Free Bird

WhatÕs up! You may remember me for ÒAsh Ketchum: SupermanÓ, but IÕm doing something else here. IÕve looked at what a lot of writers call ÒsongficsÓ-a term IÕm not using; I feels like calling it a Òmusical storyÓ. Sounds stupid, doesnÕt it? Anyways, I was looking at some, and they all seem to have bubblegum pop lyrics. WhereÕs the rock? So, I came up with a brilliant idea: make my own. The song IÕm using? FREE BIRD!!! IÕve heard the song a thousand times, and I got a brainstorm-since itÕs about sweet freedom, IÕve decided to put it in an ÒAAMLÓ (I think thatÕs what you call it) context. Too bad I canÕt have that solo at the end. Oh, well. By the way, IÕm using a phrase in this story thatÕs in Irish Gaelic. The phrase goes, ÒThanum an DhulÓ, and it means ÒThunderinÕ Jaysus.Ó Just so you know, the first word goes like ÒTanumÓ, not in the way youÕd think with the standard use for Òth.Ó If youÕre wondering why I have another ÒFree BirdÓ, itÕs because I was worried that some of you might say that the biggest weakness for the original ÒFree BirdÓ story is because of the ending. So, I decided to re-write the ending, make it what I like to call a Òyin-yangÓ ending, where itÕs a sad and happy ending at the same time. I also have this one because I screwed up the second version, so this is version 2b.

Note: The publishing rights for Pokemon belong to Nintendo USA and Warner Brothers. ÒFree BirdÕsÓ publishing rights belong to the Gods of Southern Rock, Lynyrd Skynyrd, (itÕs pronounced Leh-nerd Skin-nerd. Get it right.) And UMG Recordings, incorporated.

Ash: 15

Misty: 15

Yes, I am doing a non-Superman story.

Ash had just returned home another journey. When he got to his house, he was surprised to see someone there, waiting for him. It was Misty.

ÒMisty?Ó

ÒHi, Ash.Ó

ÒHow come youÕre here?Ó He asked, trying not to sound annoyed.

ÒI came to tell you something, Ash.Ó

If I leave here tomorrow

Would you still remember me?

For I must be traveling on, now,

'Cause there's too many places I've got to see.

They both took a walk around Pallet, barely talking to each other. Finally, Misty broke the silence.

ÒI hear you made it to the championship match.Ó

ÒYeah.Ó He replied. He wasnÕt ashamed of it-hell, he was proud of it. This was the first time he had advanced that far in a major conference, not counting the Orange Islands.

ÒI hear you put up a fight.Ó She said.

ÒYeah, I did! And I got real close, to!Ó He went on to tell her all about it. She giggled at a humorous comment he made.

But, if I stayed here with you, girl,

Things just couldn't be the same.

She finally gathered up her courage and took a deep breath and said

ÒAsh, how long have we known each other?Ó

ÒAbout 5 years, why do you ask?Ó

ÒIÕm just asking,Ó her courage slipping away for a moment. ÒI just felt like knowing, thatÕs all.Ó

ÒOh.Ó

'Cause I'm as free as a bird now,

And this bird you cannot change.

ÒIÕm leaving for another region soon.Ó He said. Her heart sank at this comment. It was getting dark now.

ÒWhy?Ó She inquired. ÒWhy do you need to go on another journey?Ó

ÒBecause I still wanna be a Pokemon Master!Ó He said excitedly. Even after all these years, heÕs still the same as always. She thought.

OhÉOh...OhÉ OhÉ Oh...

And the bird you cannot change.

They stopped at a river. After a few seconds, they remembered what it was.

ÒThis is the river where I first met you.Ó Said Ash.

ÒYeah, I remember. And then you stole my bike!Ó She playfully scolded him for.

ÒI thought you used that as an excuse to get to know me better!Ó

ÒBest idea IÕve ever had!Ó

And this bird you cannot change.

Lord Knows I CanÕt Change.

She decided that this was it. She was going to say it. Luckily for her, he set it up.

ÒMisty, what were you going to say to me, again?Ó

She hesitated a minute and then finally said, ÒWhat do you think of me, Ash?Ó

ÒI think youÕre a great friend, Misty.Ó She took a deep breath and said,

ÒAsh, IÕve been meaning to tell you this, but-I love you!Ó

ÒGee, tha-HUH!?Ó He said, surprised by her declaration, his jaw dropped all the way to the ground and his eyes as wide as basketballs.

ÒI love you, Ash!Ó She said back to him, her eyes filled with tears, now, and giving him a big bear hug, her head on his shoulders, crying her eyes out. Ash was as speechless as a brick. After a minute, he softened up and returned the embrace.

ÒMistyÉÓ he said. She was afraid that he didnÕt share the same sentiments as her, so she pulled away, only to feel him pull her towards him-and his lips met hers. She was just as surprised as Ash was at first, but then her eyelids closed and she deepened their kiss. After a while, he pulled away.

Bye, bye, Baby its been a sweet love.

Yea, yea

Though this feeling I can't change

ÒMistyÉÓ he said, giving her shudders down her spine ÒI love you, too.Ó She was euphoric, and wrapped her arms around his neck, throwing him off balance somewhat.

ÒIÕm so glad! I never thought youÕd love me!Ó He wrapped his arms around her again, then she said something that made him shudder, Òplease stay in Cerulean with me.Ó He froze on the spot. He had no idea what to say.

ÒMistÉÓ he said, very hesitant. Her heart sank. She knew he wasnÕt going to say yes. ÒI canÕt,Ó Her heart sank even more. Ò I still have a long way to go to become a Pokemon Master. I canÕt just give up now.Ó He said, wiping a tear from her eye.

But please don't take it so badly,

'Cause the Lord knows I'm to blame

Her heart was broken. She didnÕt know what to say. She opened her mouth, but no words came out. ÒIÕm sorry.Ó He said. ÒI gotta keep goinÕ, but I will keep in touch with you, okay?Ó She couldnÕt handle it. She was about to break down and cry. She started sobbing. To comfort her, he kissed her again. Her eyes closed and she felt a little better. He separated from her and said, ÒI gotta do this.Ó She was on the verge of crying.

But, if I stayed here with you girl,

Things just couldn't be the same.

Cause I'm as free as a bird now,

And this bird you cannot change.

But she didnÕt. She understood exactly what he meant: he couldnÕt settle down until his journey was done, and that would take a while, and her sisters were not back yet, so she had no other choice. But she still wanted to see him, so she asked, ÒWell if you must do this, you have to come visit me often enough.Ó

ÒAnd you should come se me as well, since I just canÕt drop everything just to come visit you.Ó He replied. She understood it.

ÒOkay, then,Ó She replied. ÒBut still, please promise youÕll come visit me?Ó

ÒI promise.Ó He said. ÒAnd youÕd better promise youÕll visit me, too.Ó He noted. She nodded her head and stated,

ÒAgreed.Ó She closed her eyes and moved her head towards his. He closed his eyes to, and did the same. Their lips met in the middle.

OhÉOh...OhÉ OhÉOhÉ.

And this bird you cannot change.

And this bird you cannot change.

Lord knows, I can't change.

Lord help me, I can't cha-ay-ay-ay-ay-ay-ay-ay-ay-nge.

After a few minutes, they separated. They looked into each otherÕs eye and said at the same time, ÒI love youÓ and embraced again. Misty was upset, but happy anyways because she could have a relationship with Ash, albeit a long-distance one. She accepted the situation. Just then-

ÒWay to go, Ketchum!Ó The sudden noise jerked them out of their private little universe. Ash quickly turned his head around faster than you can say ÒoutÓ.

ÒWho said that!?Ó He yelled. He found where the intruder was hiding when he saw some bushes rattling. He picked up a small rock and threw it at the bushes. It hit someoneÕs head.

ÒOw! WhatÕd you do that for, huh!?Ó It was (guess who) Gary.

ÒGary!? What the hell are you doing here!?Ó Ash yelled at him.

ÒI saw you and Misty takinÕ a walk so I decided to follow ya. Looks like I got my moneyÕs worth!Ó

ÒThanum an Dhul, canÕt we have some alone time!? Wait, YOU WERE SPYING ON US THE WHOLE TIME!?Ó He yelled, completely furious that his little date with Misty was being interrupted.

ÒYeah, and I got my moneyÕs worth!Ó Said Gary. Ash was 3 seconds away from pounding the crap out of Gary, when Misty, equally mad, whacked him with her trusty mallet.

ÒThat oughta teach you not to interrupt a romantic outing!Ó She scolded. She returned to AshÕs side and linked her arm around his other arm, saying, ÒShall we go now?Ó

ÒAfter you.Ó He said, his arm motioning forward. As they walked by, Ash shook his head at the moaning heap hat was Gary Oak as the two walked back to AshÕs house.

Lord I Can't Change,

Won't You Fly High Free Bird Yea.

Alright, howÕd evÕrybody like it? If youÕre wondering about that comedic section at the end, I could not resist. I did not want it to be a sappy romance-even though it was pretty romantic-all the way through, so I put some humor in there. Please send me a blasted review! And give me a review for ÒAsh Ketchum: SupermanÓ, too. I have no idea what you people think about it, so I need some blasted feedback.
