"Bye! I got to go!" yells Jenn. "I need to get to Professor Birch's!" She grabs her PokeDex, PokeNav, money, PokeBalls and potions, runs downstairs to tell her mother goodbye, and runs out the door. When she got to the laboratory, only two other girls were there, they both appeared a few years older than Jenn.

"So... I'm Jenn Raby!" says Jenn in attempt to make conversation, "What starters are you getting?"

"Pidgey and Squirtle," says the girl with the brown, curly hair. "My name is Rachel Mackey, and I'm a late starter. I'm 15..." She says, a bit embarressed.

"Pikachu and Charmander," says the other. "I'm Clea Lockhart-Wynns, and I'm a late starter too, but not that late. I'm 13."

"I'm 11. Guess our ages differ enough..." Jenn says, somewhat sarcastically

"Where'd you two come from?" Rachel asks Jenn.

"I've lived here all my life," she says. "I've been everywhere in Hoenn," she says.

"Cool, I've been stuck in Littleroot all my life." says Rachel. Clea nods in agreement. As this is spoken, an old-looking guy comes out of steel door.

"Only three trainers starting out?" They nod. "Come in. I am Professor Birch," he says, introducing himself. Jenn, Clea and Rachel walk in.

"What Pokemon are you starting out with?" he asks.

>"Mudkip and Torchic, and my name is Jenn Raby." says Jenn.

"Pidgey and Squirtle, mine is Rachel Mackey." says Rachel.

"Hey, I don't have anyone to travel with," says Jenn.

"Me neither," saysClea.

"I don't either," says Rachel.

"Why don't we travel together?" suggests Clea. And this is our story...

The three trainers walk onto Route 101. As they travel farther away from Littleroot, they run into a Poochyena.

"Awesome! I'll catch it!" exclaims Jenn. "Go Torchic!"

"BAWK!" boldly yells the little chicken.

"Ember!" Jenn yells. The fire attack almost knocks it out. She recalls Torchic and throws a PokeBall. It's caught. "YAH!" she says happily. The trio comes to Oldale Town.

"No gym," notes Rachel sadly. The three train on route 103 until their Pokemon are at level 12. Rachel catches a Zigzagoon and Clea catches a Taillow. They smile with happiness at their accomplishments.

They heal at Oldale's Pokemon Center and head out to route 102. Jenn finds a Ralts and captures it. They fight a few trainers. The trainers they defeat are weak. Clea catches a Wurmple and so does Rachel. Not much to see on route 102. And then they enter the town of Petalburg.

"YAY! It has a gym!" cheers Rachel. They find it, and they enter the gym. Norman, the gym leader, looks at them. "Let me see your collection of badges," he says. Clea laughs.

"We don't have any badges. This is the first gym, right?" Clea asks, with all the girls' hopes just a bit too high. Norman shakes his head.

"No, I'm sorry, this is the fifth gym. I won't be allowed tobattle you until you have four badges. Come back here when you get them," he tells the girls. They walk away, all sulking.

"This sucks," sulks Jenn.

"Go figure..." Rachel replies. Jenn looks at her Poke Nav.

"The next town with a gym is Rustboro." Jenn says. Rachel and Clea nod.

"Then we're off," says Clea. They walk off onto route 104 when Rachel screams.
