Part 26:

If Only She Knew

Note: GAH! I’m back in school and loaded with even more work than ever and to tope it all off, we got a new Track coach this year and boy is he gonna be tough on us all even the little froshes! I pity them so; they’re all dropping the team after a day or two, that’s how bad it is.-_-’ Nothing much here except to say yeah, no more promises of weekly updates, just whenever I can dudes and Ettes, I am serious stressed out and to be updating my accounts on The Pokemon Tower, FanFiction, FictionPress, and LiveJournal is starting to be a right pain in the neck! >.< but on a happier note… Nine chappies plus epi left! Soon it shall all be over and I can go onto my other fics!

Misty sighed and wandered over to a small bridge, overlooking the lake. She looked down at Marril and giggled as they watched their eerie reflections. As she walked back towards the trees, she climbed onto one of the highest branches and sat there for a while, hidden behind the leaves.

Suddenly she heard a familiar laugh and looked down to see that May and Ash were sitting beneath the tree. She held Marril’s mouth and sshed her just before she let out a small cry of surprise.

“Ash… I love it when you’re romantic…” May smiled, as she latched herself onto his arm.

‘Oh May… he’s a liar… yet I can’t do anything to you… You guys are so in love…’

I don’t know whose side I’m takin’

But I’m not takin’ things too well

I can see inside you’re achin’

But is it still to early to tell?

‘Ash…’ Misty thought to herself wistfully. ‘I still love you… but so does may… And even after all you’ve done, I just can’t bring myself to hurt you…’

“Yeah I know.” Ash grinned. “Must be my charming good looks huh?”

‘Still as cocky as ever…’ Misty allowed herself to smile. ‘I still love that about you…’

“Modest are you?” May asked sardonically.

Though it looks as if it’s over

I’m still not over you

‘As much as I hate myself for loving you, I can’t harm your two… Love is something I refuse to interfere in…’ Misty sighed. ‘Unlike you, Ash. You broke Dan and me apart!’

“Modesty is b.s May. Ego is my favorite word.” Ash laughed.

They stood that way for a while, staring off into space then suddenly-

“I feel bad for Misty…”

“Yeah, me too…”

‘Cause I still love you like I did before

I know for sure that you still feel the same way I do

If only she knew

Whoa, if only she knew, oh

‘Feels bad?!’ Misty growled. ‘That’s it?! He should feel terrible after what he did to me!’

“I lied to her… and I wish I hadn’t…” Ash sighed. “She didn’t deserve it.”

‘Aww…’ Misty smiled lightly. ‘At least he still has some heart left in him…’

I try to let it go

But I don’t know if I can take it

‘Cause the way you looked at me

Made me see that I can’t really fake it

“I know what you mean Ash… Oh I wish we hadn’t done it…” May groaned.

“Still, it was done and now we should say sorry right?” Ash looked down at her. “I never thought I’d have to lie like that. I mean… to her of all people…”

“She was our best friend.” May nodded solemnly.

‘Oh Ash… That’s sweet… May you’ve changed… You’re not the same snobbish girl from six years ago…’ Misty looked at her with a small smile. ‘I guess I’m not the same either… We’ve all changed… Except…’ Misty looked down at Ash wistfully, tears brimming her eyelashes. ‘I still love you like I did before and that just won’t change at all.’

‘Cause I still love you like I did before

I know for sure that you still feel the same way I do

If only she knew

‘But…’ she looked away determinedly, eyes set. ‘May loves you. She’s your girlfriend so I can’t love you.’ She closed her eyes, willing the tears away. ‘It’s time I moved on with my life an forget you Ash, for good.’

I know she loves you and I can’t interfere

So I’ll just have to sit back and watch my world disappear

Misty heaved a sigh and carefully and skillfully climbed to the other side of the tree and climbed down. She walked with her Marril towards her apartment where Dan was waiting for her answer. She looked straight ahead, eyes dry and unwaveringly walked towards her new future.

“May, we have to talk…” Ash sighed. “Look a week ago I was alone with Misty and…”

“Ash, you don’t have to tell me anything…” May replied. “I can tell from the looks in your eyes… You love her still… and she loves you… Just remember this Ash…” she kissed him lightly on the cheek, “I’ll always be here for you and I will never stop loving you… Misty will never love you like I do but I won’t interfere.” She smiled. “You two were mean for each other and I was stupid enough to try and destroy that bond you share.”

“May…” Ash sighed stroking her cheek fondly. He smiled and caught her in a hug. “Thanks.”

“Just promise me something Ash.” May whispered, voice muffled against his shoulder.

“Sure anything.” Ash let her go and put his hand on her shoulders.

“Don’t screw up this one up.” May winked. “If you do then be warned that I will borrow Misty’s mallet and pummel you to the ground.”

Ash laughed and caught her in a tight embrace, “Don’t worry, I won’t.”

Misty walked into her apartment and saw no one there. She sighed and headed to the roof. Here she found Dan swinging alone on the swing set while the rest of her friends were within the greenhouse playing with their children. She walked up to him, breathing in deep, sure of her choice she was about to make…

“Dan…?”

“Yes?”

“I do…”

Dan looked up at her in astonishment then nodded, grinning. Misty smiled and laughed as he switched places with her hurriedly, setting her on the swing as she stood before her and added, “Well, I better do this right.” He got down on one knee and took out a black velvet box. Opening it, he went on. “Misty Waterflower, will you marry me, Daniel Everwaters, the father of our daughter Amy Everwaters?”

“Yes!” Misty exclaimed letting go of Marril and rushed forward to hug him tight.

Dan put the turquoise ring on her finger as they held each other tightly. He laughed in her ear and he could feel her smile against his cheek.

Their friends saw the couple embracing and began to cheer happily. Dan had proposed and Misty had accepted; all their problems were beginning to fade away into nothingness… or at least they thought they were…
