Chapter two: Memories

Drip, drip, drip. That's all I hear all day and all night. Another thing to ask the guard to fix. I bet he feels like my caretake. Actually that's what he is. And all I am is some rare, dangerous critter in a private zoo.

I hear other sounds too. The other day someone was tortured. Jazz and I could hear the unfortunate's screams loud and clear. They went on for over twenty minutes before the person cut out and died of shock, or at least that's what I was told happened.

Now I am patiently waiting to hear the telltale sqeaks of the food cart. They should start up anytime now. My guard is unusually prompt. Maybe he found out what happened to the last guy. He lost his head.

I was the cause of his demise. It weighs on my heart every once in awhile, but rarely heavily because to be quite honest the guy was mentally unstable to put it nicely. To put it the way it truely is he was a horomone driven pig. That's what got him in such deep trouble. Jazz was the only thing that saved me. People underestimate the power of an eevee.

Outside I can hear trainers commanding thier pokemon. I step over to the window and peer down through the thick, black bars. Two young trainers were battling. Since they were outside of the fence they most likely are from a nearby town and not T.R.

Listening to them talk brings back memories. It seemed the girl had just recieved her first pokemon. It reminded me of my first pokemon, a bulbasaur.

*****Flashback******

"Hurry Jackki!" a tall boy shouted over his shoulder.

"I'm coming! Slow down Kerry." Jackki panted.

"No way! By the time we get there all the good ones will be taken. I want a charmander and by Mew that's what I'll get."

Only when they reached a tall, white building did Kerry slow down. He waited impatiently for Jackki to catch up.

From the other direction two younger boys emerged. One was tall and thin with light brown hair and the other was even taller with dark brown hair.

"Hi. Are you guys finally getting your pokemon?" Alex asked. He was the dark haired boy.

"Mom says we are old enough this year too." Aaron added.

Jackki scowled. It was no fair. She was now twelve and just beginning her journey as a pokemon trainer.

"Hurry hurry hurry! I'm getting a charmander." Kerry stated excitedly before jogging inside. The other three to be trainers followed.

The labratory was spacious inside. In the center stood Professor Rowan. He leaned on a table which held five pokeballs.

"Good morning kids. Ready to start your journeys?" he asked them plesantly.

"Professor, I want a charamander!" Kerry requested.

"Are you sure?"

"Absolutely." was the confident reply.

Silently he handed a pokeball over to Kerry who snatched it eagarly out of his hand.

"Do the rest of you know what you want?"

Aaron gazed at them for a moment before picking up a pokeball with a fire symbol.

"Good choice. That is vulpix." Professor informed them.

Alex was next. Confidently he plucked a pokeball up not even looking to see what it was.

"That pokeball contains sandshrew." Rowan said knowing that he really wasn't needed. The town of Shadow turned out an average of five trainers a year and at least four made a solid reputation for themselves and Shadow.

People tended to overlook the small town because it was small. What most people didn't know was that Lance of the Elite Four was born and raised there and that Will from the Johto Elite was also.

Jackki looked down at the two balls before her. She knew one was squirtle and the other bulbasaur. The only problem was which to pick.

The problem was solved when a small hand shot forward grabbing the water pokemon's ball.

An impish little girl stood clutching it in her hands.

"Roberta your late."

"So? I got here didn't I?"

Rowan sighed but didn't argue.

Jackki claimed the last ball and the five children trooped out the door.

By the time they reached the road Roberta was long gone leaving the other four to themselves.

"I guess will be seeing you." Aaron said cheerfully.

"Yeah." his twin echoed sadly.

The two trainers watched in silence as the twins faded from view into the forest.

"I suppose this is goodbye." Kerry said quietly shifting from foot to foot.

"I'll miss you."

"I'll miss you too." Kerry said before bending down and pecking her on the lips. He grinned cheekily before bounding down the road and out of sight.

*****end*****

How could a journey that started out so well end so bad? I wondered. That certainly wasn't the last time I saw Kerry or the twins but it seemed the best time. That is before we changed and drifted apart.
