Alec’s mind wasn’t with him as he ate his final meal at his mothers table. Although he felt a little bad about it, he wasn’t even thinking of his mother. He was thinking of the day ahead. The beginning of his journey and the end of his life at home. Tomorrow he would take the first step on his way to becoming a Pokemon master. He had planned this day his entire lifetime, and all he could think of was what pokemon he would choose. He had no idea, and this created a little trouble in his mind. What if he couldn’t decide on the day? He knew his pal Mel would no what she wanted. She always was prepared, no matter what the occasion. “I’m going to miss you so much”, His mother was saying as his thoughts were elsewhere. “Ill have no one to keep me company and no one to cook for”. Alec finally tired of the big, ill miss you speech and departed for his room. The following morning he was up and dressing as his alarm went off. His Blue jeans covered his legs while a white singlet slipped over the top of the jeans. His long black hair reached below his shoulder blades, and one small strand of hair was bleach white, giving him a somewhat different look. That was Alec, different to say the least. His only friend, Mel, would more then likely travel with him on his journey, at least until they felt safe without each other. Mel was a punk to the bone, spiky hair, leather pants and leather top; she wore a silver chain as a belt and 2 around her neck. Half of her hair was red, while the other half remained black, and getting past the cruel look she seemed to always show, she was quite attractive. In truth, she wasn’t a violent person, and laughed quite a lot. As Alec made his way down the road, towards the professor’s laboratory, she showed up. “So Alec”, she began. “Where you off to first”. “Probably viridian city”, he replied without even thinking. “Yeah, I’m off to Cerulean, I’m getting an electric type so I want my first match to give me an advantage. Maybe we’ll catch up some time”. At once Alec felt a sudden surge of regret, but just nodded, and continued to walk. “So watcha after”, Mel suddenly asked him. “No idea”, he said, a faint tone of regret in his voice. “Well, you’ll decide. I’ve already organized an Elekid for me. The prof just agreed as soon as I asked”, she gloated with a huge grin on her face. “I guess he wants your body”, I laughed at her. “No way”, she replied, blushing. Mel always had a serious problem with self consciousness. And Alec had a serious problem with teasing her about it. “Well, meat ya there, I better run if I’m gonna get a good Mon, later Mel. And with that, Alec began to run. “Alec, Alec, you’re here at last. I expected you earlier. You’re still the first here though”. The professor as always seemed rather full of energy, even at 7 o’clock in the morning. His white hair pointed to the roof, and his glasses gave him the appearance of a mad scientist gone mad. On each shoulder a hoohoot rested, and a growlithe constantly remained at his side. This man was loved by all pokemon. “Oh that was lucky Prof. Your looking good today”, Alec said with a grin. They both knew the man didn’t, but out of courtesy Alec always said the same words. “Yes well, I bet you’re in a hurry to see your pokemon, so come with me and you can choose”. As the professor escorted him towards the huge farm like area outside his lab, Alec began to worry. Finally, he would have to make a choice, and he didn’t like it “I see your nervous lad”, the professor noted without even turning around. “It’s only normal, and you shouldn’t worry. You’ll know what pokemon is to be yours as soon as you see it. Now, stop worrying, and start looking. Everybody worries about these things, but the best trainers ignore the worry and get down to business. A trainer who can do that is bound to go far. For the next hour Alec wandered through the farm like area, admiring the miltanks and the Tauros, the Kangaskhan and the Heracross. Then he moved on, noting the few bird pokemon as he passed. Still, no pokemon seemed to stick out. Then, he noticed a few pokemon gathered round, each fighting another. No wait, all fighting one little pokemon. The pokemon dodged in and out, shooting small gusts of icy wind at its foes. Its eyes reddened, and most of the pokemon backed off. All except 2 houndour, which growled at the small pokemon. The two houndour seemed to charge up an attack, and sent to small waves of fire at mystery pokemon. Before the attacks could hit however, the small pokemon back flipped out of the way, into a tree. Before anything else could happen though, Alec knew which pokemon he wanted, and tapped a button on the little computer he held. Within moments, in place of the little computer like instrument in his hands, was a black and ice blue pokeball. Sneazle had disappeared and a small cart was making its way towards him. As he jumped aboard the cart, a computerized voice began to explain what needs a sneazle had when taking care of it, and what would be expected of him while looking after the pokemon. “Now Alec, those supplies wont last forever, so you will have to battle other trainers while you travel. And Sneazle will need a lot of training to become as great as he can be. But don’t over train him, he needs to be happy as well as strong”. After all the computerized instructions, Alec had felt he finally escaped the lectures, but then the professor had gone into explanations as well. Apparently, as soon as Mel arrived she had left with her pokemon, and was now on her way to the train station where she would catch a ride to cerulean city. After almost an hour of explanations, Alec was on his way towards the viridian forest. As he ran, Alec felt overwhelmed with a sadness he couldn’t explain. Always, he had wanted to get away from his small village home, but now, he felt a desire to stay. Even though it wasn’t heaven, the place was home, and he would miss it. Suddenly, he had the overwhelming feeling he should let out Sneazle, to let his new pokemon say goodbye. With the push of a button, the agile little pokemon appeared before him. As soon as it appeared, its gaze locked with Alec’s, and both seemed to be sizing up the other. Surprisingly, Sneazle nodded its head in a seemingly show of respect for his trainer, and then began to walk towards Alec. Alec continued to hold its gaze, until the pokemon was at his feet. Then he knelt, nodded, and patted his pokemon on the shoulder. “I want to be friends, and I want us to be the best, to train together, and fight together. I’m not asking you to be my pet, but my companion, and my friend”. Sneazle seemed to understand, because when Alec had finished, the pokemon rubbed its head softly against Alec’s legs. After that, the two had got on like old friends, walking along the fields, with the other new trainers, keeping an eye out for pokemon and possible battles. Many trainers new pokemon ran off to fight others without their trainers, but sneazle acted completely disciplined, and ignored the few pokemon who gave him a growl or a bark. A few wild pokemon showed up along the path, but other trainers claimed them for their own. When night finally arrived, most of the trainers set up camp, but Alec kept walking with Sneazle. Eventually though, it got to dark to go on, so the 2 sat down near a tree and Alec lit a fire. Immediately Sneazle curled up near the tree, away from the fire, and rested while Alec prepared the food. As soon as it was ready, they both plunged in. As soon as it was finished, they slept. As the morning sun began to show its face, Sneazle woke Alec up with a shove. This alone didn’t wake the young trainer up, but a putrid smell coming from directly in front of his face. Still ignoring it, he felt a sprinkle of water spraying all over him, and swore softly about the rain. Slowly, he rose from his sleeping bag and examined the area around. In front of him, sneazle was dripping wet, and shaking the water off. Alec looked up into the sky and noted the blue sky, and realized it wasn’t raining. He looked back at his pokemon, and considered the water. Then, it caught on as he noticed the fish and the odour they made. Thanking his pokemon, he began to cook the 2 pieces over the fire. The 2 ate a meal of fish for breakfast, and packed the remaining in Alec’s backpack. Then, hurrying so no trainers would pass them, began to make their way again. Almost 15 minutes after they began walking again, a rustle in the bushes made Sneazle jump to attention, and caused Alec to look over that way. “Go”, he said to Sneazle, and the little pokemon was on its way into the bushes. Instantly, a pokemon shot out of the bushes straight past Alec, chased by Sneazle. The pokemon was the picture of a teddy-bear, and ran on two legs. On its paws appeared to be honey, and as it ran, the paws reached up to the mouth letting honey drip into its mouth. “Quick attack”, Alec said as he lifted his pokedex up and pointed it at the teddy bear. “Teddiursa, the teddy bear pokemon. This pokemon constantly had its honey soaked paws at its mouth to suck the honey out”, the pokedex said as it scanned the pokemon. “Snee”, Sneazle shrieked as his attack hit the running pokemon. Teddiursa fell, and then jumped back up again, and turned to face my fighter. Teddiursa charged, and the pokedex began talking again. “rage attack, gets stronger the longer the attack lasts. As soon as a pokemon uses this attack, immediate defeat of the foe or with drawl from the battle is recommended. “Brace yourself Sneazle”, Alec called as the charging pokemon slowly sped up. Sneazle then brought his arms in front of himself, and crossed them. He seemed to be bracing himself, but as teddiursa closed in, claws extended from his fists, and an evil looking grin spread across his face. The teddy bear pokemon faltered, but then charged again. Sneazle jumped and flipped, slashing his claws at his foe as he did so. The result was sneazle landing, back faced to the unconscious Tediursa “Pokeball, go!” yelled Alec said as he threw a red and white ball at the unconscious foe. After that, the day passed smoothly. Only one trainer caught up with them, she was riding a ponyta and didn’t look twice at the pair as she rode on. Sneazle often swung his head in the direction of a wild pokemon, but never battled any. Eventually night came, and with that, sleep.
