita broke the berry in half and fed one half to Haruka. “Thanks.” she said. “Makuhita. I just want things to go back to the way they were. Before you evolved, before we began to battle, before we began to train. I just want my Makuhita.” Haruka reached her hand out and turned on the transmitter. “All I want…is my friend.” Makuhita sighed.

“Hariyama afraid that can’t happen.” “Why not?” Haruka asked in concern. Makuhita placed Haruka on the ground and sighed again. “Haruka, could never like Hariyama…when Hariyama scares Haruka.” Makuhita sighed once more and began to walk off. Haruka was disappointed at herself. “…H…Hariyama?” she said. Hariyama turned around and looked at Haruka in shock. Haruka had her hands together under her chin and her legs and arms were together in an innocent saddened pose. Hariyama ran towards Haruka. Ash, Dawn, and Brock held tight. Team Rocket didn’t even say anything. Hariyama scooped up Haruka in his hands and hugged her. Haruka did the same. “It is you Hariyama. You are my Makuhita.” “Haruka my girl.” Hariyama said. “I love you, Hariyama.” Haruka said. “I love you too, Haruka.” he replied back to her. Ash and the gang had smiles on their faces. Jesse became aggravated. “Ok, can we cut out all this mushiness, now?! Let’s just take Hariyama.”

“That’s what you think! You ready Hariyama?” “Mmm.” “Now you’ll see the infamous Haruka in action, guys.” Haruka said. “Hariyama, use Arm Thrust on Carnivine!” Hariyama Arm Thrusted Carnivine sending him to the ground. “Seviper, get up and use Poison Tail!” Seviper got up and hurtled towards Hariyama. “Hariyama, use Vital Throw on Seviper!” Hariyama grabbed Seviper and threw him on Carnivine. “Ok Hariyama. Use Return!!” Hariyama readied his Return as Seviper and Carnivine got up. “Carnivine, use Bite!” “Seviper, use Bite, as well!” The two Pokemon were on the move. “Now Hariyama. RETURN!!!” Hariyama attacked the two Pokemon with explosive force sending them back into Jesse and James. “Ok Ash, Dawn. It’s your turn!” “Piplup, use Bubble!” “Pikachu, use Thunderbolt!” the two attacks collided again and hit Team Rocket and sent the flying. “Ooh, must this always happen?!” Jesse whined. “We just encountered that twerp and she clobbered us.” “Well at least this remains the same.” James said. They all shouted out. “Team Rocket’s blasting off again!!!” *PING*

“That was awesome!” Dawn shouted as the gang ran out to meet Haruka and Hariyama. Hariyama picked up Haruka and walked towards the others. “You did it, Haruka. You did it! You tamed Makuhita!” Ash said. “No, it’s Hariyama.” she said resting her head on his chest. Later on the group was in the nearest town. “So did you find out what made Hariyama go crazy when he evolved?” asked Brock. “The Devon researcher said that it was the transmitter. It interfered with the evolution process and had a bad affect on his brain, made him primal in certain areas.” “Can you fix it?” Dawn asked. “Unfortunately no. And that really bad primal part can still come out of him at any time. But with us back together and our friendship as good as new; I think we’ll be alright. We have you to thank.” “Hey, it was you who did all the work. Not us.” Ash said. “I guess. Well it’s time for us to go now. You win you’re next Pokemon Contest, Dawn. And good luck on you next gym battle, Ash. And…don’t take anymore of Brock’s outdoorsman advice, ok?” Ash and Dawn began to laugh again. Brock just humphed at them. “Well you take care of yourself ok, Haruka?” Ash said as they started walking off. “Don’t worry, I will. We both will. See ya!” “Bye!” “Well there they go.” Haruka said as she switched on the transmitter. “Guess so.” Hariyama said. “So what do we do now?” “How bout Hariyama carry Haruka?” he said scooping her up in his hands. “That sounds like a good idea.” Haruka said. And so our heroes have separated and gone their separate ways. Ash is pumped up even more now for his next gym battle and Dawn’s psyched about her next Pokemon Contest. Haruka and Hariyama are together again and are as happy as ever. Will our heroes ever cross paths again? Who knows? Anything’s possible in the world of Pokemon!
