Alec lay in the hospital, thinking of only one thing. The same thing he had been thinking about all week. Next to him, Sneazle lay sound asleep, dreaming of who knows what. On either side of the bed, the newly evolved Magmar and the huge bear pokemon Ursaring guarded him from foes. But Alec wasn’t thinking of these pokemon. He wasn’t thinking of the wild Beauty Terra, or the strange boy Auron. No, he was thinking about his pal golduck. The pokemon that had saved them all, and taken such a grievous revenge. Yeah, people had found the charizard wings on either side of town, and the head at the top of the celadon city shopping mall. Instead of proclaiming Golduck as a hero, however, people had called him horrible to exact such revenge on anything. Instead of a champion, Golduck was a fear. Even the officer jenny, who had come to thank golduck, had revulsion in her eyes. But golduck hadn’t been there, he hadn’t been back since that day of dread, a week ago. Alec knew he was alive, he could feel the heart beat of the powerful pokemon somewhere out there, but he couldn’t place it. Ever since he had been knocked out, he had felt his pokemons health deep inside his mind. No one knew about this, except himself, but he thought they would call him crazy if he mentioned it. So he kept his little secret, and hen people suggested Golduck was dying somewhere, Alec smiuled inside knowing the truth, that he was happily resting somewhere, waiting for him. Golduck had known what was to come, but hadn’t liked it. His revenge at the time had felt more important then the opinions of some mere men, until the opinions came to surface. The only one who didn’t judge was the one who would have done the same. His friend. His trainer. Alec. And Alec would need him in the times to come. But he could not show himself to anyone until Alec left the city. Then, he would be a normal Golduck again. Then, people wouldn’t hate him on site. Then he would be worthy. Ursaring lay, thinking of honey. “Gee I miss honey”, he was thinking to himself. “I wonder if Alec would buy me some. I bet Golduck would like some honey too. Maybe then he would be happy again. Then things could go back to normal”. Magmar smiled and flexed a fist. “Im so strong”, he thought. “All because of this trainer. He made me strong, but look at his pathetic leg. Maybe he should train himself. I hope he makes me as strong as the psycho duck. Its strength was impossible. I’m glad it did what it did. That charizard was a disgrace to all things fire, and I would have done the same. Nothing will harm my trainer again, not so long as I am strong. Nothing”. Sneazle dreamt. He dreamt of godly pokemon. But rather then speak to him, they shared a picture. Sneazle was changing, evolving. “But I wont evolve”, he thought absently. 2 weeks later, Alec was ready to leave. His pokemon had been exercising in the local gym with terra and her own Pokemon, except for a delegated one for the day, which would stay with him, to keep him company. Alec had packed his bags, and was waiting for Terra and Auron, their new travelling companion, when a young woman entered the room. “Before I give you the news I come with, I want to give you both a emerald badge, after seeing your pokemon display their power against the charizard, I know I have no chance”, she sighed as she said this, “But I have some bad tidings for you”. A tear filled her eye. “Mel died in the battle”. Alec fell to his knees, ignoring the pain from his still healing broken leg. “But, but, but….how”? “Her pokemon were in the way of one of snorlaxs hyper beams. She managed to push the Larvitar out of the way, but Electabuzz stayed with her. They were both completely disintegrated. I’m sorry”. Alec felt tears dribble down his face, but immediately wiped them away. “And Larvitar”. “We hoped you would take him, he’s, unruly and no one here could train him. Perhaps since you were friends”, she left it hang. “Yes”. She handed him a pokeball. “Mel was.....”. “Great, my only friend and perhaps my first love, go away”. He felt bad about his rudeness, but what could he do. She left, her eyes also filled with tears. “How could they leave it so long without telling me”, he muttered aloud. “Done”, he heard a childlike voice in the back of his mind. The 3 walked silently along the empty field. Celadon city rebuilding had been a sad sight. Only one pokemon walked with them, the incredibly depressed looking Larvitar. Upon release from the pokeball, Larivtar had been ready to thrash about, but as soon as it noticed the tears in Alecs eyes, the pain so obviously that was written all over his face, Larvitar had snuggled close to Alec and seemingly weeped himself to sleep. Ever since that moment, Larvitar had stayed out of his pokeball, and Close to Alec. Somehow the 2 had an unspoken bond, and Larvitar recognised him as its new trainer. Not a word had been said between the 3 humans and pokemon since leaving the hospital. Alec just led the way, followed by his sad companions. Eventually, a normal golduck joined them as well, although Alec could feels its heart beat. Not a word was spoken.
