Chapter 2

The road ahead stretched over the fields and beyond the horizon. Isaac walked along, Pokedex in hand and Bulbasaur at his side.

“I better check what attacks you know before we leap into a battle,” he told Bulbasaur. Aiming the Pokedex at the small grass Pokemon resulted in a beep and a picture of Bulbasaur appeared on the screen.

“Bulbasaur,” a computer like voice read. “The Bulb Pokemon. Scientist do not know whether to classify this Pokemon as a plant or animal due to the large bulb growing on its back.”

Isaac pressed a button and the description continued.

“A Grass and Poison type Pokemon. It’s Grass half is weak against Fire, Flying, Bug, Ice and Poison, while it’s Poison half is weak against Psychic types. It’s Grass half is strong against Water, Rock and Ground types, while it’s Poison half is strong against Bug types. Because of its Poison attribute though, Poison type moves are not very effective.”

Again he pressed a button to further the description.

“This Pokemon’s attacks are Tackle, Growl, Leech Seed and Vine Whip.” With that, the screen went blank and the computer like voice fell silent. Isaac put the Pokedex into his back pocket and turned to Bulbasaur.

“Maybe we should practise your attacks before we find a battle,” he told his Pokemon. Bulbasaur nodded its head and got into a battle position.

“All right Bulbasaur, lets see how far you can Tackle attack,” Isaac shouted.

Bulbasaur ran forward, gaining speed with ever step. It the launched itself forward about two metres before heavily hitting the ground.

“Bulba… saauurrr,” it said in a dazed stupor.

*Whoops, don’t think I’ll let him try that one again* Isaac thought. *At least not without a target anyway*

“Hey Bulbasaur, you OK?” he called out.

Bulbasaur stood up and shook the feeling of dizziness out of its head.

“Do you still want to keep going?” Isaac asked.

Bulbasaur nodded. “Bulba bulba.” It looked more determined.

“All right then, lets see your Vine Whip attack,” Isaac told him. He bent down and picked up seven rocks that were strewn across the road. “Try to knock these out of the air.” With that Isaac threw each rock into the air as high as he could. Bulbasaur’s vines extended out from under its bulb and shot into the sky, desperately trying to hit as many rocks as possible. Isaac kept a close watch. *5 outta 7 is pretty good* he mused. He walked over to Bulbasaur and scratched its head.

“Not bad,” he told his Pokemon. “Not bad at all. I think you’d do fine in a battle with a wild Pokemon.”

Bulbasaur looked up at his trainer. “Bulba saur bulba,” it told him.

“I guess you agree too huh?” Isaac said. With that they walked back to the road and continued on to Viridian City.
