Chapter 12
Memories of the Past & Plans for the Future

Drew looked at the plaque on his wall the Kamon had given him.  It read, "Drew Anderson: Pokémon Master of Johto, Gehta, and the Orange Islands.  From Kamon and Jasmine.  PS: (from Kamon) I'm still better than you in Kanto."
Drew smiled, but at the same time, he shed a tear.  Kamon had been dead for three years.  Drew missed him.   He thought of the last time he saw Kamon-on Giovanni's shuttle, when he Teleported off.
He thought about how things would be different now, had Kamon still been alive.  Kamon would still be a Gym Leader, and Drew would still be the Champion of the Elite Four…
Which got Drew thinking of the other consequences.  If he was still the Champion in Johto, he wouldn't have left to go to Hoenn.  And then Andrew and Julia wouldn't be battling here.
"So everything hasn't completely turned out bad," Drew said to himself.
As Drew was walking back to his family room, the phone rang.  Carly beat him to it.
"Hello?" she said.  She nodded.  "Yes…okay.  Sure.  All right, bye."
"Well…?" Drew asked.
"It was Jasmine.  She wants us to go over to her house."
"In Olivine?"
"Yes."
"In Johto."
"Yes."
Drew sighed.  "All right, let's get going."
They flew (on Drew's Lugia) across the ocean, stopping off near the Orange Islands to rest.  They got off of Lugia and mounted Ho-oh, and the flew off on him for the rest of the fight.  Thy touched down in Olivine, and then walked to Jasmine's house near her Gym.
When they got, there, Jasmine greeted them.  "Thanks for coming," she said.  "Please, sit down."
"What's this about?" Drew asked.
"Well…" Jasmine started.  "I found this."  She pulled a small book out, and presented it to Drew.  "Open it."
Drew opened it, and discovered Kamon's name written on the inside cover.  "What is this?"
"It's Kamon's journal," Jasmine responded.  "I believe it starts when he was training by himself."
"Interesting…" Drew remarked.
"You can keep it.  I hope that you can find some use for it," Jasmine said.  Drew and Carly thanked her, and then went home.  Drew had some reading to do.

Maxie sat in his secret desert base.  He was contemplating plans for Team Magma's next target: Mount Chimney.
With the meteor from Meteor Falls, he thought, we can use our new machine to take advantage of its power.  This harnessed energy could be the catalyst we need to make the volcano erupt…and possibly bring forth the elusive Groudon…
A Magma Grunt walked over to Maxie.
"Yes?" Maxie asked.
"The machine is ready for testing," the grunt answered.
"Ah, good," Maxie replied.  He followed the grunt out to the top of the base, on a crag above Desert.  "Well?" Maxie questioned after a long period of silence.
"Oh, yes, right away, sir," the Magma Grunt quickly replied.  He placed the meteor in the hole on the top of the machine and hit the small yellow button on the side.  Lights flickered on and off on the machine, and the meteor started glowing.  The grunt dashed back over to Maxie, picked up a piece of cooled lava (about the size of a basketball) and placed several feet away from the machine.  The grunt ran back over to Maxie, and stood an watched as it started its job.
The machine glowed blue and then discharged the energy gathered from the meteor.  A blue shockwave impacted the cool lava stone, making it shatter and then melt back into liquid magma.
Maxie grinned.  "It works," he muttered.
"Yes, it does," the grunt replied.  "And it looks like it is finally ready to use at Mt. Chimney."
"How long until we can use it there?"
"At most four days."
"Good…good…" Maxie responded.
He went back to his office and thought about what was about to happen.  "If we can pull this off," he thought aloud, "our plans might be realized.  In less than a week, it can be over!  Groudon could be unleashed, and we could have him to do as we please…soon, the whole world could be covered in earth.  And Team Magma crowned as the leading party.  We could be…unstoppable…"  Maxie laughed.  "No one could stop us…"
Luke walked into Maxie's office.  "Maxie, you wish to produce Groudon, correct?"
"Yes," Maxie responded.
"I think, in order to control him, you might need the Red Orb from Mount Pyre."
"Why the Red Orb?" Maxie asked.
"According to our research," Luke begun, "Groudon and Kyogre went to sleep millions of years ago because the Orbs were placed in the temple atop Mt. Pyre.  The Red one controls Groudon, and the Blue Kyogre."
"I see…" Maxie pondered.  "How soon can we get it?"
"If it were me," Luke said, "then I would do them at the same time.  That way if we are stopped, only one of us will fail."
"True.  Good plan, Luke.  This is why you are my right-hand man.  Prepare to take your squad to Mt. Pyre when I take mine to Mt. Chimney.  We should dispatch in about four days."
"Yes, sir," Luke said, and left Maxie.
"We will be invincible…" Maxie muttered.
Little did he know that the two trainers that could stop him were battling in Petalburg's Gym, unaware of the cataclysmic plans of Team Magma.
