Thanks Flaming Monkey! Disclaimer: I don't own pokemon. ****** This story takes place between chapters 4 and 5. Ash is still in recovery, and Misty hasn't left his side. This is about a teen named Trey Keies. Hope you enjoy it! ****** It was night as the Alpha Team of the Shadow Clouds approached the second biggest Team Rocket base, which was near Viridian City. They came to the fence on the western edge and the leader gave the order to halt. "Ritchie, we're here," said the leader. "Right. Get back here alive, man. We can't risk losing you." "Hey, it's not just me that might die. I've got my squad here with me! Give them some credit too!" "Take it easy. We here are wishing all of you the best of luck. Christina too." "Tell her not to worry about me. I'll... I mean WE'LL come back alive. Trey out." He gave the hand signal, and a man nicknamed Boomer took his laser and cut a hole in the fence. With another hand signal, all four of them moved inside. "Alright, we'll split up here." said Trey, "Keep it clean and quiet. We're here to take out their supplies and weapons, not to start a gunfight. We've got thirty minutes to set the explosives. We'll rendezvous back here after we're done, got it?" They all nodded their heads in agreement. "Vince, Clay, you'll take the northern end, and Boomer and I will cover the southern end. Move out!" With this, they split up and headed to their perspective locations. "Trey, we got a tango to the right." Boomer said quietly, but with some anxiety in his voice. "Stay calm, Boomer. Stay still and I'll sneak up on him. Remember, we need to keep this quiet or else we'll never get back home." Boomer then noticed a dark figure coming up behind the Rocket Grunt, who was rather intimidating in Boomer's mind. What am I thinking? Trey can handle himself. He can handle anything. He still amazes me though, only being fourteen. Yes, it was true, Trey was only fourteen years old, and yet he still led the most elite squad the Shadow Clouds had to offer. Trey snuck up on the Rocket without making a sound. In a flash, he grabbed the Rocket, slit his throat, and was dragging him away from the entrance. "Boomer, it's all clear. See if you can sneak inside. I'll be right behind you." said Trey. Boomer nodded in accordance, and walked into the Hangar, carefully checking every side of the entrance to make sure he wasn't going to be snuck up on. Inching his way inside, Boomer turned a corner and moved down a narrow corridor. He then made a right turn and was astonished at what he saw: Vince and Clay were tied to a couple of chairs in the room, which looked a lot like an office. "Trey, Trey, do you read me?" "I read you Boomer. Is there a problem? You sound a little worried?" "Yeah...there's a BIG problem. Vince and Clay have been taken hostage!" "WHAT!" Trey shouted, "The Rockets caught them?! How?!" "I'm not sure...but they did. We've got to help them! There's no telling what they'll do to them!" "I agree. Let me radio this in to HQ. I'll be right there. Trey's POV This isn't good... I thought to myself as I changed the channel on my headset. "HQ, this is Alpha 1. Come in HQ. We have a problem." "This is HQ, go ahead Trey." 'Trey?' I thought to myself. No one but Christina and Ash call me Trey! "Ash? It that you?" "Yep, its me. Now, what's you situation?" "Vince and Clay have been captured. Boomer and I are in position to rescue them, with your permission of course." "Go ahead Trey. But be careful. You and your squad mean a lot to the people around here. Come back in one piece." "Roger that. We will Ash, trust me." I caught up with Boomer, and gave him the signal to fire at will. Boomer nodded his head in reply, and we rushed in and opened fire on the Rockets. Regular POV Bullets whizzed by Trey and Boomer as they took cover behind some support beams that were about two feet wide. Trey then saw something that he didn't want to believe. The leader of Team Rocket, Giovanni, shot both of the hostages. "THAT BASTARD! I'M GONNA KILL HIM!" Trey shouted in rage. "I know how you feel Trey, but we've gotta get out of here! I already set the explosives, and I'm sure Vince and Clay did too! Come on!" They ran as fast as they could, and Trey was running backwards, blasting every Rocket he could see. The alarm had gone off long ago, and searchlights were coming on everywhere. Suddenly, with a sickening sound, Trey was shot. Blood splattered everywhere as he fell to the ground clutching his knee and screaming in rage and agony. Boomer pulled Trey up and helped him run. Just as they got to the fence, the hangar and the munitions buildings exploded in a giant fireball, causing a chain reaction, which set the whole base off. Shrapnel and bodies were flying everywhere. Trey and Boomer got about a quarter of a mile to the base before he blacked out. Trey's POV I awoke in a soft bed, wondering just where the hell I was. I suddenly heard voices all around me as I opened my eyes, and saw Christina hovering over me, begging me to come back to her and crying. "Hey...stop crying...you know what that does to me..." I said weakly. "Trey!" she shouted with glee, and kissed me on the forehead. "Oh, I'm so glad you're alive! You nearly died, and you scared us all to death!" After talking to her for about half an hour, I learned what had happened. Not only was I shot in the knee, but also in the chest and right shoulder. Boomer had carried me all the way back, before he died. A sniper that had followed us had shot him. I was so angry and grief stricken that I didn't know if I was going to cry or beat the hell out of something. "This is all my fault! If I had been a better leader, none of my men would have died! I shouldn't have split us up. Boomer...Vince...Clay...I'm sorry...I let you all down..." I had just finished when Ash walked into the room. "It wasn't your fault, Trey. I should have given you more backups. If this whole thing is anyone's fault, it's mine." "No, Ash. I could've prevented this whole thing if I didn't split up the team. If we had stuck together…" "All of you would have been captured and killed." Ash said gently, "Listen. Boomer, Vince and Clay all did their jobs. They knew that they might not be coming back. Boomer told me just before he left, that if anything happened, no matter what, he was going to get you back here alive. And he did so." "I still know I could've prevented their deaths. If I had been a better leader, none of them would've died. I let them all down." Ash looked at me like my father used to. It wasn't an angry look; it was a look of understanding. "I understand how you feel. I've felt like that many of times, like I'd let everyone in my life down. I felt like that when I found my Mom. I felt like if I had done better, I could've protected her and the rest of the people in Pallet Town." he said, "Sometimes you just have to accept things the way they are, Trey. Vince, Clay, and Boomer all died honorably and as heroes. Don't waste the rest of your life thinking about all that 'what if' shit. Now, that's enough. Come with me, I want you to see something." Ash led me outside the room, Christina close by my side helping me walk. When we got out, I noticed that I had not been in Sick Bay at all. I was in a private room, a room that looked a lot like Ash and Gary's. It was a room like those of high-ranking personnel, but this one was special. Outside, there was a large balcony, overlooking the underground park and most of the base. Ash pointed downward, and I looked. I gasped in awe of what I saw. Every person of the Shadow Clouds was there, and they all started cheering when I came out. "What is all of this?" I pondered. "It's all for you, Trey. You've been praised as a hero and will receive a Medal of Honor and a Purple Heart, as will the rest of Alpha Team. They're all proud of you and very relieved that at least one of you came back alive. Don't get me wrong though, they're all still grief stricken about Boomer, Vince and Clay." Ash gave a hand signal, telling everyone to quiet down. "Say something!" Christina whispered in my ear. "Oh yeah!" I replied, a little nervous. "Hello everyone. It's good to see you all. I have to tell you that the raid last night on the Team Rocket base was accomplished, but at a heavy price. I am sorry to say that Vince, Boomer, and Clay were all killed. If you are angry with me, I can understand." I paused, waiting for a response, but there was silence, so I continued, "They were all brave men, and I want you all to know that they died as heroes. As for myself, I would not be here right now if it had not been for Boomer. He was my best friend and greatest ally, and I will miss him and the rest of Alpha Team dearly. But, we cannot allow their or anyone else's deaths to be in vain. We MUST bring Giovanni and Team Rocket down. I want each and every one of you to know, the next time any of us sees Giovanni will be the last. We WILL avenge my friends and allies' deaths. We WILL make him pay for everyone he has ever harmed, even if we die in the process. I will not rest until-" I paused because, strangely, I had a strong urge to look at Christina. I did look at her, only to find a red dot on her forehead. Without thinking, I pushed her out of the way, and everything went dark. Normal POV The crowd shouted and screamed in panic and terror as they saw Trey shot in the chest. They frantically looked around for a sniper, and everyone turned as they heard a blood-curdling scream coming from the railing along the walls. There, a young man had just thrown someone over the side, and shouted "More of them are coming! Ready your weapons!!" The crowd did as they were told, and they reached for their shoulder, elbow, ankle, and wrist holsters, pulling out their guns. Trey was on the ground, unconscious and bleeding badly for the second time in less than two days. "Ash, can you hear me? Is Trey alright?" "I can hear you." Ash replied, "Just who the hell are you anyway?" "Nevermind that right now, just tell me if Trey is alright!" "He's got a large bullet wound in his chest. He's being taken to the Sick Bay as we speak, so don't worry." Ash said while running to aid his troops. "Thank God. Hey! You're going the wrong..." BAM BAM BAM BAM BAM BAM! Ash and everyone else heard the gunfire. It was coming from where the sniper was. ****** A cliffhanger, eh? Don't kill me! It was all Flaming Monkey's idea! ^_~ Send reviews to Flaming Monkey, and me if you want! But send reviews to Flaming Monkey! Seeya!
