Disclaimer: I don’t own pokemon….

Gary walked around the camp’s perimeter one last time. He was satisfied. From a distance, the camp looked like it could be easily overrun. But the whole thing was a façade; close up the meticulous care in the defenses, subtle though they may be, were clearly seen.

The tents had been arranged in a square, but in such a position so that the camp was mazelike. The men all looked like they were lazing around, but in reality each one had a pokemon and a gun close at hand. The pokemon themselves had helped lay traps.

Using a common practice of the Rockets that used to chase Ash around, holes had been dug and covered. There was a difference though, the traps laid now were more cunningly disguised, and deadly. Several other things had been done to the camp and the area around it. If the men held their own, the Blue Dragon wouldn’t stand a chance.

Now completely satisfied, the auburn-haired trainer walked back into the camp. He and Sabrina wouldn’t leave until the enemy was nearly upon them, so he wanted to be ready. Checking that he had his poke balls, gun, and various other weaponry and supplies, Gary ran over the plan .

Teleport in, get captives, teleport them to Saffron, teleport myself to near the battlefield, run in on Arcanine, that’ll be the cue to fall back, psychics in Saffron will begin teleportation of army, teleport myself out of there.

The plan was simple and clear. He only hoped Alakazam was powerful enough to handle that much teleporting. Gary had said he was, but secretly, he was a little nervous.

Scowling, Gary shoved the thoughts into the back of his mind. There was nothing to be done now. It was too late to change the plans. Either Alakazam was strong enough, or he wasn’t. If he wasn’t, Gary would improvise.

By that time, Gary had reached Sabrina. The psychic was near the center of the camp, meditating. Gary wasn’t a psychic, but even he could see the power radiating off of the gym leader. He shivered slightly, what would it be like to have that much power. What would he do with it?

His speculation was broken short by a sentry running into camp. The sentry stopped before him and took off her helmet. It was Misty.

“Gary,” she gasped, “The Blue Dragon is nearly here. Within 5 minutes they’ll descend one the first line of booby traps. Now would be a good time to get to the fortress.”

Gary nodded and Misty turned to run off, but he grabbed her hand. “Good luck Misty, I love you.”

She gave him a small smile and answered back, “I love you too. Good luck and Mew’s speed.” With that she ran off to inform the others, leaving Gary to wake up Sabrina and get to the Blue Dragon.

Turning around, he saw that Sabrina was already out of her trance. She gazed up at him with dark eerie eyes, “Ready?” she asked, her voice cool and quiet.

Gary nodded and called out his psychic pokemon. A second later, and the trio were gone in a flash of violet light.

Ash paused to catch his breath. All around him, men and woman were doing the same. There was a brief lull in the fighting. Unconsciously, the two armies had pulled apart, the fighters exhausted. A moment later, the two surged forward again. A tide of blood and blackness; death and destruction.

Ash bellowed out orders to his pokemon and the men under his command. “Thunderbolt the man on the Rapidash, he’s the captain! Steady men, steady! Behind you Jones!” and so on and so forth.

However, despite his seeming confidence, something was whispering in the back of his mind. There were too few enemies. The booby traps had worked well, but not well enough for there to be these few men.

His thoughts were interrupted when a series of pin missiles struck his right arm; paralyzing it. Yelling in pain, he stumbled backward and fell into the bloody dirt. For a moment he blacked out, but quickly resurfaced to consciousness and found himself staring into the grinning maw of a Charizard. When the fire dragon saw he was awake, it’s grin deepened, revealing row upon row of glistening teeth.

‘Don’t kill me!” Ash yelled at it, throwing his arms over his face in a vain attempt to stop the vicious flames he was sure would envelop him.

Nothing happened.

Cautiously the dark haired young man lowered his arms and looked over the Charizard carefully. It looked pleased but puzzled. Slowly, and idea came to Ash’s mind.

“Charizard?” he breathed, “Is that you?”

The pokemon gave him a look that screamed ’Duh, you dense human” and snorted.

“It is you!” Ash was exuberant and threw his arms around his faithful pokemon’s neck, completely forgetting about the battle that was raging around him. “Pikachu!” Ash called, “it’s Charizard.”

No answer.

“Pikachu?” Ash called again his voice nervous.

Still nothing.

“PIKACHU!”

Charizard nudged his former trainer and pointed his tail to where a small yellow body lay.

“Pikachu!” Ash was alarmed, he rushed over to his comrade who had fallen off his shoulder after Ash was attacked. Cradling the body, Ash was relieved to be feebly shocked by the mouse.

“Pii?” he asked.

“You’re okay! No worries Pikachu, Charizard’s here, he can help.”

So relieved was Ash that Pikachu was still alive, he didn’t notice the man sneak up behind him, a gun in his hand.

Charizard did, however.

“CHAAAAAR!” The man was fried to a crisp.

Startled, Ash looked over at Charizard and then deep-fried body. “Did you do that?”

His answer was a satisfied snort.

“Uhh, great…” now ignoring the body, Ash remembered where he was and what he was supposed to be doing. “Mind if we go for a ride?” he asked, looking pointedly at the lizard’s back.

“Char,’ replied the Charizar, his equivalent of ‘Sure, hop on.”

Doing just that, the human, the Pikachu, and the Charizard soared upwards. They gave aid to those that needed it, and relayed orders in a much more practicable way. Soon enough, the tide was turned and the survivor’s of the Blue Dargon army were rounded and put in chains.

A small voice still whispered in the back of Ash’s mind. ‘Too few, there’s just too few..’
