“What is this?” Misty asked, holding the glittering blue sapphire. It was as big as her hand and was shaped into the form of a blazing inferno. It cast an eerie glow making it look like Halloween.

“Uh…” said Ash,“It’s a…gift my grandma gave me…last summer.” Ash was relieved when Misty didn’t ask him another question.

“Well, here you go.” Misty said handing the sapphire to Ash. As she did that the sapphire glowed. The light from the center of the sapphire grew brighter. The light warmed both Misty and Ash’s hands. They both rose up into the air with the sapphire. Circling one another. The speedintensified. Soon they were going so fast the whole world was a blur to them. Faster and faster they went. Until their bodies moved so fast they were nearly invisible. With the completion of one more circle they vanished.

When Brock came to call Ash and Misty to dinner they weren’t there. Or anywhere. He searched high and low for them. Where could they be? It’s my responsibility as the eldest to keep an eye on them. I failed. I failed them both. thought Brock. There was a rustle in the bush beside Brock. He looked at the bush. Every second he looked at it his curiosity increased. He cautiously moved toward the bush. Each breath he took was shaky. Crouching low, he reached out with his hand towards the bush. He stopped his hand from advancing when it was about to touch one of its leaves. He quickly grasped the bush pulling it hard enough so that it was pulled out from the ground. Where the bush once stood was Pikachu going berserk over a nut he couldn’t open.

“Pikachu, have any idea where Ash and Misty went?” Brock asked Pikachu. Pikachu stopped gnawing on his nut to look up at Brock and he said, “Pika Pikachu” I have no idea.

Thousands of years back…

As Ash he woke up, the murmurs from the group of people that crowded around his bed filled his head. In his head the murmur became louder, echoing off the walls in his brain. Soon the only thing he heard was a constant saying of a word “hero”. Ash started to daydream, it was something he didn’t usually think about, he noticed that every person around him was garbed in robes of the finest quality. The colors ranged from crimson red, to cobalt blue.

“What, what’s going on here?” Ash asked, talking to no one in particular. One man in a grey robe threw his hands into the air and boomed, “At last, he has awoken. He is the one who can stop His evil reign of terror!” After he said that the cheers of the crowd erupted from their mouths. “He is the one who came to crush Him and take the throne! He will be a powerful king, a wise king, a kind king, and he will also be a king loved by all!” More cheers erupted as the man continued to speak.

The man’s speech ended and everybody went back to their daily chores. “Where’s Misty?” Ash asked the man, jumping off the bed.

“Who is this Misty?” the man asked.

“She has red hair, and has blue eyes…” explained Ash.

“Oh, that girl, the girl that was with you when you got here last night.”

Ash, unable to recall any events related to that just said, “Uh… yeah.”

“I put here to work in the fields.”

“Take me to her.”

“Fine, as you wish, follow me.”

The man led Ash out of the room, but he made Ash change into a brown tunic and pants before walking out of the building. As Ash looked at his surroundings he was fully aware that each brick was perfect. Ash now knew that this was definitely not the 21st century. For if it was, the bricks would not be as précised as they were. The bricks would, instead, be very inaccurate.

Walking around a corner Ash tripped on a spear. He ignored it and walked on. Walking straight he later saw a field. He also saw that there were no Pokemon helping the farmers out. Out of curiosity Ash asked the man, “Where are the Pokemon? On a break?”

“Pokemon? Pokemon?” exclaimed the man, “Are you mad? Pokemon are our enemies. They’re the reason you came. You came to stop them, are you’re saying ‘where are the Pokemon’? I’ll tell you where they are,” the man pointed his finger to a hill, “There they are. And every month they take one of our citizens.”

“Why?” Ash asked

“That’s the problem,” the man said, “, we don’t know why they’re taking our people. Did you notice that spear?”

“Yeah.”

“Do you know what spear does?”

“Of course I do,” Ash answered. “it kills”

“And what are we going to kill with that spear?”

“Pokemon?” Ash replied.

Well, we’re preparing for war. The people aren’t the best of warriors, but I’m sure they can smash those piles of rubbish. After you’re done talking to the red-head go back to your bed. You need rest. Remember the way?”

“What do you take me for?”

“If you have trouble finding the way back go to the bar. I’ll be there.” With that said he turned around and started to walk back towards the village. Before he got too far Ash asked, “What’s your name?”

“Gerald.”

“I’ll remember that.”

“I’m sure you will, Ash.”

“How did you know my name?”

“I’ll tell you at another time. Not now.”

Ash ran all around the field looking for Misty. Every now and then he would come across a woman with red hair only to find out that that person wasn’t Misty.

When he was about to give up he heard his name being called out several times, Ash, Ash, Ash! The voice said, he turned around and saw Misty. She wore tattered clothes, her hair had clumps of dirt in it, and her hair jutted out from her head at weird angles, making it look like a giant red spider was on her head.

“Ash!” Misty said as she ran towards Ash.

“Misty!” Ash said opening his arms. She reached Ash and threw her arms around him.

“Misty, there’s some bad news.” Misty broke from the hug to listen to Ash’s news. “Misty, there’s another war going on.”

Misty threw her arms in the air, exclaiming, “There’s a Team Rocket, here? Here in this part of history?”

“No, Misty we have to kill…” Ash urged himself to spill the beans and let the words come out, but they didn’t. He tried, but one small part of him didn’t want to say it. Killing Pokemon? he thought We have to kill Pokemon? Tears crawled out of their hiding places and started to gather at the bottom of his eye. He decided that the only way to tell her what they had to kill was by describing. “Misty we have to kill things that… we humans are able to train… and… the things… we play with them, and, and, they’re…” Misty waited silently for a long time. Then Ash finally yelled out, “POKEMON!” As Ash shouted out the word “Pokemon” he let the tears flow freely. His head was directed towards the heavens. “What kind of cruel god would make us kill our friends?!”

Misty put her hand to her mouth. Misty put her arm around Ash and said, “Ash, it’s okay. We’ll find a way to stop this. We always find a way to solve this kind of problem. We always do.”

Those words comforted him enough to stop crying. His choking sobs ended, and the tears dried on his face. After awhile Misty removed her arm from Ash and said, “Ash you better get back to your bed.”

“Huh? Oh, oh yeah.”

It was now night. The stars twinkled brilliantly in the black night sky. I never seen the stars shine this brilliantly in my own time he thought All the pollution, and all the other stuff about the future. He headed towards the bar, which no one could ever miss. Inch by inch he drew closer to the bar. The boisterous cheers from the bar hurt Ash’s ears and he had to put his hands over his ears. Because he had his hands on his ears Ash kicked the doors open. Everybody stopped talking and looked at Ash. Ash took his hands away from his ears. Gerald emerged from a crowd of people and patted Ash on the back; he knocked the air out of his lungs.

“I never thought you were that strong” Ash said.

“No one ever thinks I’m strong until I show them. Good thing you didn’t end like Lenny.” He pointed at an old man without his left leg, and in its place was a wooden peg.

“Yeah,” Ash said, “Good thing…”

“Ash, I want you to meet Rhun,” Rhun (Run) was a man with a broad chest. His silver hair tied up in a ponytail at the back. He had a square jaw, his emerald eyes, old and knowing. Then Gerald said, “, this is John,” John looked exactly like Rhun. “, Oh yeah, Ash Rhun and John are twins.” Gerald continued introducing everyone. Ricky was a skinny man, though he had big muscles on his arms, making him look a bit weird. Tristan, who was a muscular man.

“Now you guys are all introduced let’s celebrate!” Gerald yelled, punching the air with his hand curled up into a fist.

“What for?” Ash asked

“Your arrival. You are supposed to defeat His evil reign of terror. Just forget. We should just celebrate.” Gerald answered.

“One more question” Ash said

“Ok. One and only one.”

“Ok Gerald, ok. Do you know where Misty sleeps?”

“Oh, that’ll be the building near the edge of the village. It’s light brown.”

“Thanks” Ash said goodbye and set off.

Ash approached the door of the building Gerald described. When Ash was just about to open the door a horn was blown. Soon more horns joined in. The medley of the horns filled everyone’s ears. Ash looked behind him and saw that everyone was rushing out of their houses. And all the people rushing out of the houses were men. Every man picked a weapon. Each man carried a sword, spear, axe, or a bow and a quiver of arrows. The archers were at the rear, the men with axes, swords, and pole arms stood in the middle, while the spearmen stood at the front. Ash saw Gerald run up to him carrying a sword and a shield. Ash caught Gerald by the shoulder and asked him, “What’s this all about? The Pokemon are attacking?”

“No it’s worse, Umhard, the village south from us is attacking.” Gerald explained.

“How do you know?” Ash asked

“Let’s just say that there was some sort of message.” And with that said Gerald quickly scurried into place among the infantry.

Ash ran as fast as he could a sword and a shield and joined the rest of the soldiers. The soldiers assembled and they stood, speechless, every soldier had a thought. Whether it was traitorous or not they didn’t say a word. Not one. Not even a sound.

After a few minutes of waiting the sound of footsteps could be heard. The sound amplified every time a soldier came over the hill. Ash’s muscles tensed. He gritted his teeth together. This was going to be the first time he was going to fight for over a few minutes. He would usually wipe out a few enemies and then run away. This was different there were thousands of soldiers, enemy soldiers. Killing off every one of them would take hours, maybe even days!

The warriors of the opposing army yelled and charged forward. The spearmen lowered their spears and the Umhardian warriors were pierced by the razor-sharp spears. Some of the spears went right through the person. After 30 seconds the spearmen made space for the infantry to charge in and obliterate the opposing army. Ash heard the leader of the archers cry out “Fire!” and the archers did exactly as they were told. They fired at the back of the enemy army, so they wouldn’t accidentally kill their own soldiers. They did this about ten times before the rear of the enemy army was wiped out. Ash charged in and stabbed a soldier right between the eyes. He moved on and started slashing more and more soldiers. Ash chopped a man’s head off, he looked behind him and there was a big man, with a big hammer. The man swung it at Ash, he crouched and ran towards the man, his sword swinging through the air. The man brought his hammer down with both hands, on Ash. Ash moved forward then a flash of brilliant light blinded him. He squinted his eyes and saw a figure on a flying creature.
