A Brief Moment in Time

Part 15

His eyes narrowed at the woman, then grew in realization. “Misty?”

Tears started to gently flow down her cheeks. She nods.

“Ash... I... I haven’t seen you in so long... I’ve missed you so much...” she closes her eyes. “Ash, I’m so sorry that I couldn’t-”

“Enough!” I yell. “Madam I am not here for your reunion! And he is not your Ash!” I was afraid that she might manipulate him someway. I need to at least try to keep him safe.

“Rose... please... I need th-”

“No you don’t!” I cover Ash’s image by blocking him with mine. “You had years to get over his death! And it’s obvious what you did to mourn.”

Her hand automatically covers the other’s wrist.

“He shouldn’t have be so thickheaded! If he had listened to me and not gone to-” she stops herself, now sobbing. “He should be alive!”

Her sobs grew with the intensity of her voice. “I wish more than anything that he was alive!”

“Mrs. Ketchum.” a deep voice resounds throughout the large office.

My eyes grew in realization. He’s in here!

“I’m afraid that your position has been filled with a person more... qualified, with the position. I sorry to say that you have been terminated.”

An arm rises from the shadows, holding a pistol.

BANG!

I did not see the bullet, but it had penetrated her deep in the stomach.

Ash and I rush to her side. Sorrow fills my heart as I look at her pained face. She had been my... friend... regardless of what I thought she was.

She looks at me. “Rose... I... I’m so sorry...” she looks at Ash. She puts a hand on his cheek.

“Ash... I want to let you know... I never stopped loving you... ever...” And with that sentence she spoke her last breath.

“Oh give me a break!”

I turn abruptly at the monster that murdered her. Anger filling every fiber in me.

“How could you?!”

“What? Shoot her? Well considering my reputation it was easy.” He laughs loudly at his ‘joke’. “Oh, Professor Rose. I don’t suppose you’re willing to take a job as my top Executive? Mine just left, saying that working with me was killing her!” He roars in laughter again.

“You... you monster.” Ash finally found his voice.

“Monster? We’ll I’ve been called worst by you Ketchum.” He steps out into the light.

Ash eyes widen in terror.

“Now you can come up with a better name than that. I know for a fact.” His lips grow into an evil grin.

“Gary!”

“Why yes it is. But I haven’t been called that in a long time. I prefer Master, or Your Excellency, Your Grace, etcetera.” His smile disappears.

“But even after you were dead you were the only one people could talk about. The most accomplished Master. Unbeatable they said. Everyone loved you, and they still do.” A growl started to grow with his voice.

“Why couldn’t you stay dead!!” He raises the gun once more but at Ash this time.

“NO!” I shout.

A bright light flashed throughout the room, lighting the area.

The bullet dropped in midair.

The gun fell to the floor. Gary’s face was white either with terror or from the light that had suddenly appeared.

“Celebi.”

I turn and see Celebi floating next to me.

The next second, nothing.
