Hey how you all doing? This is a work in progress but read it if you think it appeals to you. I don’t own Pokemon or any of the other bits and pieces that are related to it, so don’t sue me. If you have the need to sue someone, try the government.

Or not…

Enjoy.

Beginning, Middle, End – Isaac’s Journey

Chapter One

‘Pokemon Lab – Professor Oak Residing’

Isaac looked from the sign to the building itself. *Not much of a lab* he mused. *Looks more like a greenhouse*. Somewhere overhead, lightning flashed and thunder roared. Isaac pulled his hood more firmly over his head as the rain washed over him. He ran up the path to the door and knocked several times, hoping that the ‘Famous Professor’ would be home. Leaning heavily against the door, he shivered slightly and fell into deep thought. He had travelled all the way to Pallet from Fuschia City in order to start his own Pokemon journey. He was all ready 15 and most of his friends had left years ago to begin their own. Some how, he had always been delayed. His parents wouldn’t let him, or he arrived to late. *Not this time* he thought. *This time I wont be held back by anything. Nothings gonna stand in my way…*

Without warning, the door fell inwards and Isaac fell with it. He hit the floor heavily and looked up to see a pair of dirty brown shoes in front of his face.

*Oh yay. It’s been 12 seconds and I’ve all ready made an idiot of myself…*

“Oh my, I’m terribly sorry,” said a voice from above. “Here, let me help you up…”

Isaac felt a hand clasp on to his jacket and began pulling him to his feet. He looked up and stared at the face of the famous Professor Oak, leading Pokemon expert and former league champion.

*Must’ve been former, former champ* Isaac thought. *He looks pretty damn old…*

“There now, that’s better,” Oak said. “I am most terribly sorry, I didn’t realise you might…”

“It’s ok,” Isaac interrupted. “My fault for leaning on the door.”

“Yes, well…” Oak replied. “Please do come in.”

Isaac gratefully stepped further into the opening passage of the lab and removed his hood and automatically rubbed his hair. He was about 5’8 with a medium build. His hair was patched black and white and his eyes were dark brown. Behind him, Professor Oak shut the door.

“So, what can I do for you… uhh…”

“Sorry, my name’s Isaac. I’m here to start my Pokemon journey.”

“Ahh, I see. Well why don’t we get out of my passage and into a more warmer room and we’ll discuss it further,” Oak proclaimed.

He led Isaac down a hall and into a large office area. Tables hugged the walls, computers littered the tables, and other assorted bits and pieces clung off everything. Pulling some chairs from out of a corner, the professor motioned Isaac to sit while he followed suit.

“Well now, I don’t believe I’ve introduced myself properly,” Oak began. “As you may have guessed I am Professor Oak…”

*Oh come on and get to the point…* Isaac thought.

“… and I lead the Pokemon research here in this lab. Now, Isaac wasn’t it?”

Isaac replied with a nod and a roll of his eyes, which the professor didn’t catch.

“You’ll have to forgive me asking, but you look a little old to be starting a Pokemon journey. Most trainers start out when they’re ten,” Oak informed.

Isaac merely shrugged.

“I kept getting held up,” he replied.

Oak eyed him quizzically.

“I see… well I can’t stop you from starting you know. In fact, the sooner the better as I always say.”

Isaac refrained himself from rolling his eyes again.

*Is this guy for real?* he wondered.

“Now, on to the main question: which starter Pokemon did you want? I just received a new batch of all three and they’re eager to leave with a trainer.”

Isaac had all ready thought this question over. *Heck, I’ve been thinking of it for five years now* he privately thought.

“I’d like to have a Bulbasaur,” he said. “…please.”

“Jolly good,” Oak beamed. “Right, lets get you sorted out then.”

The professor stood up and Isaac followed. Both of them left the room, only to enter an even larger area. However, this one was missing the mess and cluttered areas that the previous room had. In the middle though was a machine that resembled some kind of table. On top of it, sitting within three pods were three pokeballs. Isaac knew that they contained the Pokemon offered to starting trainers, Squirtle, Charmander, and of course, Bulbasaur. Oak walked over, picked up one of the balls and handed it to Isaac.

“Now, are you sure this is the one you want?” Oak asked.

Isaac grasped the ball firmly and threw it forward.

“Bulbasaur, go!” he shouted.

The pokeball opened and released a wave of white energy which materialised into a small, green creature with a large bulb on it’s back, more commonly known as a Bulbasaur.

“Bulba… bul…” it murmured as it carefully viewed its surroundings.

“Yeah I’m pretty sure,” Isaac said. He approached the small Pokemon and knelt down.

“Hi there Bulbasaur,” he said gently. “I’m your new trainer Isaac.”

Bulbasaur looked up at the boys face and saw the warmth in his eyes. It walked forward and allowed Isaac to scratch his chin.

“How would you like to come with me on a journey?” Isaac asked. “I’ll help you become stronger and you can make friends with the other Pokemon I catch. All I ask in return is that you’ll help me achieve my goal of defeating every gym leader and placing first in the Indigo League tournament.”

Bulbasaur looked thoughtful for a minute, and then leaped on to Isaac’s chest, knocking him on to his back.

“Hey, take it easy,” Isaac exclaimed. “I’ll take that as a yes then shall I?”

“Bulba!” the young Pokemon replied, beaming from ear to ear.

“Well it looks like you two were made for each other,” Oak said from behind. “I’d say you’d both make a perfect team.”

“Thanks professor,” Isaac said. Bulbasaur jumped off his chest while he stood up. Professor Oak went over to a desk and rummaged around the draws for a second, before coming back with an arm full of different items.

“Here is your starter kit,” he told Isaac. “You have five pokeballs plus the one that will hold Bulbasaur, one potion which should be used for when you can’t reach the Pokemon Centre in time, and your Pokedex which will provide information on any Pokemon you find and record it all for safe keeping. It also acts as a…”

“…form of identification, and shows a map of Kanto should you lose your way,” Isaac finished. “That’s exactly what you wrote in your book for starter trainers.”

Oak scratched the back of his head thoughtfully.

“Yes, I’ve been meaning to update that edition.”

Isaac rolled his eyes and packed the stuff into his backpack.

“Right… well I should get going now,” he said.

“Jolly good. Always glad to see the enthusiasm of new trainers,” Oak proclaimed.

*He has got to get out more* Isaac mused, and headed for the door. “C’mon Bulbasaur, let’s get going.”

Bulbasaur came running after him. “Saur Saur, Bulba.”

“Goodbye Isaac, and good luck with your journey,” Oak called out to him.

“Thanks professor. See you later,” Isaac yelled back, and headed out the door. The rain had stopped, he had a new partner, and he was finally on his way to achieve his own Pokemon dream.
