Crybaby

Disclaimer: Mariah Carey and Snoop Dogg own the song ‘Crybaby’, and some important company owns Pokémon.

Author’s Note: Third part in my alphabetical songfic series. I found an X! ^_^ I have D and E planned too.

Okay, so it 5 am
and I still can't sleep
Took some medicine,
but it's not working.
Someone's clinging to me,
and it's bittersweet.
'Cause he's head over heals,
but I ain't that deep.

Misty walked around the dark, silent house. She was the only one awake- though the mansion was large and inhabited by many servants and of course, her new boyfriend.

She smiled at the thought. Her new boyfriend. She couldn’t really say new, since she hadn’t had an old boyfriend. Unless…Ash counted.

Ash should count, she had determined before. He was a boy and a friend and she had liked him that way. And she was pretty sure he liked her that way. If she hadn’t moved back to Cerulean it would have turned out perfectly. She knew it.

If she hadn’t move back to Cerulean. If she hadn’t accepted her sister’s request and took over the gym. If she had gone on with Ash through Hoenn and stopped him from meeting that…May…girl. If she hadn’t cried all those nights over him. If she hadn’t fallen in love with someone else. If Ash hadn’t fallen back in love with her.

I finally changed my number,
got a different pager.
Then last Saturday,
your cousin called to say,
your trying to reach me.
Probably because you see that
I'm wishing with someone new.

He had called her. A month or two after he had left. She was so happy to have him call- to have him not forgotten her. She remembered the conversation vividly.

Ash smiled into the videophone. That smile that made her all gooey inside. "Hey, Mist." He said.

She smiled and whispered back, "Hi Ash."

"What’s up?"

"Not much…long time no see, huh?" She smiled again, resisting the urge to burst into tears. She had missed him a lot.

"Yah…well- I’ve got a new friend!" He broke into a bigger smile- one that did not make her fell gooey.

"A new…friend?" She prayed in her mind that he meant a new Pokémon friend. Not a new…girl friend.

"Yah- her name is May!"

Please let that be a nickname…

"Want to talk to her?"

Please…

"Sure." She hated herself. Why couldn’t she say no?

He smiled. Ah. That’s why.

"Here!"

A girl took the phone, knocking Ash out of view. "Hi! I’m May."

Misty forced a smile, then very quickly, with her foot, pulled out a wire and disconnected the phone.

Late at night
like a little child
wandering alone in my new friends home
on my tipitoes
so that he won't know
I still cry baby
over you and me

Tears came over Misty. Had she been replaced so easily? Ash had found another girl to travel with, another girl to be his friend. Another Misty.

He had tried to call her back, but her caller id and always betrayed him and she would never answer the phone. All his letters she had never read. She didn’t need Ash.

Tracey had called her once. Told her Ash was trying to contact her. What was up?

She had hung up on Tracey too. She didn’t need that loser either.

She had said she wouldn’t let herself get upset over this. Ash was just…Ash. She didn’t need him! If he wanted to move on- she would too.

She just needed to find another Ash.

And what better Ash than Gary.

Slipping Bailey’s Cream by the stereo
trying to find relief on the radio.
I'm suppressing the tears but they start to flow
'Cause the next song I hear is a song I wrote
When we first got together early that September
I can't bear to listen ,
so I might as well drift in the kitchen
Pour another glass or two,
and try to forget you.

Ah yes, Gary. When everything reminded you of Ash, what better to do than seek comfort in the most opposite person from Ash ever- his ‘rival’.

True, Gary and Ash had somewhat made up, but Misty knew they would always be rivals by heart.

She had made her move on Gary quickly. Called up the Oaks and invited him over to ‘talk’ over dinner.

It was rather embarrassing; Gary had been on the Tracey side and thought she might want to talk about Ash. He was surprised when she threw herself at him, but got over that quickly!

Misty smiled at the memory of Gary, eyes wide open when she pressed her lips to his, dressed in a slimming, low-cut dress. She wasn’t dressed for long…

She guessed she had fallen in love with Gary after a while, but she hadn’t loved him from the beginning. She knew it was wrong, but it had done good for her. She had gotten over Ash.

Or at least, she thought so.

Late at night
like a little child
wandering alone in my new friends home
on my tipitoes
so that he won't know…

She flipped the radio on, playing it quietly. Mariah Carey belted out the words to an old song and Misty leaned against the kitchen counter, where she had arrived in her dazed thoughts. Sighing, she thought about Ash and Gary.

She loved Gary.

She loved Ash. Had loved.

Or did she still?

She had read once that old loves were hard to get over. Was it true?

She loved Ash so much, and now there was Gary- who was offering her everything she wanted…from Ash.

It was so confusing. She turned the radio up louder to drown out her thoughts and let the tears come.

I still cry baby
over you and me

The radio flipped off. Startled, she raised her glance to Gary’s eyes, caring and full of love. She had forgotten she wasn’t alone in this house.

Gary sat down across the counter and pulled her hands across the table.

"Mist…"

It was Ash’s old nickname for her. The tears welled up in her eyes again and she pulled her hand back to wipe them away.

"…y."

Oh. He wasn’t done. She must stop jumping to conclusions like that…

"Misty…I thought you were over him."

She was startled, "Over? Over who?"

Gary laughed to himself, then pulled her hands closer to him, "Ash. You know that Misty. You were crying over him a few seconds ago."

She pulled her hands away and stood up, "No I wasn’t."

Gary walked around the counter and pulled her close, "Yes you were…"

She sighed against his shirt and mumbled, "No…"

Gary stroked her hair, "Don’t waste your time…don’t cry, baby, over him. Let him be…let US be…"

Baby hear me when I say,
Let that man be on his way.
Don't even waste your time,
and worry 'bout how he handles things
Baby hear me when I say
A player feeling good today
you know you’re too fly to waste your time
watch how I handle things
man yous a fool for this,
but on the real dog I'm cool wit' this
we doin' this D-O double G-z-Y
kiss them girls and make them cry.

He leaned down and kissed her, "Don’t worry about him! Forget about Ash! That was your plan, right?"

She looked up at him, her eyes filled with tears, "My plan?"

"I’m just here to make you get rid of Ash, we both know that…"

Misty hung her head, "Then why don’t you leave."

"Because I love you."

He kissed her again, "I will be your new Ash…let Ash do his thing with May…let me do my thing with you."

Her eyes met his again. She saw the love in them, the strong feelings for her, the will to rid her of Ash.

Who needed Ash? She had Gary.

Late at night
like a little child
wandering alone in my new friends home
on my tipitoes
so that he won't know
I still cry baby
over you and me
