CHAPTER 6
'SURGE' OF ELECTRICITY

Two days later, Kamon reached Vermillion City.  This was his first time going into Kanto, and he wanted to see all of the sights.  He had already visited Lavender's Radio Tower, and found that it was slightly more advanced than Goldenrod's.  Anyway, he finally found himself face-to-face against
Lt. Surge, Electric Pokémon Master.
"Ha, you ready, kid?" he asked.
"Sure am," Kamon responded.  He unclipped an Ultra Ball from his belt.
"Fine, kid, but I'll tell ya, I'm no pushover.  I'm gonna zap you into oblivion!"  Lt. Surge, a tall man with spikey blonde hair and reflective sunglasses, wearing camofluage, looked like he just came from a war.  Kamon was almost afraid that he was gonna pull out a gun instead of a Pokéball.  "Raichu will start.  Go!"  To Kamon's relief, Lt. Surge threw a Pokéball into the arena, and from it came an orange Pokémon with a long black tail and a yellow lightning bolt at the end of it.
"Golem, go!" Kamon said.  He smiled.  He knew that Golem was a Ground-type Pokémon and therefore no Electric attack to harm him.
"Ha, you don't know how many people make the mistake of sending out a ground Pokémon thinking that they can have an easy win.  Ha!  Raichu, Surf!"  Raichu used his tail as a surfboard while a wave came over him.
"A Surfing Raichu!?" Kamon exclaimed.  Kamon watched in horror as his Golem got washed away.  Well, there goes that plan, Kamon thought.  "Golem, Earthquake!" Kamon commanded.  His rock Pokémon smashed the ground, making it rumble.  Both Pokémon were evenly matched, but Raichu was faster and had Surf.  Things weren't looking good for Kamon.
"Finish it, Raichu.  Ice Punch!" Lt. Surge said.  Raichu punched Golem, and knocked it out.
"Darn it," Kamon said.  "I'll have to fight Electricity with Electricity.  Electabuzz, go!"  Kamon threw the Ultra Ball containing Electabuzz into the stadium, and from the white, glowing light came the yellow-and-black Pokémon.  "Electabuzz, Psychic!"  Electabuzz preformed the Psychic-type technique, and finished off Raichu.
"Raichu, come back.  Hehehe…this one should get you good…Electrode, come out!" Lt. Surge said.  A white-and-red Pokémon came out of the Fast Ball.  At Lt. Surge's command, he used Explosion, knocking out Electabuzz.
"That was rather…pointless.  Electabuzz, come back, and go, Typhlosion!"
"Magneton, come out and strike your opponent with Zap Cannon!"  A huge electric ball zoomed toward Typhlosion, but he dodged it by rolling to the right.  "Uh-oh, Fire v.s. Steel is not a good matchup!  Magneton, return.  Jolteon, go!"  The familiar Eevee evolution emerged from the Pokéball, and used Thunder Wave, paralyzing Typhlosion.
"Typhlosion, Reversal!" Kamon said.  Although Typhlosion was at full HP, Reversal still did a lot because of Jolteon's low Defense.
"Jolteon, Thunder, now!" Lt. Surge commanded.  Ha, a commanding commando, Kamon thought.  This struck him as amusing.
"Typhlosion, another Reversal!" Kamon said.  Typhlosion was unable to move, but finally pulled off another Reversal, knocking out Jolteon.  "Typhlosion, return.  I don't want you to fight while you're paralyzed."
"Good choice, kid.  Jolteon, you did good, return.  Now, trainer, or should I say trainee…ha!"
"Don't mess with me, pal…" Kamon said, teeth clenched.
"Oh, sorry…hahaha!  Yeah, right kid," Lt. Surge said, flexing his muscles.  "Magneton, come back out!"
"I'll take you on after this match, Surge," Kamon said under his breath.  Unfortunatly, Lt. Surge heard him.
"Really? Fine.  I'll take you on in…how about arm wrestling?  It's a harmless compitition."  Lt. Surge flexed his arm muscles again.
"Your choice," Kamon said, smiling.  "Corsola, go!"  Kamon threw the only Pokéball he had kept something else besides an Ultra Ball, the Lure Ball containing Corsola.  Actually, he had kept Delibird's Great Ball because it had 'Happy B-day, Kamon-your friends and family in New Bark' inscribed on it.  Anyway, Corsola was told to use Earthquake, and knocked out Magneton in one hit because it was super-effective.
"I cannot believe this!" Lt. Surge shouted.  He said gloomily, "return, Magneton.  Lanturn, go!"  A blue anglerfish type of Pokémon emerged.  It had a glowing yellow light at the end of its one antennae.  Kamon pulled out his Pokédex.  He was almost certain that Lanturn was a Water-type Pokémon.
"Max, tell me what type of Pokémon Lanturn is."  Max, the Pokédex, said Lanturn.  The light Pokémon.  This Pokémon's light is so bright that it can go in areas that would otherwise be too dark to explore, even for humans.  Lanturn's types are Electric and Water.
"'Max?'  Ha!  Did you name your Pokédex or something?"  The fact was that Kamon had indeed named his Pokédex.  He needed someone that could speak in English to talk to when he was lonely in his year of training.  He thought about naming his Pokédex 'Hal' after the computer from the movie '2001: A Space Odessy,' but he didn't like the idea of a crazy computer.
"Corsola, Earthquake!" Kamon commanded.  Corsola's attack did not do much, but it was enough so that one more and maybe a Spike Cannon would defeat it.
"Lanturn…Rain Dance!  Power up your Water techniques while making Thunder 100% accurate!"
"Good combo," Kamon commented.  "Corsola…you know what to do…"
"Lanturn, now!  Thunder!" Lt. Surge yelled.  Lightning came from the stormy roof, and almost struck Corsola, which would have surely been a one-hit K.O.
"Do it, Corsola, now!" Kamon said.  Corsola created a sliver shimmering shield around itself, and then launched it at Lanturn, a one-hit knock-out.
"I really can't believe this," Lt. Surge said.  "…Lanturn…come back.  As my last Pokémon…Electrode is coming out!"  Another Electrode emerged from the Pokéball, but this one didn't self-destruct.  It just sat there.
"Corsola, Hydro Pump!"
"Beat him at his own game…Electrode, Mirror Coat!"
"Wha-what!" Kamon exclaimed.  Electrode copied Corsola's attack, and almost made her faint.  "Corsola, Rock Slide!"  Corsola sent rocks flying at Electrode, brining it down to half health.
"Not good enough, kid.  Electrode, Swift!"  Stars were shot at Corsola, kncoking it out.
"Corsola, come back.  Delibird, go!  Present to finish it!"  Delibird threw a glowing package at Electrode, and, with an explosion, Lt. Surge's last Pokémon fell.
"No way!!" Lt. Surge exclaimed, glasses falling off.  He covered his eyes so that no-one could see what his eyes looked like.  Must be a thing about his reputation, Kamon thought.  Lt. Surge put his sunglasses back on.
"Give me the badge, Surge," Kamon demanded.  "And, oh yeah, why are you wearing sunglasses inside?"  Lt. Surge thought about this for a second before responding.
"None of your buisness, kid, why I wear sunglasses inside," he responded.
"Oh…okay…"
"And anyway, you are not getting the Thunder Badge until we arm wrestle."
"What!  Fine," Kamon said.
They walked over to a table.  They clamped their hands together and started the match.  At first, Kamon was sorta just relaxing his arm, until Surge started to win.  All of a sudden, Kamon used his full body strength to slam Lt. Surge's hand onto the table, breaking the table in half.  Surge's glasses fell off again.  He was so stunned by this, he didn't even bother to put them back on.
       "Uh…wow…ow…my hand hurts…" Surge said.
"Not only did I train my Pokémon for a year, but I trained myself, too.  I worked out eight hours a week," Kamon said.
"Oh.  Well, uh, here's the badge," Surge said, rubbing his hand.  Kamon smiled at his victory, both of them, and then walked out of the gym and to the next city and the next gym.
