CHAPTER 5
1ST KANTO GYM BATTLE: SABRINA'S PSYCHIC POWERS

Kamon woke up in the hospital the next morning.  He was questioned on what happened when the train derailed, what he remembers, and other assorted questions.  He was then cleared to leave.  He was greeted by his mother, who was in tears.  He also saw that Falkner, Prof. Elm, and Lance were standing there.  After Kamon assured his mother that everything was All right, he left to Saffron Gym.  On the way out, however, he was stopped by a girl in a red outfit with long, black hair.
"…You lived," she said.
"Pardon?" Kamon asked.
"115 people were on that train, and seven lived.  I saved them, Kamon."
"How do you know my name?"  Kamon gritted his teeth.
"I am sorry.  Allow me to introduce myself.  I am Sabrina of the Saffron City Gym," Sabrina responded.
"I don't care who you are…wait…you are the gym leader here?" Kamon said.
"Yes.  You see, Kamon, I have Psychic powers. I can predict when things can happen.  I saved as many people as I could."
"How?" Kamon asked.
Sabrina responded, "I teleported them away for a second, and then re-teleported them at the site of the crash."
"But," Kamon said, confused, "why me?"
"Because one year ago today I had a prediction that you would come here, and challenge me.  I knew that you had great strength, Kamon, and-"  She was cut off by Kamon.
"So you saved me, but not all of those people.  Is that it?"  Kamon grew tense again.
"…Yes, Kamon," She responded.
"Why?" Kamon asked.
"I transported as many people as I could," Sabrina said.
"That were worthy enough?" Kamon questioned again.
"Partially…people who had not tainted their lives with evil, I rescued."
"What do you mean?" Kamon asked again.
"One lady stole six hundred credits from an old man.  Another had tried killing his girlfriend after thry broke up.  Others…"  Her voice trailed off.
"I don't want to know what the others did.  So…there was a reason that you wanted to save me…and the six other people…"
"Yes," Sabrina said.
"But then how were we hurt?" Kamon asked.  Sabrina smiled.
"I saved you from the actual impact, from dying.  If you had lived, untouched, that would arouse suspicion.  You were hurt because you were only gone for a second, and then you were back, as your room collapsed on top of you.  Your slit leg…it will heal.  The scar on your face…will be there for life."  Kamon touched both wounds, his bandaged leg and face.
"I woke up a half an hour after the crash, not one second," Kamon responded.
"Your room collapsing on top of you kncoked you out.  Any more questions?" Sabrina asked.
Kamon smiled.  "When can we battle?"

* * *

Kamon stood on the side of the arena opposite Sabrina.  They had agreed on a four-on-four match.  Sabrina told Kamon to choose first.
"Psychic power, huh?  Umbreon, go!"
"Uh-oh.  Hmm…Golduck, go!  Ice Beam!"  Sabrina said.  The blue duck shot a small ray of ice at Umbreon, only for her to come back with an attack at Kamon's command.
"Umbreon, Confuse Ray!"  With a flash of light, Golduck became confused.  "Good job.  Now, Double-Edge attack!"  Umbreon charged at Golduck and slammed it into a wall, almost knocking Golduck out but hurting itself, too.
"Golduck, Hydro Pump!"  Golduck blasted water at Umbreon, but missed because Umbreon ducked.
"Good job Umbreon!  Now, attack it with Faint Attack!" Kamon said, pointing his finger at the enemy Pokémon.  Umbreon struck and knocked out Golduck.
"Oh, my precious Golduck…return.  It's your turn, Espeon!"  Kamon was taken back for a second.  Umbreon v.s. Espeon…this should be interesting…he thought.
"Umbreon, Faint Attack!" Kamon commanded.  Umbreon hit Espeon from behind, and then went back to another side of the arena.
"Espeon, use Return, and then Morning Sun," Sabrina said.  Espeon charged at Umbreon, knocking it off its feet.  There was then a glimpse of light over Espeon, and it recovered its health.
"Two can play this game.  Umbreon, Moonlight!" Kamon said.  Moonrays came down, recovering Umbreon.  "Now, Bite!"  Umbreon bit Espeon, making it flinch.  "Great.  Now, Faint Attack!"
"Quickly, Espeon, use Hyper Beam!"  Espeon launched a golden beam of energy at Umbreon, knocking it into the wall, making it faint.
"No…Umbreon, come back.  Although she was my sure-fire way of winning, I can still beat with this Pokémon…Corsola, go!" Kamon yelled, throwing another Ultra Ball into the arena.  The pink rocky Pokémon emerged.  "Corsola…wait until he attacks…" Kamon said, keeping an eye on Sabrina's Espeon.
"Espeon," Sabrina started, "Psychic attack!"
"Corsola, Mirror Coat!"  Espeon's attack was reversed, knocking him out.
"Aack!  You are wise to use Mirror coat, since Psychic Pokémon generally learn only special attacks.  Return, Espeon.  Alakazam!  Go!"  The Pokémon that emerged was holding two spoons, which Kamon found to be odd.  "Alakazam, Thunder Wave!  Your Pokémon can't reverse an attack that doesn't damage you!" Sabrina said, smiling.
"Uh-oh.  Corsola, Protect!" Kamon said.  A star shield went around Corsola, blocking the attack.  "Great.  Now, Rock Slide!"  An avalanche of stones and rocks flew at Alakazam, almost knocking it out due to its low defense.
"Alakazam…Seismic Toss!" Sabrina commanded.  Alakazam lifted Corsola up with his Psychic powers and then made it get thrown into a wall.
"Corsola, finish it with Icy Wind!" Kamon said.  Corsola blew cold ice out of her mouth and knocked out Alakazam.
"Return!  My last Pokémon is Mr. Mime!" Sabrina said, hurling Mr. Mime's red-and-white Pokéball into the stadium.  "Mr. Mime, Thunder Punch it!"  Sparks came from Mr. Mime's fist as it punched Corsola.
"Corsola, Attract!" Kamon said.  It failed, however.  "What happened?  My Corsola is female.  That's a Mr. Mime, right?  Why did it fail?" Kamon asked.
"My Mr. Mime is female also," Sabrina replied.  Kamon was almost speechless.  He glanced at the female Mr. Mime.
"…I'm not going to say anything…Corsola, try Earthquake!"  Corsola struck the ground, making the stadium shake, and Mr. Mime fall to the floor.
"Mr. Mime, Psybeam!"
"Corsola, Mirror Coat!" Kamon yelled.  The rainbow beam bounced off of Corsola and hit Mr. Mime, almost knocking it out.  "Now, Spike Cannon!"  Corsola launched tacks at Mr. Mime, doing a small amount of damage, but knocking it out anyway.  "Yes!  I won!" Kamon said, jumping up into the air.
"Congratulations, Kamon.  Here is your first Kanto Gym Badge, the Marsh Badge," Sabrina said, sticking her hand out, revealing the Marsh Badge.  She made it float over to him and into his hand.
"Thank you, Sabrina," Kamon said.  He recalled Corsola and walked out of the gym.  Man, does it feel good to be doing this again, he thought.
