Episode Six

Sidetracked!

Last Time

Flyy saved the day at the lab and Professor Elm let Flyy take Tick on his new adventure! In the end, it turned out that Flyy's dad was framed by Kim's mum in the theft of Tick.
With D.I Smith and Sleuth not on their tail, Flyy and Kim can go where they want, without fear, or can they...?

Night was falling. Flyy and Kim were walking through the woods. The occasional hoots from the Hoothoot made Kim jump, but Daffodil always protected her.
'So...' Flyy said casually, looking up to the sky. The stars were incredibly bright, and very beautiful. 'Adventure, eh?'
'Yes. Me and Daffodil need some fresh-air, to meet some fresh faces. We want nothing but fun from it.' Kim looked at him. The moon made his hair look shiny. 'So you want to be a master? I'm sure you're going to need more than Tick.'
Tick barked. 'Yeah,' Flyy laughed. 'I wonder how an Electrike would fair against Lance's Dragonite!' Kim and Flyy laughed together.
'Where are you going to get a strong Pokemon for Bugsy?'
'Hmmm? I know one isn't just going to fall from the sky...'

Alert! Alert! Crash Landing Immanent! Alert! Alert!
The monitors weren't lying. The Team Rocket Air Craft was falling fast.
The dual rotor system was similar to that of a Chinooks', and the wings on the side to that of a Cessna Plane.
The cause of the system meltdown was one Pokemon. A very small, Fire-Type Pokemon.
The leader of the Regiment involved in the crash was called Dean. His assistant was Terry.* Dean was tall and had spiky hair, Terry was short, fat and had short hair.
'Terry!' Dean called over the roar of the wind shifting around the Air Craft.
'Yes, sir!' Terry replied.
'Check on the holding bay! I think we have a breakout!' Dean had just come back from Sinnoh after making a big attack on a Pokemon Center there. They had managed to get a sum of thirty Pokemon, ready for training with the new Rocket recruits.
Dean and Terry used to be on Team Galactic, but they were kicked out. If only Cyrus could see them now. Giovanni was arguing with more officials to make Dean work in 'upstairs' where the Elites and Admins train and manage the corporation.
Dean's radio crackled as he struggled with the helm. 'Sir! It was Torchic! I repeat! Torchic has caused a fire and mass breakout!'
'Damnit! Tame that fire breathing pest, Terry!' Dean shouted back.
'The whole bay is on fire, Dean!' the radio crackled. 'What should I do?'
'How is the shaft? Is it sealed?'
There was a brief pause. Dean pulled the Craft up, but that just slowed the descent, although they were still plummeting fast.
Luckily, he had been trained for situations like this, unlike some of the Grunts who were panicking and running around the deck. The massive dome of a windshield was withstanding the pressure, but for how much longer?
'The shaft is... open!' Terry said statically.
'Bollocks! How many have escaped?'
'Just Torchic so far, sir.'
Good,
Dean thought to himself. At least we still have a lot. Besides, Torchic was hostile anyway. I guess he's someone else's problem now

Torchic hurtled towards the floor incased in a blazing hot ball of flame. It lit up the night sky, sending ash across the tree tops and onto the forest floor.
Torchic hit the floor, igniting a blaze that made a circle of fire.

***

Kim saw it first, but Flyy felt the heat surround them. The ball of fire had landed just behind them, and they were surrounded by a mass of red, yellow and orange.
'What on Earth was that?' Kim asked.
'Is that a-' Then the steaming ball stood up and screamed its name. It turned to Flyy and chirped something that meant nothing him.
'A real-life Torchic! Flyy said.
A tree fell down and into the ring. It caught fire instantaneously. There was a scream, and Flyy spun around to see that Kim was trying to help Daffodil. Her leg was trapped underneath the burning tree.
'Tick! Try to push that tree!' Big mistake. Torchic looked Flyy in the eye and opened his beak.
Flyy dived out of the way just in time. Torchic's Ember Attack barely missed Flyy's feet.
Tick saw the danger and gave one last push on the tree. It rolled away and Daffodil began using Metronome.
This time, Daffodil didn't get lucky. She used Razor Leaf. The leaves caught alight straight away and made the circle smaller and the smoke thicker. Kim coughed.
'Flyy! Catch it! That's the only way to stop it!' she wheezed.
'Right!' Flyy smiled. 'Tick! Be careful of the fire, but use Thunder Fang!'
Tick zipped towards the chick Pokemon. Torchic screamed and began to hop side to side. Perhaps it was trying to put Tick off. Whatever it was doing, it didn't faze him. The static venom inside Tick's mouth was almost spilling out of the sides. He opened his jaws and dived for Torchic's legs.
'Good shot!' Flyy shouted. The Torchic had doubled over in pain. It was paralysed.
Flyy drew a red and white PokeBall. 'PokeBall, go!' He threw the PokeBall straight at the Torchic. A beam of red light emitted from the PokeBall. It covered the fallen Pokemon and absorbed him into the 'Ball.
It shook once...
It shook twice...
It shook thrice...
The button in the centre of the PokeBall flashed red and Flyy ran over to the PokeBall. The heat was baring down on him, and his face was smudged with ash, as was Kim's.
'Is it...?' Kim coughed.
Flyy's eyes lit up. He had caught his second Pokemon! A Torchic! Flyy quickly thought of a nickname.
Well, it seems to be fiery tempered. Plus its ability is Blaze... I know! Blaze!
So Blaze had now joined the team roster!

The Air Craft had crashed just near Azalea Town. A white-haired boy and a girl of the same age inspected the crash.
The two members of Team Rocket that were in charge of the operation crawled out from underneath the wreckage.
'Damnit! How could you let the Torchic escape! That was the rarest Pokemon we've ever found in the wild! You imbossi-' Dean stopped insulting Terry when he saw the duo. He sighed. 'Crap.'
'Hey, Dean, Terry. Long time no see, huh?' The white-haired boy stepped to one side, to reveal a Scizor. 'Slash?' The Scizor responded by picking the Rockets up.
'Spook! My good friend! How's police work these days?' Terry asked.
'Save it,' Spooks girlfriend Lola spat.
Slash the Scizor suddenly looked towards the East. 'What is it, buddy?' Spook asked.
I smell burning wood,
he replied telepathically.* I also smell... Flyy!'

'Tick!' Flyy coughed. 'There has to be a way out of here!'
The fire was getting smaller and smaller. 'Flyy! Do something!'
He thought quickly. A light switched on in his head.
'Use Peck! She can Gust us out!' But that wasn't Flyy's entire plan. He detached one of his five PokeBalls from his belt and dropped it on the floor. Blaze came out and stared at Flyy; full of anger.
'Blaze, I'm Flyy, and this,' he pointed to his Electrike. 'This is Tick.'
Blaze let out a screech and fire began brewing in his mouth. Flyy's plan was working OK at the moment.
'Kim! I need that Gust now!' Kim nodded and Peck began using Gust. The wind filled the circle and the flames shrunk, so did Blaze's Ember.
Flyy and Tick scrambled through the flames, followed by Kim. Flyy looked over to Blaze, who was sitting in the flames; crying. Peck was still flying in circles and giving out the strong winds.
Flyy ran back into the circle, just before Peck retreated into her PokeBall. HE was stuck on the inside, and Tick was on the outside.
'What's wrong, Blaze?' The moonlight made Blaze look really bright. His orange feathers ruffled slightly in the light breeze.
Blaze's head darted upwards. His beak opened and a burst of fire shot out. It hit a point in the sky and began sliding downwards, creating a dome of fire.
'What are you doing?' Flyy shouted. 'I'll die in here!' Flyy ran over to the edge of the dome and began pounding on the walls. He flinched at the first pound, the realised that it was cold. He wasn't going to die after all!
Blaze walked over to his side. He looked up at him and jumped onto his arm. The dome began to melt away until it was reduced to nothing.
When Kim saw him, she yelped with happiness. 'What happened?'
'I'm not too sure, actually. It wasn't hot fire; it was like ice. Perhaps that's why he's not happy, he needs medical attention.'
'I'll take you there.' Flyy looked up and saw a Flygon.
'It can't be...' his jaw dropped. 'Flick? Oh my God! Flick! Spook and Lola!'
'Who are they?' Kim asked.
'Spook is my psychic cousin, he can talk to Pokemon, and Lola is his girlfriend.'
'Psychic? Like Sabrina?'
'Yeah, she's my Aunt. Did I not tell you?'
'Nope!' Kim replied in a kind of faux angry tone.
When the Flygon had landed and Blaze had been returned to his PokeBall until they reached Azalea, an older teenager hopped off, accompanied by a girl and two adults. A Scizor landed on the other side of Spook.
Spook had white hair and a slender build. His black cloak went down to his ankles and his neck had goggles hanging loose around them.
His female accomplice wore a pink robe and had her hair tied back in a ponytail. A Delcatty was following her.
'Hey, mini!' Spook said to Flyy. He was a few inches taller than Flyy's five-foot-five, so he tussled his hair. Flyy smoothed it back into shape.
'Hey, Spook! How have you been?'
'Not bad, not bad. Lola and me have been around the globe. We heard there was a big heist going on in Sinnoh and it was flying through here, so we decided to follow.' Spook looked at the two adults. 'These two are old "friends" of mine. They were with me since I started my adventure, and I've beaten them every time.' He laughed. Then he looked at Kim. 'And is this your latest squeeze, Flyy?'
'Uhhh...' Flyy started.
'No! Definitely not! We met yesterday!' Kim blurted out.
'Whatever...' Spook looked at Lola and winked. 'Anyway... Slash said he smelt trouble when we were busting these losers down by the well in Azalea. We kind of knew it would be you.'
Flyy smiled. 'We need a Pokemon Center. Can you fly us there?'
'Flick is strong for a small dragon, but I think having all of you is pushing it slightly.'
'No, it's fine! I have a Spearow!' Kim said proudly. Daffodil smiled too, but she knew she would have to be inside her PokeBall, which she didn't like very much.
'And I can use Flash,' Lola said whilst producing a PokeBall. She released the Pokemon within and a Fearow popped out. 'Flyy can come with me and you, Dean and Terry could go on Flick.' Lola smiled at Spook, but he didn't look too chuffed. Neither did Dean or Terry.
'Do we get a-'
'No.' Spook replied bluntly.

The Grunts that survived had returned to Giovanni. He wasn't very happy. He was about to give Dean a promotion as well!
'And you say it was only one escapee?'
'Yes, sir. The Pokemon was never recovered.'
Giovanni spun around in his chair and waved his hand. 'Oh well. One won't do any harm. What was it?' The Grunts paused.
One stepped forward and said finally: 'A Torchic, sir, It was very hostile and I heard it burnt down the whole of Eastern Woods.'
'Really? Well I guess one can do harm...' Giovanni paused, then slowly spun back around to face the Grunts. 'Go get Dean and the fat one back. They have a new mission.'
'Yes, sir!' The Grunts filed out, and Giovanni called to the last one.
'And tell them that is of the utmost importance that they come back, that is presuming they are alive.'
'Yes, sir...'

The Grunts did succeed. They recaptured their officers and disposed of D.I. Spook and his accomplices, or so they think...
