"I am very disappointed, Gary. Why did you do this?" "It's obvious." Gary replied curtly. "To get back at Ash. Team Rocket has Ash at the top of their charts." "Jeez, you didn't have to join Team Rocket!" "Hey, I feel at home there. They say I'm a natural. Oh yeah, gramps, you don't have to be too disappointed. I have a high paying check, and I'll lend you some for research." "Keep your dirty money." "You two can finish this in jail, between bars. Is everyone okay?" Officer Jenny said as she walked in. Nurse Joy accompanied her, followed by a Blissey. "Well, my friend here is hurt real bad. And those electric pokémon need help too. The only things us humans have are chaffed wrists." "Ash pointed out. "Oh dear. Officer, can you take Mr. Gary out to the street, where I can administer the anti-paralysis?" Nurse Joy asked. "Sure thing. Just let me cuff him the right way." She said. Afterward, the water was full of life, and everything was back to normal. Sort of. The townspeople never stopped chattering away about the awful happenings during the night. With race day just five days away, everyone was getting in extra practice. But something seemed awry. Latias was almost never out in public anymore, and no one knew why. No one except Bianca. And she said she would never tell why, they would find out on race day. They then took a stroll along the beach, and sat down to enjoy the sunset. They sat there in contented silence, when Ash felt a small pressure on his shoulder. Poor Latias had fallen asleep already. Today was a hard day. "It's race day here folks, and already trainers from around the region are clogging the waterways. With five minutes till countdown, the trainers are already lined up. In spot one we have… … … In spot twelve we have May Watercrest with her Marshtomp. In spot thirteen we have… … … In spot eighteen we have Ash Ketchum with his Sharpedo. In spot nineteen… … …" The speaker system was blaring all around Altomare. Everyone was crowded around all the bridges and the walkways, desperately trying to gain a spot where they could see. Ash was on his yellow and teal pod, an eighteen emblazoned on the front. "Shar!" His Sharpedo called enthusiastically. "On your marks, get set, and…GO!" The voice called in unison with a loud air gun. "Looks like Jimmy has the lead followed in hot pursuit by Ash followed by May… now we have May in the lead with Ash then Jimmy, here comes the first curve, and OH! Ashley took advantage of the inside corner. The lineup is Ashley, Rick, May, Ash, but wait! Ash pulls in the lead tied with May. Someone has already crashed, knocked down by Spencer's Milotic. Here comes the finish line. Boy is Sharpedo pushing itself! Look at that level of determination! Looks like this is going to be a photo finish, folks!" Sharpedo was going so fast that he didn't see the wall. Wham! Sharpedo cracked a few bricks, while Ash fell into the water. "Whoa!" he exclaimed as he flew ten feet and landed with a splash. Up on the big screen, the slowmo of Sharpedo and Marshtomp at the same speed. But a couple of frames later, Sharpedo barely pulled ahead, by about an inch, and won. "Good job, Ash." May said as she helped him out of the water. "You too." He said. He accepted his amulet of Altomare's crest, when a murmur filled the crowd. "Lai!" A familiar voice shouted. "There she is! Hey, Latias!" A townsperson shouted. Latias came flying down into a swooping dive under the main bridge, and landed near Ash. "Hi." He said. Latias presented him with a gold amulet, which had an engraving of 'Altomare, people of the sea' on it. "Hooray for the Tour dé Altomare winner!" Someone shouted. The loudspeaker came alive again. "Ashton Ketchum, winner of the Tour dé Altomare. Latias presents you this official amulet, which clarifies you as the winner. You can use the water sports equipment for free now, along with a free dinner at The Pikablu Steakhouse." Everyone cheered. Professor Oak was even there to congratulate him. The day went on, and everyone was in a festive mood. Latias freely roamed the streets, playing with children and enjoying herself. On the day that Ash had to leave, they said their goodbyes, and started to depart for the ship with all the other round trip ticket holders, when a girl with brown hair spiked in two places, a green shirt covering a white one, and black short shorts came running up. "Hey. What's up?" Ash questioned. But she never said a word. She just gave him a beautifully painted picture of a sunset, with Ash sitting along the beach, Latias asleep on his shoulder. "Who drew this?" He asked, but she was already running down the dock. Ash and co. sailed Away from Altomare, a lifetime of memories in everyone's hearts. The end.
