Spirit of the Moonlight Chapter 1:Growlithe’s First Battles! (A/N The Spirit of the Moonlight part is in Chapter two. This is just how it began) As Luno woke up in his small home in Johto, he knew that it was time for him to get his Pokemon. He rushed downstairs and hurried to the lab. When he got there he spoke to the professor. “Can I have a Cyndaquil?” he asked eagerly. “Sorry. We have no starter Pokemon left. I gave them away last week,” the professor told him. “So I get a different Pokemon that no one else gets?” “No, sorry, I’m completely out of Pokemon. Here’s 1,000 .” When Luno returned to his brown house, he hopped onto his bed and cried his eyes out. He kept muttering things like, This isn’t fair, I’ll never get a Pokemon. Luno’s parents looked into his room. It was almost his birthday and yet he was miserable. In a week that seemed to last a year, it was Luno’s birthday. He had one friend, who was on a journey, so he was spending it with his parents. They gave him a small box. Luno thought it would be something stupid, but it was a Pokeball! He tossed it, but nothing was in it. “You bought me a Pokeball with no Pokemon?” Luno asked. “Why would we do that?” his father told him and whistled. “Come here, boy! Come Ember!” A small Growlithe walked through the door. Immediately, Luno ran up to the puppy and hugged him. A real Pokemon. Now Luno could join his pal Aor. “THANK YOU!! CAN I GO TRAIN HIM FOR THE POKEMON LEAGUE?” Luno asked very excitedly. “Yes,” his mom said. The very next day, Luno was off to train Ember. The small Growlithe was full of energy and loved to run around. “So, Ember. You want to battle a Pokemon?” Ember barked gleefully. The duo rushed up to a wild Pidgey. The Pidgey just grinned as if saying let’s fight. Pidgey kicked up sand that got in Ember’s eyes. The puppy leaped and on Luno’s command rammed into his opponent with great force. Suddenly, Ember shouted in pain. The tackle attack hit directly into Pidgey’s claw, hurting the Growlithe. “Oh no. Ember hit the talons. Don’t give up! Use ember, Ember!” Ember didn’t like the pun but shot a spark of glowing fire anyway. It barely burned the Pidgey. Luno kept encouraging his new partner and told him to fight like Pidgey. The wild Pidgey flew swiftly at Ember. Remembering his trainer’s advice, Ember jumped up and bit Pidgey when it went for the tackle. The puppy had won, and the Pidgey laid on the ground unconscious. Luno left and the Pidgey got up and flew away. “We did it!” Luno cried. “We beat a wild Pokemon! Pretty good team, you and me.” Ember’s cut was small, so he yipped and jumped on Luno. Money fell out of Luno’s pocket. “Oh yeah! The prof gave me some money! Maybe I’ll get some Pokeballs at the Bargain Ball!” As the happy friends walked to the store, they noticed that the sun was setting. Luno petted his Pokemon and told him that their first day of training was over. They looked at the peaceful colors for a little bit and walked to the small shop. Bargain Ball was a very small store that sold Pokeballs at half the price of Pokemart. They made very little money and the store was a very old building that used to be a Laundromat. Luno bought five Pokeballs and left to go to the Pokemon Center. At the center, Ember was napping and Luno was too. Ember dreamed of being a big strong Arcanine that was Luno’s best Pokemon. Luno dreamed that he was with Ember as an Arcanine, saying that teamwork was why they were so strong. This was the start of a new friendship. Luno stretched and hopped out of bed. There was a large group of trainers surrounding him. One approached him. “Hey, we’re the Cooltrainer clique of Monsoon Town,” one told him. “I’m Pacos.” “I’m a rookie,” Luno said nervously. “If you want a real battle, we’ll have a one Pokemon per person match,” Pacos suggested. “Deal.” Outside, the multi-colored leaves fell to the ground. There was a circle drawn on the ground. Luno threw his Pokeball into the air, releasing Ember. Pacos did the same, but he had a much different Pokemon. “Scyther!” Pacos called. “Cut!” Ember narrowly avoided the scythe moving at blazing speed. He shot another glowing flame at Scyther. The fire bounced off the scythe onto the floor. This is going to be one memorable battle. “Come on! You can beat it, Ember! Tackle it!” Scyther moved quickly and sent the puppy Pokemon hurtling into a pile of leaves. The Growlithe sprung up and scratched Scyther. The mantis Pokemon collapsed onto the ground. “Is it over? Did we win?” Luno wondered. Suddenly, Scyther burst off the ground and flipped in midair. Ember was horrified. He thought it ended. It did end soon. “Good job! SLASH!!” A single scythe shot through the air and sent Ember to the ground unconscious. “No fair, you cheated!” “Some call it that. We call it tactics.” Luno stormed away holding his Pokemon. He put Ember on a bed and the nurse took him to be healed. That cursed Scyther was why Ember’s here, Luno thought. In less than a minute, Ember was as good as new. He jumped into Luno’s arms. Luno thought that maybe there was no harm done. After all, it was just a game.
