Diclaimer: Evil as the thing is I have to put it in. I don't own pokemon and all it's pocket monsters belong to gamefreak, WB, nintindo, and a bunch of other people.

Chapter four: A new member

"Please." I begged.

"How do you expect me to get it for you, huh? The Boss is picky about what prisoners are allowed to have. No, he would never consent." Greta said shaking her head slowly.

"Who says he has to know?"

"Quiet you. By now I would think you would have the sense to know that these here walls have ears. He has his sources. No." Greta told me sternly and refused again.

"Why not?"

"End of converstaion." she told me roughly and shoved a pile of clean clothes in my arms, "Here. Put these away."

"But..." I began sounding like a whiney little kid.

"No buts. Now do as I say and maybe I will put in a request for you."

I remembered my former guard who had put in a request and asked almost fearfully, "What happened to Jake?"

Greta heard my fear and said seriously, "Who's he?"

"My former guard."

"Why do you ask me this now? Why so fearful?" she questioned.

"Well, he put in a request for me and I never saw him again." I sniffed and Jazz jumped up on my lap as I sat down on the lumpy bed.

Greta seemed relieved and chuckled, "My poor naive child. He was promoted to a higher rank for proving his loyalty and the ability to handle the task given."

"What if you are promoted?" I asked as a new thought came to me.

"Never. I will simply refuse."

Tears brimmed in my violet eyes and I asked, "You would do that for me?"

"Absolutely. Besides I like my job. Before I was scrubing toilets." she said happily then added, "Now I must go. No slacking off."

I watched as she walked out the door shutting it none to gently behind her. Over the last month we had became friends of sort despite our rough meeting. I was disgusted with myself for acting like such a baby, but I had lost too many friends not to care.

*****Flashback*****

Jackki left Professor Oak's house bright and early the next morning. She cheerfully waved back at Oak and Tracey as she started down the road.

She easily made it to Pewter that day and beat the gym leader. He surrendered the boulderbadge and asked her a favor.

"If you met up with my son Brock tell him his father and siblings said hi and good luck with your dreams." Flint requested.

Jackki agreed and started out for the next town. She added Brock to the talk to list after Gary and Ash.

"Bulba?" Classical asked from beside her.

"Can't you wait until we reach the next town?" Jackki asked him.

Classical nodded and kept walking. They reached Cerulean City and Jackki battled the three beautiful sisters and added another person to say hi to on her list.

She decided to spend the rest of the day looking around the town. She and Classical stopped beside a pretty fountain to take a break.

"Bulba?"

"Now? Oh well. A promise is a promise." Jackki grinned and took the small harp out of her bag. Classical snatched and placed it beside him. Gently he ran his vines across it.

Jackki pulled the other three off her belt and let them out. Country dived head first in to Jackki's pack and trumphantly yanked the harmonica out. Blues soared upward and played on the updrafts. Rhythm leaped of the steps and pranced around in the square.

They had been playing for awhile before Jackki noticed a large crowd had gathered. Quickly she wrapped up the proformance. She was surprised when people started to cheer and even toss up some money. It was awhile before the crowd of people slowly drifted away.

"Hey there Jackki. Have you gotten any badges yet?" Aaron asked as he and his brother appeared.

"Yep. Two badges." Jackki told him proudly showing them.

"That's great. We have three and were on our way out of town when we saw the large mob. I thought Roberta was the cause of it, you know how she is, but it turned out to be you." Alex said.

"It's amazing how your pokemon are trained like that. It must tighten the bond between you guys." Aaron added.

"That's funny. Professor Oak said practically the same thing." Jackki told them.

Aaron looked horrified and said mockingly, "I sounded like him? What's the world coming to?"

Alex nudged him then said, "We gotta go. See you in the next town." The duo walked off leaving Jackki with her pokemon.

Jackki looked at Classical and said, "That was abrupt. I hope they are okay. Even Aaron seemed distant and he's always sincere."

Classical had no answer and shrugged, "Bulba?"

"They see you as a potential rival. A obsticle." a girl's voice rung out.

Jackki looked up to see Roberta. The short girl leaned against the fontain and her squirtle swam in it.

"Do you see me as an obsticle?"

"No, I see you as a musican. Not a pokemon battler. You'll quit before next month. Face it your not cut out for the pokemon trainer biz." Roberta pointed out then added, "The sooner you realize this the better off you'll be." She then returned her squirtle and disappered down the street.

As Jackki walked down the path to Vermillon she wondered if Roberta was right. She never really had the ambitous dream of becoming a pokemon master, but rather did it because that's what young people did. Maybe she should give up.

"Saur? Bulba?" Classical questioned in his limited vocabulary.

"I just don't know."

Classical gazed at his trainer for a moment before lifting up her jacket flap and pointing to the two shiny badges.

"Your right. I shouldn't give up now. We've done alright for ourselves so far."

Having settled her internal battle she picked up the pace and strolled in to the pokecenter just before curfew. To her surprise a man was arguing with Nurse Joy.

"I need a good trainer for mah pokemon. He's not 'specially strong, but he's obediant and loyal." the man told the pink haired nurse.

"Sir, I'm afraid I can't take your pokemon. It's against the centers rules." she said shaking her head.

Classical raced over as fast as his short legs could carry him and snatched the pokeball out of the man's hand much to Nurse Joy, the man, and Jackki's shock.

She rushed over apoligizing profusely, "I'm sooo soorry. He's never acted this way before. Classical you know better than that." she added to her plant pokemon.

"Say you ain't a trainer are ya?" the man asked her.

"Well actually I am. Why?"

"Keep 'im then." the large man said then stomped out of the center with his heavy boots ignore Nurse Joy and Jackki's protests.

Numbly she stared at the pokeball that Classical held with his vines. Gently she picked it up and released the pokemon inside. Out came a cute brown eevee. He looked around in confusion before settling on Classical. The plant pokemon explained in pokespeech while Jackki waited patiently.

The eevee then jumped up on her shoulder or tried to. He fell short and Jackki caught him.

"I guess he's yours now." Nurse Joy told her then added, "Curfew. You need to go to bed."

*****End****

Jackki smiled down at Jazz and thought, "The man was right. Obediant and loyal. Traits that are not so bad to have."
