Disclaimer: I don't own pokemon. To be technical I don't even own this idea. It's not exactly original. Prologue Megan wondered speculatively what she was to do now. Quiting her job had been no easy task but now that it was over she had other problems. Team Rocket had seemed so appealing to a young and naive scientist. They offered the best labs and of course the highest pay. The beginning jobs were simple and in a way mundane. Doing errands, watching the older scientists, and attending classes. Now it was over. She quit. Yes, the impossible had been done and hopefully would stay that way. Her plan had been flawless...no not flawless. Nothing was flawless. Even so it was a fool proof plan. Except for the fact that half of the rockets were fools. When Megan had joined she knew that Team Rocket wasn't the best with retirement plans so she had prepared as best she could for a non-violent escape. She took her three days leave and said she was going to Newbark Town to visit a deathly ill grandmother. She set it up with a friends to make records for her 'grandma' and her demise. Then she had a fatal accident. Of course it had been someone else but that had been taken care of also. And of course it was published in all the newspapers so there was not anything Team Rocket could do but be thankful it had been a junior scientist. Now in her natural state she was fairly attracted but not beautiful. Her silvery hair was drawn back into a short ponytail with stray wisps falling out messily. Her eyes were a pale blue-gray and were almond shaped. She now dressed in shabby blue jeans, torn up sneakers, and a shirt that proclaimed, 'Kiss Mine'. It felt good to be out of the suits and lab coats. To make the disgise complete she rented a small cottage right outside the rocket's facilities. Right under their noses. Everything had been thought of except what she was going to do. Chapter One Walking down the absurdly small dirt path Megan juggled her bags. They were heavy and she needed a bike. Not seeing the small, prone form in the middle of the road over her burden she went flying scattering everything. Food, plastic bags, and tolietres flew all over decorating the surroundling bushes that fringed the path. Megan herself was drapped on a rather large thorn bush. As she tried to extract herself she muttered something about the plant being on steroids. Most likely it was to protect TR's lab from nosy intruders. Hurriedly she ripped up the scattered bags and hastily started shoving items back in. When she thought she had everything she paused to look around and spotted a lone magizine. it was resting on a lump of dirt. As Megan got closer the lump grew fur and took on the shape of a small pokemon. The two large ears were folded limply across the blunt head which rested on mud covered paws. A thin tail wrapped tightly against its haunches. Megan reconized the creature of course. Anyone who had ever been in a laboritory knew what it was. Eevees were favorite test subjects because of their gregarious natures and unstable genetics. Eveyone wanted to be the scientist to create a grass evolution though none had succeded. Her first instict was to abondon the magizine and flee down the path to her uneventful life. The second one was to scoop the poor thing up and take it home. The two battled for a minute and the second one won. Unsure of what to do she crept forward hesitantly towards the small pokemon. The eevee openned a dark brown eye and watched her progress silently. The eevee made no move to escape and Megan realized why. It's pads were swollen and bleeding. "I'm not going to hurt you." Megan assured the little brown creature as she slid forward slowly. It 'said' in a frightened voice, Them? Back? What was the eevee talking about. How did the eevee know how to mindspeak? Megan looked over it again and noticed the lime green collar that pinched tightly around the thin neck. It looked like Megan wasn't the only escapee from TR's labs. "I'm not taking you back." Megan said quietly, "Just home." The eevee sighed in relief and closed the eye slowly having no energy left to keep up the effort. Megan chided herself for being so stupid and unselfish but she knew she couldn't leave the eevee out here by itself. Houndours, persians, and meowths were wild in this area and they would love an easy meal. She gently slipped her long fingers under the fragile body and lifted the tiny bundle to her chest. She proceded home in a careful fashion and took one last look at the bags laying forlornly in the road. Those bags would later symbolize the mundane and quiet life she had been living if only for a short while. Fate had tossed in a wild card. ***** "Sir, group seven has escaped." The nervous scientist reported to his superior. He desperately wished for his crisp, white lab coat. It made him feel like he knew what he was doing. More confident. "Escaped? Perhaps they fluttered away even though none of them are flying types!" The superior snapped nastily. It was his neck on the chopping block after all. "Sir, group two is vastly improving. All have mastered at least two of their elemental talents." The scientist reported again hoping to lessen the tongue lashing he was to recieve for his incompedense. "What about grop one? Technically they should be ahead of group two." The superior growled ignoring the change of subject. That subject could be dealt with later. "They are doing well but I think they lack intelligence." The underling said slowly. "Agreed. They are a bit slow." "Perhaps..." The scientist started then bit back the word amazed at his own daring. "Perhaps what?" The superior promped. "Perhaps intelligence was a key factor in group seven's escape." The scientist sqeaked unsure of his theory. "Yes that certainly played a roll in it. They were just waiting for a chance to escape and when that..disturbance was created they took it. Now they or on the loose. You are dismissed." The older man indulged the younger one slightly, "and please send Davy and Jones to me." Chapter Two After having clean the eevee up and dried it off Megan realized that it was just exhaughted and bruised. Although Megan had been trained to look for sickness in pokemon she wanted to make such nothing was wrong internally. She put the small eevee in a blanket and placed the bundle by the fire. The eevee was so tired that it didn't even wake up. Then Megan called the pokemon center. "Hello? How may I help you?" A cheery voice asked on the other end of the line. "Um...yes. I was walking home this afternoon and I found a pokemon in the middle of the path. I think there's something wrong with it." Megan explained trying hard to sound ill-educated and misinformed. She had been lying to people her whole life and Nurse Joy was no exception. "Well, what kind of pokemon is it?" Nurse Joy asked patiently. "I don't know. It's small, brown, and furry. The tip of it's tail is white." Megan said in an effort to keep the description brief and vague. "Oh, that sounds like an eevee. A traienr must have dumped it. Does it have a collar?" This was the point of descion. If Megan said yes she would have to return the eevee to the miserable being it had been living before. If she said no she would be bring a heap of trouble down on her head. "No ma'am. No collar what so ever." Megan lied in a clear, stately voice. "Oh all right." The Nurse said, "I'll see you tommorrow for it's check up. i'm sure it's just tired and hungry." Megan sighed heavily and shook her head at her own foolishness. In TR she would have never dared...Maybe this was a step up. She was regaining her humanity it seemed. She turned to look at the pitiful creature she had rescued and stifled a gasp. In the eevee's place was a young girl who looked to be about twelve. She had locks of mouse brown hair that fell to her shoulders or would have if she had been sitting up. Her eyes were closed but Megan would venture to say that they were brown too. "Your still the eevee aren't you?" megan demanded suspiously. She wanted to be unhumane and take back everything she had done in the last three hours. This was more than she bargained for. The girl opened one deep brown eye to look at her before answering in English,"Yep." "You can morph." Megan stated the obvious bluntly then added as an afterthought, "Why are you trusting me?" "Do I have a choice?" The girl replied saucily yet still managed to sound pitiful and weak. She then decided to embelish, "I am an eevee. That is the only morph I can achieve. You understand. You were one of them before though not now." The eevee then drifted off to sleep abruptly leaving Megan with her thoughts. The first thing Megan did was collaspe backwards into her overstuffed armchair. Thoughts were running rampant. Of course there had always been talk of making humans that could morph into pokemon but it was supposedly just rumors. Megan shuddered at the thought of how many human and pokemon lives that were wasted so carelessly. What was the eevee refering to when she said one of them? That was twice now and still as puzzling. Suddenly it came to Megan. A scientist! That's what the eevee meant. She had been a scientist. How the eevee know that was a mystery and a puzzling one at that. Megan sat up and ran over her thoughts over and over again searching for the unanswerable. Chapter Three An intersting surprise lay on Megan's tiny weed infested yard the next morning when Megan returned home from a few hours of work. The surprise came in the form of a small, red vulpix. Five dark brown tail curled out from under it and peeked out. tow almond shaped, hazel eyes studied cautiously from under a thatch of red curls. "Hi ya. are you hungry?" Megan asked softly expecting the shy pokemon to bolt. Instead it replied, "Your a morph." Megan stated, "Let's go inside, okay?" The eevee was overjoyed to see her friend and the two wrestled and chattered in their pokemon forms. "I need to know your names. I can't keep calling you by your species names." Megan said flopping down on the chair. The vulpix replied in a confused tone. "They didn't even bother to give you names?" Privately Megan was shocked and outraged before remember that it was the higher scientist doing the testing. All they cared about was results. Had she stayed she would have turned out the same. Just another support for her reasoning that TR was ruining her. "Okay guys, just say when, when you hear a name you like. Jessica, Lily, Ginger, Julie, Alex, Carrie..." Megan started hammering off names. The vulpix asked timidly. "Okay..." Megan thought about it hard before answering, "How about Vikki?" "Great, now eevee just stop me when you hear one you like." Megan requested, "Joyce, Rosie, Eileen, Molly..." The eevee insisted. Megan stopped to think about. The eevee need a name that would fit her. Vikki had been easy because it seemed right. This was harder. "Faith." The eevee asked wrinkling her nose cutely. "Faith. Mew knows I'm going to need it in the immediate future." Megan said seriously. She said and cocked her head. "Now that that's settled we need to go to the pokemon center. I don't think Nurse Joy would mind looking at you Vikki." Megan said looking at her digital watch. Vikki trailed off unsure of herself and Megan groaned inwardly. Ma'am? She wasn't that old yet. Megan realized what a big mistake she had almost made. She hastily snipped off the collars with a pair of scizors and the three walked off out the door. Out the door and in to the bright world. Chaper Four "You must be the one who found the eevee." Nurse Joy greeted Megan in a high, cheery voice. How Joy could be that way all the time Megan didn't know. "That's me." Megan said placing Faith on the desk. Vikki leapt up and tucked her six tails under her neatly. "Oh, and who is this?" "This is Vikki. I found her this morning in my yard." "Well, you're just picking up pokemon everywhere, aren't you?" Joy teased then added, "They should be ready in about a half an hour." Megan walked out the door and pulled her light windbreaker tighter. It maybe be March but the weather was still a bit chilly. She strolled into the large park at the town's center. She had not really had the time to explore before so now seemed opportuned. The park was empty and Megan made her way to the small pond in the center. It was murky and poliwags lived in it. A thin grove of silver birch trees surrounded it budding with new leaves. *** "Back so soon?" Nurse Joy asked from behind her desk. She took one look at the green heap in Megan's arms and gasped, "Chansey! We need to take this bulbasaur to the ER. It looks bad." ~2 hours later~ "Bulbasaur will be fine. Do you wish to take her too? I know this is sudden." Nurse Joy said with a small smile. Megan sighed in defeat. Vikki and Faith's reaction had proved the bulbasaur to be another morph. Just what she needed. "Why not." Megan chirped plastering a grin on her face, "Do you know where I can get some pokefood? It looks like I'll need it." Faith and Vikki's faces contorted in disgust but both knew better than to say anything. Not with Nurse Joy standing there. "The pokemart is just down the street." Joy replied missing the entire exchange between the three. "You might want to buy pokeballs while you are there." "Thanks." Megan called over her shoulder. Things are looking down. Just how many morphs escaped? Chapter Five Megan arrived home dreading what might be waiting there. Another homeless, defenseless, scared morph. Luckily the yard was clear and the door was still locked. The windows were shut and everything was in place. Vikki and Faith were chattering in their human forms about the new clothes Megan had bought them She had also gotten pokefood, pokeballs, and some human food. The equivalant was a small fortune. Megan was trying to save money not spend it! Pansy the bulbasaur had stayed in pokemon form. She seemed to prefer it. In fact she refused to take her human form or use thought speech. She was almost a normal pokemon. She was loyal though and stayed at Megan's heels where ever she went. Megan unlocked the door and stepped inside. Nothing was out of place. She hung the keys up careful and walked into the kitchen to make them lunch. A nasty surprise lurked in there. A loud yell emitted and Vikki and Faith came running. The two girls stopped in the doorway. Vikki's mouth was open and Faith was stiffling small giggles. Megan was standing in the room with her arms crossed and her gray eyes narrowed. Around her were three more pokemon. Pansy kept snapping her vines sharply when one came too close. The sandshrew took a slap on the nose and Faith burst out laughing. The sandshrew gave her a rasberry with his gray tongue and pulled down his lower eyelid. Quite a feat if you consider it. "Just how many more are there? My house is not a zoo! or a refuge for rejects!" She felt bad after saying that and the gastly looked hurt. Faith ignored her outburst and explained, "Just us. Calm down and you'll feel better. You're too mad and shocked right now. You might break something." When Faith said, 'Just us' Megan felt like screaming. She had been tricked. Now she was saddled with six pokemon that she didn't want responsiblity of. An eevee? Fine. A vulpix too. Sure. A bulbasaur! Last one! A mareep, sandshrew, and gastly. No way. What was Megan going to do? She couldn't raise six mutated teenagers. She was barely out of her teens! She didn't have the money or the time to take care of them. Needless to say Megan played the name game again and three new members were added to the household. The gastly insisted on being called Phil. An odd but somehow fitting name. The sandshrew choose Rick and it suited him. He and Faith were constantly baiting each other. The mareep decided on Mitch. He was somewhat reserved and did not take orders. *** It was dinner time and the morphs were seated all around the livingroom eating tv dinners. Megan was not much of a cook and her freezer was stuffed with the things. "What I'm I suppose to do with you guys?" She sighed, "I can't keep you." "Sure you can." Rick assured her through a mouth full of magikarp sticks. His human form was well built and sturdy. He was also good-looking by human standards with sandy blond hair and dark brown eyes. "Eeww. Close your mouth." Faith squealed at Rick. He ignored her. "We won't be any trouble." Mitch said in a arguementitive tone narrowing his purple eyes slightly. "What are you going to do with us?" Vikki asked quietly with her hazel eyes pleading. "She's going to keep us. We can be one big happy family." Faith chimed in before Megan could even start her sentense. "What is this? The Brady Bunch? I can't keep all of you! My budget does not include six growing teens." Megan almost yelled in horror. Phil and Pansy were silent although for vastly different reasons. Phil's mind was desperately searching for an answer. A solution that would be exceptable to everyone. He drifted aimlessly and ignored the conversation going on below. Pansy sat mutely by Megan. Her master had saved her and she was putting trust in Megan's good nature. What ever Megan decreed would be satisfying even if it was back out into the forest. How is the problem to be solved? Only time will show the way. Author's note: Heh, all characters are copyrighted to ME! Um... yah. Tell me if ya like it.
