The Chosen Ones

Chapter 2

On Trovita Island, the wind started to howl. Huge waves crashed against rock walls and on sandy beaches. What had once been a beautiful night was suddenly becoming a tropical storm. Team Rockets own helicopters were having trouble trying to stay near their grunts. Something had to be done and fast.

"Sir! The wind is too strong. If we continue to hold this position we'll crash!" yelled one of the pilots into his communicator. He was lucky the storm hadn't messed that up too.

Giovanni sat in his office at Team Rocket Headquarters and growled frustratedly,"Fine, incompetent fool! Load up the grunts and attack them from the air."

"Yes sir!"

The commlink went dead. Giovanni continued to watch the operation on a small television. The video feed was provided by a small camera mounted on the front of the previously mentioned pilot's helicopter. He was enraged. Every time Team Rocket got close to capturing a key individual from the rebellion, something like this happened. Some strange complication suddenly sprung up every single time! For example, once they had tracked one of the rebel leaders down in a small cottage at the base of Mt.Moon. Just as the trucks and copters approached the cottage, a small but powerful earthquake put a 50 meter-wide, 40 meter-deep rift in the road. As if that wasn't bad enough, a tornado came out of nowhere and destroyed three of the four copters. Needless to say, the rebel escaped.

Dawn's blue hair was blown across her face as she turned to find her next target. By the time she had removed her hair from her eyesight, the Rocket grunts were scrambling back into thier helicopters. Once everyone was aboard, the helicopters lifted into the air and looked as if they were going to leave.

"Yeah, we won!" yelled May from a tree branch just above Dawn's head.

She spoke to soon. Quickly, the helicopters created a "V" formation and turned to the rebels below. Black wings slowly lifted from thier sides, on each one was a rocket launcher equipped to fire fifty rockets or nets. Everyone below doubted that the infamous Team Rocket would spare them after kicking their buts on the ground.

With a loud roar, a huge charizard flew out of the trees toward the helicopters. Its flamethrower brought down one of the black machines. The dragon flew to the lead copter and grabbed its belly. Hugging it, the charizard used seismic toss by soaring into the sky and turning to barrel down to the island. Charizard released the helicopter in just enough time to take back into the sky. The machine, however, had no chance and crashed into the ground.

The group of stunned rebels that had been looking at the wreckage heard the sound of rockets being fired. They turned, faces covered in fear, to look expectantly at the remaining helicopters. To their surprise, they saw ground based rockets slam into several of the machines. The group looked to the trees from which the charizard had emerged and saw a large group of grey-cloaked people, severel with rocket launchers, charge into the open.

"Hey guys, look!" yelled Max as he pushed his glasses up with one hand and pointed skyward with the other.

"They're running!" Brock stated, surprised.

Indeed, leaderless and confused, the remains of Team Rocket's force were scrambling to get away. Unfortunately for them, the storm had become more violent and the wind and lightning put many of them out of commision before they could escape.

"You're Misty Waterflower, correct?" inquired one of the cloaked figures, who now outnumbered the rebels.

"Yeah. Who are you and what do you want?" She snapped, obviously embarassed about the help.

"Heh, heh. Would you and your friends come with us? We need to leave the island immediatley, before Team Rocket comes back....or worse." he said with a hint of fear in his voice as he scanned the stormy sky. The man turned and motioned three grey army trucks to come out of the trees.

Misty thought for a moment before turning to Rudy, "Rudy....I'm sorry, but we really do need to go."

"It's alright Misty. My sister and I will come with you. Its not like we have a lot to stick around for anyway." Rudy turned to look sadly at the mansion which had suffered considerable damage during the fighting.

"Ok everyone! Let's go! Leaders get the front truck, rebel soldiers-the next one, my men load up on the last truck. Move!" yelled the Commander of the rebel's apparent allies.

After everyone had loaded up, the trucks set off on a secret road around the island. Misty gave the guards in thier truck a good look. She recognised them from rumors she had heard lately. They were from the 'Chosen One's Army'. On the back of the grey cloak was the symbol of the old Pokemon League. She had heard rumors that thier leader had the power to overthrow Team Rocket.

Yeah right. Misty thought, It's just a rumor. If he could overthrow Team Rocket, he would have done it by now.

The light around them was suddenly supplied by the headlights of the truck behind them as they entered a hidden tunnel and proceded down hill. After a few minutes, the ground leveled out again and the trucks pulled into a gradual turn in the tunnel. When they stopped and got out, the rebels were stunned to find themselves in a secret cove. Lights were strung up all along the walls and there was a large submarine moored in the harbor.

"Welcome to our humble abode," the Commander said, "We'll use this sub to get out of here. I'm sorry, but it's going to be cramped for a while."

"That's alright. We could all use some rest though." Drew tiredly replied. His comrades nodded in agreement.

"Right this way then." The Commander motioned as he led the group onto the sub and to the beds.

Soon everyone was aboard. The rebels all retired to the sleeping quarters for the remainder of the night. Upon the Commander's order, the submarine started its engines and left the harbor. Little did Misty and her friends know that thier greatest and most dangerous adventure yet was awaiting them at the submarine's destination.

The screen was shut off and the lights came on as the dark figure arose from his chair and smiled. He had short, black hair. He wore full, plated armor, also black, and a black cape which fastened around the base of his neck. His most frightful feature was his eyes. His eyes were a deep black, filled with hate, malevolence, and evil.

His cape billowed and swished as he turned to leave the room. On his way, he was approached by one of his human soldiers. The young man bowed before speaking.

"We have recieved a message from General Tork, Emperor. He said that they have succeeded in capturing 'the prize'." the soldier said in a nervous and shaky voice.

"Good," the Emperor's voice caused the young man to shudder. Lucky for him, the Emperor was in a good mood. He watched the young lieutenant nervously gaze up at him before continuing, "Get up. Have a message sent to the General telling him to bring it here for training, and have a battalion of men get ready to come with me to Cerulean City," he paused at the door, "And Captain, don't ever let me catch you wearing those golden bars again." With that, he left.

"Y-yes sire!" the newly promoted Captain said smiling.

After departing from the submarine at a secret port in Kanto, Misty and her friends were given quite a scare when they saw their supposed allies dressed in Team Rocket uniforms. It had taken a while to assure them that the disguise was needed in order for such a large group to enter Cerulean City. The rebels would pretend to be their prisoners and everything would be explained when they got to their secret headquarters in the city.

It took the group three days to walk to the city. Just outside it, Rocket guards stopped them and demanded to see identification, which surprisingly all of the fake Rockets had. Once inside the city, they were marched to Team Rocket's Mercenary headquarters building. There, the rebel soldiers were taken to thier quarters while Misty and company where taken deep underground. They were shown into a conference room and told to wait there for "the Chosen One".

Tracy looked around the room to see that it housed a long, polished black table surrounded by cushioned chairs. Instead of tile floor, this room actually had carpeting. Tracy watched as Brock moved to the far wall, along which were quite a few windows.

"Hey guys, come look at this." Brock said.

"Wow! Look at that," May exclaimed as she and the others gazed down onto a large, brightly lit plaza. On the floor in the plaza's center was the symbol of Team Rocket's Mercenary division.

"Is it just me, or does that symbol look familiar?" Max inquired. The whole group nodded in agreement.

"There's the Commander," Rudy pointed at a figure dressed in a Mercenary uniform who walked up to and salute another person wearing a black cloak with a white Mercenary symbol on the back.

They watched as the Commander handed a pokeball to the hooded figure. With a white flash, the abnormally large charizard they had seen on Trovita emerged from the ball. The hooded person petted it before returning it to its pokeball and conversing with the Commander. The Commander pointed up at the conference room before leading the hooded figure out of sight.

"That must be the 'Chosen One'," stated Dawn.

Just a few minutes later the door opened and the Commander and the hooded figure entered the room. The hooded man asked everyone to have a seat before he began to talk.

"I am the Chosen One," he stated, "I am also the head commander of Team Rocket's Mercenary division," the whole group gasped, "Now, now. Let me explain," he pressed a button on his end of the table and a hidden panel in the middle of the table slid back. A holographic projector came up out of the table and showed a hologram of the Mercenary emblem. "Now watch this," he pressed another button and parts of the emblem faded, revealing the hidden symbol of the old Pokemon League.

"The Mercenary division is really the "Chosen One's Army" in disguise. We needed to do this so that we could get the supplies necessary to run our army. All the missions given to us we frame so that it looks like we did our job, even if we helped whoever we were sent to kill."

His voice sounds so familiar. I just can't put my finger on where I've heard it before. Misty thought.

"Now," the Chosen One became very serious, "I have important information for you that no one besides those in this army knows about. Team Rocket and Giovanni are not who we should be worried about."

Everyone stared at him in bewilderment. He could have basically told them to lay down their arms and stop fighting. It was rediculous! Of course they should be worried about Team Rocket! They were the most powerful force on earth. Who else would need more attention than them?

"There is a prophecy, that one day, an evil force shall come to this world seeking to take it over and spread darkness and despair across the face of the planet. Only the Chosen Ones will be able to stand up to this force and overthrow it. Many people have heard this prophecy, and assumed it refers to Team Rocket. It doesn't. It refers to a force that already is plotting to overthrow Team Rocket."

I wish he would take his hood off. Brock thought,Then maybe I could figure out where I've heard that voice before.

"You said 'Chosen Ones'. Does that mean there are more people like you?" May asked.

"upposedly there are two 'Chosen Ones' that are supposed to stop this force from taking over, but I'm confident that I can do it."

"You sound awfully cocky for someone with such a great responsibility," Misty poked.

"You're one to talk Miss-I-Don't-Want-Any-Help." The Chosen One poked back.

"Hey, at least I know I can take care of my self."

"Oh yeah-"

"Yeah!"

The Chosen One drew in a breath for his retort, but stopped and thought better of it.

I can't let my gaurd down like this. He thought

Just then, a soldier holding a typed piece of paper burst into the room. He frantically looked around and, upon seeing the Chosen One, handed him the paper. The Chosen One was silent as he read it. When he was done, he slammed his fist on the table and looked at the Commander.

"Get everyone out of here and take them to the base in Golden Rod City." He ordered the Commander.

"Everyone sir?" The Commander looked shocked and worried.

"Everyone."
