Disclaimer: I don’t own pokemon. At all. This is just a fanfic. However, if you know a way I can own pokemon, please tell ;) This time, I chose a poke’mon more appropriate than Dugtrio. “Venusaur, go! Use razor leaf.” Venusaur did so, and Suicune turned around mid-hydro pump, his eyes blazing. I was surprised. Suicune didn’t look like he was hurt by Venusaur’s razor leaf at all. Then it hit me. Suicune didn’t get hydro pump until level seventy-one, and my recently evolved Venusaur was only at roughly level fifty-six to sixty. “Venusaur, get behind Suicune!” Venusaur, fast on his feet for such a large poke’mon, set out to do so, but suicune had different ideas. He roared. And then Venusar had retreated. I was afraid of this. One of Suicune’s signature moves was Roar, and, as I had heard it, that was how he got away so often. He would just roar, and in the time that it took for another poke’mon to come out in the place of the one that had just been out, Suicune was long gone. This, however was not a fight where suicune would back down. I waited anxiously to see which poke’mon would come out. I sighed out of relief. The red beam that would transport a poke’mon to the field from the poke’ball came from Magneton’s Poke’ball, the only other good choice there was. “Magneton, use thunder!” My best bet at the moment if I wanted to take Suicune out quickly. Unfortunately, thunder is a move that’s a bit harder to make hit than others because it’s basically just a big blast of electricity. The electricity is hard to see around for both the trainer and the poke’mon. Suicune dodged it easily. And roared again. This time it was Crobat that came out. Not my first choice but I could definitely work with him. “Crobat, use toxic!” I smiled. This was actually the best poke’mon I could hope for. Toxic would take him down little by little each turn, so even if suicune kept using roar, he would eventually not be able to battle. Suicune used roar one more time, and Dugtrio came from his poke’ball. I groaned. Up until now my luck had been good. Chances were that suicune would fight Dugtrio because of Dugtrio’s weakness to water moves. Suicune had probably been using roar so he could fight Dugtrio specifically. Not that it actually mattered. Suicune was fifteen to twenty levels higher than any of my poke’mon and could therefore take my poke’mon down one by one if he wanted to. I had an idea then. If Suicune was not going to stop using roar until Dugtrio was out, I’d just have to let him have his way. It was a long shot, but if I could get it to work... “Dugtrio, sand attack!” Dugtrio sped toward Suicune and at the last moment backed away, sending dirt and dust flying into Suicune’s eyes. Suicune, while trying to get the dust out of his eyes, sent off a random hydro pump. It missed. “Sand attack again, Dugtrio!” My heart raced. If Suicune got even one water attack in, my whole strategy would fall apart. Suicune sent off a bubble beam, a move that’s more accurate, but Dugtrio dodged it. “Sand attack!” One last time Dugtrio sped toward Suicune and stopped at the last moment. Suicune yelped as he tried desperately to wipe the dirt out of his eyes. This was my chance. Quickly and quietly I switched Dugtrio with Magneton. “Lock-on!” I said, without revealing who I was telling to use the move that would make the next move always hit. “Now Thunder!” Suicune, who had suddenly wised up to my plan looked up and shot off bubblebeam. It was too late though. Magneton had already sent off thunder. A millisecond later, Suicune had fainted. I sighed out of relief. Suddenly my knees went weak and I slid to the ground. “Magneton, return.” I said. My voice was no louder than a whisper, but that was as loud as I needed it to be. “Wow! Bravo! You did it!” The trainer across from me yelled. Again I jumped. I tell you, when I get into a battle, there’s nothing but me, my poke’mon and the opponents poke’mon. I felt a nudge on my hand and lifted my arm to let Umbreon slide under it. “You must teach me!” The trainer continued. “You are so good at this! I thought that I would always win, but... but you did what I never could’ve done! You have to teach me!” I stood up with the help of Umbreon. “No.” I said blatantly. “You have to!” The trainer came to stand by my side. “No.” I said, and started walking toward Goldenrod city. It couldn’t be that far away, could it? I thought I had seen the daycare center a while back. “Please?” “No.” “Please?” “No.” Man, this boy was persistent! “Well, can I at least follow you around?” I sighed. This was how I was going to be wasn’t it? For the rest of my life I’d have a tiny little Destiny Trainer following me. Maybe I could force the destiny out of him, I thought. “Will it get you to stop asking me to teach you?” The trainer nodded vigorously. “Fine.” I said, and headed toward Goldenrod.
