Part 24

“I choose you!” A red beam shoots out from the ball onto the ground in front of me. “Mewtwo!”

An image of Mewtwo appears from the red beam and he materializes. Deep sadness fills my heart at the sight of him. A Pokemon that was meant to be free, captured. His arms and chest were protected with body armor, but his face... his face was hard... and cruel. He had been Gary’s Pokemon for too long, and it showed.

“Mewtwo! Psychic Attack! Now!”

A blue ball of energy quickly forms in between his paws and the shoots the ball out at me. But it was too late. I was gone.

“Faint Attack.”

Gary’s face scrunches in rage. “Mewtwo! Find her now!” But the call came too late. I was already hitting Mewtwo, hard.

“Beat Up.” I state. I appear again after I’m done.

Mewtwo staggers but stayed upright.

“Mewtwo! Use Confusion!” A beam of ripples hits me, fazing me for a moment. I jump back with Crunch. I bite Mewtwo’s unprotected hand, my teeth sinking in deeply. Mewtwo falls onto his knees in exhaustion.

“You stupid Mewtwo! You never do anything right! Mewtwo return!”

“Pursuit.” I utter. And I started to hit Mewtwo again, blocking the beam to recall it. Mewtwo faints from the powerful attack and lays there, helpless.

Gary growls at me when I step back from Mewtwo. “Return Mewtwo!” And this time the beam finds the Pokemon and recalls him into it.

A deep scowl appears from his face. “No one has ever beaten Mewtwo before.”

I nod. “Yes, I know.” I know too well of his battles.

He clips Mewtwo’s ball back onto his belt and picks another black and silver ball. He extends his arm and throws it.

“I choose you! Lugia!” The ball releases a red beam and Lugia materializes from it. My heart sinks again. “Lugia, Aeroblast!”

He starts to flap his wings increasingly harder. If I stayed on top of the building I would be blown off. I wrap my Psychic ability around my self and I lift to the air. The wind distracts me slightly but I keep my concentration and I stay floating in the air.

“Rain dance.” I say. Clouds start to form overhead, blocking out the sunrays. It grows increasingly dark.

“Wrong move Thorn!” I look down to the ceiling of the Radio Tower. Gary with a wide smirk on his face, his arms crossed. “You should know which abilities not to use by now! Lugia, Hydro Pump!” Lugia started to build up power, his eyes glowed pink.

I shake my head at Gary. I knew he would try to use my attack against me, to make his attack more powerful, too bad he didn’t think.

The water suddenly blasts out from Lugia’s open mouth. I sharply turn to dodge it and it misses me.

“And I thought you would know better Gary. Not only does it take time to use Hydro Pump, it has low accuracy. And while you thought I made a mistake, I was doing an attack that would power up my next attack.”

I turn back at Lugia, his eyes were no longer the color of the sea. They were gray and unfeeling. “I’m sorry my friend.” I whisper.

“Now! Thunder Storm!” I yell. In that instant there was a clap of thunder. The storm was growing.

“Thunder Storm? There is no such attack!” bellows Gary from the rooftop.

“Just because you never heard of it doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.” I say back to him. “It’s a special move that powers up electric attacks. Especially Thunder. And with Lugia being part Flying, it increases the attack power even more when it strikes him.”

His eyes grow wide, but before he could issue a command a thick bolt of lightning strikes Lugia in midair. He roars in pain, rapidly plummeting to the ground.

“Lugia! Return!” Before he hits the ground Lugia is recalled back into the black and silver Pokeball. Deep regret fills me. How could I have done that to my friends?

I shake my head. They were not my friends. You saw them, their eyes, you knew they had been in Gary’s grasp for too long. Those Pokemon had lost hope for some time now.

No, they were not my friends at all.

I look back at Gary, who’s attitude had changed from deep anger to smugness. What do you have up your sleeve Gary? I think to myself.

He starts to clap at me, mockingly. “Bravo Thorn, bravo. You have just succeeded in fainting my unbeatable Pokemon, and in the process, taught me about Thunder Storm.” His grin widens. “And you’ll be happy to know that I only have one Pokemon left.” he pauses. “But this one, I guarantee, you will not beat.” His hand unclips the last black and silver Pokeball.

“I have to disagree with you Gary, because at the end of this, I will destroy you.”

His smile widens even more. “Not today Thorn.” He throws the ball with all of his might. “Go! Pokeball! I choose you!”
