Part 5

Familiar People

Ash let out all his pokemon and ordered to attack the dark dome.

Satoshi did the same and also began to shoot Thundershocks as well.

Following Ash and Satoshi’s lead, Misty, Brock, May, and Marene let out their pokemon and ordered to fire.

Inside, it was apparent that all the attacks were taking its toll on Alakazam.

Giovanni seen this and knew it was time to put his plans into action.

Alakazam, let go,” Giovanni ordered.

Alakazam did as he was told and the dome that surrounded them collapse all around them.

Finally, there was no hope for Giovanni to accomplish his plan to capture Mewtwo.  He was surrounded and over powered.

“Give it up, Giovanni,” ordered Mr. Goodshow.  “It’s over, you can’t possibly still go on with your plan.”

Giovanni just laughed.  “You don’t get it do you?” asked Giovanni.  “Just now, did you really think that I was battling with Mewtwo to weaken it?  No, I just wanted to test my skills.”

“That’s a lie,” exclaimed Marene, “you’re defeated. Give up already.”

“Naïve little girl, you don’t know anything about me.  I’m not one to give up so easily.  I’ll show you.”  Finally, pulling out the special pokeball from his pocket and enlarging it to its full size, Giovanni began to put his plan into action.

“Oh, no!” exclaimed Mr. Goodshow looking at the pokeball.  “He still has it.  We need to stop him before he captures Mewtwo.”

“It’s too late.  Houndoom, Dragonite, and Alakazam; attack Mewtwo.”

They did as he ordered and all at once attacked Mewtwo distracting him for just the right amount.

“Now, you’re mines again!”  Giovanni threw the ball.

Everyone’s gaze was on the pokeball headed directly towards Mewtwo.  Everyone except for Satoshi who headed for the pokeball.

A flash of white lightning and flares of spark burst.  Then, there was nothing but the pokeball next to Mewtwo who was hovering right above it.

Ash saw the pokeball, but why did it not catch Mewtwo?  Ash had seen Satoshi run towards it, but where is he now?

“No!” yelled Giovanni in dismay.  He had caught the wrong specimen.  The plan was all over.  There was no other way for Giovanni to be able pull threw with his original plan if he wanted to.

“It’s over, Giovanni.  That brave young man was able to foil your plans,” said Mr. Goodshow.  “You over estimated the will of that young trainer and now you have no where to go.  Sad, really, you had so much potential that what we see here today.”

“Don’t lecture me, old man,” yelled Giovanni.

“No, no, no, no, no!” yelled Marene.  “You have to let go of Satoshi, now!”

Giovanni thought about what happened to his plan.  Everything was painstakingly considered, double checked, triple checked, planned to the in; yet everything failed.  It was all because of him.  It was because that poor excuse of specimen who believed he was the real thing.  It was because of Satoshi.

“Do you really think I’d give you back that clone?  I’ve capture it and like it or not, I’m going to use him whatever I see fit!”

“What are you going to do, have him attack us all with Mewtwo here to help us if we need to?  There’s no way for you to win now, Giovanni,” informed Ash.

“That’s right, now give Satoshi back to me,” cried out Marene.

“Nothing is over until I say it’s over.”  Giovanni signaled to Alakazam and the others.

Houndoom used Fireblast on Mewtwo and Dragonite used Hyperbeam, but to no avail.

When the smoke cleared, Mewtwo showed no sign of even being scratched.

As the smoke was clearing, Giovanni took the chance to make his escape using Alakazam’s teleport.  He was gone.

“Ash,” screamed Misty, “Giovanni is gone!”

Ash looked at where Giovanni was standing and all there was was his footsteps and the rubber marking it made when he was recoiled by the fierce attacks.

“Ash,” said Brock, “we have to find Giovanni before he’s too far gone.  He has Satoshi.”

“Ash,” pleaded Marene, “please, you have to get Satoshi back.  He’s in danger and not himself.”

“Don’t worry, Marene, I promise to get Satoshi back and I won’t give up till he’s back with us.”

“Don’t worry, Ash, most pokemon that use teleport only travel so far.  They haven’t gone so far that we can’t follow.  If anything, he only teleported to where he has an escape route.”

“You’re right, Brock,” said Ash.

“No need,” said Mewtwo telepathically.  “I’ll handle Giovanni.”

Afterwards, Mewtwo used teleport and was gone leaving everyone to wonder where he went.

Just a few seconds later, Mewtwo popped again with Giovanni being cradled with Mewtwo’s physic powers in the air.  From where Ash and the others were standing, Giovanni seemed to have different bruises all around his body; especially his face that seemed as if he was repeatedly stomped on.  Whatever it was that Mewtwo did to Giovanni, it seemed that it was far too harsh for any needed explanation.

Marene ran towards Mewtwo and so did Ash standing next to Marene.

“Did you get back Satoshi,” asked Marene.

“I did,” answered Mewtwo.

Mr. Goodshow walked towards Mewtwo looking at Giovanni beaten and defeated.  He was disappointed at such a waste of talent.

Mewtwo, thank you for helping us, but I have to ask you to put Giovanni down.”

“Fine, I’ll put him down,” answered Mewtwo.

Mewtwo, give me back Satoshi,” demanded Marene as if Mewtwo were just some normal person she’d talk to if she wanted something from them.

“Yes, please release him,” asked Ash more gently from comparison to Marene.

“I can’t,” answered Mewtwo to everyone’s surprise.

“What do you mean you can’t let him go,” asked Marene furiously.  “Give him back, now!”

Mewtwo, you have to let go of him,” included Misty, “he’s our friend, we can take care of him from here.”

“No,” answered Mewtwo, “he is my responsibility.”

Mewtwo, you can’t take him against his will,” argued Brock.

“It doesn’t matter,” Mewtwo responded, “It was my fault he was created, I will take responsibility for my past actions.”

“That decision isn’t up to you,” yelled Ash starting to get agitated by Mewtwo’s lack of consensus.

“The decision is up to me and up to me alone,” said Mewtwo decisively.

Mewtwo, you don’t understand, Satoshi is not just some mistake, he’s our friend,” protested Brock.

“That doesn’t matter, he was my creation and I will not let one of my creations to the world.  I take full responsibility.”

“I don’t care, give him back,” demanded Marene again.

“There is no room for negotiations, I’ve made up my mind, I will leave now.”

“You stupid pokemon,” yelled Marene as she grabbed a hand full of sand and threw to Mewtwo’s face.

Mewtwo was caught off guard, never expecting her to do something so underhanded, but just the same Mewtwo was able to block the whole of the sand.

“I can’t believe you just won’t let him go,” said Marene. “It’s not that hard to give him back to me.  I caught him first you idiot pokemon.”

Mewtwo couldn’t help but get angry at the girl.  Mewtwo was called many things and was considered many things, but an ‘idiot’ was not one of them.  Mewtwo has the IQ of over 100,000, not a very small number when it comes to IQ.  It was something that Mewtwo had valued in vanity’s sake.  For someone like her who seemed the rash and impatient type, it was far more of an insult.

“Listen carefully, I’m going to take him and that’s the final resolution.”

“No, you listen to me.  You’re just like Giovanni.”

Mewtwo didn’t like being compared to Giovanni in the least.  It was a greater insult for her to say that he was like Giovanni than being called an idiot.  “Tell me, why do you think that I’m like Giovanni?”

“Ever since yesterday, I’ve been hearing that Satoshi was nothing but a clone or just a piece of something that fell off of someone else,” said Marene.  “Everyone has been treating him as if he was a second class being.  I hate that.  Satoshi isn’t just some experiment gone wrong.  He’s more than just that.  He’s my friend; a good person.”

Ash looked at Marene and noticed a tear drop down her cheek, then another and another.

“Satoshi is a real person.  I don’t know everything about him, but I know he’s alive.  Back before I knew he was suppose to be a clone of someone, at nights I could hear him talking to himself about something.  He never shared what he was talking to himself about, but now I have an idea of what it was.  Satoshi had always had a dark issue about him, but he still lived.  He kept on with his life; a life that he was given by accident, but a life none the less. You can’t tell me that that’s not worth respecting.”

Misty looked at Marene and knew she was right.  She thought about Satoshi and thought about what it was like if Ash were in the same shoes as Satoshi.  Ash dreams of being the best Pokemon Trainer in the world, and so does Satoshi; even if he never admits it.  What would Ash to do if one day he was to find out that all his life was a lie.  That was exactly what happened to Satoshi.  Misty thought about it and it came to light why she had kissed him the night before.  When Misty had kiss Satoshi, she was thinking of Ash.  She was thinking of Ash losing everything and she was there to comfort him. If Ash did lose everything in the world, she would be by his side, embracing him, comforting him, protecting him from the world, the same thing that Marene is doing for Satoshi now.

“You said that you’ll take responsibility for Satoshi, but that’s not needed at all,” said Marene matter-of-factly.  “Satoshi is a strong person who doesn’t need help from you.  He’s a strong person and he makes everyone stronger as well.  He made me stronger.  Now, give him back you stupid, Pokemon.”

Mewtwo was angry.  Yes, even the great pokemon Mewtwo gets angry.  This girl, who is she?  She’s just some loud mouth girl who doesn’t know when to shut her mouth.

“Listen you, rash, impatient…”

“I said give Satoshi back to me, or I’ll have to beat you in a Pokemon Battle,” yelled out Marene interrupting Mewtwo.

“Don’t interrupt me when I’m spea…”

“I don’t care who you are, if I have to use every strength in my body, I will get Satoshi back from you!  I caught him first!”

“Listen… to… ,” again Mewtwo was cut off.

“Even if I don’t have the strength to beat you, I’ll have friends that’ll make sure that Satoshi isn’t taken away, right Ash?”

Ash knew that Marene had the right idea.  Ash couldn’t let someone take another person away, let alone if that person was Ash’s brother.

“Yeah!” yelled Ash in consensus with Marene, “Even if you helped us defeat Giovanni, I can’t let you take Satoshi.  He’s my brother and he still hasn’t met my mother yet so I’ll take him there first!”

Finally, Mewtwo couldn’t take the interruptions.  Before Marene was able to speak a single syllable, Mewtwo covered Marene’s mouth with some sort of psychic attack.

“There!” said Mewtwo in victory.  “Try to speak, now.”

Marene didn’t try to speak; instead she ran towards Mewtwo and attempted to kick him in the shin.  It was close, but Mewtwo wasn’t legendary for nothing.  He was able to dodge and restrict Marene from moving all at once.

“You can’t do that!” Ash protested.

“Shut up and let me speak!” said Mewtwo finally able to finish his sentence without being interrupted by either Marene or Ash.

“If you had let me finish what I had to say, I would have said that this girl was impatient, loud, rash, disrespectful, but… ultimately right.”

Ash’s jaw somewhat dropped about the last description of Marene.  Then again, Ash did agree with Marene.

“Yes, it’s true.  If I were to try and take Satoshi away from his friends, then I would be as bad as Giovanni.  It would be Satoshi’s choice to do with his given life what he wants.  I, myself was given life and I make my own choices.  No one is my master.”

Mewtwo showed the Pokeball that captured Satoshi and threw it to the ground.  A brilliant light flashed and out came Satoshi.

“Satoshi,” yelled Marene finally able to speak again.  Yet, Satoshi didn’t answer.

What was wrong with Satoshi?  He was just standing there as if he were an obedient Growlithe ready to take an order from his Pokemon Trainer.

“Satoshi, say something,” said Marene as she shook him.

Ahh!,” said Ash remembering what kind of Pokeball was used to capture Satoshi.  Marene, Satoshi is still under the spell of that Pokeball.”

“Oh, no!” exclaimed Marene.

“Mr. Goodshow, is there anything we can do to reverse the effects of that Pokeball,” asked Misty.

“I’m sorry Dear, but I don’t know of anything that can counteract the effects.  That Pokeball was developed for capturing legendary pokemon.  They researched and developed it for 15 years straight.  After they were finished, the scientist that created it ran out of founds for their experiment to find a counteragent.  I’m sorry.”

“Isn’t anything today going to go right,” commented May.

“Don’t worry, May, we won’t give up until we find a way to snap Satoshi back to what he use to be,” guaranteed Ash.

“Do you really promise, Ash,” asked Marene.

“Of course, Marene.  We have a responsibility to Satoshi to give him a chance to meet his family and other friends.”

It was sort of strange if you think about it.  Ash had barely met Satoshi yesterday and now he has accepted him as his brother.  Any other person you met briefly can only be someone you just met, but Satoshi was different.  It was as if Ash had known him ever since he was born.  Maybe, just maybe there was some sort of kindred spirit between the two other than just genetic code.  Perhaps, maybe Ash was supposed to have a brother.

Brock stepped up, “Mewtwo, you’re the most powerful Pokemon that I’ve ever seen.  You’ve done things no other pokemon can do.  Are you able to do something to help us?”

Mewtwo thought about it.  “There might be a way, but it’s something you must all agree upon if you want me to do it.”

“Anything,” exclaimed Ash with conviction.

“Yes, anything for Satoshi,” agreed Marene.

“If I were to do this, the only means to do that is erasing everybody’s memory of this whole experience,” informed Mewtwo.

“What!” exclaimed Ash.  He had not wanted to give that up.

“What do you mean you have to erase everyone’s mind?” asked Misty.  She, too, had not wanted to forget what had happened in the Island despite all the happenings they came upon.

“Why do you have to erase all of our memories?” asked Mr. Goodshow.

“It’s not just about erasing your memories, I’m turning back the minds of everyone,” answered Mewtwo.

“How are you going to do that,” asked Brock.

“I’m going to turn back time.  I’m not able to counteract the powers of that special Pokeball, but if I am able to turn back time before Satoshi was captured by Giovanni, then we’d be able to get him back to normal.”

“No, then that means that we’d had never met, Satoshi,” realized May.

“Not just that, May,” said Brock,” wouldn’t Giovanni just try to take over of the Island again?”

“No, I’ll hold on to Giovanni personally so he’s not able to try anything,” answered Mewtwo.”

“But, I don’t want to forget about, Satoshi,” said Misty out of nowhere.  “I’d be missing out on something grand.”

Marene looked at Ash, Misty, May and Brock.  Marene personally had no problem with the idea of going back in time, but they did.  In all honesty, Marene would better have Ash and his friends know about Satoshi, but if Satoshi was to regain his humanity, it would have to be that way.  Then again, for Satoshi to have a link to the world he only knows of in memory, it would be great.  Satoshi would have actual family that knew he was alive and that he was cared about instead of just Marene.

“We can’t be selfish,” stated Ash.  “Satoshi deserves to have control of his own life and if forgetting about him is the only way, then I say let’s do it.”

“Ash…,” said Marene astonished to hear that,” are you really sure you just want to forget about Satoshi and I.  We may never meet again and you’d never find out about, Satoshi?”

“You’re wrong, Marene,” claimed Ash with such insurance in his statement.  “No matter whether or not I remember any of what happened here, I promise you that someday, I’ll meet you and Satoshi again.  Afterwards, when I meet you two, I’m going to bring Satoshi back home and that’s when we’ll celebrate!”

“Yeah, Marene, we may forget now, but we’ll meet you and Satoshi again.  Somehow, we’ll all meet up again.  I just know we will.”  Misty didn’t really know how they would ever meet again, but she knew that nothing in the world would ever prevent them from meeting those two.

“Don’t worry, Marene.  Just like that promise I made when we were talking, I’m going to make this promise also,” said May, “and I’ll keep this promise, too.”

“Thank you very much, May,” said Marene.  “I promise to meet with you as well.”

“Hey, Marene, when we do meet up again, we’ll have fun,” said Brock.  “I’ll have to battle you as well.”

“Of course, Brock,” said Marene, “thank you very much.  Thank you everyone, I really do appreciate this.”

Ash noticed how sentimental all the girls were getting and knew that it was for no reason.  Ash has every intention to meet Satoshi again and it all seemed like it was useless to cry about nothing.

Marene, whatever it takes, I’ll find Satoshi again,” said Ash, “I promise.”

Ash offered his hand to Marene, but Marene shoved it away and instead embraced him.  It was meaningful embrace at that.  Marene had practically bear-hugged him.  Seeking how it was, Ash did the same.

Seeing the two, Misty did the same with Marene and then everyone had done the same with her.  All this time, Satoshi stood there as if he were a robot.  None of them could stand seeing Satoshi like that anymore.  He was as if he were dead.  That wasn’t Satoshi.  Satoshi was alive and he loved being alive.

Mr. Goodshow watched the young people and knew this was what it meant to be friends.  It reminded him of why he was part of the competitions there in the Island.  It was the comradery between Pokemon and Pokemon Trainer that kept him doing what he did.  It showed that the world had a chance and would divert from people like Giovanni.  It was hard to know that he wouldn’t remember something as touching as this.

Mewtwo, what are you going to do with Giovanni,” asked Mr. Goodshow.  It was a good question.

“I’m going to let him go, but all his plans will be erased and he’d never have the chance to attack this Island.”

“Okay, Mewtwo, we’re ready, now,” said Ash prepared to say farewell for now to his new found brethren.

Everyone was ready.  They never said goodbye, but it sure felt that way.  Then again, they did promise to meet one another again.  It was that promise that had their hopes up even at that type of moment.

Mewtwo arose and started to brim with a bright aura around his being.  It was as bright as a star.  Then there was a flash.

“Ash, I love you,” said May as she grabbed on to Ash’s hand.  Then, it was done.

*****

Setting and Location:  The team of Ash and Misty had defeated their last competitors and now were pitted against the wacky team of Marene and her mysterious partner wrapped in a turban.  The two didn’t seem as if they were going to make it to the finals as they were arguing most of the time, but here they were.

Ash called out Pikachu into the field and Misty called out her Gyarados.

Marene had called her Psyduck and the Mysterious Trainer called out Aipom.

It was a great battle between couples, but at the end, Misty and Ash’s pokemon were he victor.

Marene and Satoshi were disappointed, but they knew it was okay because it was his Ash and Misty.

After their match, guards came up to the field and escorted Ash, Misty, the Mysterious Trainer, Marene, May and Brock out.

The six of them followed the guards towards Mr. Goodshow.  Mr. Goodshow had a grand smile as stood their before him.

“Congratulations,” Mr. Goodshow said as he shook Misty and Ash’s hands, “you two are the winners of his competition.”

The six trainers also had a smile on their face, happy to know they did their best.

“If you six would please follow, me,” asked Mr. Goodshow.

They followed suite and were taken to Mr. Goodshow’s private room.  It was a luxurious room at that.

Mr. Goodshow took the head seat overlooking a fine view of the stadium.  The six trainers sat down on the chairs that were situated facing Mr. Goodshow.

“Does anyone here remember the last two days?” asked Mr. Goodshow.

The only things that Ash remembered over the last two days were meeting up with Brock, Misty and May.  That was the only thing worth mentioning of the last two days.

The only thing that Satoshi remembered was arriving in the Island and going sightseeing with Marene.

Seeing the blank faces on everyone, Mr. Goodshow had known the Trainers had forgotten.

“I don’t know how I retained my memory of everything, but for some reason I do,” said Mr. Goodshow being very vague of what he was talking about.

“Did we do anything wrong,” asked Brock who couldn’t figure out why exactly he and May were there seeing that they came in fourth place.

“No, nothing wrong at all,” answered Mr. Goodshow.  “I have a special reason why I brought you six here.”

“Why are we here,” asked Marene.

“Yeah, we didn’t win,” said May.

From his pocket, Mr. Goodshow pulls out a different looking Pokeball.  It wasn’t your normal looking Pokeball at all.

“Ladies and gentlemen, I have here something that will change your lives.  Now, I know what you’re thinking, ‘what is he talking about?’”

Everyone looked at each other as if Mr. Goodshow had gone senile.

“Before I let you, I first have to ask you something.”

“What’s the question?” asked Marene.

“I offer you something magnificent,” continued Mr. Goodshow.  “I want you have something more meaningful than just a victory.  I want you to have something you had before and gave up for the better good.”

It became vague to total blur.

“It’s your decision if you want this.  If you believe you can handle the truth, I want you to simply put your hand on this Pokeball.  After that, you’ll see what I mean.”

Ash is always game for something like this.  He was the first to stand up.  Next was Satoshi who was still afraid of having Ash find out who he is, but still had natural curiosity to go up there.

Ash had touched the Pokeball first and surges of electricity of some kind pass his whole body.

Satoshi did the same thing and it had the same effects on him.  It was an unbelievable feeling like the rush of jumping off a plane or being soaked with freezing water.

Ash looked at the person who was standing right next to him.  He found him reminding of something he longed to remember, but just couldn’t get out the back of his mind.

Satoshi did the same looking, but he knew who Ash was, but still had the uncanny sensation that he should remember something.

Sa..to..shi,” was what Ash forced out of himself.

Satoshi grabbed the end of the turban that wrapped along his face.  Slowly he peeled the turban from his face.  Everyone including Marene wondered what he was doing.  What showed first was the blonde hair, then the Pikachu ears.  Slowly as Satoshi kept his eyes on Ash and Ash kept his eyes on Satoshi, Satoshi slowly began to remember the last two days.  Ash, too, began to be reminded of the last two days.

Misty was closes to Ash and Satoshi and was able to see the frame of Satoshi’s face.  It began to look familiar.

“Ash…,” whimpered Misty as she began to put the puzzle of Satoshi’s face.

“I… remember…,” said Ash as all the memories run back to him.

As well as Satoshi, as he slowly finish taking of the turban, he remembered everything.

The resemblance between Ash and Satoshi were uncanny, thought Marene.

Brock was besides himself as he saw Ash being besides himself.

May looked at the two and couldn’t believe that Satoshi looked so much like Ash.  If it weren’t for the ears, he would have been Ash’s twin.

Misty had a strange sense of déjà vu.  It was as if she were reliving she something she had already gone through.

Mr. Goodshow smiled at the two knowing that they remembered.

Like opposite magnetic fields, Ash and Satoshi embraced and laughed about it as if it were the funniest thing in the world.

Marene walked up to Satoshi and asked what was going on.  She was dumbfounded by the whole aspect.  “Satoshi, what’s going on?  Why does that guy look so much like you?”

Marene, please, touch the Pokeball,” requested Satoshi.

“No,” answered Marene, “look what it did to you.  You look like you’ve gone crazy.”

Marene, I almost forgot,” said Satoshi.

Satoshi came close to her and gave her a hug like he hasn’t seen her in a long time or as if they just won something fabulous.  Satoshi even gave her a little kiss on the cheek.

“Please Marene, just touch the Pokeball and you’ll know what I’m talking about.”

Marene didn’t know what to think.  She was never kissed by Satoshi before and she had blushed in front of everyone.  This got her pretty mad.  “Satoshi what do you think you’re doing,” she said with her face very red.

“Please, Marene, if you care about me, just touch the pokeball,” Satoshi pleaded.

“Misty,” said Ash,” touch the pokeball, too.

Misty didn’t know if she should.  Would Ash kiss her too if she didn’t.

“Ash, I don’t think you should have touched that pokeball,” said Misty.  “Mr. Goodshow, what did you do to, Ash?”

“My dear, I didn’t do anything that should have been done.”

Another vague answer.

“Please, Misty, if you trust me, touch the pokeball.  Then, you’ll understand.”

Of course Misty trusted Ash. She had always trusted Ash.

Misty did as she was asked and touched the pokeball.  The same surge of electricity flowed through Misty.  At first, it was very misty and vague, but in time puzzles of memory began to take form.

Misty took a look at Satoshi.  She remembered him after he was captured by the pokeball, as he was an obedient pokemon.  Now, he was back to normal and she remembered everything.

“Satoshi…,” Misty said as she became teary-eyed.

“Hey, Misty, you remember, now, too,” said Satoshi who was being hesitant for some reason.

Misty walked up to Satoshi and hugged him.  “I remember completely,” Misty answered.

Marene watched the girl walk up to Satoshi and give him a hug.  She couldn’t help but be a little mad.  Exactly who is this girl that would do this to someone she hardly knows.

“What are you doing,” asked Marene to Misty.

“Wow, Satoshi, this girl is really protective of you,” said Misty.

“Yeah, I guess Marene can be protective sometimes,” said Satoshi.

“Hey, don’t talk about me as if I’m not even here.  Satoshi, let’s get going already,” whined Marene.  “We didn’t even win, we don’t have to take this.”

“We’re not going anywhere until you touch that pokeball,” commanded Satoshi.

“I’m not touching that pokeball,” said Marene in clear defiance.

“May, come here and touch the pokeball,” said Ash to May.

“Ash, I’m a little scared,” admitted May, “just look at what that thing is doing to everyone.”

“Please, May,” asked Ash very passionately, “do it for me.”  Ash then gave her a wink.

May had caught the wink.  She wouldn’t be able to say ‘no’ now.

May walked over and touched the pokeball.

Brock was hesitant, but did so as well knowing that Ash would never ask him to do anything so dangerous.

Afterwards, everyone was laughing and celebrating as if it was a reunion.  Everyone except for Marene who was too stubborn.

Marene was becoming scared.  She thought it was like the movie where alien pokemon had taken over the bodies of earthlings.

Satoshi knew if Marene had decided not to do anything, she would have to be forced.

“Hey, Marene,” said Satoshi slyly.

“What…?” asked Marene a little weirded out by the way Satoshi said her name.

Slowly Satoshi walked to her grabbing hold of her left hand.  Marene, have I ever told you that you were a cute girl if you were really worried about someone?”

Marene started to get warm as Satoshi began to stroke her left hand.

“Satoshi…,” she said with a heavy breathe, “what are you… doing?”

Satoshi didn’t stop from stroking Marene’s hands.  He looked at Marene who had turned red and facing to the ground trying to avoid his gaze at her.  Marene, I care about you, you do know that, don’t you?”

Marene had wanted to slap Satoshi for holding her like that and telling her all that stuff, but she was too embarrassed to do anything.  Not only that, but she kind of enjoyed what Satoshi was doing to her.

“Do you…, Marene?”

“I… I do,” Marene was finally able to say.

“Then, I guess you wouldn’t mind if I give you this pokeball.”  Slyly, with the fluid like motion of a Pikachu, Satoshi slipped the pokeball into Marene’s hands.

“You jerk,” said Marene as she quickly realized what Satoshi did.  Marene then slapped him, but as she made contact with Satoshi’s face, the surge started to happen.

“Owe, that hurts, you know.”

“Satoshi!” yelled Marene in excitement as she gave him a hug.  “I remember, now!” Marene declared happily.

Everyone was laughing at Marene who was clearly red and they knew that.  May looked at Marene and gave her a special smile.  Marene caught the smile.

“What?” Marene said trying to keep natural.

“It’s good to see that everyone is back to being great friends with one another,” said Mr. Goodshow.

“Mr. Goodshow, when did you find out that this pokeball could give our memories back?” asked Brock.

“It’s very ironic.  That pokeball was the reason why we had to get our memories erased, but it’s also the reason why we all remember.”

“But how,” asked Misty.

“I don’t know myself,” confessed Mr. Goodshow.  “I found it at my desk right before the competitions.  I was going to inform you before hand, but I knew if I kept everyone from knowing, then the competitions would have been played fairly without bias.”

“That’s weird,” claimed Brock, “to just find it on your desk like that.  Maybe it wasn’t just a coincident that this pokeball was on your desk.”

“What do you think that, Brock?” asked Ash.

“Think about it, we were nowhere near Mr. Goodshow’s desk when our memories were erased.  The one who had the pokeball was Mewtwo.  Maybe, just maybe, Mewtwo had wanted us to remember.”

“You’re right, Brock,” said Satoshi, “Mewtwo must care about us.”

“Well, the next time I see Mewtwo, I have to thank him for all his help,” stated Ash.

“To Mewtwo,” suggested Mr. Goodshow, “for his kind nature.”

“To Mewtwo,” everyone said.

“Everyone here deserves to celebrate,” said Mr. Goodshow.  “Giovanni was defeated and it was all because you six wouldn’t give up in such a dreaded situation.  If there is anything you six ever need from me, just ask.  You all deserve it.”

“Well, I am pretty hungry,” said Ash trying to point that fact to Mr. Goodshow’s direction.

“I see, so you want a feast,” asked Mr. Goodshow catching Ash’s drift.

“Ash,” said Misty disappointingly, “don’t ask him to do that!”

“It’s perfectly fine, Misty.  You all deserve more than that for saving this Island and the competitions.  Does anyone else have request?” asked Mr. Goodshow.

“I’m just happy that’s all over with and with have our memories back,” said May.

“Yeah, I’m happy just for that, too,” agreed Brock.

“Wait…,” said Satoshi.  “Mr. Goodshow…, anything?”

“Satoshi,” said Marene taking Misty’s role, “don’t ask for anything.  Aren’t you just happy to get a meal and have that situation end?”

“Not just yet,” said Satoshi very boldly.

“What is it, Satoshi,” asked Mr. Goodshow.

“Mr. Goodshow…, I want to be considered alive.”

“What?” asked Marene, “you are alive.

“I know I’m alive, but I want to live,” said Satoshi.

“What do you mean?” asked Mr. Goodshow.

“I want to be registered as a living person. That way, I can become a registered Pokemon Trainer.”

Misty looked at Satoshi and saw the passion Ash had for Pokemon Training.  Misty knew Satoshi wanted it so much.

Marene was a little disappointed that Satoshi wanted to be his own Pokemon Trainer.  What did that mean?  Does that mean that he wanted to travel by himself?  Does that mean that he doesn’t want to be partners with her anymore?

“I see, like Ash, you have a real passion for being a Pokemon Trainer,” said Mr. Goodshow.  “Well, I’ll be hard.  I’d have to forge papers, create a birth certificate, spend a lot of money…, but you deserve it.  I don’t know any other group of Pokemon Trainers that deserve more than you six.  Give me two months, and you’ll be able to register to be a Pokemon Trainer.”

“Thank you, Mr. Goodshow.  And please, when you’re making my birth certificate, please have me be younger than Ash.”

“Of course.  Anything you want, just specify it.  Is there anything else anyone want?”

No one else spoke.

“Fine, then let’s go have a feast.”

Location and Setting:  The two following days were the most relaxing days the six trainer have ever had.  They were treated as if they were celebrities as they were give special treatment.  They were taken to spas, special events, fine restaurants, so on.  Now, it was all over.  Mr. Goodshow showed them a great time during the last two day.  In the plane back to the mainland.  Satoshi and Marene decided to follow Ash and the rest back to Pallet Town.

On the plane back to the main land, Marene and Satoshi decided to go back with Ash and the others to the Kanto Region.  Until now, Satoshi and Marene have merely traveled along the Jotho Region and even the Hoenn Region. For Satoshi to be going to the Kanto Region, it would be weird.

They were on the first-class part of the plane back.  Brock sat on the window side to his left with May, and Marene sitting next to him.  On the same row, Ash sat on the end next to window to his right.  Misty sat next to him and Satoshi sat next to Misty.

Satoshi knew it would be two more days until he meets Delia, but he couldn’t help but fidget thinking about her.

To Satoshi’s left was Marene who was half asleep to notice.  On Satoshi’s right was Misty who was awake and noticed that he was acting sort of strangely.

“Is there anything wrong, Satoshi?” asked Misty.

“No, nothing wrong,” answered Satoshi.

“Are you sure?  You’re fidgeting a lot,” said Misty pointing it out.

“Yeah, I’m sure,” Satoshi assured.

“Are you excited to see Pallet Town.  You must be, you haven’t seen it in…”

“’Never’, you mean?” asked Satoshi.

“Oh, yeah.  I suppose you haven’t ever seen it.  I forget sometimes that you and Ash are two different people sometimes.”

“Am I really that different, Misty?” asked Satoshi.

Misty slyly looked towards Ash’s seat and found he was sleeping.  She then turned back to Satoshi was waiting for her to answer.

Satoshi noticed her looking at Ash before she turned back to him.  He was wondering whether or not she was trying to hide whatever she was going to say from Ash.  It felt sort of familiar.  The last time they had a heart-to-heart, Misty and him ended up kissing one another.

“Honestly, I do see a lot of you in Ash and Ash in you.  Sometimes, when I’m not thinking, I mistake you for Ash,” Misty answered.

Satoshi thought about it for a bit.  “I’m both glad and not glad you said that.  If I’m like Ash, then that means Delia… Mom, will treat me like the real Ash.  But the thing is I’m not the real Ash.  I’m someone else.  I gave myself a name and I don’t know whether it’s okay for me to get there.”

“Satoshi…,” Misty had to think a bit to get the right answer, “Mrs. Ketchum will love you as much as she loves Ash.  And you have to be more confident, you have to call her mother.”

“Yeah, you’re right.”

Satoshi wanted that to be that, but there was still something bothering him.  He looked over to where Ash was sitting and looked to see if he was still asleep.  No, he looked over to make sure he was asleep.

“I don’t know why I started to call myself Satoshi,” Satoshi said loud enough to get Misty to notice him.

“Do you want to have a different name,” Misty joked.

“No, ‘Satoshi’ is fine.”

“There is something bothering you,” Misty said finally.  “What’s bothering you?”

“People have been calling me ‘Satoshi’ all this time.  Honestly, truly, I don’t call myself that.”

Misty was afraid to ask, but she asked none-the-less, “What do you call yourself?”

“It’s not all the time.  It happens from time to time and I don’t really mean it.  Sometimes, even when I was battling you and Ash I said to myself, ‘common Ash, you can do it’, and I feel bad for doing that.  I guess, I sometimes don’t want to call myself ‘Satoshi’.”

Misty was considering what to say.  She didn’t know what to say.  Two days ago, she had made peace with Satoshi being ‘Satoshi’ and Ash being ‘Ash’, but now, it was coming back to her again.  She imagined what Satoshi was going through.  She imagined being called something else all the sudden by her sister.  For example, one day they called her Misty.  Then the next day, they would call her Kasumi and they would call her Kasumi for the rest of her life.  Misty understood.  Misty knew that Satoshi wasn’t happy just being someone else.  He had Ash’s memories; he must have wanted to be called Ash as well.  He must have wanted to be Ash.

“Sato…, Ash… I mean, I’m sorry.”

“Don’t be sorry, it’s my fault.  I guess now that I’ve been given so much, I want more.  That’s awful of me.  And to think, three days ago, the think I most wanted was just to see mother.  But now, I want more.  That’s selfish.”

“Don’t say that.  It’s normal for someone to want something they have the right to.  My sisters do it all he time with their clothing.”

“It’s not the same.  I’m talking about existence.  Never mind, please just forget what I said here.”

Misty was about to say something, but Ash was starting to stir.

*****

Location and Setting:  The plane finally landed on the mainland.  Brock had been out of the Gym for a long time now and was due to go back.  Brock’s brother would have taken care of any challenger, but it was still Brock’s responsibility.  Though, Brock had wanted to see Satoshi with his mother.  May had also wanted to see Satoshi with his family, but she had family as well.  Back in Hoenn, May made a promise it was going to be 5 day vacation.  For her to miss anymore days would just have been slacking off.

Brock called for a cab to take him to Pewter.  It had arrived and was already waving to the other five trainers.

May was still at the plane station waiting for her flight.  Ash and the rest decided to wait till she got on the plane to make plans for Pallet Town.

The whole time on the plane, Satoshi, Misty and Marene had not gotten any sleep.  As soon as they were told that May’s plane wouldn’t be ready till 1:30 pm, the urge to sleep took over.  The time at the moment was 1 in the afternoon.  Ash had promised the three he would wake them all when the time comes for May to get back on her flight.

Ash sat there between Misty and May with Marene to the far end of Misty.  Both Ash and May were still awake.

It’d been quiet for a while and May was starting to get anxious about something.

“Hey, Ash,” said May trying to get Ash’s attention.

“Huh, what is it, May?” answered Ash.

“Do you remember when Mewtwo was going to erase our memories?”

“Yeah, how can I forget? I did forget, but how can I forget again.”  Ash then laughed at his own joke.”

May decided to just go for it and she didn’t care what happened.  “Ash, do you happen to remember or have heard something before Mewtwo had erased our memory?”

Ash remembered?  He didn’t remember much about right before Mewtwo had erased everyone’s memories.  The only thing on Ash’s mind at the time was trying to figure out how he would have some how been able to meet with Satoshi again.  At the instance Mewtwo had hit, what May said was merely a whimper.

“I’m sorry, May, I wasn’t really paying attention at the time.  At least that’s what I think happened.”

May seemed disappointed.  She would have used that as her launch to start the conversation about liking, Ash.  It was more than just like, it was more than that.

May had something in her mind and Ash knew it by the way May moved.  She was constantly twirling her fingers and scratching her head and other things she didn’t really need to do.

“Ash,” May began, “I want to tell you something…, but I don’t know if I should.”

She was afraid of Ash’s answer, though she already knew what it was.  Then, what was the point if she knew that answer?  It would only have embarrassed her and Ash.  Even worse, what if did tell Ash and he said no and they’re relationship would forever change.  It wouldn’t change that much, but every time May would look at Ash and Ash would look at May, it would be awkward, right?  Was it worth it?

“What is it, May?” asked Ash.  “You know you could ask me anything you want.  Ask me anything.”

May looked at Ash blankly not know whether she should or not.  Then, May remembered what she and Marene were talking about when they were alone in the Island posing as Team Rocket members.  She remembered how desperate the time was and how she only wanted Ash to be okay and come get her as fast as he could.  May had promised herself and Marene that she would tell Ash when she met him again.  What happened?  Was that all just hysterical proclamation in the face of danger?  What if there was another time like that?  Would May want to confess to Ash again?  No, she had to do it, now!  There is no telling what the future holds for her and Ash.   She had to tell him how much she meant to him.

Ash kept looking at her.  He didn’t face away until May would give him an answer.

May was going to tell Ash, but she couldn’t if he were looking at her like that.  So, May decided to tell Ash as she look down on the carpeted, hard cement of the airport station.

“Ash, I think… I might…, maybe…, just be in love with you.

“Huh?  May, what was that you just said?  I couldn’t hear the last part of the sentence.”

May was sort of angry that Ash didn’t hear her.  She had said it and it should have been enough.

“Ash, you’re awful.  For you to make a girl say it again just makes you awful!” May said with a crooked smile and a red face.

“I’m sorry, May, but you spoke too softly.  Say it again and I’ll listen to it this time.”

“I said, I… love you, Ash.”

Again, Ash couldn’t quite hear what she had said.  It was just too soft for Ash to hear.

“May, whatever it is you want to tell me, you don’t have to be embarrassed.  So, please can you say it again?  I really do want to understand what you were trying to tell me.”

May knew she just had to say it.  It was a promise not only to Marene, but most importantly, to herself.

May decided she had to fess-up.  She had to be strong no matter the outcome.

“Ash, I… I love you, Ash!”

May looked at the others; luckily they were still asleep to hear what she had just blurted out.

Ash just looked at her wondering what she really meant about what she said.  Did she mean she cared about him or did she mean she had other feelings not platonic?

May was dumb-struck.  She couldn’t look away out of sheer embarrassment.  It was as if she had slipped and landed on pokemon manure and the whole world was watching and laughing.  It was as if she had said the most deadly thing in the world.

Ash waited for some reason.  As if he were waiting for May to continue to finish her sentence, but nothing else came out of her; she just starred.  If Ash had wanted to, he could have poked her eyeball and she would just sit there, frozen.

Suddenly, the flight announcer read off the flights ready to be boarded.

Passengers of flight 46 to the Hoenn Region now boarding… Passengers of flight 46 to the Hoenn Region now boarding… Passenger of flight 46 to the Hoenn Region now boarding…Passenger of flight 46 to the Hoenn Region now boarding…

“May…,” said Ash trying to snap May out of her shock, “May, I think that’s your flight.”  Seeing that May wasn’t budging, Ash decided to pick her up on her feet by grabbing her arms.  She was stood up, but still she didn’t move her legs.

Ash decided since she wasn’t moving, it would be better if he had helped her walk to her launch pad.

As Ash walked her to her pad he wondered what she meant.  He kind of knew what she meant, but he wasn’t fully certain if she meant what he thinks she meant.

“May,” Ash started, “did you mean that you love me as a friend, or as a… a lover?”

May turned tomato red.  She had a frown on her face and she looked she had seen Death.

Ash looked at her and knew the answer.  She wouldn’t have been that embarrassed if she meant the other kind of love.  She was in love with him.  It was awkward and gratifying at the same time.

What could she see in me, Ash thought to himself.  Then again, May is kind of cute.  But, then again, she is like a little sister to me.  Oh, man, I can’t let her board the plane like this.  What if something goes wrong?  What if she’ll be comatose like this for a while?

“May, come on, snap out of it.”  Ash shook her, but no reaction what so ever.  “Come on, May.”

Then, Ash looked at May again.  She was cute.  She was cute and pretty.  In fact she was very pretty.  Dare Ash think it; Beautiful.

Finally, Ash got May to the entrance of her flight.  May was still not budging.  Then Ash pointed her head to the blinking red sign that said, ”To Hoenn.”  Somehow, instinctively, May’s feet began to move; slowly, but she began to move.  The other passengers behind her were yelling and hollering for her to move faster, but she still couldn’t move faster than she was going with her pace.  Finally, one other passenger shoved her out of the way and moved in front of her.

Ash saw this and was pretty peeved that someone would treat her that way.  No, no one treats May that way.

Ash walked up to May and practically pulled her up in front of the man that had purposely shoved her.

“Hey, who do you think you are?” asked the chubby man that had shoved May.

“I’m the guy that won’t let you treat such a beautiful girl like May that way.”

Somewhere inside of May grew a spark of courage.  Somewhere inside of her, she was starting to get that same strength she had when she was still in the Island with Marene.

“Are you even in this flight?” asked the man.

“No, but I won’t let you treat her that way.  I’m going to accompany May until she’s ready to enter that plane.”

“Hey, you can’t do that,” exclaimed the man.  “I think that’s a federal offense or something.”

“I don’t care; I’ll stay with May however long it takes.”

Seeing Ash the way he acted gave her the courage again.

“Ash…” May finally said waking from her shock, “I can go by myself, now.”

“See, lover boy, she can do it herself, so you don’t really need to be here.”

“Yeah, I’ll be okay, Ash.  I just needed to snap out of that.  I’m sorry I spaced out.”

Ash looked at her.  Her eyes were glowing and he could see such sincerity inside them.  Ash knew she was ready.

“Okay, May. I know you can.”

Ash walked out of the line and the other passengers were relieved to finally be able to board their flight.  Still, Ash watched from a distance as May get ever so closer to her flight.

Just as May was giving her ticket to the flight attendant, Ash remembered May was crying when he left her with Marene.  Ash knew she was strong.  But, something needed to be done.  Something that he just had to do.

As May began to enter the corridors that would take her to her plane, she felt a tug on her left wrist.  She couldn’t walk, someone just wouldn’t let go.

“Hey, let go of me… Ash?!”

Ash pulled her close to him and looked at her eyes.  They were glowing again.  He looked at May’s face and she was turning bright red.  Ash looked at May’s lips and they were pouting.

“Ash…,” May said and Ash kissed her in front of everyone there.  Everyone could hear May whimper as if she had just been touched for the very first time.  It was a long kiss.  Then, it was over.  “Ash, why?”

“Because I love you, too.”

May didn’t know what to say or do.  She just stood there.

Everyone clapped as if they were in some corny love movie.  But that didn’t last long as the sign started to say, “Flight Leaving In Five Minutes.”

“Ash, I have to go,” said May.

“Yeah, I know you do.”

May turned around towards he corridor.  She was light headed and feeling fantastic.  May walked on not turning back.  She walked on, on until she was out of sight and five minutes later, the plane was in the air.
