Disclaimer: I don't own pokémon. I only own my character and 'pathetic'.

I sighed, shoulders sagging wearily, as I walked out of the pokécenter. Stopping just outside the door, I looked up to the sky as if it had the answers to the problems that were troubling me. To say I was having a bad day would be an understatement. Currently, I was at an all time low. I headed over to a nearby bench to organize my thoughts.

Other trainers would have laughed at me if they saw me now. A 15 year old girl, I had been training for over a year now, who only had three pokémon, none of which were fully evolved. I was only on my fourth gym and had been pounded to a pulp by the gym leader. Ya, I thought to myself, I’m pathetic.

My troubles had started with my arrival in Ecruteak City. I was currently on my journey and it was the next stop. After entering the city, I did the first thing most trainers did. After asking for directions from a shop owner, I found myself standing outside of the Ecruteak City Gym. The large, imposing building couldn’t drown my optimistic spirit as I stepped inside for what I hoped would be an easy victory.

I knew my type advantages well enough to know that I was at a slight disadvantage since my Gloom was weak to Poison attacks. Still, I had the confidence of someone who thinks that they are the hero in a story where evil never wins.

It took me a long time to make it through the invisible maze that was in the gym. I loved pokémon battles, but the traps in gyms were just annoying! By the time I made it too Morty, the gym leader, I had to head back outside to heal my pokémon.

Finally, after slamming my face into three invisible walls, I made it to Morty for my gym battle. It started out as a decent battle. Both of us showed skill in the use of our pokémon, but the battle quickly turned in his favor. I was a fan of big, powerful attacks which caused large amounts of damage. I didn’t like to cause status ailments and ignored type advantages for the most part. Morty was the opposite. He loved to torment me by putting my pokémon to sleep or poisoning them to sap all their HP. I hate people who battle like that, if only because they always beat me.

By the end of that battle, two things were badly hurt. My pokémon and my pride. I think my pride got the worse end of the deal however. After turning over my pokémon to Nurse Joy, I had settled down for the night with the hope that some more training would guarantee me the upper hand against Morty.

I awoke to find things just as bad, if not worse than the day before. Nurse Joy was gone. In her place was a grumpy doctor who obviously didn’t know how to run the pokécenter. It took him three hours just to find my pokémon and heal them. That was all the events that had brought me close to a nervous breakdown. I shook my head to clear away my depressing thoughts and rose from the bench. Training will help me clear my head. All I need is a good, long walk in the woods and a few victories under my belt before I’ll feel better again. I turned toward the road out of town and started walking. I was just about to leave the town when I heard someone calling me.

“Excuse me! Miss!” I stopped. Sighing, I turned around slowly, hoping that whoever it was would leave me alone. An Officer Jenny pulled up beside me on her motorcycle. My heart skipped a beat. Why would an Officer Jenny want me? I’ve never done anything wrong! My mouth was dry with fear and my palms were beginning to sweat. I mentally forced myself to relax. It is probably just a misunderstanding.

“Miss, would your name happen to be Jamie Burnek?” Whatever I had been expecting, that wasn’t it.

“No.” I replied, recovering from my shock and looking at her quizzically. She looked like any other Jenny, the same perfectly straight blue and gold uniform and hat with her thick blue-green hair hanging around her shoulders. Jenny’s were all alike and not just their names either. They never had a single hair out of place or a speck of dirt on their uniform. Their voices were even identical! “No, my name is Jamie Galen.”

Now it was her turn to look confused as she pulled out a clipboard from somewhere on her motorcycle. Her brow furrowed for a moment as she looked at her papers but then she smiled and nodded. “Alright. Please come with me.”

“Excuse me?” Startled at her request, I nearly screamed, earning me strange looks from the people passing by. My thoughts were racing a mile a minute, thinking about the implications of what she had just said. I felt trapped in a corner with nowhere to run. I’m innocent, why is she taking me in? “What did you say?”

The Officer got onto her motorcycle and gestured behind her, talking like it was the most obvious thing in the world. “I said; please come with me.” Her voice registered a hint of impatience.

My brain had given up trying to process the information it was receiving. It had reached the conclusion that it didn’t know what was going on. Stunned, I could do nothing but join her on the motorcycle as she sped toward the police station.
