Chapter2: The perfect friendship

<Come on Richard get up!>

Richard opened his eyes to his pokemon companion sitting on top of him. It had been four years sense his hatching and he was now at his full charmander height.

<You sleep too much come on!> Flames started to grow in the char’s mouth, his new found attack, EMBER. Richard picked the char off of him and rolled out of bed. "What time is it," asked the now fifteenteen year old. <Eight and we’re supposed to be gone already.> "Chill out Flare, you’ll get to see her soon enough."

After a quick shower Richard got on his blue jean pants and through his shirt over his shoulder. He was a moderately built teen now, the only thing he did better than training Flare was weight lifting. Everyone in Fire Town knew him, especially the girls, he was your typical boy next door. He picked up his backpack off his bed, put an envelope in it, and walked out of his room. Now that it was summer, and he was out of school, he could go on his journey. He had to find out what was inside of him. He walked into the kitchen and saw the char parents searching for food.

<So you’re awake,> the big male said as he reached in the fridge for a soda. Richard only nodded and went over to the female. He was taller than she was now, almost as tall as the male. "How are you holding up?" <Good I guess.> she said with a smile. Richard patted her on the back, she was going to lay very soon. <Are you eating before you go?> the male asked. "No I’m meeting some one and then we’ll eat." <Is it that girl?> Richard turned and starred at the char. "Yes, so what?" <So when are you two going to mate?> "What! She’s just a friend." <Yea right, anyway good luck on finding your powers.> "Thanks." Richard walked out of the house when he realized he had forgotten something. "FLARE!"

Richard looked up at the huge white house. He had been there so many times and it still amazed him. Most of the people in the town were hard working blue-collar people. These people were rich white-collar business types. He rang the doorbell, but after a few minuets nothing happened.

"Hay!" a voice called out. Richard turned to the voice, It was a girl about his age. She was a brunet, she was wearing a gray tank top and a pair of bellbottom blue jeans. She had on gray stacked shoes so she came up to his height. In reality she was only about two inches shorter than he was.

"Ashley," yelled the now very happy teen. They hugged like they hadn’t seen each other in years school had only been out for two weeks. "I was waiting for you for the longest," she said with a huge smile, "where were you?" Richard looked at the ground and cleared his throat. "I…ah…overslept. Sorry." "That’s okay," she said kissing him on the cheek, "I’m not mad."

Flare giggled at the two humans, but then his attention, along with his tail, was pulled away by Alexandra (I’ll call her Alex) Ashley’s "playful" charmander. Flare cooed, he loved seeing Alex, he liked her a lot. Flare lunged at Alex, but she dogged keeping her hold on his tail.

"So when are we going to go," Richard asked a little anxious to find out about his powers. "Alright," she said with a sigh, "but first let me see your eyes." Richard sighed and took off the dark sunglasses he always wore. Ashley looked into his big red eyes she loved them. "Why do you wear those things?" She asked. Richard hung his head. "They make me look like a freak." Ashley lifted his chin with her hand and smiled at him. "I love them it makes you look innocent." He smiled at her and put his shades back on. "Thanks" They kissed and walked to get their pokemon, who were chasing each other.

"Hay Flare," Richard called out, "you chase her like you like her or something." Flare stopped and looked at his trainer strange. This gave Alex time to run over and tackle Flare, which wasn’t too bad by the male’s thoughts. "Okay, that’s enough you two," yelled Ashley as she picked up a squirming Alex off of Flare. Flare looked up meanly at the two humans. <You two get to have fun, why not us?> Richard only folded his arms and looked down at his monster. "Because we’re older end of discussion," Richard said in a tone that Flare hated. The charmander kicked up dirt and pouted. Richard rolled his eyes and picked up the lizard. He put him on his back and Ashley did likewise to Alex. "There are you happy now, you can see each other." <Yea!> The two chars cheered. Ashley sighed, "You two are too young to like each other." <We’re older than you two in char years.> Alex piped in the fanciest voice she could find.

They walked out of town, it was only a days walk to Achieva City where they could buy all the supplies they needed. Ashley looked over at Richard with a smile. "You really don’t need those, I never wear mine." Richard looked into her big blue eyes. He wondered how she could be so secure with them. In school she was always teased about them. He wasn’t because all the girls liked his body. But he guessed that’s how they found each other, two "freaks" bound to find what was truly in them. He sighed, took off the shades, and tossed them back on the dirt road.

Not really a major twist, but it seems that Ashley is in the same boat as Richard? Can they still be friends once they truly find out about them selves. Well you’ll just have to read on to find out. Hay and if you like the story e-mail me at Coug785005@cs.com BigRai
