Chapter 7: Rocket Love

"What’s up?"

Volt looked up from her stool to see a sandshrew. She had decided to go to the Rocket Pokemon Lounge on the east side of the Rocket complex to clear her head. It was a fairly large building, a place where the pokemon could rest away from the humans.

"Slash!" She yelled as she jumped into his arms.

They kissed passionately, as the other monsters around them cheered and clapped. Tears ran down Volt’s cheek as she broke her kiss. She wiped away some tears and licked his face.

"I thought I would never see you again." She said looking him up and down.

"I almost didn’t make it." He said rubbing the visible stomach scar he now bore.

Volt ran her paw into the deep scar almost breaking down. She remembered the day she had gotten the news that he had been almost sliced in half by a syther. His master didn’t even know if he would make it or not. She had cried all day fearing the worst.

"Volt, I…"

Volt looked up at him the tears starting to show again. Slash noticed and decided to lighten the mood, this was supposed to be a happy reunion.

"Come on," he said as he took her paw and led her out side.

They decided to just take a walk, to catch up.

"So how is Paul doing?"

"Not good. Soon I’ll be off looking for the kid again."

"He still doesn’t get it?"

"No, his anger is going to get someone killed. Death is not the answer."

"I know, I’ve seen too much of it."

Volt nodded as they rounded the apartment buildings.

"Its just…I don’t want to go" Volt said hanging her head.

"Why? You know he needs you."

"I know, but…I want to be with you."

Slash smiled and gave her a lick on her cheek. Volt forced a smile and grabbed his claws tightly. Slash looked down at her his mind drawing back to when he was in the hospital, clinging to life. He guessed the only thing that kept him going was that he promised to return to her. He hated what he did, if he didn’t have Volt he probably would have given up on life.

"Slash…could we?"

Slash stopped and sighed.

"Volt, you know we can’t. This is no place to raise a kit. What if something were to happen to one of us, or even both of us."

"But I love you"

"And I you, but this is neither the time nor the place. One day Volt, one day all of this will be over and we will truly become one. Until then we will have to wait."

"And if it never ends?"

"Then know that I always have and always will love you, and you would have made one hell of a mother."

They found a spot and laid down under the sun. Slash held the raichu close taking in her sent. He had come back to her, hopefully for good now. But neither knew if this would last. One day one of their masters could be on another assignment and they would be apart. It must be the gods’ will that they were together, any other relationship would have ended long ago. Suddenly they herd a cracking sound and then a voice. It was coming from the PA system installed all through out the complex.

"Volt. Pokemon of Paul Johnson, please report to the briefing room imedently."

"No," Volt said under her breath as she started to cry.

Slash held her close as she collapsed in to his arms crying uncontrollably.

"Go," he said the pain in his heart becoming too much to bear.

But Volt wouldn’t let go, she had just got to see him. Didn’t these humans care about them? Why did she have to leave him now?

Later that night they said their tearful good buys as Paul waited in his car.

"I’ll come back I promise."

"I’ll be here."

Slash waved as they drove off.
