Chapter 3

“Where the hell is the Pokemon Centre in this place,” Isaac asked himself. He was running flat out with Bulbasaur in his arms. The small plant Pokemon was injured and had its eyes closed.

“Bulba… Bul…” it murmured weakly.

“Hang in there Bulbasaur, we’re nearly there,” Isaac told him. He ran around another corner to finally see the Pokemon Centre. *Why would it be tucked away behind here* he wondered. The doors opened for him and he ran up to the woman behind the front desk.

“Excuse me,” he panted. “Can you help my Bulbasaur? He’s pretty badly hurt.”

The woman turned around to reveal a pink haired nurse with a nametag that said, “Joy”.

“Oh my goodness,” she exclaimed after noticing Bulbasaurs condition. “What have you been making that poor Pokemon do?”

“It wasn’t my fault…” Isaac began, but was stopped by Nurse Joy putting her hand up.

“We haven’t got time for excuses, this Pokemon needs treatment,” she told him. She picked up a microphone and held it up. “Medical team to the front desk and hurry,” she spoke.

Almost immediately, the double doors to the left of the desk swung open and three Chanseys ran out pushing a stretcher in front of them.

“Chansey, Chansey!” each of them called. Two of them went over to Isaac and indicated for him to put Bulbasaur on to the stretcher. As soon as he did, the three egg Pokemon ran back into the room behind the double doors. Isaac turned back to face a stern looking Nurse Joy.

“Now young man, would you care to explain what on Earth happened to your poor Bulbasaur,” she demanded.

*Wow, she can look menacing for a nurse* he thought nervously. “We were out training while walking here. Bulbasaur had already beaten three Ratatas and a Pidgey so he was pretty tired. All of a sudden a male Nidoran jumped us. I don’t usually let Bulbasaur into his Pokeball because he prefers being out, but I was gonna recall him when he jumped out there himself to battle it.” Isaac looked pleadingly at the nurse. “Please, you’ve gotta understand that it wasn’t my fault. He did try his best but he was too tired. I tried to call him back, but the Nidoran turned on me after it fainted Bulbasaur. I forgot the Pokeball, scooped him up and ran here as fast as I could.”

Nurse Joys face softened. “Well next time you should be more careful where you walk,” she told him. “Wild male Nidoran can be very aggressive when an intruder walks into their territory. I’m surprised you didn’t have a potion with you to use beforehand.”

The colour drained from Isaac’s face. Oak’s words suddenly drifted into his mind.

“…one potion which should be used for when you can’t reach the Pokemon Centre in time…” the professor had said.

“I forgot I had one,” he muttered sheepishly. “I was in too much of a panic to get Bulbasaur some help and run away from the Nidoran at the same time.”

“Well, nobody’s perfect,” Joy said kindly, her agitation gone completely. “You would have had to bring Bulbasaur in here anyway after all that training. Now do you have a place to stay tonight? Bulbasaur will need to rest for a while and it’s nearing nightfall anyway.”

Isaac shook his head. “Is it OK if I stay here,” he asked.

“Of course. Every Pokemon Centre has a facility for trainers who need somewhere to stay overnight. Please follow me and I’ll show you to your room.”

Isaac breathed a sigh of relief. He hadn’t even thought about where he would stay. *Better pick up some camping gear while I’m here* he thought.

Nurse Joy led him to a large corridor out the back. The walls were covered in many doors. *Probably different rooms* Isaac noted. Joy walked up to one of the doors and opened it for him. Inside was a single bedroom with connecting bathroom, a desk and table, and a TV hidden away in the corner.

“You should be comfy enough here,” Joy informed him. “Bulbasaur will be better than ever by the morning, so try to get some sleep.”

“K. Thanks Nurse Joy,” Isaac said.

“My pleasure. Good night,” Nurse Joy replied and closed the door behind her.

Isaac collapsed on to the bed, finally realising how tired he was. He and Bulbasaur had been training all day. *I still haven’t caught anymore Pokemon though* he thought. *There had better be some good ones up ahead and…then I’ll…*

Isaac’s eyes closed and pretty soon he drifted off into a blissful slumber.
