Chapter Three: The Pewter Challenge John awoke the next morning laying on the wooden floor. He got up, then stretched and yawned, as he peered around the room he didn’t see a trace of where Donio went. Though he didn’t care much. He then walked toward the door and opened it, he stood outside for a minute then start pacing forward, we didn’t see much while traveling through Viridian Forest; Thankfully. “Hey you! Be warned soon you will be entering Pewter City! It’s tough, very tough. The gym leader Brock won’t let you win easily. Just a fair warning.” A tough looking boy said while pointing at something. John shrugged and went on. John started walking through large pathways, most of it was grass and trees, he walked further but noticed something. Something lying on the ground, it was a girl. She had beautiful cornflower blonde hair that went barely past her shoulders. She was petite and wore a pink t-shirt and blue jeans. She also had a beautiful smile, which then draped into a frown. She was on her knees looking down at a small pokemon. It had crimson red fur covering it’s body, six short curled tails, two ambers eyes and looked like a small fox. John remembered seeing this pokemon at the pokemon center. He then curiously pulled out his pokedex and pointed it at the small pokemon. Vulpix, the fox like pokemon. When it is born it has one small white tail. As it grows older it grows into six tails. Do not mess with this pokemon or it may release flames at you. “Heh, sounds weak to me.” John muttered to himself. John walked right passed the girl, she was crying. John didn’t know or care why either. But for some reason when he passed the girl said something. “You aren’t even going to comfort me! You just walk past all of the girls when they’re in need! You’re like all men… Disgusting, and lazy.” She yelled at John. John was actually now afraid of this girl. “Eh.. Bu-.” John replied, just when the girl interrupted him. “Agh! You don’t even care! Do you? I just got dumped by my boyfriend Scott… He’s a dirty pig…” The girl yelled. John acted as if he was interested, though he wasn’t remotely interested; at all. “Cool…” John replied not even listening to the girl’s words, but he seemed to have made a bad move. “Cool! Cool? How is it COOL!” The girl said angrily yelling. John was now frightened. John just shrugged and then walked away, after minutes he started running. He looked back to make sure she wasn’t following, thankfully she wasn’t. John now was looking at a sign that read ‘Pewter City Up Ahead’ he smirked then ran through the clearing of trees. He was now in a somewhat large town. It had many things. First he saw a pokecenter which he didn’t care much of, next a pokemart. Then he saw some construction and atleast twenty people working. Next their was a Gym, which has a fence in the front sliding around to the edge of the building. And finally there were some houses and a museum far in back. “Let’s see… I’ll go to the pokecenter first, then the gym. Then the museum.” John muttered to himself quietly. John then took a step further, then walked toward the large building. He shoved the door open, and surprisingly he saw a nurse which looked exactly like the one in Viridian. He shrugged and started walking toward the lounge, as he almost sat on a lounge couch he got up and walked closer to a tapestry on the wall. On it was one large bird it was yellow, it was on the left, another bird which was blue, it was on the right. Another bird, which was red and yellow, it was on top. Then he saw something in the middle. It was pink, cute and looked like a kitten. Then someone walked up to him. A girl with long brown hiar, a blue t-shirt, and black sweat pants, she had glimmering amber eyes. “Hey, I see you’re looking at the ancient pokemon...” She said nudging John. “Huh? Uh.. yah.” John replied. “Well the one on the left is Zapdos, it is the legendary bird of thunder. On the Right is Articuno, the legendary bird of ice. Then on the top is Moltres, the legendary bird of fire. And in the middle is the strongest pokemon known, it is said to have DNA of every pokemon known. Just a myth though, its name is Mew.” She said while pointing at the pictures as she said what they were. Now John seemed even more interested. “How do you know all of this?” John asked curiously. “About every pokemon trainer knows it, yet none have encountered these pokemon. They are all myths, I personally think they’re true but some think they’re rubbish. How about you?” She said. “Eh, I suppose I believe it.” John replied. She then smiled and continued with the conversation. “I’ve also heard that there are three more legendaries…” She said quietly poking John. ”Three?” John asked curiously. ”Yah, but that’s just a rumor… Not even close to a myth, I heard one is the God of the Seas. The other is the God of Fire. And then, the other… It’s the strongest pokemon known…” She said quietly. John’s face gave an interesting expression. “But I thought Mew...” John said while getting interrupted by the girl. “Yes I know what I said about Mew, just be quiet…” She said. John then waved she waved back and then he walked out of the pokecenter. He smirked then headed for the gym. In spite of the one trainer warning the gym leader was good John still continued. John saw a large building; next to the door the word ‘Gym’ was placed. John ran to the door and shoved it open. Inside their were various trainers known as ‘Gym Apprentices’ Also there was an Announcer with a flag in his hand, and a whistle in his mouth. “You! I am Brock, the Gym Leader of Pewter City. Do you wish to challenge me?” A person with spiky brown hair, closed shut eyes, a tan complexion, a strong build and somewhat tall said deeply. “Yes, I am John Sammon from Pallet Town! I have come to challenge you.” John said excitedly. Brock smirked, the the announcer threw a green flag down. “Brock, Gym Leader of Pewter City and John Sammon From Pallet Town, Both of you will be using One pokemon. Let the battle begin!” The announcer yelled over a speakerphone. Brock threw a ball towards the ground, John appeared terrified when it emerged from the small tiny ball. A long giant pokemon uncurled, it took up atleast half of the stadium. It had a giant spike on the top of it’s head. It was a dark grey, and had two large beady eyes. “Onnniixxxx!” Its roar shook the building. John trembled with fear but kept going. “G-g-go! Nidoran!” John stuttered. The small pink pokemon shot from the ball. It moved it’s eyes up toward the giant pokemon in front of it. “Nidd-nidd-oran..” It squealed in fear. “Come on Nidoran! Don’t let it intimidate you! Size doesn’t matter.” John lied plainly. “Hmp! I see you haven’t barley trained your pokemon. You should fell disgraced of yourself, using such a weak pokemon. It looks as if it’s barely even been used in battle. I suggest training before you battle me.” Brock said. John didn’t reply, he was determined to win at all costs. “Nidoran, hit it with a tackle!” John commanded. Brock could only laugh as the small pokemon rammed into onix, barely doing anything at all. “Heh! That was hilarious. Onix! Use bide!” Brock commanded briefly. The large snake like thing didn’t move, but its body glowed red. “Yah, and like that’s gonna help you! Nidoran poison sting!” He said loudly. The small pokemon shot a tiny needle at onix, it reflected off and fell to the ground. “Onix unleash your bide!” Brock said. The large pokemon shot down to the ground, but only missed the small nidoran. Instead it crushed the stadium below it, therefore hurting onix. “Eh, you clumsy pokemon…” Brock muttered. John smirked, he then thought of an idea. “Ok, nidoran quick attack!” He said smirking. The small pokemon zoomed across the stadium. While onix kept crushing down upon nidoran; but kept missing. Every shot onix tried missed, onix was now whimpering and the whole stadium was crushed. It slowly staggered around the fell down with an earthquake like thump. “Onix! You can’t lose that easily… Get up!” Brock yell, somewhat sobbing. “ Brock’s Onix is unable to fight. John Sammon Wins the match!” The announcer yelled. Brock wiper his tear secretly so none of the people thought he was a wimp, then he handed John his very first badge. It looked like a small rock or boulder. “Here, you deserve this. The boulder badge.” Brock said while staggering back to the end of the gym. John smiled then walked out of the gym with pride. He looked around, he then stuck the badge on his red shirt. He then saw something, to his horror it was the girl from earlier. John slowly crept so she wouldn’t see him but to late she yelled at him. “You! From earlier! I want to battle you!” She called out to John. John gave a weird look on his face. But also, it was to late. She had already ran next to him. “Ok! One pokemon each, got it?” She said. John shrugged and threw a pokeball, his nidoran was weakened from the battle before so John used his pidgey. “Piidgeyy!” It chirped, the girl had already had her vulpix beside her. “Vulpix! Ember!” She yelled. The fox like pokemon spat flames at pidgey. “Pidgey, hurry. Gust attack!” John said quickly. The small bird flapped its wings, faster and faster. A large gust of wind blew the flames away, and knocked the vulpix back. “Don’t let that pidgey touch you! Tackle attack!” She called out. John wandered is the girl was even trying, obviously pidgey was in the air and could fly higher than any pokemon could jump. The vulpix leapt towards pidgey, but failed and hit the ground. “Hey! That’s not fair!” The girl yelled angrily. “Eh, learn better tactics is all I have to say.” John replied. ”You should’ve used a different pokemon! Cheater!” She yelled louder. John didn’t reply, but there was no way he would use nidoran after it had been tired out. “Pidgey wing attack!” John called to his pokemon, the bird shot down at vulpix and whacked it with its wing. The vulpix was sent flying into the building closet by. It fainted. “Hey! You h-h-hurt my precious vulpix!” She yelled, then ran to her pokemon and picked it up. She carried it in her arms and ran away. John really didn’t understand what he did. “Go figure…” John muttered to himself quietly.
