I do not own pokemon, Ash, Misty, Brock or "The Summer of '69" by Bryan Adams. "I got my first real six-string Bought it at the five-and-dime Played it till my fingers bled It was the summer of '69" It was a hot summer day, the sun beating down heavily from the clear, blue sky. The ground was burning, as the humidity soaked into the air. There was no breeze today, and The rays of the sun seemed to be frying everything that dared step under it. And here Ash, Misty, Brock and Dawn made their way off the S.S. Marie and onto the eight mile long island. "Wow. This place is beautiful, unless the heat is making me hallucinate." Misty said as they walked through the harbor. "Yeah. I can't believe you grew up here." Brock agreed. "But it's so damn hot!" "Yeah." Dawn Laughed. "Welcome to Kalo Island." "Speaking of Kalo Island. What does that mean?" Ash asked, laughing. "Glo Island. No one really knows how it got its name." Dawn told him. "Ooohhh." Ash said. "Hey guys, thanks for spending the summer here with me. I promise you'll love it here." Dawn announced. The rest nodded. "I think we all needed a vacation." Brock said. Ash laughed nervously but didn't say anything. "Come on, I'll show you where I live. we have a big house. There are enough beds for everyone." Dawn led them down a cobblestone road line with beautiful houses and stores, and the occasionall booth that sold homegrown food, and souveniers. "Wow. Are you sure its okay with your mom that we can crash there?" Brock asked, wondering how Dawn's Vaporeon could walk on the ground without its feet burning, because Pikachu tried, but jumped back on to Ash's back. "Yeah. She wants to meet you all. We can hang out at my house then when it cools down, at around sunset I'll show you around. This island is like paradise." Dawn said. "That's why the locals are trying to keep this place kind of a secret. Oh, and by the way, most people here call me Kana. That's my Island (Hawaiian name) name." "Really. What's mine?" Brock asked. "I wanna use it." Dawn pondered that for a minute. "Brock is Palokuku. Ash is Aka. And Misty is Miki." They all looked shocked. "Okay, I'll stay with my English name." Brock announced. "Well mine couldn't be more boring." Ash grumbled jokingly. "I kind of like mine. I'll go with it for the summer." Misty told us. "Palokuku...Palokuku..." Brock said quietly. "I gotta remember that." "Yeah, um. People here use a whole lot of Island Slang, as we like to call it, so if you get confused, just tell me. I'll translate. We're almost at my house." Dawn jogged ahead as the rest followed just behind. They ran up a seashell driveway which was ended by a beautiful, tow story, white house. There was a large balcony overlooking the ocean and a few palm trees stood silently on the nice green lawn. "Makuahine, I'm home!" Dawn shouted as she opened the door to the house. They were all relieve to be greeted with air conditioning. Dawn's mother ran down the stairs to hug them all. "Kana! You're home! I haven't seen you in so long." Dawn's Mom said. "Hello. Let me guess, you are Misty, and you're..." She pointed towards Ash, narrowing her eyes. "Ash Ketchum. Pleased to meet you." Ash finished for her. She smiled. "You too. And if you're Ash, you should be Brock. Hello." She clapped her hands together once and smiled. "Hi, how are you?" Brock asked. "I'm great, how are you." "Good." "Mom, can we go put our stuff away. I'll let them pick their rooms. We'll come back down in a little while." And with that, Dawn led them up the wooden stairs. The house was very spacious inside, and was decorated beautifully with hawaiian decorations, like leis, and pretty pictures of the island. "Come on." Dawn was followed by her friends upstairs. "Okay, here's bedroom number one... There are two beds in here. I guess someone will have to share. And this is my room, I guess she put another bed in here. And this is bedroom number-oh. It's an office. Okay, so, I guess we all have to share a room. Misty, since we're both girls, why don't we go in my room. And you two can use the other room." Dawn beckoned for Misty to follow her into her room and the boys walked into room number 1. * * * "This place is beautiful." Ash collapsed on the twin bed and turned his head to look out the window. The waves on the beach were crashing lightly against the shore. He was really glad he was here, especially because Misty was with him. "Yeah." Brock agreed, putting the rest of his stuff away. "We needed a vacation." "And I'm just glad they have air conditioning. "Yeah. We're so lucky we know Dawn. And Misty. If we didn't know her, we probably would have never met Dawn. Wow-look at the view." Ash jumped up and leaned against the window sill. "Whoa. There's a small island out there. Maybe Dawn will take us out there." Brock said dreamily. "And maybe- oh never mind." Ash started. Brock narrowed his eyes. "And what?" "Nothing." "Come on, tell me. Please." Brock looked seroiously at his friend. Pikachu was sprawled out on the bed, flipping through a magazine he couldn't even read. "Allright. It has to do with-uh-Misty." He sighed. Brock stared at him then smiled. "I know. You're thinking this will be the time you finally tell Misty how ya feel 'bout her." Brock figured. He pushed himself off of the window sill and stood up. He continued to look at Ash. "Don't worry. I think she likes you too." * * * "I can't believe you live in such a perfect place." Misty said as she sat down on her bed. Dawn turned the stereo on and looked over at Misty. "Thanks." Dawn said slowly, not wanting to brag. She put her backpack into the closet after she unpacked. She decided to change the subject. "So, are you and Ash gonna get together or something this summer, or are you going to fight and pretend you hate eachother?" Misty shot the snake-eye at Dawn then laughed. "How the hell am I supposed to let him know. He probably hates me 'cause I always yell at him and hit him. I mean, how can he like me after all that?"
