Fist Fight

By: Das Kernal

Summary: When Ash and Misty feel that the only was to resolve their differences is a fist fight, can Brock stop them before they begin?
Notes:
Ash is age 14
Misty is age 15
Brock is age 19

Brock was walking down a path with his friends. It seemed rather quiet lately. But he didn’t mind. It gave him time to daydream about Officer Jenny and Nurse Joy. In this dream there was a kidnapping with Brock as a witness. So he could spend lots of time with different Jennys.
When he came back to reality, he knew what would be waiting. Another chance to mediate between Ash and Misty. But it seemed that he came back too late.
“That’s it! Tomorrow, noon. In front of the Saffron Gym. You and me! We leave the pokemon out of it!” Misty shouted.
“Fine! I’ll be there!” Ash shouted back.
Then they both walked off in separate directions leaving Brock wondering what happened.
“To quote one of my favorite cartoon heroes, ‘this is bad, very bad’,” Brock muttered as he walked into Saffron City.

Misty walked down the street with all the stores. She was walking right past all of them. Her mind was still on the fight.
“I’ll show him. It doesn’t pay to make me mad. He’s gonna hurt tomorrow.”
“Misty, please stop this,” Brock asked.
“No!”
“Will you stop if Ash apologizes?”
“He won’t.”
“What if he does?”
“I’ll think about it.”

Ash was sitting on a stump just outside of town. Pikachu was just sitting there watching him.
“What am I going to do? She’s going to kill me. I know I can’t fight. So does she. That’s why she chose this. She knows she will win. I and so dead. Pikachu, what should I do?”
“Pikapika (beg for your life).”
“Very funny.”

That night Brock was trying to figure out a way to end the fight without insulting anyone’s pride. He still wanted them all to stay friends.
“Hey, Ash!” Brock called as he ran to Ash.
“Oh, hi Brock.”
“Are you really going to do this?”
“Do what?” Ash played dumb.
“Fight Misty.”
“I have to.”
“No, you don’t. She has agreed to apologize if you would also,” Brock lied.
“No she didn’t.”
“Yeah, she did,” Brock insisted.
“I’ve known Misty for over four years. I know that she wouldn’t apologize.”
“What? Are you calling me a liar?”
“I guess I am.”
“Shoot. Gotta try something else.”
“Brock, please stay out of this.”
“I can’t do that. You two are my friends. Besides, do you really think you can hit Misty?”
“What do you mean?”
“Don’t play dumb, you’re not good at it. I know you like her.”
“Well, uh, so what if I do?”
“You’re not supposed to hit someone you like.”
“She started it. And I’m going to end it.”
Brock walked away from a failed mission.

The next day, Brock was sitting in front of the gym waiting for Ash and Misty.
Just before noon, both showed up. Brock pleaded and begged to both to stop this. Neither cooperated.
“Well, at least it should be a good show,” Brock said as he leaned against a wall to watch.
“Come on, Ash. Let’s see what you’ve got,” Misty taunted.
“You’ll find out soon,” Ash looked at her without expression.
“Ha! I’ve seen you hit something. You couldn’t even faze me. Come on, I’ll give you a free shot,” Misty said as she closed her eyes and put her right cheek forward as she tapped it with her hand.
Brock just shook his head. “This can only end in disaster,” he whispered.
“Pikapi,” Pikachu commented.
Ash stood there for a second, obviously thinking about what to do. Ash stopped thinking and took action. Misty stood there waiting for a hit. A few seconds went by. Then Brock watched as Ash slowly walked up to Misty. Then he leaned forward and kissed her on the cheek. Misty pulled back and looked at Ash in surprise. Then Ash turned and walked away. Misty just stood there.
Brock was in shock. He always knew that Ash cared. But he didn’t think he would express those feelings in such a way.
“Pikachu pika,” Pikachu ran after Ash.

The next day all three met at the Pokemon Center and continued the journey. Brock noticed that Ash and Misty were pretending like nothing had happened. He guessed that was a good thing. They don’t need to be thinking about the fight that almost happened.

Around noon, while they were stopped for lunch, a trainer challenged Ash. Ash had to call upon all his skills to win. When he did, Misty came running up smiling. She gave him a hug and kiss on the cheek. Ash blushed and then went about eating. Misty did the same.

Brock looked at Pikachu who just shrugged.
“What is going on with those two?” Brock thought to himself.
After lunch, Brock was having a lovely daydream about a world of Joy’s. Brock was seriously injured and couldn’t move for weeks. So several Joys were taking very good care of him.
When he woke up, Ash and Misty were fighting again. They seemed to be arguing about who had the gentler pokemon. Brock had had enough.
“HEY! SHUT UP! I don’t want to hear anything but an explanation. Yesterday, you two were about to kill each other. Then Ash kissed Misty. Then today it’s like nothing happened. Then after that last match, Misty kissed Ash. Now you’re fighting again? Over something stupid? What’s going on?!!” Brock was panting from yelling.
Ash and Misty looked at Brock with confused looks on their faces.
“Are you okay, Brock/” Misty asked.
“NO! I’m not! You two are being weird.”
“What do you mean?” Ash asked.
“You know what I mean. Now I want an explanation. NOW!”
Misty and Ash looked at Brock for a minute, then at each other. Then they both burst out laughing. When Brock saw this, it made him even madder. “Did I miss something?” He asked in an annoyed voice.
“Pikapika.”
“Yeah, you could say that,” Misty said when she stopped laughing.
“We’ll explain while we walk. Let’s go,” Ash suggested.
As they began walking Brock saw Ash and Misty walking together. Ash had his hand around her waist while her hand was on his furthest shoulder so her head could be on the closer one.
“Ha! Another example of you being weird. You never used to walk like that,” Brock pointed out.
“Calm down, Brock. I’ll explain,” Ash told him.
Ash did all the explaining. “Brock, Misty and I started dating a week ago.”
“What! Why didn’t you tell me?”
“We thought you would figure it out. But you were daydreaming all the time that you didn’t see anything.”
“Oh, sorry.”
“So we decided to play a little joke on you.”
“You mean this was all a joke?”
“Yeah, pretty much.”
“Well, I must at least admit it was a good one. So when did you plan this?”
“Two days ago before we started arguing.”
“You mean on the road?”
“Yes. We talked about it right in front of you. You were obviously daydreaming about Jenny or Joy.”
“Both actually, but mainly Jenny. I guess I do daydream a little too much, huh?”
“Just a little. Are you mad?”
“No, not really. I guess the important thing is that you two are finally together and won’t fight all the time.”
Misty’s head popped up, “who said we weren’t going to fight?”
“It’s part of who we are. It’s how we communicate,” Ash added.
“Wha… Are you nuts? You’re not supposed to fight with you’re girlfriend!”
“Why not?” Misty asked.
“AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!” Brock yelled.
