CHAPTER 17
THE CHASE

Back in the Saffron City Train Station, awaiting his train, Kamon was watching the news on TV.  It was talking about the weather, and how some guy was arrested for robbing a 7-11, and another about another actor that had gone into rehab.  Nothing new.  Just then, however, was 'breaking news,' supposedly about a seeing of a rare Pokémon.
"This just in," the news caster started, "the Pokémon Entei has been spotted near Route 1, between Pallet Town and Viridian City…"
"What!?" Kamon exclaimed.  He then remembered seeing Entei while training by himself on evening.  It escaped, but not before Kamon could do some serious damage to it.  "I have got to catch it."
"But…but sir, you are going to miss your train," a man at the ticket window said.
"Screw the train, I'm not missing this opportunity."
Kamon ran out of the train station and down the street, where he immediately sent out his Delibird and flew south-west, back once again to Viridian City and Pallet Town.

"Darn it, where is he?" Kamon said.  He had been searching for fifteen minutes.  No sign of the legendary dog.  All of a sudden, he felt something move by him faster than he had ever felt before; it ran so fast that the wind behind him took several seconds to arrive than the thing did.  "It's him," Kamon said under his breath.  He hopped back onto his Delibird, and took off after Entei.
Entei was dashing through the town at top speed, sprinting and weaving in and out of people.  Kamon simply flew over him on the account that he doubted that his Delibird could be that agile.
"Come on, Delibird," Kamon said, "keep up with him.  We can't afford to lose him now."  Delibird was trying to keep pace with Entei, but he got further and further ahead, until he disappeared out of sight.  "Darn it!" Kamon yelled.  He cursed, and then flew to the Cerulean Pokécenter, where he hoped he could catch up to the Pokémon he sought.

"No sign of him yet?" Kamon asked Nurse Joy for somewhere around the hundredth time.
"No, trainer, no sign, still," she responded.  "As I said before, I will tell you, and only you the very second that I get news of his whereabouts, okay?"
"Yeah, sure."  Kamon went and sat down on one of the many blue, plastic, uncomfortable seats they had.  "So, no new news?"
"NO!!!"
"Okay…"
Kamon walked over to the telephone-television that the Pokécenter had to call Prof. Elm and ask him a very important question.
"Yes, Professor Elm?" Kamon asked as soon as Elm's picture was displayed on the screen.
"Hello, Kamon.  What can I do for you?  It's been a long time," the Professor said.
"Well, I am hot on the search for Entei, and I was wondering if you might have anything that could help me, you know, catch 'em."
"Well, Kamon, and I think you were sort of hinting at this, I do have a Master Ball; a device that will capture any Pokémon."
"Oh, Professor, that would be perfect.  Could you send it to me, please?"
"Of course.  I'll just place it on the transporter, and it should materialize over next to you."
Kamon looked to his left as white electricity zapped air, and turned it into the purple Pokéball.
"Thank you, Professor," Kamon exclaimed.
"Oh, don't mention it," Prof. Elm responded.
"Hey, kid, I think I might have another spotting of him…somewhere around Mt. Silver!" Nurse Joy said.
"Really!?" Kamon exclaimed.
"Yes."
"Are you sure?  You're not joshing me, are you?"
"GET GOING, NOW!!!"
"Oh, er, yes.  Right away."
Kamon flew off on his Delibird back to Viridian City, and then north-west to Silver Cave, where he found several trainers already trying to capture the mystical Pokémon.  He happened to hear one trainer bragging about how:  "My Pokémon are in the high 30's; I'll definitely be able to catch the legendary Entei!"  He heard another person respond:  "Oh, yeah, well my highest level Pokémon is level forty-five.  Entei wouldn't even stand a chance!"  And finally, the remark that got Kamon the most interested, was a nerdy-looking kid saying:  "Entei could beat all of you.  A documentary I saw said that they believe that Entei is shiny.  That makes Entei a lot more powerful than you guys think he is."  No wonder none of my Pokémon could defeat him.  Being legendary, shiny, and a high level all wrapped up into one single Pokémon makes him almost invincible! Kamon thought.
"Most of you are wrong," Kamon said, stepping into the conversation.  "Except for you, the kid with the glasses and acne."
"And who are you?  I doubt that your Pokémon put together could even beat one of mine," one of the guys said.
"Man, this guy looks like he just came outta the sixties.  With the long hair an' stuff.  He probably has tie-die Pokémon," another jeered.
"Really?" Kamon asked.  "You wanna go?  One-on-one; each of you will choose your most powerful Pokémon to fight against two of my mediocre Pokémon.  Then you ask me if you think you'll stand a chance against Entei.  I have fought him before.  I know how he battles, his strengths, his weaknesses."
"Sure, man," the second boy said.  "I'll choose my Hitmonlee!"
"And I'll choose Charizard!" the first kid said.
"Suit yourself.  Corsola, Electa…er…" Kamon started.  He had forgotten that he no longer had his beloved Electric Pokémon.  "I mean, Typhlosion, go!  Typhlosion, attack Hitmonlee with a Flamethrower!  Corsola, attack Charizard with Rock Slide!"
"Charizard, Double-Team attack, and then an Iron Tail!"
"Hitmonlee, Detect and then a Triple Kick!"  Hitmonlee started kicking at Typhlosion as fast as he could, but Typhlosion was using his speed to dodge them.  "Man, it's like hitting air!"  Typhlosion then turned around and blasted Hitmonlee away with a Flamethrower, knocking him out in one hit.  "Whoa, no way, man.  Return, Hitmonlee!"
"Hey, whoever you are," one of the guys said, "no fair using a Corsola against my Charizard!  I demand that you use a different Pokémon!"
"Fine then.  Corsola, return.  Typhlosion, you can attack Charizard with Thunder Punch!"  Typhlosion leaped up into the air and then punched Charizard with an electric shock.
"Ha, Charizard, Rock Slide!" the guy said.  His Charizard (level 45; Hitmonlee was level 36, and Typhlosion was level 76) hurled rocks and boulders at Typhlosion, but missed.
"Typhlosion, take Charizard down with a Seismic Toss!" Kamon yelled.  Typhlosion tried to grab onto Charizard, but he flew up so that he would be out of Typhlosion's reach.  "At least grab onto his tail, Typhlosion!"  Typhlosion jumped up into the air and seized Charizard's tail, and then proceeded in trying to pull him down.  Typhlosion was only able to (barely) hang on to Charizard, and was unable to take him out of the sky.
"Charizard, Dragon Rage, now!" the guy said.  He was very confident that his Charizard could beat a Typhlosion.
"Typhlosion, Take Down attack!"  Typhlosion used its weight to pull Charizard out of the air and then slammed him into the ground, making dirt and dust fly in every direction.  "Now, finish Charizard with a Thunder Punch!" Kamon yelled.  Typhlosion charged at Charizard and punched him in the gut, knocking him out.
"Ack…yikes…no way!  Um…er…Charizard, return," the guy stuttered.  Kamon was just about to recall his Pokémon when out of nowhere Entei leaped over their heads and then proceeded in running through the grass.
"No way am I going to miss this opportunity," Kamon said.  He sent out his Umbreon just barely ahead of Entei and told her to use Mean Look so that he won't escape.  I tried this before, but my Pokémon's levels were too low," Kamon thought.
Entei backed off from Umbreon and turned around to try to escape in the opposite direction only to be confronted by Kamon's Typhlosion.  Entei then blasted a fire ball at Typhlosion, causing an explosion and doing an incredible amount of damage.
"All right, go Golem and use your Earthquake-wait, no, Golem, don't do that.  If you do then you will hurt Typhlosion and Umbreon as well.  So instead use Rock Slide, all right?"  Golem nodded after it came from its captivity.  Golem curled up into a ball and then started spinning around, making stones and boulders fly at Entei.  Entei swiftly dodged them, and then charged up for an attack.
"I…I can't believe it," the nerdy kid stuttered.  "Entei is using the Solarbeam attack!  Remarkable!"  Entei then blasted the beam at Golem, doing an incredible amount of damage.
"All right, Umbreon.  Mud-Slap attack, now!" Kamon said.  Mud flew into Entei's eyes, temporarily blinding him.  Entei roared, and then blasted a humongous fireball at Umbreon, burning her.  "Okay, Corsola, you can go, too," Kamon said.
"No way, man," the guy with the Charizard said, "I want to challenge the great Entei too!  Dodrio and Hypno, come out!"  Entei regained its vision, and then started running at Dodrio.  Dodrio, a Pokémon who believes that it can out-race any Pokémon, tried to use its Agility to dodge Entei's attack.  Entei was much faster and rammed into Dodrio, making it skid across the ground on its side.  "What!?  My…my Dodrio!  Return.  All right, Hypno, use your Smog!"  Greenish smoke came from Hypno's mouth and headed toward Entei, but it just projected flames at the fumes, and disintegrated them.  Entei then apparently used Hyper Beam and knocked out Hypno.  The guy recalled his third Pokémon, and gave up on catching the elusive Pokémon.
"Okay, guys," Kamon started.  "Delibird, come out!  I want you guys to, er, quintuple-team them!"  Kamon flung the last of his Pokéballs into the grass to unleash the rest of his Pokémon.  Delibird squawked as it came out of its captivity.  All five of Kamon's Pokémon started to attack Entei, but it was holding its own against all of them.
Entei then spurted flames out at Delibird, one-hit K.O.  Then Entei started to attack Typhlosion with a Stomp, doing mediocre damage.
"Come on, guys!  Pull together!" Kamon yelled.  "Now, Typhlosion, Thunder Punch, Umbreon, Confuse Ray, Corsola, Surf, and Golem, use Rock Slide!"  The four of his Pokémon used their attacks, damaging Entei severely, almost to the point of knocking him out, and confused him.
Now was his chance.  Kamon pulled out five Ultra Balls, and threw one right after another at Entei.  Every single one failed.
"There's no way…" Kamon said, astonished.  Even though Entei was confused and on the verge of dying, it was by no means going to be captured.  Kamon then had no choice.  He had to use his secret weapon.  "I was hoping I could use this for something else, but I have no choice.  It's now, or never."  Kamon withdrew all of his Pokémon, and then pulled a purple and pink Pokéball from his backpack.  It was a Master Ball.
Kamon hurled the Master Ball at Entei, and watched as the red light swallowed it; Entei was sucked up into the ball, and the prized, shining Pokémon was finally his.  Thanks, Prof. Elm, Kamon thought.  Kamon went to the Silver Cave Pokémon Center, healed his party, and then trekked back up to the summit, where he would challenge Drew once again.
