Rose signing on.

No I don’t own Pokemon, so stop asking me! I only own Professor Thorn and her Pokemon’s nicknames. So stop hounding me already!

A Brief Moment in Time

Part 3

How long have I been asleep? Who knows? Even though I was awake, I didn’t want to be. I wanted to be dead. But with my luck, that probably won’t happen.

“Ash! I can’t believe you want her to stay!” A female voice said in a hush… Misty…

“Well what else can we do? We can’t leave her out here in the forest by herself. Not with that huge knot on her head.”

“But she acts like she knows us! How could she without following us, hmm? She’s a member of Team Rocket!”

I hear a rustle of clothes. “I’m not sure on that part. She could have amnesia?” Master Ketchum suggested. I sat up in the sleeping bag that I was put in.

“I don’t think that’s it Ash.” Said another voice, Brock. “She didn’t seem to be acting, that’s for sure. It was like she absolutely knew who you two were.”

“But that’s just it! We don't know who she is and you want her to travel with us just because she called you 'Master Ketchum'!”

There was a silence... I saw Master Ketchum blushing at that last comment. I stifled a giggle. I never thought of him as a regular boy. He was always... well... just my favorite picture on the wall.

"That's not it at all... she just seems like she needs help. And friends."

"Well I'LL definitely be her 'friend'!" Said Brock.

I heard a soft sigh. “We all know you will Brock.” Said Misty.

They don’t trust me… I don’t blame them though. I’m always suspicious of everyone it seems like.

“Oh! You’re up!” I looked up and saw Brock stumble to my side. “How’s your head? Does it hurt?”

I shook my head, then wince. “Only when I do that.”

He gives a laugh, “Well that’s a good sign. By the way, what’s your name miss?”

“My name is Rose, Rose Thorn.”

“What a beautiful name! Perfect for a beautiful woman!”

I sigh deeply. Why wasn’t this is the stories? I turn in my seat to see Master Ketchum. “I apologize for scaring you earlier. It is my fault.”

“Don’t worry about it. We’re just glad that you are alright.”

I get up from the sleeping bag and sit on a log that was close to the fire. “I just don’t know what to do…”

“About what?” I give a small smile. Brock had sat right next to me.

“About how I’m going to go home, if I can.”

“Well where do you live? We can help you get home.” Stated Ash. Pikachu climbed into my lap and looked at me.

I shook my head again, this time bearing the pain. “No, that’s not what I meant. It’s… it’s hard to explain.” I close my eyes. “If I told you, you will not believe me.”

“Tell us anyway. I promise, I’ll believe you.”

I sigh deeply. I can only tell them so much. “Yes, I am a member of Team Rocket.”

They all look at me with wide eyes.

“But I didn’t join by choice.” If I told them, I will not be able to undo it. But I have to chance it. I once again close my eyes. Reaching for the memories that I have always wanted to forget.

I was only thirteen when I was taken from my Mother. They threatened to kill her if I didn’t come with them to be evaluated. I loved my mother too much to ever even risk her life. I rather sacrifice my life for hers if I could have.

This ‘evaluation’ was actually just torture. If we could bear the pain, the misery, and the loneliness, then we will be recruited to become Team Rocket Grunts. Only a few young teens from my town actually lived to become Team Rocket members. But we were separated into different fields to learn what they needed us to.

I was lucky enough to be put in the field of Pokemon research and hunting under a Professor that never even wanted to harm Pokemon. He always loved Pokemon, until the very end of my training. But they suspected that he was soft and had hidden Pokemon from electrocution. Which he did, as often as he could without making anyone suspicious. He had even given me some Pokemon that he said was even rare in his time. He tried to be careful. But… they had found out.

Someone had told them about his secret operations. I have yet to find out whom.

But that day… that day they killed him…

She had ordered his termination immediately. He was hunted and killed right in front of me.

That same day I took his position as Professor, Professor Thorn.

Not wanting to make the same mistakes he did, I often tried to suck up at my boss, out of fear that she would soon find out that I was doing the exact same things as the previous Professor had done. I soon became known as one of her most loyal subjects, but I was never her friend.

I had some idea of what made her cold, dark, and black. But I never found out for certain.

I had lied about the last part. I did know what had changed her so much. They don’t need to know, at least, not now.

“As you can see, it’s not my fault that I’m a Team Rocket member. I can’t change it.”

“Has Team Rocket become that powerful?!” exclaimed Ash.

“Not yet. They will be.”

Ash gives me a puzzled look. “What do you mean?”

“I can’t tell you that yet Mas-I mean Ash. Because I need your help.”

“With what?”

“You need to teach me everything. How to catch Pokemon, how to train them, and how to battle with them.” Maybe, just maybe, I can save my future.

He gives me an uncertain look. “I don’t know Rose, that’s a lot to learn.”

“And he definitely not the right person to ask.” Adds Misty.

“I’ll chance it.” I look back at Ash, my eyes pleading with him. “Please Ash?”

“I don’t know-”

“I’ll give you one of my eggs.”

“Eggs?”

“Yea! Pokemon Eggs. I don’t have very many, but believe me, you want one.”

“What Pokemon is it?”

I smile widely. “Let’s just say you haven’t seen one like it.”

He holds out his gloved hand for mine. “Deal!”

I take his hand. He has accepted me as a friend! “Deal.”
