Title: Enter The Dark Mew! Author: Diamond Eevie Part: 0 Email: garyoak@bellsouth.net Category: General AUTHOR'S NOTE: Well, the season finale for Johto Journeys has finally arrived. Can you believe that Gary only got one brief cameo in the last six months while the utterly useless Team Rocket is still featured in every single episode? This is getting old. No, it's been old. Now it's getting sick. (sigh) Anyway, I'm sure some of you are wondering how Gary has been doing in Johto so far. Well, that's what I'm here for! What say we start with how Gary won his first Johto badge and met a couple of new friends. (Sort of.) Well, time to get this story started! Enter The Dark Mew! Gary felt good as he walked briskly down the dusky brown trail. The wind blew through his fiery red hair as he looked around, enjoying the serene scenery of the countryside. He was well on his way. He had already caught a bunch of powerful new pokemon, had registered into the Johto League in New Bark Town, and was now less than half a mile away from Shaw Town, where he planned to win his first Johto League badge. His stomach rumbled, reminding him that he was hungry. He spotted a large boulder laying ahead and to the side of the trail. "Well, I guess I can take a small break", Gary said to himself. He walked over, sat down on the boulder and stretched his arms. He then opened his duffel bag and started searching through it. "Hmmm, let's see", he said. "I know I have a half-eaten sandwich in here somewhere." Suddenly he heard a scream. Gary jumped up. "What the heck was that!?", he said, alarmed. The scream he heard sounded way too high pitched to have come from a human. He looked frantically around until he heard the scream again. This time he pinpointed where the scream was coming from. 'It's coming from that way!', he thought as he turned to the right. He picked up his duffel bag and ran eastward off the path. Gary ran until he came upon a small clearing by a lake, where he saw a strange and alarming sight. There were three Officer Jennys and a fat, bald man in a brown suit standing there in a small circle. They were all holding the corners of a huge net. Entangled in the center of the net, screaming and struggling madly, was a small, black cat-like creature with big feet and a long, thin tail. "What kind of pokemon is that?", Gary wondered out loud. He held up his pokedex and pointed it at the creature. "Mew, the rare psychic pokemon", said Dexter's mechanical voice. "It is the rarest pokemon in the world. Legends say that it is also the most powerful, it's psychic powers being unrivaled by any other living pokemon." "Impressive", Gary said to himself. "I'd have liked to be the one who caught that pokemon, but it looks like somebody beat me to the punch." Gary scrutinized through narrow eyes how the three policewomen and the chubby, bald man were ganging up on the ensnared and helpless Mew. There were even three growlithes there, watching the Mew closely. "That's a strange way to catch a pokemon", he said thoughtfully. "Well, I guess it's legal, since the police are involved." He still continued to study the situation through narrow eyes. "Hehehe! We did it!", said the fat, hairless man. "We finally did it! Now we can put this little monster away!" Gary's brow furrowed when he heard that. 'Monster?', he thought as he looked at the Mew. "We'd better hurry", said one of the Officer Jennys. "It's stronger than it looks. It could break free at any second." "Ah, but not if we knock it out first", said the fat man slyly. "Now hold it still", he commanded as he held up a small, thin metal stick. Gary's eyes widened with disbelief. "That's a cattleprod!", he said incredulously. "He can't be serious! I've got to do something!" Gary rushed forward, running straight towards the fat man. "Hey! Stop it!", Gary yelled angrily. "Huh?", said the husky man before he was tackled and knocked to the ground. "Owww!", said the man a! s he landed on his duff. His cattleprod slipped from his hand and hit one of the Officer Jennys in the face. Hard. "Auuurgh!", cried the officer as she brought her hands up and covered her nose. Now that two of it's captors had released their hold on the net Mew saw it's chance to break free. It rushed towards the now unattended side of the net. "Look out! It's trying to get away!", yelled the fat man. But it was too late. The Mew had slipped free of the net and was now flying through the air. "Mew! Mew! Mew!", it squealed happily. The growlithes tried to jump and grab the Mew down out of the air, but it was to no avail, for the Mew was already starting to fly away. "No! It can't be!", cried the fat man in despair as he watched the small, ebony colored creature getting away. He then turned and faced Gary. "You...you...delinquant!", he spat out, enraged. "Do you realize what you have done!?" "The name's Gary Oak", Gary growled. "And anyone worthy enough to call themself a trainer would have done the same. Just what the heck were you thinking!? You can't use a cattleprod on a small pokemon like that! Are you nuts!?" Gary felt a strong hand grip his shoulder. He turned around to face one of the three Officer Jennys. This one's nose was red and swollen. "Young man, you have interfered with police business", she said angrily. Gary just shrugged her hand off. "Police business. Yeah, right", he snarled. "Listen, lady. There was nothing legal about what that guy was about to do. And if you were any kind of real cop, you would have tried to stop him." The three growlithes growled angrily. "Watch your words, young man", said one of the other two Officer Jennys. "Yeah, we knew what we were doing", said the other one. "That Mew you just set free was a thief." "And a member of Team Rocket besides", said the fat man in the brown suit as he struggled to stand. "You have just loosed on society one dangerous pokemon." "Dangerous!? That pokemon didn't look dangerous to me", Gary said. "You were the one holding the cattlepro! d. So what does that make you?" The Officer Jenny with the swollen nose brought out a pair of handcuffs. "Young man, you are under arrest", she said sternly. As if on cue the three growlithes surrounded Gary, watching his every move. Gary snorted in contempt. "You should be the ones under arrest", he snapped disrespectfully. He reached for one of the pokeballs at his waist and was stunned to suddenly find himself knocked flat on his back and pinned to the ground by one of the three angry growlithes. "Hey! Get off me!", Gary yelled as he struggled to free himself. "I-I can't move!" "Our growlithes are highly trained", said the Jenny with the swollen nose. "They must have sensed that you were about to do something stupid, like resist arrest." She took a few more steps toward Gary. "Now don't make this any harder than it has to be", she warned. "Young man", said the obese man, "If I were you, I wouldn't cause these ladies any more trouble. My advise to you is to give up now, before you dig yourself in any deeper." "Dammit!", Gary growled, agitated. He didn't know what was going on here, but he knew he was right when he did what he did. They had no right to arrest him. Suddenly Gary felt the pressure of growlithe's paws begin to lighten, and the growlithe that was pinning him gave a startled snort as it suddenly found itself floating in the air. "Huh? What on earth...?", began the fat man before he, the three policewomen, and the other two growlithes wound up floating in the air as well. "Wha-what's happening!?", cried the obese man in alarm. "What is going on!?" Gary could only stare up at them in bewuilderment. "What the...?", he uttered. "Look! Over there!", yelled one of the Officer Jennys as she pointed. "It's that loathesome, troublemaking Mew!", snarled the chubby man. "That's what's causing this!" Gary looked and, sure enough, saw the same black Mew he had rescued a few minutes earlier. The small creature was pointing one of it's tiny fingers at it's former captors and it's eyes were glowing. The obese! man, the three female cops, and the three growlithes slowly drifted to the left until they were floating directly over the lake. "You wouldn't dare", the fat man growled at the Mew. The Mew merely giggled and waved goodbye, and the three Jennys, the three canine pokemon, and the fat, bald man all landed in the lake with a gigantic splash. Mew giggled uncontrollably as it's enemies swam about, trying desperately to get out of the cold water as fast as they could. "G-get them b-b-both!", yelled the Officer Jenny with the red, swollen nose. She was the first one out of the water and was shaking with cold and rage. "G-grab-b the boy and th-the Mew! D-don't let them escape!" Gary braced himself. He was all for using his own pokemon to teach these losers a lesson. Mew flew over to Gary's side and floated there beside him. It's eyes started to glow again. Suddenly a bright light appeared. It was so bright that Gary had to cover his eyes. A few seconds later Gary brought his hand down from his eyes....and was seriously surprised at what he saw. He was right back on the trail to Shaw Town, right beside the boulder he was about to eat lunch on earlier! "Wha!!?? What just happened!?", Gary exclaimed. Suddenly the dark colored Mew flew past him and landed on the boulder. It looked up at Gary with it's wide, green eyes. "Mew", it squeaked. Gary walked over to the Mew and looked down at it. "Did you just use a teleport attack to bring me here?", He asked the pokemon. Mew squeaked and clapped it's tiny hands jovially. Gary observed the Mew's light- hearted behavior. "You sure don't seem dangerous at all to me", Gary said wonderingly. "Are you really part of Team Rocket?" Mew flew up to Gary's face and gently licked him on the tip of his nose. Gary looked at Mew for a minute. He then picked up his duffel bag and slung it over his shoulder. "Stay out of trouble", Gary said before turning around and continuing his journey to Shaw. Mew sat there, cocked it's head to the side, and watched Gary as he walked away. "You'd better! get going, Mew", Gary called over his shoulder. "Those three disturbed cop ladies and that fat guy in the brown suit could be coming this way." Mew still sat there and continued to watch Gary until he was out of sight. It then floated up into the air and flew forward like a shooting star, straight towards Gary and Shaw Town. Gary stretched his arms and legs and grinned as he looked around at the beautiful, garden surrounded town of Shaw. He made it! He was finally in the town where he would win his very first Johto League badge. Gary's grin turned into a dark and arrogant smirk as he thought about the challenge ahead. The Gym Leader in this town, some guy who went by the name of Shane, was known to be one of the hardest to beat. In fact, he was so hard that trainers rarely started their badge earning in this town, preferring instead to begin with towns that had Gym Leaders that were less challenging. Gary was determined not to be like those other wimpy trainers. He wanted the road he took to the Johto League to be as difficult and challenging as possible. He knew the experience would prove useful, not just in the Johto League, but in his goal to become the world's most powerful pokemon master. He was suddenly startled from his thoughts by a little boy jumping up right in front of him and waving a newspaper in his face. "Extree! Extree! Read all about it!", the paperboy yelled. "The Dark Mew and Team Rocketeer Aurora Eve spotted near Shaw! Would you like to buy a paper, mister?" Gary was about to decline when he suddenly saw the front page of the paper, which displayed two large face portraits. One of them was the portrait of a black Mew with big green eyes. "What the...!?", Gary said in surprise. He took the paper from the boy and looked at it. It was a picture of the same black Mew he had saved earlier! Gary was sure of it. And the picture beside it....Gary had never before seen such a lovely young lady. Her hair was red and long and slightly curly, and it was tied up in a ponytail. Her skin was peachy and smooth looking. Her lips, which were turned up in a childishly playful smile, were thin and cherry red. And her eyes were the most striking feature she had. Thet were large, clear, and emerald green, just like the eyes of the black Mew whose portrait was right beside hers. In fact, as Gary looked at the two pictures togethe! r, he couldn't help but notice that their eyes looked very similar to each other's. Practically identical even.... "Ahem", said a boy's impatient voice. Gary looked down and saw the paperboy with his hand held out expectantly. "Oh, right. Sorry", Gary apologized. He reached into his pocket and brought out a five dollar bill. "Here, keep the change", Gary said as he handed the boy the money. "Thanks, mister", the boy said. "Hey, you're a pokemon trainer aren't you?" "Yep. The name's Gary Oak", Gary said proudly. "I'm on my way to the Johto League." "The gym in this town is down this street to the left", the paperboy said. "Be careful, though. The Gym Leader there has some seriously powerful pokemon." "Ha, he's no match for me", Gary said with an arrogant smirk. "Just watch me. I'll be in and out of that gym with a new badge in no more than five minutes." With that, Gary marched proudly towards the gym, his head and spirits high. Gary didn't care how powerful the Gym Leader in this town was. He wasn't leaving this town without a badge. That meant he wasn't leaving this town without kicking some serious Gym Leader butt. Gary looked at the sign on the door of the gym and sighed with impatience. "Closed. Come back later", He read out loud. He then turned around and looked at the rest of the flowery town of Shaw. "Well, I guess this will give me some time to go sight-seeing", he said to himself. "Or I can just sit here and read some more of this newspaper until the Gym Leader shows up." He sat down on the steps in front of the gym and started reading the paper he'd bought earlier. This was what it read.... SHOCKING AND ALARMING NEWS FOR THE TOWNSPEOPLE OF SHAW!! Aurora Eve and the Dark Mew, two of Team Rocket's most notorious agents, have been spotted near Shaw Town. They are known to be two of the most successful burglars in history, stealing many things from expensive jewelry from the wealthy to priceless paintings from meuseums. They have never been seen together but it is highly probable that the Dark Mew may belong to Aurora Eve, for whenever one of them is spotted the other is usually seen later nearby. It is highly rumored that they have come to Shaw to steal the priceless Diamond Eevie from the local meuseum. The Diamond Eevie is a cultural treasure to Shaw, the sculpture of an eevie carved out of diamond by the very first mayor of Shaw Town. Mayor Wellington, the current mayor of Shaw, has teamed up with the three residing Officer Jennys of Shaw. Together, they have declared that they will insure the safety of the Diamond Eevie and hopefully bring the two scoundrels to justice. Gary saw a picture of the mayor printed in the corner of the paper. It was the same chubby man in the brown suit he had seen earlier. "Hmm, so that's what that was all about", Gary said thoughtfully. "Well, I'm still not sorry for what I did. Crook or no crook, no pokemon should be handled like that." Gary looked once again at the picture of the pretty red-haired girl. "Sure is a shame", he said to himself. "She's awful cute..." "Hey you", Gary suddenly heard a gruff voice say. Gary looked up and saw a scruffy looking boy in blue jeans and a tank top. The boy's blonde hair fell like a mop over his head, and there was a confident grin on his face. "The paperboy told me there was a new trainer in town", the boy said. "So, you think you got what it takes to take on Shane, huh?" Gary jumped up. "I've got more than what it takes, kid", he said with an arrogant smirk. "Zat so? Why don't you put your money where your mouth is?", said the kid as he held up a pokeball. "One on one. No time limit. Whaddya say?" Gary merely grinned. "Kid, you don't know who you're dealing with", he warned confidently. "But I'm sure my pokemon wouldn't mind a little warm-up exercise before the badge battle. Let's go." The boy released a Mareep from his pokeball and Gary released his Arcanine. For a moment the opponents and their pokemon just stared tensely at each other. Then the blonde haired boy made his move. "Tackle attack, now!", he yelled to his Mareep. Mareep yelled a battle cry and rushed Arcanine. Arcanine merely yawned at the approaching Mareep. He and Gary knew how to deal with upstart trainers and their fledgeling pokemon. "Arcanine, use your tackle attack", Gary said with a calm grin. Arcanine practically flew towards Mareep. When the two pokemon collided the Mareep found itself knocked back at least three yards. "Reeeee!", the Mareep bleated in surprise as it slid on it's back on the ground. "Whoa!", the boy exclaimed. The speed and strength Gary's Arcanine displayed nearly took his breath away. "Now, use bite attack", G! ary commanded. Arcanine rushed over towards Mareep, his fangs bared. "Mareep! Get outta there!", the blonde kid yelled desperately. Mareep jumped to it's feet and leaped aside, barely avoiding a vicious assault by Arcanine's sharp-toothed jaws. "Now use thunderbolt attack!", the kid yelled. "Arcanine, use your fire blast", Gary said. Mareep let forward with a strong electric attack at the same time Arcanine released a powerful fireball. Their attacks met halfway, creating a gigantic explosion. When the dust cleared the two pokemon were standing there glaring at each other. Mareep was panting heavily. "Had enough?", Gary sneered at the blonde boy. "I'm just getting started!", the boy yelled back. "Mareep, use your headbutt attack!" Mareep sped towards Arcanine with it's head lowered. Gary just smirked and shook his head. "It's time to end this", he stated. "Arcanine, use your flamethrower." Arcanine opened his mouth and a gigantic wave of searing flame flowed from his mouth and engulfed Mareep. The blonde kid cried out in alarm. He knew now that Gary was no amateur when it came to training pokemon. When the fire cleared Mareep was laying on his back on the ground. It squeaked weakly, it's will to fight long gone. "Guess I win", Gary said arrogantly. "Not to say you didn't do pretty good yourself, kid." The boy recalled his Mareep back into it's pokeball. "Ahh, stuff it", the boy said shortly before running off down the street. "Hmph", said Gary as he recalled his Arcanine back into it's pokeball. "Poor sport." "Good work! I knew you'd win", said a cheerful voice. Startled, Gary jumped and started looking around. "Who said that?", he asked. Gary was answered by a giggle. "Yooohooo! Up here!", said a girl's voice. Gary looked up and saw, standing right there on the roof of the gym with her hands on her hips, the very same girl who's picture was in the paper he had been reading earlier. Although he was startled, Gary couldn't help but notice that the girl had a nice figure. Nevertheless, it was a figure clothe! d in a red shorts and shirt Team Rocket uniform. "You!", Gary said as he took a step back. "You're that Team Rocket chick......Aurora Eve!" "In the flesh!", said the girl cheerfully. She flipped lightly down off the roof and landed easily on her feet right beside Gary. "And you are?", she asked as she eyed Gary with green eyes sparkling with mischief. Dangerous mischief. "Leaving", Gary said as he turned around and started walking away. "Hey, wait up, handsome!", said Aurora with a coy smile as she grabbed Gary's arm. "I only want to know your name." "Hey, let go of my arm!", Gary said. "Aww, come on", pouted Aurora. "It's not fair that you know my name and I don't get to know yours." "My name is Gary Oak", Gary snapped. "Now will you please let go of my arm?" "Gary Oak?", said Aurora with a surprised look. "The Gary Oak from Pallet Town?" Gary was taken aback. "Uh,... yeah. How'd you know?", he asked. "Are you kidding?", Aurora said with a smirk. "Everyone knows you! No wonder that blonde kid lost to you so quickly! You're a super elite trainer! At least that's what everyone says about you. No one ever mentioned how cute you were." Then Aurora did something Gary never expected. She unbuttoned her shirt and opened it, revealing the black bra she wore. A black see-thru bra. "So how about it, handsome?", she said with a coy wink. "I don't meet a lot of celebrities. Will you autograph one of my boobs for me?" Gary's face turned completely red. "No I will not!", he yelled before turning his back on her. "Hmph, KISS would have done it", Aurora pouted playfully. "Oh, and by the way, I want to thank you for what you did for my friend earlier." "Huh?", Gary said, turning back around. "What are you talking about?" "You know, the Mew you saved from those three nasty cops and that fat load of a mayor", Aurora answered as she buttoned her shirt back up. "That Mew is my friend. I wanted to thank you for saving her." Gary's eyes narrowed. "How did you find out about that?", he asked, suspicious. Aurora looked up at him ! and smiled mischievously. "Mew told me", she said. "She told me everything that happened." Gary arched an eyebrow. "Did you just say 'Mew' told you?", he asked. "Mmmhmm", Aurora said. "She told me about how a knight in shining armor swooped out of the blue and snatched her away from the jaws of three evil police dogs...(Aurora giggled)...and their growlithes." Gary surprised himself by actually chuckling at Aurora's joke. "Better not let any Officer Jennys hear you say that", he warned. Aurora merely laughed light-heartedly. "Oh, please", she said jovially. "Those cow faced flat-footed cops mean less than nothing to me." Suddenly Aurora looked past Gary's shoulder and smiled. "Well speak o' the devil", she said. Gary turned around and beheld an Officer Jenny pointing a gun at both him and Aurora. There was a bandage on her nose. "Well, fancy meeting you here", said the angry law enforcer to Gary. "And not in the best of company I see." Aurora smiled brightly and waved. "Seeing you with her", Officer Jenny continued, "only confirms our earlier suspicions that you are in league with Team Rocket." "What!? What the hell are you talking about!? I'm not in league with Team Rocket!", Gary yelled angrily. "Getting hit in the face with that cattleprod must have scrambled your brain or something!" "That's assuming she has a brain to scramble", Aurora chimed. "You two are under arrest", Officer Jenny said in a commanding voice. At that moment two other Officer Jennys rode up beside her on motorcycles. Gary assumed they were most likely the same two Jennys that were with the third one earlier. "You found them", said one of the Jennys on a motorcycle. "Now we can bring them both to justice", said the other one. "This town doesn't put up with crooks." "Damn", Gary growled under his breath. He came to this town to win himself a badge, not to become one of Johto's Most Wanted. Suddenly Aurora walked forward and stood in front of Gary. "Ya know what?", said Aurora with an evil grin as she faced the three cops with her hand! s on her hips. "Two's company, and five's a crowd. We were having an A and B conversation with each other until you three butted in. Now why don't you three take your bad manners and your warped taste in clothing somewhere up the block, huh?" Gary looked at her, amazed at the immense disrespect she was showing towards a police officer holding a gun. 'She's either ballsy to the extreme or just plain nuts', he thought to himself. 'Maybe both.' "I'm warning you, little girl", said the Jenny with the bandaged nose as she leveled her gun. "Don't move." Aurora only laughed with contempt. "So, you want to do this the hard way", she said in a dangerous voice. "Fine. I'll teach you to screw with me." She reached into her pocket and pulled out a small metal orb. With a chuckle she lightly tossed it forward. It bounced four times before it landed at the feet of the Officer Jenny with the gun. "What...?", was all the officer had time to say before the orb suddenly beeped and split in half, emitting an extremely bright light right under the officer's nose. "Arrrghh!", the policewoman cried as she covered her eyes. That was when Aurora made her move. She ran forward and with a swift and powerful kick relieved the officer of her gun. She then jumped up into the air, grabbed the gun, and with a cool backflip landed lightly on her feet and was pointing the gun at the three law enforcers before they were even hardly aware of what happened. "That was too easy", Aurora said with a cocky smirk. "You guys must be the worst police officers in the history of the world." Gary stared at Aurora in amazement. "What the heck...was that!?", was all he could bring himself to say. "What, that?", Aurora said as she pointed the gun at the metal orb halves on the ground. "That was my flash attack." "Your....flash attack!?", Gary stammered, still trying to process what he had just seen happen. "I'll explain later", Aurora assured him. She then waved her gun at the three cops. "You three look tired", she said with a grin. "Why don't you take ! a nap? Lie face-down on the concrete. Now." The three policewomen obeyed, frustration and anger clearly etched across their faces. "You won't get away with this", said one of the Jennys as she laid face-down near her motorcycle. "Shut your cake hole, cop", Aurora snarled as she walked calmly over, her gun still trained on the three Jennys, and sat down on the seat of one of the motorcycles. "Mmmm, comfy", she said in approval. She then patted the empty space behind her on the seat and looked up at Gary. "Room for one more", she said with a childishly playful grin. "Wha!? No way!", Gary said, backing up. "I'm already in enough trouble, thanks to you!" "Um, kid?", Aurora said with an arched eyebrow, "Do you really wanna stick around and see what the law does to kids they don't like? Awful hard becoming a pokemon master when you're serving twenty five to life." "I won't be serving anything", Gary snapped. "I'll just tell my grandpa everything that happened. He'll side with me." "Yeah, right", Aurora said with a smirk. "It'll be your word against the word of three Officer Jenny's. Good luck, kid." Gary's eyes narrowed as he reflected on what Aurora said. He hated to admit it, but she was right. His grandfather would probably side with the police, thinking that Gary had somehow broken the law. He'd be really mad, not to mention extremely disappointed. With a sigh, Gary picked up his duffel bag, walked over and sat down behind Aurora on the bike. 'I can't believe I'm doing this', he thought to himself. "You sure you know how to ride this thing?", Gary asked as he wrapped his arms around Aurora's waist. "Of course I'm sure", Aurora said with a grin. "I've seen it done on T.V. lots of times." "Famous last words", Gary muttered before Aurora started the motorbike and they sped down the street, leaving the three Officer Jennys in dust. As the bike carried the two children further down the road Gary reflected on the events of the day in silence. He was now officially a fugitive from the law, running from the police with one of Team Rocket's most notorious agents on the back of a stolen police motorcycle. 'If only grampa could see me now', he thought miserably. "Keep your eyes and ears open", said Aurora. "Those three cops must have radioed-in for reinforcements by now. We might be headed for some trouble." "Headed for trouble!?", Gary said. "You mean we're not knee-deep in trouble now!?" "Nah", said Aurora light-heartedly. "Rule number one in Team Rocket philosophy is: You're only in trouble if you get caught." Suddenly they heard sirens coming from behind them. "What's that?", Gary asked nervously, hoping it wasn't what he knew it was. "Trouble", Aurora answered as she sped up the motorcycle. Gary turned his head to look, and sure enough he saw what he feared. A squadron of police cars were coming up behind them. Fast. Aurora laughed like a lunatic. "Alright! Now the fun begins!", she yelled jovially. "Fasten your seat belt, it's gonna be a bumpy ride!" "You're crazy!!", Gary yelled. "You call this fun!?" Gary got no answer. Instead Aurora began weaving through traffic on the motorcycle, going at breakneck speed. The police cars sped up, trying to catch up to them. Gary just tightened his grip around Aurora's waist and prayed to whatever god was watching him that he'd somehow get out of this safely. "Hey, cool!", Aurora suddenly yelled happily. "Check it out! There's a roadblock ahead! They must want us bad!" Gary looked and saw the roadblock, which consisted of at least six police cars and no less than twelve policemen standing behind the cars with their guns drawn and pointed forward. "Now what do we do?", Gary snarled, agitated. He simply did not want his grandfather to see him in jail. That was an experience he could do without. "Hang on!", Aurora said as she suddenly jerked the bike to the left. "We're going to the mall!" Gary was ! justifiably alarmed when he saw the bike was headed for the big glass window of a small mall. "You're kidding, right!?", he asked anxiously a few seconds before the bike crashed through the window. People screamed and yelled as they scattered to get out of the way of the motorbike as it roared down the polished floor of the mall, breaking anything nearby that was breakable. Aurora licked her lips and smiled as she rode by a Friedman's jewelry store and saw the beautiful gold and pracious stones it displayed. "This would be a nice place for a heist. I should remember this location", Aurora said lightly. Gary said nothing. He was starting to get scared. He now knew Aurora was seriously insane. 'What have I gotten myself into?', he thought. They rode on through the mall, one time nearly running over an old couple (which Gary was sure she did on purpose), until they finally reached the other end of the shopping center. The exit doors were blocked off by mall security. "Gimme a break", Aurora said as she rolled her eyes. "Don't they know by now that I rarely use doors?" "This is mall security!", yelled one of the uniformed men ahead through a bullhorn. "Stop the bike now and dismount with your hands up!" "As if", Aurora snorted as she aimed the bike for one of the big windows by the exit doors. "Whoooaa!!", Gary cried out in alarm. Once again the two children crashed through a window on the bike and sped down the street. They rode on in silence for a couple of minutes before they heard sirens coming up from behind them again. "Sheesh! Obsessed, much?", Aurora said with a smirk. She sped the bike up and they roared down the street, straight for a bridge. The police were in hot pursuit. Aurora sped the bike a ways down the bridge, and was surprised to see a roadblock just ahead on the other side. She stopped the bike, but by then she knew it was too late. The cops behind them had already blocked off the other side of the bridge. "Dammit", she cursed her carelessness. "I should've known it was a trap." "So now wha! t?", Gary asked, irritated. Aurora sat there for a few seconds, thinking. Suddenly a bright smile crossed her face. "Hey, Gary", she said with a mischievous gleam in her eye. "You swim?" "Huh?", Gary asked, bewuildered. "I said 'do you swim'?", Aurora repeated. "It's a simple question to answer." "Yeah, I swim", Gary answered. "What's that got to do with...." Suddenly Gary blanched as he realized what Aurora was about to do. "No way", Gary said. "This is where I get off. I'll take my chances with the law." "Oh, don't be such a scaredy-cat", Aurora chided. "This'll be fun!" Without another word and before Gary could jump off the bike, Aurora sped the bike towards the left side of the bridge. "Stop!!", Gary yelled fearfully, but Aurora wasn't listening. Before Gary knew it he was careening off the side of the bridge, falling straight towards the water. Gary screamed on the way down, knowing for sure that he was going to die. A few seconds later he, Aurora, and the bike all landed in the lake with a splash. Gary burst through the surface of the water, gasping for air. The impact of hitting the water nearly knocked him out, but the freezing temperature of the lake kept him awake. 'That crazy girl', Gary thought angrily. 'I could have drowned!' He looked around, hoping to spot Aurora so he could cuss her out. He saw no sign of her. 'Where is she?', Gary thought. 'I don't see her. I hope she's okay.' Gary dove down into the water and looked around for as long as he could, hoping to spot her. His search was unsuccessful. He came back up for air and again searched his surroundings. 'Maybe she resurfaced somewhere', he thought anxiously. But still he saw no trace of her. "Where could she be?", he wondered out loud. "I hope she didn't...." "Look! There!", cried a voice from above. Gary looked up and saw a squadron of police officers looking down on him from the bridge. The three Officer Jennys were there as well. "Are you crazy!?", exclaimed the Jenny with the bandaged nose. "Do you realize the danger you just put yourself in?" "Huh?", Gary responded. "That water is full of wild goldeen and seakings!", said one of the other Jennys. "They'll attack you for sure if they see you!" Suddenly, a few yards away, out of the lake leaped the biggest seaking Gary had ever seen. Gary observed how humongous and beautiful it was as it practically soared into the sky and fell back into the water with a splash. Gary then observed with alarm how the fish sailed through the water straight towards his direction. "Uh-oh", Gary said to himself. He knew for a fact that goldeen and seakings were extremely territorial. And the fact that Gary was not dumped into the lake by his choice probably wouldn't matter much to the angry water pokemon. If it so much as grazed Gary with that gigantic poisonous stinger on top of it's head.... Gary dove down into the water and swam as hard as he could, trying his best to get away from the seaking. But even as he tried he knew it was futile, for no human could ever outswim such a powerful water pokemon. H! e suddenly felt a sharp pain in his back and knew the seaking had punctured him with it's stinger. Gary cried out in fear, knowing it would now be only a matter of seconds before the poison started taking affect. The seaking swam past Gary and made a sharp U-turn in the water. It was ready to attack again and finish the job. Suddenly the seaking was blasted from the side by a powerful energy bolt. It was the Mew whom Gary had rescued earlier! It was now trying to save him! Gary was glad, for his muscles had already cramped up and his body was rapidly becoming paralysed. The effects of the seaking's poison sting had begun. The seaking charged the black Mew angrily, ready to show it's challenger who the king of the lake was. Mew looked far from worried. It simply blasted seaking with a powerful psybeam attack. Seaking went reeling backwards from the attack. When it finally gained control of itself it swam swiftly away, knowing that it was no match for Mew. When the seaking left Mew swam over to Gary. It cradled Gary's face with it's tiny paws and stared intently at him with it's large, emerald colored eyes. Gary smiled. Somehow, he knew he was perfectly safe now and everything would be alright. Even as the poison in his body rapidly started making him drowsy, he had no fear whatsoever for his welfare. Somehow he knew that as long as Mew was there he was in good hands. His eyelids started to grow very heavy.... Gary woke up with a start. He quickly sat up and looked around. It was nighttime. He was in a forest laying on a small, cushiony cot and covered by a thin blanket. He observed his surroundings. Someone had brought him here and set up camp. There was a large, fancy tent nearby, a campfire was burning, and some clothes were hanging up on a wire that was tied to a few tree branches. 'Wait a minute', Gary thought as he scrutinized the clothes. 'Isn't that my shirt? And my pants? And my UNDERWEAR?' Gary looked down under his blanket and saw that, sure enough, he was naked. "Geez!", Gary said. "I'd better get my clothes back on, now!" He wrapped his thin blanket around his waist and got up and started walking over to his clothes. "Hiyyeee! Nice to see you awake!", said a cheerful female voice. Gary wound his blanket tighter around his waist as he whirled to face Aurora. "You...you psycho!!", he yelled at her. "You could've gotten us both killed! What were you thinking!?" Aurora pouted. "Hey, we made it didn't we?", she said. "Yeah, no thanks to you!", Gary snapped. "It's a good thing that Mew was there, otherwise I'd have been history!" "Hey, I'm the one who sent Mew to find you", Aurora whined. "Don't I get any credit for that?" Gary's eyes narrowed. "Where were you when I was being attacked by that giant seaking?", he asked angrily. "Me?", Aurora said nervously. "I was...um...on shore. Uh...Mew saved me from a whole school of attacking goldeen and brought me on land. I then told her that you were still in the water and she went out to get you." Gary noticed that Aurora was avoiding his gaze as she talked. "When Mew brought you to me you were in real bad shape", Aurora continued. "So I dressed your wound and gave you some antidote and hung your clothes out to dry." Gary just looked at her for a minute. He then turned his back on her. "Thanks", he murmered earnestly. "Now, if you don't mind, could you give me a little privacy while I put my clothes back on?" Aurora giggled. "What's the matter? Afraid I'll see yo! ur horizontal smile?", she asked, her green eyes dancing with mischief. "Well, I'm afraid it's way too late for modesty." Gary turned and glared at her. "What do you mean?", he asked. "I'm the one that took your clothes off, silly", Aurora said with a grin. "And by the way, the view was spectacular!" Gary turned crimson from his face down to his neck. "You....you....you....", he said, trying to find the appropiate words to express his feelings about having his privacy so violated. "Oh, don't be such a grouchy grump", Aurora said cheerfully. "Why are you so blue all the time?" Suddenly Aurora's eyes sparkled. "Hey, that's a nice nickname for you. Blue", Aurora giggled. "I think it suits you well." "Yeah, cute", Gary grumbled. "Now will you please get lost, or look the other way, or something. I'd like to put my clothes back on, and I think you've seen enough for one day." Aurora smiled and turned her back. "Okay, just tell me when you're done", she said. Gary reached up to take down his shirt and wasn't happy when he felt how damp it was. "They're still wet", he said grumpily. Aurora walked over to where she left her backpack and searched through it. She pulled out some clothes and tossed them over her shoulder to Gary. "Here, wear these", she said. "Good thing I carry spares." Gary unfolded the clothes to discover that it was a white Team Rocket uniform, just like the one a certain bumbling, rose sniffing, twerp hating, Team Rocket loser in particular wore. Gary looked up at Aurora. "You've got to be kidding", he said. "Hey, beggars can't be choosers", she replied as she shrugged her shoulders. Gary grumbled as he put the clothes on, occasionally looking in Aurora's direction to make sure she wasn't peeking. After today, Gary wouldn't put anything past her. "Are you done yet?", Aurora asked impatiently after a few minutes. "Yeah", Gary answered as he put on his other boot. Aurora turned around and scrutinized Gary's new look. "You look good in a Team Rocket uniform", she said with a grin. "Yeah, well don'! t get used to it", Gary snapped. "So, what are you gonna do now, Blue?", Aurora asked Gary. Gary didn't answer. Instead, he walked over and picked up his duffel bag that was laying beside the tent and stuffed his damp clothes inside it. He then started walking away. "H-hey, Blue? Wait up!", Aurora exclaimed, surprised. She ran up to Gary's side. "Whare are you going?", she asked him. "I'm going to call my grandfather and let him know what happened", Gary replied as he walked on. "I want to talk to him before those Officer Jennys have a chance to." "Shaw Town is back that way", Aurora said, pointing behind them. "I can't go back there!", Gary said. "Every cop in that town is looking for me! I go back there and I'll wind up in jail for sure!" "But what about the Gym?", Aurora asked him. "Don't you want to earn your badge?" "I have no choice but to forget about it, thanks to you", Gary said shortly. That made Aurora angry. She walked ahead a few steps and stood in Gary's path. "Look", she said in an icy tone, "It may be my fault that you're currently on the wrong side of the law, but don't you dare blame your failure to earn a badge on me." "Huh?", Gary said, confused. "I've seen the likes of you come and go in the pokemon training field", Aurora continued. "Trainers that let any difficulty or massive challenge block their path to becoming Pokemon Masters. If you're really any different from them, you'll be able to find a way to get back to that gym in Shaw and beat the pants off that Gym leader." Gary stood silently as he reflected on what Aurora just said. He remembered he chose to come to Shaw to earn his first Johto badge because he wanted the way to the Johto League to be as difficult and challenging as possible for him and his pokemon. And yet, here he was, already preparing to quit before he even had a chance to battle the Gym Leader. Or was he? Gary brought a hand up to stroke his chin. "How would I be able to get to the gym with all those police out?", Gary wondered out loud. Aurora smiled. She walke! d over to Gary and looked up in his face. "No worries, Blue", she said with a sly wink. "I already have a fool-proof plan on how to get you past those cops." Gary rolled his eyes. "This oughtta be rich", he near muttered. "Trust me", Aurora said. "I'm one of Team Rocket's best. If anyone can help you fool the police, I can." Her smile turned into a mischievous smirk. "And I know exactly how to do it. All you need is a diversion...." "I don't believe it", said Professor Oak in a tearful voice as he talked to Officer Jenny via PC phone. "I won't believe it." Officer Jenny looked at the professor's face on the PC screen, her heart full of sympathy. Desperation and fear were sculpted in his features. "I'm sorry, Professor Oak", Jenny said gently, "but that's what happened. The last time we saw him was just before he disappeared in the lake with Aurora Eve. A giant seaking was after him. We searched the lake thoroughly, but found no trace of him or her." "Have you searched the woods?", the professor asked in a hollow voice. "I have units searching the forest right now", Jenny replied. "We'll continue searching the forest and the lake until we see...." "For Pete's sake, stop searching the lake!", Professor Oak nearly yelled. "That's not where he is! Oh, never mind. I'll come down there and find him myself!" Officer Jenny winced as Professor Oak slammed the phone down and his face disappeared from the PC monitor. Mayor Wellington got up from the bench in the lobby and walked over to her. He had come to the police station when he heard that Officer Jenny planned to call Professor Oak and tell him the dire news. He was hoping for a chance to talk with the professor himself, but Professor Oak had hung up before he had the chance. "Well, that didn't look like it went too well", said the mayor. "What else could you expect?", Officer Jenny asked as she got up from the monitor desk. "Why did he get so angry when you said you'd keep searching for his grandson?", asked the mayor. "Don't you see?", replied Jenny in a weary voice as she massaged the temple of her nose where her bandage was. "I told him we would continue searching for him in the woods and the lake. It's been hours since he disappeared in that lake. If we found him in the lake now...." Suddenly a police officer burst into the police station. "Officer Jenny, mam", he said in an excited voice. "Come outside, quick! You're not going to believe this!" Jenny, the police officer, and the mayor! rushed outside. When they got there, they saw the other two Jennys, a squadron of police, and.... "Aurora Eve!?", exclaimed Mayor Wellington in disbelief. Sure enough, the notorious Team Rocketeer was standing there staring at them from across the street, leaning casually against a light pole with her arms folded. She was wearing a sleek pair of red roller blades on her feet. "B-but how!?", stuttered the mayor. "We thought you were...." "Fish food?", Aurora finished his sentence for him with a devilishly playful smirk. "Sorry, no such luck. For you." The Officer Jenny with the bandaged nose stepped forward. "What about the boy?", she asked angrily. "Did he make it out of the lake, too? Or do you even care?" Aurora threw her head back and laughed lightly. "You Officer Jennys are soooo clueless", she said jovially. "You give women a bad name. But you're fun to play with. Tell ya what, let's play a game. Tag, you're it! If you can catch me before I steal the Diamond Eevie from the town meuseum, I'll tell you what I did with Gary Oak!" That said, Aurora giggled lightly and sailed off down the street on her roller blades. "Come back here!", yelled Officer Jenny after the retreating girl. "We can't let her steal the Diamond Eevie", the mayor whined. "It's our greatest cultural treasure. We must stop her!" "Don't worry, we will", said the Jenny with the wounded nose in a stubborn voice. "And when we do", said one of the other Jennys, "we'll force her to tell us where Gary Oak is." "Let's move out", said the remaining Officer Jenny. "I know a shortcut to the meuseum. We can call reinforcements in and have them guarding the meuseum before we get there. When Aurora shows up, all she'll find is a bunch of police waiting there to arrest her." The three Jennys all got on their motorbikes and the mayor and the rest of the police all piled into police cars and sped off towards the meuseum. Gary watched the action unfold as he hid in the shadows of a nearby building. As he watched all of the police take off after Aurora, he had to admit the crazy girl was right when she planned all of this out. All of the police in town would be so busy going after her that not so much as a traffic cop would be around to interfere with his battle against the Gym Leader. He pulled the hood part of his gray cloak over his head and wrapped the cape part around his shoulders. He then started walking off in the opposite direction the police went. It was time. He was on his way to the gym in Shaw Town to confront it's leader, Shane. The time had come for him to win his first badge in Johto. Gary felt his pulse quicken slightly as he walked up the steps of the gym for the second time. This time, the gym was open. He took a deep breath, grinned, opened the door to the gym and stepped inside. He was ready to conquer. The first thing he saw as he entered was the same scruffy looking blonde haired boy he battled earlier that day. The boy was sitting on the hard wood floor of the gym, reading a comic book and eating potato chips. When the boy noticed Gary he jumped up. "You!", the boy exclaimed in a hostile tone. "What are you doing here?" "I could ask you the same thing", Gary replied. "I'm here to battle the leader of this gym and earn myself a badge." The scruffy blonde smiled. "So, you've finally worked up enough nerve to challenge me for the Nova Badge, eh?", he said in a mocking tone. "Wha!?", Gary said, bewuildered "What do you mean 'challenge you'?" The boy walked forward and stood in front of Gary. There was a self-important, smug look on his face. "Allow me to introduce myself", the boy stated. "I'm Shane, the leader of this gym and keeper of the Nova badge." That said, the boy held up a beautiful, spiral shaped golden badge. He seemed to enjoy the look of surprise that was on Gary's face. "I guess it goes without saying that we're about to have a rematch", he said to Gary with a grin. The police surrounded the meuseum in a thick crowd of armed policemen and police cars. The three Officer Jennys and Mayor Wellington stood at the entrance doors to the meuseum, alert and waiting. The rest of the police in the parking lot of the meuseum were equally tense. Every last one of them were determined not to let Aurora Eve skip off with the Diamond Eevie like she and the Dark Mew have done with so many other precious artifacts from other meuseums around the world. They were ready, even hoping, for Aurora Eve to show up at the meuseum so they could finally lock her and her Mew away and bless the world with having one less member of Team Rocket to deal with. But little did they know that even as they watched and waited, someone from inside the meuseum was looking down at them in amusement. "Looo-sers", Aurora said with a childish smile as she looked down at the police from the big glass window on the top floor of the meuseum. She had arrived there about three minutes before they did, and had been crawling through the air ducts on her way to the top floor as they were circling the meuseum outside. She turned around and walked across the marble floor of the meuseum until she was standing in front of the glass case that displayed her quarry, the Diamond Eevie. She nearly salivated as she admired the beauty of the crystalline sculpture that stood on top of the podium ten feet in front of her. "Hmm", she said as scrutinized her surroundings. "Now where on earth did they put all the alarms, I wonder? This looks like a job for a mist attack." She reached into her pocket and pulled out a metal ball, similar to the one she used earlier that day when she surprised the three Officer Jennys with a 'flash attack'. She threw the metal orb in the direction of the display case that housed the Diamond Eevie. It bounced once on the floor, then split in half. A flood of foggy mist poured forth from both halves, engulfing the display case and the air around it. As the fog spread, infra-red lines began to appear around the display case. "So, that's where they put the alarms, hmm?", Aurora said with a grin as her eyes sparkled. "Well, I think I can manage to get past this tiny little problem." With the expertise and grace of a ninja, she easily jumped and flipped through the red lines, careful not to touch any of them, until she finally landed past the alarms and right in front of the display case. "Well, that was easy", she said in a satisfied voice. She brought out a glass cutter and began cutting a hole on the display case. When she was done, she simply reached in and pulled out the diamond sculpture. "They have lousy security around here", Aurora muttered. "Well, I've had my fun. Now it's the Dark Mew's turn." That said, she lightly kissed the tip of her finger and put it through one of the infra-red lines...! . All of the police in the lot jumped when the piercingly loud sound of the alarm started to ring. "The meuseum!!", yelled the mayor in a panic. "She's in the meuseum!!" "Look! up there!", yelled the Officer Jenny with the bandaged nose as she pointed upward. Everyone looked up and saw a black mew looking down on them from the big glass window on the top floor of the building. It was waving at them cheerfully. "It's that blasted Dark Mew!", the mayor yelled angrily. "Open the meuseum doors and release the growlithes!", yelled one of the Officer Jennys. The mayor brought out a key and used it to open the great double doors of the meuseum. A few seconds later in rushed at least a dozen growlithes, all of them ready to take Mew dead or alive. The police followed in pursuit. The growlithes were way ahead of their human partners, already descending the last stairs on their way to the top floor before the police were even halfway there. The growlithes burst into the marble floored display room in the meuseum and stopped, their fur raised and their teeth bared in rage. The Dark Mew was floating right there in front of them. It didn't even have enough respect for them to hide. The Dark Mew giggled, as if this was some sort of game. With a roar, the growlithes leaped towards Mew. The police were justifiably alarmed when they heard their canine counterparts yelping in pain and fear from the top floor. "Mew is hurting them!", exclaimed an Officer Jenny. "We have to help them! Let's go!" Suddenly they were surprised when a growlithe, yelping in pain, fell from the top of the stairs and landed on their steps with a whimper. "Oh my gosh!", said the three Jennys in unison as they rushed to aid the police canine. The growlithe's body was battered and bruised. "That rotten Mew!", snarled the Jenny with the bandaged nose. "Look!", said a police officer. "It's got something in it's mouth!" They all looked to see what it was, and were surprised to see it was the Diamond Eevie. "It must have snatched it away from Mew", said one of the Jennys. She bent down to gently stroke growlithe's fur. "Good boy", she said softly. She got up and turned to the other police. "You guys get this wounded growlithe and the Diamond Eevie safely out of here. We'll handle the rest." "Yes mam", said the police as they carried the hurt growlithe and the diamond sculpture down the stairs, leaving the three Jennys alone to finish the job. The three policewomen drew their guns and started descending the stairs. They were uneasy, for they no longer heard their growlithes yelping. They reached the top floor and looked around the display room, their guns held out and ready. "Look!", said the Jenny with the hurt nose. "Over there!" The other two Jennys looked and saw their growlithes laying in a big heap on the floor. Some of them were whimpering. The Jennys rushed over to inspect them. "They could be hurt", said one Jenny. "Let's get them out of here." "But what about the Dark Mew?", asked another. "Where did it go?" Suddenly they heard yelling outside. They all ran to the big window and looked out to see the wounded growlithe that had been carried outside earlier was running across the parking lot at top speed. "Stop that pokemon!", they heard the mayor yell. "It's got the Diamond Eevie!" The three Jennys watched in compl! ete confusion as the police dove unsuccessfully for the retreating growlithe. Suddenly, to everyone's amazement, the growlithe jumped up and took off flying through the air! "W-wha!?!", exclaimed the mayor when he saw the growlithe become airborne. Suddenly the growlithe's body started to glow and change shape. It rapidly grew shorter, it's tail grew longer, it's feet got bigger and it's legs became smaller until it finally morphed into.... "The Dark Mew!!", yelled the mayor in rage. "You beast!!", he howled as he shook his fist at the rapidly retreating pokemon in the sky. "I'll get you for this yet!!" The three Jennys watched from the window, their hearts full of despair. "So, that wounded growlithe was really the Dark Mew all along", said one of the Jennys. "It must have been using a transformation attack to fool us", said one of the other Jennys. The three lowered their heads in shame. Once again Aurora Eve and the Dark Mew sailed away with the prize, winning yet another one for Team Rocket. Slowly they walked over to their growlithes and helped them to their feet and began herding them out the door of the display room. Suddenly, just as the last growlithe was walking out, something caught the eye of the Officer Jenny with the bandaged nose. A piece of paper was laying in the display case where the Diamond Eevie once sat. "What's that?", she said as she walked over to the glass case. She took the paper out of the case and examined it. "What is it?", asked one of the other Jennys. "It's a note", the Jenny with the paper answered. "It says: Go to the pokemon gym if you want to see Gary Oak." The three Jennys looked at each other. They then rushed towards the steps that led to the front doors of the meuseum. Gary folded his arms and smirked confidently. "So, you're Shane, huh?", he said. "I gotta admit, you kinda surprised me. But if you think that'll give you an edge over me in battle, think again. I beat you once, and I can do it again." "Hmph, you're not the only one surprised", Shane replied with a smirk of his own. "I didn't think a member of Team Rocket could be so skilled in training pokemon. I thought all you guys sucked." "What are you talking about?", Gary asked hotly. "I'm not a member of Team Rocket!" "You're not?", Shane asked in a confused voice. "Then what's with the duds?" Gary's face turned red as he suddenly remembered he was still wearing a Team Rocket uniform. "Look, never mind my clothes, alright?", Gary snapped. "Let's just get this battle over with so I can get my badge and leave this town." Shane looked amused at Gary's arrogance. "If you say so", Shane replied. He threw out a pokeball and released his pokemon; a huge Sunflora. Gary smiled when he saw it, not out of arrogance or confidence, but because he simply loved sunfloras. The cheerful smiles and happy attitude of the giant walking flowers won him over the first time he saw one. "Gee", Gary said to himself. "It's too bad I have to beat him up." With that, he threw forth a pokeball and released his Eevie. When Eevie saw the Sunflora he shook his fur and immediately took on a battle stance, knowing exactly what was going on. It was time to win another badge for his trainer. Sunflora took on a battle stance of it's own, ready to do everything in it's power to keep the stranger from walking away with the Nova Badge. "Sunflora here is my strongest pokemon", Shane announced proudly. "He'll mop the floor with your pathetic Eevie." "Yeah?", Gary replied with a confident grin. "Well Eevie is my most powerful pokemon, and I'm nothing less than a hundred percent sure he'll make short work of your sad looking Sunflora." "We'll see about that", said Shane. He then squared his shoulders and cleared his throat. "This is a one on one match betwe! en two pokemon", he announced loudly. "My Sunflora versus your Eevie. The winner retains the Nova badge. Any questions?" "Yeah", said Gary, his voice tremendously arrogant. "Who's gonna notify your Sunflora's next of kin? 'Cause when Eevie get's done with it it'll be pushing up daisies. No pun intended." "Grrrr, I'll show you!", Shane snarled. "Sunflora, use your vine whip now!" Sunflora obliged and two green vines came from the Sunflora and slashed straight for Eevie. "Eevie, double team attack!", Gary ordered. Eevie split himself up in multiple images, badly confusing the Sunflora. Try as it did, the Sunflora couldn't seem to find and hit the true Eevie. "Now, Eevie! Use your leer attack!", Gary commanded. "Fiiee!", Eevie said as he glared intently at Sunflora. "Flora", Sunflora objected nervously. It took a step back. "Sunflora, don't let it intimidate you!", Shane yelled. "Use your razor leaf!" Sunflora thrust it's leaves forward, throwing razor sharp leaves in Eevie's direction. Eevie didn't move. It merely stood still and stared calmly at the approaching leaves as they got closer and closer.... and then bounced off the invisible shield of it's reflect attack and landed uselessly on the ground. "Wha!?", Shane exclaimed. "Flora!?", Sunflora mimicked. Gary folded his arms and looked proudly at Eevie. "Nice move", he praised his favorite pokemon. "Now, use take down attack." "Fwee!!", Eevie cried it's battle cry as it rushed towards Sunflora. Sunflora hardly saw a brown blur before Eevie collided with it, knocking the wind out of it. "Floooraaa!", Sunflora cried in pain and fear. "Sunflora, grab that Eevie!", Shane yelled. Sunflora crushed Eevie to him in a brutal hug. "Fweeee!", Eevie snarled as it struggled unsuccessfully to get free. Shane smiled evilly. Sunflora had Eevie right where he wanted him. "Now, use sleep powder", he said confidently. A sparkling flow of powder came from Sunflora's petals. "Eevie! Hold your breath! Whatever you do, don't breathe in that powder!", Gary yelled. Eevie took a de! ep breath and held it before the powder reached it's face. "Just hang on to him, Sunflora", Shane said with a smirk. "It can't hold it's breath for long." Gary clenched and unclenched his fists and growled under his breath. Shane was right. Sooner or later Eevie would have to take a breath. If Eevie breathed in that sleep powder, this match was over. "Eevie, body slam now!", Gary yelled desperately. Eevie wrapped it's forepaws around Sunflora's neck and, using all of the energy in the upper part of it's body, threw Sunflora over it's shoulder. "Flora!!", Sunflora barely had time enough to yell before it's back hit the ground. Hard. Sunflora's body bounced once on the ground and then it lay still for a couple of seconds before trying to get up. Eevie leaped at least three feet away from it's opponent and took a few seconds to take in some much needed breaths of air. "Whooaa!", Shane exclaimed. He was definately impressed with Eevie's strength. So was Gary. He wasn't even completely sure if Eevie was strong enough to pull off such a feat. 'Well, grampa always said I had a natural instinct as a pokemon trainer', Gary thought to himself. Sunflora struggled to it's feet and glared at Eevie. "Sunflora, use leech seed", Shane commanded. A vine whipped quickly from Sunflora's side and grabbed Eevie. It glowed white as it started sapping Eevie's strength. Eevie screamed in rage and agony. "Eevie! Fissure attack!", Gary yelled. Severely weakened, Eevie struggled to raise it's paws and brought them down again, firing a fissure attack straight at Sunflora. Sunflora was wise to it, though. It released Eevie and jumped aside, easily avoiding the attack. "Good save, Sunflora!", Shane congratulated his pet. Gary bit his lip as Eevie reeled from the leech seed attack. He had to find a way to finish this, quickly. "Now, use sunbeam attack!", Shane suddenly yelled. Sunflora's face started to glow brightly as it started taking in energy. Gary knew it would be a minute before Sunflora could fire it's powerful beam directly at ! Eevie. This would normally be a time when other trainers would take advantage of the time they're given before a sunbeam knocks out their pokemon by trying to K.O. their opponent's plant pokemon before it can attack. But Gary hardly ever made rash decisions. He was a thinker, arrogant and calculating in even his most desperate moments. He knew that in Eevie's weakened state any attack he tried towards the goal of knocking out Sunflora would be useless. Therefore he decided to try another move. An extremely risky move. "Eevie, don't do anything!", Gary yelled. "Let that sunbeam hit you!" "Fwee!?!", Eevie said as it looked at it's trainer in disbelief. "Do you have faith in me, Eevie?", Gary asked. Eevie immediately responded with a knod. "Then trust me now", Gary said. "And brace yourself." Eevie had no ides what Gary was planning, but it never questioned Gary's judgement before and it wasn't about to start now. Eevie braced itself for the impact of the beam. 'What's he up to?', Shane thought suspiciously. Suddenly Sunflora's body glowed brightly as it's energy reached it's peak. "Sunflora, use sunbeam now!", Shane commanded, eager, or perhaps just anxious, to see what Gary had planned. Sunflora took aim and a powerful beam shot forth from it's face and went directly towards Eevie. Eevie braced itself for impact, completely trustful in it's trainer's decisions. Just before the beam hit, Gary yelled out: "Now! Bide your strength!" Eevie , quick as ever, used bide just before the beam hit him. It hit hard, a burning rush of searing fire and solar power scorching it's fur. Eevie screamed in pain as he flew backwards and hit the wall of the room. Gary winced and clutched his chest. The pain he felt whenever any of his pokemon were hurt was always tenfold what his pokemon felt. Eevie slumped to the floor of the gym and lay still. Shane smiled nastily. "Nice strategy", he scoffed. "If you wanted to give up, all you had to do is say so." Gary said nothing. He just continued to watch Eevie. 'C'mon', Gary pleaded in! his mind. 'I know how strong you are, Eevie. Don't give up on me, old friend. Try to stand. Please?' A few more silent seconds went by. Suddenly Shane went slack jawed as Eevie slowly struggled to regain it's footing. "I-I don't believe it!", he said incredulously. "F-flora!", Sunflora mimicked in disbelief. Gary still said nothing. He continued to watch his Eevie in concern. Eevie got up on it's feet, shook it's fur, and glared a challenge at Sunflora. "No way!!", Shane yelled, outraged. "That sunbeam attack should have taken it out!" He glared darkly at Eevie. "Well this time I'll make sure it stays down. Sunflora, power up for another sunbeam!" Sunflora's head started glowing again. That's when Gary grinned. He knew Shane thought Eevie was too weak to attack Sunflora effectively. But Shane was forgetting something very important. Eevie had used bide to take in a lot of the power Sunflora assaulted him with. "Eevie, why don't you thank Sunflora for that sunbeam attack by returning it tenfold?", Gary said with an evil smirk. "Release the energy you stored in the form of a hyperbeam." Eevie immediately complied, firing a super large, super fast, and super powerful hyperbeam directly at Sunflora. "FLOOORRAAA!", Sunflora screamed when the beam engulfed him. All Shane could do is yell out in helpless alarm. When the beam cleared Sunflora was laying on the ground, helpless and unconcious. Shane was silent for a moment as he gazed in disbelief at the scene before him. He then pointed a pokeball at Sunflora. "Sunflora, return!", he said, recalling his pokemon. "You did great", he spoke softly to the pokeball. He then looked over at Gary, who had picked Eevie up and was gently rubbing him, congratulating him and soothing his wounds. With a smile, Shane walked over to him. "You truly are one awesome trainer", Shane said to Gary. "I gotta give you your props. You've got some cool pokemon, too." "Yeah, they're the secret of my success", Gary said with a happy grin. He then recalled Eevie back into it's pokeball, gi! ving it a well deserved rest. "Well, you've definately earned this", said Shane as he handed Gary the Nova badge. "Thanks!", Gary said excitedly. He took the badge and gazed at it, savoring the moment. Finally, his first Johto League badge! "Yess!", Gary said happily as he held the badge up. "I'm on my way to the Johto League!" "I beg to differ", said an angry voice. "Huh?", Gary said. He turned around to see the Officer Jenny with the bandaged nose looking at him with sharp eyes. She was holding up a pair of handcuffs and was accompanied by at least ten other officers. "Right now the only place you're headed for is jail", she snapped as she moved towards him. Aurora watched from the roof of the gym as the police dragged the handcuffed and helpless Gary Oak out of the building towards one of the squad cars parked nearby. She observed as Shane looked on in amazement from a respectable distance outside. "Boy, I guess he really was a member of Team Rocket", he said in wonder. "I am not!", Gary yelled hotly before he was stuffed into the squad car and the door slammed behind him. As the police took off towards the station with their suspect, Aurora sighed, disgustedly. "Those dumb cops don't even know for sure that Blue was helping me steal anything", she said angrily to herself. She then folded her arms and sighed again. She couldn't believe what she was about to do. Gary's head hung low as he sat in one of the holding cells in the Shaw Town city jail, pondering his ill fate. It was over. His career as a trainer was dead. The police had already conviscated his pokemon, and were now probably wondering what juvenile incarceration facility they were going to ship him off to for the next thirty years. Tears of fear and shame sprung to his eyes and he buried his face in his hands. 'I'll bet grampa would be really proud of me now', he thought somberly. 'This is all the fault of that Aurora Eve.' He silently cursed her name. Ever since he met the Team Rocketeer he had been in nothing but trouble. He should have known better than to hang around a member of Team Rocket. Suddenly he heard the lock on his cell door clink as it began to open. The Officer Jenny that arrested him was standing there. "Come on, young man", she said. "Someone paid bail for you." Gary looked puzzled. Who in this town would bother to pay bail for.... Suddenly he grew pale as he realized the truth. No one from Shaw would pay bail from him. But he knew someone from Pallet Town who just might. Gary's head hung low as he got up from his bench and followed Jenny to the lobby of the station. He was going to face his grandfather. "First I was told my grandson might possibly be deceased", Professor Oak yelled angrily. "Now you tell me he's in league with Team Rocket? Forgive me if I say that sounds a tad questionable." The mayor and the police squirmed uncomfortably. "I know it sounds bizarre", said an Officer Jenny. "But please let us explain...." "I'm through with your explanations", the professor snapped shortly. "Right now I just want to talk to Gary and see if he can tell me what's going on." suddenly in from the back door walked Gary Oak, accompanied by an Officer Jenny. "Um, grampa?", Gary said sheepishly when they were face to face, "I've got a lot to tell you which most of it you probably won't believe, but...." He stopped when he noticed his grandfather was looking at him strangely. "Uh...grampa?", Gary asked anxiously, "What is it?" Suddenly he knew. He was still wearing the Team Rocket uniform. 'Oh, crap', Gary thought to himself. How on Earth would he be able to explain this? He ran a hand through his spiky red hair, trying to think of where to begin. Suddenly a police officer ran into the room. "Officer Jenny!", he yelled, seemingly not to either Jenny in particular. "We found this on the steps in front of the station! Check it out!", he said as he held out his hand. Everyone looked and saw.... "The Diamond Eevie!!", the mayor exclaimed. The Jenny with the bandaged nose took the precious eevie-shaped stone from the officer's hand. "B-but how?", she asked, bewuildered. "I don't know", the officer responded, "But this note was tied to it." The poilceman held out a piece of paper. The mayor took it from him and examined it. "It's from Aurora Eve!", he said in astonishment. He then read it out loud: To: The idiot mayor and his police pets, Thanks for the good time! I and The Dark Mew had a lot of fun stealing the Diamond Eevie right from under your noses! We had even more fun convincing you we did it with the help of that nitwit Gary Oak. And you all fell for it, didn't you? Losers. Well, we've had our fun. Now I'm returning your precious rock and heading out of town. See ya! Your enemies (you unlucky people), Aurora Eve and the Dark Mew "That....that villain!", the mayor stuttered angrily. "She was making a fool of us all along!" "But, why would she return the Diamond Eevie?", asked an Officer Jenny. "Um, excuse me?", Gary said. Everyone turned and looked at him. "I really don't know what's going on here, and to be truthful, I really don't care", Gary said irritably. "I just wanna get out of here so I can continue my pokemon journey. Can I leave now?" "Um, of course", said the mayor awkwardly. "This proves that you were just a victim of Aurora Eve's schemes, just like the rest of us. And may I extend my deepest apologies...." "Yeah, yeah", Gary snapped. "Just give me back my duffel bag and my pokemon, will ya?" "Of course", Mayor Wellington said, not wanting to press his luck with the angry youth. He was afraid of how close he was to a lawsuit. He signaled to the Officer Jenny with the hurt nose and she reluctantly went to get Gary's things. "Um, is there anything else we can do for you?", the mayor asked Gary. "Yeah. You can give my grampa back the money he gave you to bail me out", Gary said coldly. He then turned his back on the mayor without waiting for a response. "See grampa, I told you I could explain", Gary said with a meek grin. "Uh huh", Professor Oak said thoughtfully as he looked Gary up and down. Now if only you could explain the Team Rocket uniform." Gary sighed. "Please grampa, don't ask", he said wearily. "Here you are", said Officer Jenny as she walked back into the lobby. She handed Gary his duffel bag and his pokeballs and he took them. "Thanks", he said earnestly, not wanting to be too rude in front of his grandfather. He turned back to the professor. "Sorry about the trouble, grampa", he said in earnest. "It's alright, Gary", the professor replied. I"m just glad you're safe. Just be more careful with who you meet on the road from now on." "I will, grampa", Gary said. "Ready to resume your journey?", Professor Oak asked him. "Yeah, but first I have to do something", Gary replied. "What's that?", the professor asked. "C! hange my clothes", Gary said with a grin. Professor Oak chuckled. Gary took a moment to stretch his arms and legs before walking down the dirt road that led from Shaw Town. What an adventure! He never thought he'd have to go through so much in one town! 'And just think', Gary thought to himself, 'I'm only just beginning my journeys in Johto.' Gary had to admit, that was truly the hardest badge he ever had to earn. And he knew it would only get harder as he forged on. Gary smiled to himself, somehow finding contentment in that thought. Suddenly and without warning.... "Yooohooo!", chimed a playful female voice behind him. Gary whirled to once again face Aurora Eve. "How's it hangin' Blue?", Aurora said with a grin as she stood there with her hands on her hips. "You! Why don't you just go away?", Gary snapped. "Haven't you got me in enough trouble for one lifetime?" "Aww, come on, Blue", Aurora pouted. "You can't tell me you didn't have at least a little fun." "Fun!?", Gary said incredulously. "Boy, you are nuts!" He then turned is back on her. "Just stay away from me", he snarled. He started to walk away, but was surprised to find himself yanked back around by his collar by one peeved Team Rocketeer. "Ain't that gratitude for ya?", she snarled. "I helped you get your badge and I gave up the Diamond Eevie to save your worthless hide from the cops, and that's all you have to say to me?" The two children glared at each other for a moment. It was Gary who finally broke the silence. "Thanks", he murmured as he eyed the ground. "Thanks for all your help." He looked up and was puzzled to see Aurora grinning and her eyes sparkling. "It was my pleasure, Blue", she said happily. "You're lots of fun to hang with. I think me and the Dark Mew will hang out with you more often." Gary rolled his eyes upward. "Swell", he said sarcastically. Aurora suddenly ran off the path to the west. "I'll see ya later, Blue", she said over her shouder. "But not too much later, okay?" Gary watched her run off, unconcious of the fact that he was admiring the smooth long limbness of her legs. Then with a! sigh, he turned around to continue his journey forward. He knew that, like it or not, he was going to meet up with Aurora and her Dark Mew again sometime in the near future. It was most likely unavoidable. A small part of him that he wasn't aware of even looked forward to it. He had just made a couple of new friends. And there was nothing he could do about it. FIN
